Yelp
Came back to Give Angry Petes another try for breakfast yesterday after a very cold trip to Santee Lakes! Thankfully the building blocks the frigid wind the day experienced. We each tried something different than the failed breakfast burrito experience: Egg scramble with bacon and a croissant sandwich with ham. Definitely an improved experience! I took note of our ordering time and our food was ready in about 10 mins, which is a vast improvement from the first trip. We both enjoyed our meals and I picked the sandwich because I remembered that the one thing that really ruined my first meal was the complete lack of seasoning on their potatoes. This was still the case with the potatoes included in the scramble. Yes, you can always add salt and better to have to add salt than for something being over seasoned ---but seriously guys! Add a bit of seasoning to your breakfast potatoes. With that one modification the breakfast items would be so much better! Portions are good and filling. The croissant was fresh, buttery and flakey as you'd hope. It seems the breakfast sandwich is served on a standard hamburger bun which isnt really the best option (Im a fan of ciabatta or bagel for my egg sammies), so I would definitely opt for the croissant! The scramble had nice cripsy bacon of a generous portion and comes with salsa (typically an additional request I have to make!). Just really needed those potatoes to be seasoned. I've looked at the pics of their pizzas and that personal sized version looks really tasty so perhaps a lunch meal is in order next time! Hopefully the improved turnaround time continues -it does seem impacted by how busy they are as it seems one Cook / 1 order at a time and depending on where you are in the queue.

Yelp
It's in Santee Lakes Park, so be prepared to pay for your carload to enter. The location has a great view of the second lake, with a few fun options for lunch/dinner. A few different styles of pizza--we got the deep dish cheese, one of the habañero chicken, and the lions tigers and wolverines. Local beer choices are limited but much more than I expected from a little place like this one. They've also got a convenient speaker system so you don't have to wait around for your food. Just be sure to getting something to clean the table with--they can be messy at times.

Yelp
Wow!!! What an experience! Santee Lakes is beautiful, and this restaurant adds a fun little element. I went here on a Monday with a friend. We walked Santee Lakes and by the time we got to Lake 5, we were ready for a snack. I had the smash burger and ordered the large pretzel to take home to share with my husband. My friend got a slice of pizza. Our food came out quickly and was so delicious! We ate our food sitting right on the water, and it was lovely! I will definitely go back since the service as great, the food was amazing, and you cannot beat the location!

Yelp
This is located inside Santee lakes. I came here around 7am on a Sunday to check out the fishing. There were about 2 people ahead of me waiting for their food already. The prices seemed reasonable. I ordered a basic breakfast burrito. The burrito itself was average but just enough to feed 2 people and hold us over until lunch. I'm kind of bummed that they ran out of salsa and didn't have any hot sauce packets. There was only one guy working here at the time, he was doing everything, cooking, taking orders, making coffee. I'm wondering if they have other employees too because I felt bad for him, but at the same time I waited almost 30 minutes for my 1 burrito. He was very kind though. Just be prepared to wait if you come here. It seems like they specialize in pizza but had a few other items too which I would be willing to try next time. The only thing I wish they had were sandwiches, as I am a sandwich lover. It would be nice if they would incorporate them on the menu as they are faster to make than pizza and also very filling!

Yelp
My sons (12 and 14 years old) shared 2 Detroit pizzas. Pepperoni and buffalo chicken...... they were delicious. Thick crust and crispy around the edges. I liked the pepperoni the best. The sauce was really good. The service was just fine as they take your order at a window. It is a nice atmosphere with a view of the lake on the patio. Overall a good experience and I'm giving 5 stars mainly for the food as I thought it was great!

Yelp
Stopped here for a refreshment after using the paddleboat. Our group was seated along a nice large table and still plenty of seating along the water with great views. The food & beverages were endless of choices and told the pizza was pretty tasty also. The staff was very helpful and recommending choices according to our likes. She even offered for tasting to see which specialty beer we would like. Now thats service! Check out the hours for a great place to get your cravings sufficed Can't wait for our next visit to try something else! Thanks for great service

Yelp
I saw this in passing on a previous trip to Santee Lakes. I stopped in for a quick meal and drink. The Newtopian Cider is delicious and refreshing. I had a Detroit Style Coney Dog which was smaller than I anticipated but was still a dang tasty little dog. Can't beat the view of the lake while enjoying food and beverage. I will have to try the pizza next trip.

Brittany A.

Yelp
Love this location! Lots of seating and beautiful view of the lake. Huge menu! Bathrooms! They even will deliver pizza to your campsite if you are camping! I only got an orange Faygo soda, but I'd love to return here and grab some pizza.

Lindsay C.

Yelp
Angry & Pizza are certainly all descriptors of this place. While the pizza is absolutely amazing.... Their whole dining situation is great in theory but terrible in execution and it's not their fault. The lakes are great. If you're constantly moving and able to avoid the plague nightmare that are the tiny midge flies. Their dock seating made for a great viewing experience but we were getting hammered by bugs. They were all over our food and we did our best to ignore it. The food was decent. Mac and cheese was okay. The pizza was great. The burger was meh and the fries were meh. We'll definitely be back. But we're going to rethink where we sit to eat for sure.

Becky L.

Yelp
This is the best option for a day visit or camping trip to the Santee Lakes; the only place you can get hot food on site (they will deliver it for free to your campground) We ordered a variety of dishes: - Mac n Cheese: it was creamy, buy it felt like a Velveeta dish and not something worth the price. It needed something salty like bacon, but we didn't want to spend the extra money on that. - Salad: it was pretty sub par for the price. Almost as if they created it as an after thought based on ingredients they already had instead of taking the time to craft its own dish - Birria Pizza slice: probably the best dish we got. Lots of meat, thick focchia break to keep it from getting soggy when dipped in the juice - Mortadella, Pistachio, Burrata, Balsalmic Pizza (special): it was Okay, like 3.5 out of 5 stars. The crust of the Pizza is good and the bread isn't too dry for how thick it is, but I wish it has a sauce or something. - Pretzel: Large and soft, the mustard dip was good and the other cheese-ish thing was just OK.. it coagulated fairly quickly and became less appetizing as that happened. Overall, it was an OK experience, but it's convenient, quick, and served fresh. Plus it's peaceful to eat on the deck overlooking the lake.

Nathali S.

Yelp
We were camping at the Santee lakes campground and saw this place. The amount of options is amazing! We stopped by for a quick snack. Ordered the giant pretzel, a donut, ice cream and a slushee (they have alcoholic slushees). The service was amazing! I didn't catch the lady's name (she had blond hair and a lot of awesome tattoos) but she was super nice. She suggested some awesome things and was nice and courteous to my never ending with questions 7 year old. She brought out our pretzel and asked if we needed anything else. She will definitely be one of the main reason we come back. The food was good, the pretzel came with cheese and honey mustard. The slushee was great, my kids loved the donut and ice cream. We will definitely come back to try their pizza. They have an awesome deck for seating with plenty of tables that over see the lake. They have multiple fans (and some fans with misters). It's shady but there's also spots for sun if you want to catch some rays. Overall a great experience!

Yelp
My 9-year old has been telling me about this place for months. I finally got a chance to go with him over our Xmas vacation, and it was great! The lady who helped us was really nice, and the patio is a very relaxing place to hang out. We got two Detroit style (square) pizzas, which turned out to be way too much food for us. But, we took the pizza home for left-overs, and I actually thought it was better the second time around! I'll definitely be taking him back sooner than later.

Adriana N.

Yelp
Pizza was a 10/10. Some of the best pizza I've had in a while. We ordered the habanero bbq chicken pizza , it definitely has a kick but met all our expectations! The guy upfront was helpful on picking out a beer and what pizza to try. Main complaint is the food takes a long time, we ordered at four and didn't get one pizza until 4:45pm with only one person ahead of us. We waited by the pick up window and I noticed the cooks weren't wearing any gloves and were touching all the ingredients that went on the pizza. Otherwise beautiful area and absolutely delicious!

Luana S.

Yelp
My Mom, Sister and I are on a mission to try different places for breakfast and coffee drinks. My Niece joined us and we came here today. I'm so glad we did. The lady who took our order was very nice and helpful. We didn't have to wait long for our food and drinks. I got a Breakfast Sandwich with Ham. They put it on a hamburger bun. It was so good! Mom and Sis both got the Breakfast Burrito, they were very big and they both liked them. Niece got a slice of Pizza that looked delicious. Sis and I both got Iced Mochas which were as tasty as they looked. The seating area is spacious and the view is beautiful. It's a very relaxing place to spend the morning.

Yelp
Stayed at the lake again, didn't bring food to cook for our second night, thought we would go here..... I got the same thing I did last time the GIANT pretzel $11...but this time it wasn't as good. The mustard sauce on the side (plastic prefilled KEN's brand) was lumpy like it's been sitting there...and the nacho cheese was cold. I didn't want to go back b/c they had already miss understood our order the first time. We asked if we could take the tomatoes off the burger and they said "no substitutions" but you could get it plain. Who would pay that amount of $ for a PLAIN small thing burger??? I guess they assumed b/c we couldn't substitute we didn't want it....but it was our fault too we should have gotten a receipt, but w/ the total for wings and a pretzel close to $30 we didn't think it didn't include the burger.... Got the burger and yes, it was thin, got a side of fries for $4...there was about 5 wedges.... Think that's our last time eating there...a little over priced for convenience when you're already paying top dollar to stay at the lake in a cabin since they were featured on the news during the Pandemic...(that's another entire review)................

Rachel K.

Yelp
It was a bit over cooked and it took awhile to get out order. Everyone was lovely, they were just super busy and pushing out what they could.

Sandy C.

Yelp
This is 100% in the running for best pizza in San Diego. A coworker told me about this place after I told her how much I loved the Detroit style pizza at TNT. I visited here with my Mom yesterday and the pizza was so good I got some to take home to my wife and some mac for work lunch the next day. Just go. The pickle bacon ranch was the favorite but we got and loved all the ones we tried. (Buffalo chicken, pepperoni, and sausage/peppers). They also have a slushee that tastes like a bomb pop and some other flavors with booze for the adults. Also, the cashier is super friendly and there's a great view of Santee lakes!

Gaaron V.

Yelp
Amazing food from a family operated business! Get a slice or a whole pizza (4 slices) and enjoy Santee Lakes. Good local craft beer selection as well in addition to a wide variety of pops. Haven't had their breakfast but will be back to give it a try! Cashier was super friendly as well. And you can't beat the view overlooking the lakes from the deck

Cecilie A.

Yelp
Service was fine. I was very disappointed that I paid $11 for this tiny salad. I put my hand next to it for reference. The taste was fine, just an average salad, nothing special. I won't be coming back based on principle alone.

Vanessa P.

Yelp
Brought me back home! I'm from Detroit and haven't had true Detroit pizza in nearly 20 years since being back home. Wow Angry Pete's Pizza is the real deal! It's incredibly light, crisp bottom and the authentic cheese edged crust. I bought one slice, then needed another. I also got a half baked while pizza to bring home for later for my husband. They had a bunch of other MI faves like Mackinac Island fudge, Faygo pop, Bells Beer and more! Can't wait to stop back when I'm back in San Diego (unless you want to open one up in LA?!)

Sylvia G.

Yelp
My boyfriend is from Michigan so we decided to try Angry Pete's in hopes of getting him some food from home. He was extremely glad that we did! We ordered the Lions, Tigers and Wolverine's Pizza and it was amazing. He was so happy when he saw that they sell Faygo Rock and Rye because that was always his favorite as a kid. Angry Pete's also sells Mackinac Island Fudge and it is amazing! We have returned a few times since the first visit and plan on going again. The service is always great, the cashiers are always so friendly. And the park is definitely a beautiful place to enjoy your meal.

Lisa G.

Yelp
This place sucks the worst! First of all, the pizza is ugly delicious with soft on the inside, crispy on the edges crust. We had to wait because the food was made to order... the ridiculousness! The flavor combinations taste like someone was super thoughtful and actually had some experience with cheffing. And the most audacious part is the owner HIMSELF (caught him in the pic!!!) actually came out and offered us beers. I mean the audacity of this guy's service is Utterly Ridiculous. To top off our terrible experience I saw that right on the front counter they actually ANGRILY DONATE TO CHARITY. Like no wonder their prices are so high! Our bill was $23 for two slices and 2 beers... like I can get a better deal at 7-11!! Will be back.

Adria D.

Yelp
I love angry Pete's Pizza! I'm so glad they got a storefront I used to follow them around San Diego to different pop-up locations and I was never disappointed! They are very reasonably priced for such good quality food for people bitching about prices I think that's just the norm of these days because of inflation but I think they're pretty cheap compared to places in Little Italy and downtown. If you can't afford to go out and eat Diane then stop going out to eat...and then bitching about it!

Tara T.

Yelp
Love the location! Life has been hard lately and comfort food sounded about right. Parked like they said across the street for free and walked through gates. Asked a bunch of menu questions (thank you) and got a real carmel coffee to walk around the water. Came back and decided to experience their cherry bbq pizza and they were out of some of the ingredients though got to try the sauce and now wonder how yummy it would have been. Mac and Cheese was delicious so I was still happy and looking forward to being back again. Enjoy!

Mina N.

Yelp
Still haven't tried their food, but been dying to. However, will go to their other locations. Just know if you come to the Santee one, you pay the lake's fee ($7) to enter and no dogs are allowed since the lake is a preserve. No one mentioned anything so thought I will! We haven't been to Santee lakes in ages and didn't know the rules/regulations so it ruined the visit for us since we had a dog and couldn't sit on their patio/deck. We chose this location due to the view... Whelp, that was a let down. Definitely a convenient spot to eat if you're at the lake for the day, and/or camping. Otherwise, suggest visiting their other locations.

Samantha N.

Yelp
Really fun spot for a restaurant style meal on the lake. Food came out after 15 minutes, the pretzel was really good and the cheese sauce was great as well. The pizza was good, traditional deep dish and there's so many options for toppings. Can't wait to bring more friends and family here to eat and enjoy the lake.

X Z.

Yelp
This place was so good. 10/10 food The lady behind the counter was really kind & friendly, and made sure our table was wiped down before we ate.

Lindsey L.

Yelp
We had Angry Pete's yesterday around 11. The cashier with the big curly hair was extremely rude and unprofessional. I left after eating our $50 dollars worth of food and we all got food poisoning. I have never been so sick in my entire life. We were all throwing up for hours on end. I'm so sad because we come to Santee Lakes all the time and now we will be afraid to go back to eat here.

Shannon H.

Yelp
Ok first of all, location is tough - you really have to know where you're going to get there - specifically, don't go in the main entrance to Santee Lakes, because they make you pay the entrance fee even if you're just picking up food. You have to enter on Lake Canyon, and it's a walk - in entrance. Not convenient, but not the end of the world. Second - the wings were ok, but not amazing. Maybe they could use some tin foil wrapping - ours weren't hot, which made them not crispy. What I'm really here to talk about, and why, despite the location and the wings - the pizza. It's so good. I've had all of the San Diego options for Detroit style pizza, and this is by far the best. The crust is thick, but not dry. They're really generous with toppings. The crispy edges...so deliciously crispy. But the sauce...the sauce is the best part. I wish I'd ordered a pint of sauce on the side to dip, to use on pasta, to drink...it was so good. Even with the challenge of finding the place, the pizza made this a five star experience. Can't wait to have it again. Side note - part of me is a little disappointed that I'm not able to leave a bad review, just so I can get a classic Sassy Pete response, but it was too good to mess around!! Thanks Pete! EDIT: thanks for the reply Sassy Pete

Kathy R.

Yelp
Fun spot in Santee Lakes for a quick bite. The beer is good and being from Michigan the Detroit influence is interesting in the Santee area. Hopefully it will last longer than Tin Fish did.

Nicholas M.

Yelp
Order a pizza for it to get cancelled an hour and a half later. Angry Pete living up to the name. GrubHub support was also worthless.

Briana C.

Yelp
We were staying in the campground over Labor Day weekend and ordered Angry Pete's for lunch. (There is very spotty reception in the campsite so I had to drive over and order.) It took awhile for the food to come out (about 30 mins) and when it did they hadn't packaged it to go. Luckily the chef was very nice and packaged it up quickly for me to take back to the campsite. The menu selection was great! We ordered 2 thin crust pizzas for 4 ppl (Hawaiian and Pepperoni) which were good and the perfect size for sharing. We ordered 2 lbs of buffalo wings and they were SO GOOD! Lots of meat on the bones and a nice spicy flavor without being overpowering. Served with ranch. The Italian salad was also delicious. The cheesy bread was just ok- probably wouldn't order again. Not much flavor. The girls working the cashier were super sweet and friendly. Overall a good dining experience (and even better that I didn't have to cook!) The patio area looks nice and had fans and misters for lakeside seating. We'd definitely order from here again when visiting Santee Lakes!

C G.

Yelp
I picked up a Detroit style pizza today and it was very disappointing. The crust is great. Nice and crunchy. There is chunks and chunks of sauce. Beyond gross. Not enough pepperoni and I'm still looking for the cheese... I'm $23 out and 3 of the 4 slices are going in the bin..

Debbie P.

Yelp
The food and the service were excellent, highly recommend this place. It's nice to sit in the patio near the water.

Michelle F.

Yelp
Awesome spot, great food and view. Park along fanita for free parking and take the pedestrian entrance to the lakes and enjoy the nice walk!

Darryl J.

Yelp
We stopped by Santee Lakes RV park to check it out. Well we were surprised how nice the park is. You can fish and just chill out. Now we stopped in at Angrier Pete's, which is part of the Resort. The food is really quite good. The staff is even better. Had a nice young lady named Steph who was really marvelous . FYI the chicken wings tasted really good along with the beer.

Lory S.

Yelp
The smash burger is honestly one of the best I've ever had. Make sure to get the fries too. Highly recommend.

Katelyn G.

Yelp
They gave me the wrong order and refused to fix the issue; I was not refunded for the difference. I had to buy a whole new pizza due to not being able to eat their grease soaked deep dish. I ordered the flat pizza, they gave a deep dish soaked in literal puddles of grease. Deep Dish Pizza is definitely not what I ordered. Given this was my first time, with such a poor experience, I will not return to this establishment.

JoAnne W.

Yelp
Had the zz pepperoni pizza, shared with the hubby it was delicious. Loved the patio live music hope it continues. Will definitely come back!

Nina Y.

Yelp
Pizza was great, even if they got my order wrong which is probably my fault for being a little difficult. Overall, great experience, nice staff, tasty food.

Jenny S.

Yelp
This is not a sit down restaurant but more of a concession stand with cafeteria food. We came on a not too busy afternoon and ordered the pretzel, chicken sandwich, burger and potato wedges. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. The pretzel is fine. The nacho cheese it came with was coagulated so badly after 5 minutes, that it was impossible to dip the pretzel in. The chicken sandwich was pretty much two store bought tenders on a bun with one leaf of lettuce - for roughly $8. The burger was alright although not homemade. The potato wedges are like logs and wayyyy undercooked, making them inedible. The ladies selling the food were nice. However, the customers in front of us asked for the burger without cheese and the response was (literally): 'we cannot do that. The kitchen will yell at us. Like, we actually get yelled at'. What does that say about this business' leadership? All in all we enjoyed the patio (which is also the only seating option) but the rest not too much. It's a shame, this could be a gem. 3 stars is the best I can do here.

Dean C.

Yelp
We went here today for lunch, 11:45 or so. They guy at the counter looked like he just woke up. I asked if they had any lunch specials, he said we have a slice & a faygo. I had to ask how much. I ordered that, the pizza slice was very small, I would have ordered the $10 smash burger if offered. My girlfriend had the $14 pretzel & a soda, she could have had the $10 smash burger with a soda included if he had offered it. Her dad had the Italian salad & a soda. After we ordered we walked around the corner & saw a folded up sign that had more lunch specials on it. I said to the sleepy guy, "Hey, your lunch specials are right here". He said oh yeah & didn't care. He then put the sign out. We have been here before & it was disappointing. Decided to give it another try. We won't be back. They called our name for the order, & nobody was at the pick up window. We had to yell in the other window hey can we get our food? They seemed high on something. Avoid at all cost!!!!

Katie O.

Yelp
Delicious and hot every time we order. Love this place! A little more pricey than dominos and chain restaurants but def worth it.

Truth B.

Yelp
This place has been here for almost 2 months now and it is DELISH!!! Kids got the plain hotdog with fruit, husband got the Spartan sausage, onion and pepper and I got a slice of the Angry Hawaiian Hot honey badger. Sssssooooooo good. I wish they had a better salad option but honestly, I'm glad I got the pizza. It was so good. They have a good looking pasta salad I saw someone else get. We are camping at Santee Lakes so this was perfect. Will be back. It's on a pretty deck so the feel of eating here is nice and relaxing.

Josh R.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. Place looks clean. Pizza is really good. Crispy, fresh. People need to realize this is Detroit style pizza. Great ambience to enjoy your meal and good beer. Great new addition to Santee lakes! Cheers

Heather H.

Yelp
Love this new addition to Santee lakes! The food is always super fresh and yummy!! Our favs are the giant pretzel, craft beers and of course the pizza!

Elizabeth T.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time after some time at the lakes. Pizza was great! We split a cheeseburger pizza and a bbq chicken pizza, which was enough to feed four adults for lunch. I wish the kids meals came with some chips or a drink or something in addition to fruit. Loved the pop selection and other Detroit snacks for purchase.

Steve R.

Yelp
Deep dish Pizza and cold Beer always delicious, outside patio always relaxing and clean.

Bradi Z.

Yelp
Delicious! I loved, loved, loved their Brick Sticks (mozzarella sticks). They will be my new comfort food of choice. The pizza was also amazing, and served hot and fresh. I will be back.

Donald S.

Yelp
Good food . Fast service even with my ordering error. Detroit pizza was better than most I've had in Michigan
