Ok first of all, location is tough - you really have to know where you're going to get there - specifically, don't go in the main entrance to Santee Lakes, because they make you pay the entrance fee even if you're just picking up food. You have to enter on Lake Canyon, and it's a walk - in entrance. Not convenient, but not the end of the world.
Second - the wings were ok, but not amazing. Maybe they could use some tin foil wrapping - ours weren't hot, which made them not crispy.
What I'm really here to talk about, and why, despite the location and the wings - the pizza.
It's so good.
I've had all of the San Diego options for Detroit style pizza, and this is by far the best. The crust is thick, but not dry. They're really generous with toppings. The crispy edges...so deliciously crispy. But the sauce...the sauce is the best part. I wish I'd ordered a pint of sauce on the side to dip, to use on pasta, to drink...it was so good.
Even with the challenge of finding the place, the pizza made this a five star experience. Can't wait to have it again.
Side note - part of me is a little disappointed that I'm not able to leave a bad review, just so I can get a classic Sassy Pete response, but it was too good to mess around!! Thanks Pete!
EDIT: thanks for the reply Sassy Pete
