This Beautiful little girl is Gina! My best friend had the most Horrific day of her entire life. Charleen does not have any children and so Gina is her little child of 13 years, has always been healthy happy and has the best mommy any little pup could ask for. My dear friend is in so much pain and agony. Unfortunately this day she will never forget and I’m so sad for her. She brought Gina to this veterinarian place because Gina had two seizures she’s 13 years old she’s blind and not walking well she had to put her down but instead of having the very last moment with Gina, holding her in her arms and kissing her goodbye and being in a safe, quiet, loving environment. Instead, she was subjected to being asked to wait outside and to listen to the horrific sounds of Gina screaming in pain. She will never forget this and will blame herself forever for taking her there!! Please do not ever bring your dog to this place. They have no Love. The dog will just be a dog another number more money in their pocket it seems that that’s all they care about. To Charleen Gina with her whole life. Rest in peace baby girl we love you, honey. ♥️♥️♥️

I have been bringing my chihuahuas to Dr. Schacnner for over 20 years, and he is truly one of the best veterinarians I’ve ever known. He has been there through the beginning and the end of many of my dogs’ lives, always providing exceptional care and compassion. When my dog, Tila, my first dog to pass away at 17 years old. I received a condolences card from his office about a week later. I wasn’t expecting it, but it touched my heart and showed how much he and his team genuinely care. One of my other beloved chihuahuas lived an incredible 21 years. He was more first dog ever and from his puppy years to his geriatric years he has been at this clinic. In his final days, after suffering a stroke, Dr. Schacnner acted immediately, explained the situation clearly, and gave me all the facts I needed. Thanks to his expertise, my dog’s life was extended by an additional three months, and he was able to pass away naturally. In addition my daughter got to enjoy him with me in those final moments and that is priceless. I could never repay him for the precious extra time I was given. Over the years, I’ve had four chihuahuas, and now I have just one, but no matter the situation, Dr. Schacnner always finds a way to make things work. His office assistant, Donna, is also amazing always supportive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. I am forever grateful for the care my pets have received here, and I highly recommend Dr. Schacnner and his team to anyone who wants the very best for their pets.

I brought my 13 year-old Shorty bulldog to this veterinary to be put to sleep vets name Gary GLICKMAN, assistants …Samantha and Laura This was the most horrific experience I’ve ever gone through over years of having several dogs. I was sitting in the waiting room holding my 35 lb shorty bulldog Named Gina …..The vet come up and said what’s going on with this one ? Didn’t even ask what her name was. Crying ….I told him why I was there. A few minutes later , the doctor and his assistant came in the room and wanted to put a catheter into her arm. I said I’ve never seen it done like this before, normally it’s just 2 needles…. First one to sedate and relax them and the second one to euthanize . In my experience, this is the way it’s done and your beloved pet goes quietly and peacefully . I asked if they could do it without the catheter ….and they said no this is how we do it here. As they proceeded to put the catheter in her little arm, Gina started to scream in pain and fear. They asked me to leave the room until they finish this part. Crying and not thinking rationally under the circumstance I went to the waiting room to sit with my friend . We heard Gina screaming …..then it went quiet , then we heard other sounds , so I decided to go back to the room to see what was going on …when the vet saw me coming , he said to his assistants, let her go. My old dog was laying on the table, being restrained by three people to keep her quiet while trying to put the catheter in …they had a muzzle on her and tried to quickly remove it before I could see it. Thats the sound we heard. They muzzled her to stop her from screaming. In 13 1/2 years no one has ever put a muzzle on this dog . It was horrifying . I guess they finally sedated her without the catheter , which is what they should have done in the first place rather than torture this poor little thing during her final moments. Just Common sense.!!! These people had NO regards nor compassion for my baby girl. She was just supposed to leave us peacefully. 🥲 Thinking back I should’ve just taken her off the table and away from them and left ….now I have to live with this terrible nightmare for the rest of my life. She deserved so much better. I regret ever walking into this place . I recommend you never leave your pet alone in a room with these people for not even five minutes from my experience - [ ] 💔💔💔💔

The best bird center in the neighborhood. Very attentive and knowledgeable doctor. Spent a lot of time asking questions and providing care information for my cockatiel parrot. Staff is very nice and caring! Definitely recommend for your furry and feather friends.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this veterinary clinic based on several troubling experiences. Over time, I’ve encountered multiple issues—from nail trims that didn’t go well to medications that made my dog sick. I’ve been charged excessive and unclear fees, and most concerningly, my dogs’ charts were mixed up. A particularly alarming moment was when one of my dogs was diagnosed with a stage 2 heart murmur, yet the veterinarian failed to document it. Thankfully, a relief vet later caught this critical oversight. While the primary veterinarian may be competent in routine cases, the clinic’s overall communication and accountability are lacking. During a recent visit, I was charged a tech fee despite not being seen by the veterinarian. When you go to a clinic, you expect to speak directly with the doctor—not just a technician—and to have your concerns acknowledged. Unfortunately, attempts to raise these concerns with the staff were met with indifference. Receptionists routinely refuse to pass along messages, making it nearly impossible to have your voice heard unless you physically go in and demand to speak with someone. This level of neglect from both the staff and administration leaves you feeling like just another number—not a pet parent entrusting them with a beloved family member’s care. I’ve since learned that many other clinics in the area do not charge extra tech fees and have much more compassionate, communicative teams. I sincerely hope this practice improves its transparency and commitment to care, but until then, I cannot recommend it. What’s even more disheartening is how the clinic chooses to handle concerns. Rather than reaching out to discuss or resolve the issues I raised, the staff has repeatedly ignored my attempts to communicate and instead claimed my concerns were “false.” This kind of response makes it impossible to find resolution and only deepens the sense of being dismissed. If you read their responses to critical reviews, you’ll notice a pattern—rather than taking accountability, they often deflect blame back onto the client. I encourage anyone reading this to look through other reviews and see for themselves how others with legitimate concerns have been similarly disregarded. This lack of accountability and unwillingness to engage constructively is not what you should expect from a trusted veterinary provider.Whilst I don’t drive and must rely on Uber to transport a senior dog with a heart condition, I’ve made the difficult but necessary decision to seek care elsewhere. Quality should always outweigh convenience—especially when it comes to your pet’s health. Please don’t settle based on location alone. Choose a veterinary provider that truly prioritizes communication, competence, and compassion. Your dog deserves nothing less.

There isn’t much to say besides if you have an exotic pet in need of vet care this is the place hands down. All my exotics and even my dogs have gone here. Everyone is fantastic! I’ve been going here for years and never had any issues.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such an outstanding veterinary team in our neighborhood. From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed with warmth and care that immediately puts you at ease. Every visit with them was always a positive experience. Our dog absolutely loved going there—he would get so excited as soon as we pulled up. Sadly, when he passed, their compassion didn't stop. They sent us a beautiful and thoughtful card with his paw in ink that meant the world to us during such a difficult time. Their kindness and dedication go beyond words, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the love and care they showed both our dog and our family. We also now have his paw in ceramic done by them. What a team🙏🏻🧡

Went for a 1 time visit in July of last year, paid in full for product with charge card. Months later they charge me with a balance of monies saying tax wasn't collected at time of visit. Be careful. Update to my review: I just want too say that the owners contacted and resolved the problem and they were very apologetic and I was greatful for the kind words and they claim the mistake on there part. All in all my visit was excellent and very on point with my dog. Please except my apology for this bad review.

Yelp
What a wonderful office with a caring and helpful team. I took my son's bearded dragon last minute on a holiday and they were able to accommodate me right away. They made sure to call and follow up with genuine concern. I truly appreciate them and highly recommend this office.

Yelp
They took amazing care of our guinea pig. From scheduling, care and follow up, we felt very secure.

Yelp
I can't thank this practice or the vet enough for everything they did for me and my dog today. My dog started experiencing diarrhea and was not acting like herself. After calling 8 vets in my area, I got lucky enough to call the right one that asked me to come in as soon as possible so she could be evaluated. The office staff were very friendly and helpful the entire office visit. The vet thoroughly explained everything and came up with a treatment plan that was reasonably priced. I would recommend this vet to everybody with a pet that they consider their baby.

Yelp
If you are looking for an honest & a great doctor for your dog/cat,etc. This one is the #1 in so fl, Dr.Calos owns Neighborhood Veterinary Center 754 E Hallandale Beach Blvd (754) 702-4362. Read the reviews on his Yelp site ! You'll be glad you did!!!!! Tell him that "Joe The War Vet & Late Roger sent you ". Many people I spoke to love this doctor and you will too. My last 2 reviews about "Animal Medical Center & Bird Clinic of Hollywood " is true and honest Read them on Yelp site, I give 1 star if it was up to me I'll give 0 stars !!!!!! Yelp
Believe it or not I have lived in East Hollywood for 19 years and never knew this place existed! It's across the street from Little Flower Church on the West side. On the North side of the street is my State Farm agent. It all started when my regular vet told me they no longer groom cats. I thought they were kidding. I even made a joke but they didn't laugh. Called on a different day expecting a different response but nope they weren't kidding. So what am I to do? We'll long story short I found this place. Took my cat in personally as I was worried. Worried you got to be kidding I found cat heaven! They not only speak cat and have a resident cat same age as my Lucy. He even hung out with her to keep her company as she waited to be seen. Not only do they speak cat they are cat centric. I truly have found a little bit of heaven here so close to home! They were very sweet with my baby girl. You see she gets a little lumpy in her back fur and I have gotten her shaved in the past. She only looks pissed afterwards as well as violated. Instead here she got bathed, ears cleaned, nails done. The cherry on top was the cute bandanna they put on her. Little did they know it's her twelfth birthday and we celebrate all month! She was so happy even waited at the door when I got home to show off her new hair doo! This place has a new customer for life! Could never imagine such a wonderful experience for both of us. Thank you!

Yelp
Thank you very much for being so human with LUNA my dog and much more with the present of her footprint that you sent me... Thank you

Yelp
Dr. Bob misdiagnosed my dog with hypothyroid and told us to put him on medication that he didn't need for almost 2 years. Thank goodness we decided to switch our dogs primary vet and recheck his thyroid values. Turns out he's perfectly healthy and doesn't need to be on thyroid medications! Not only was it a waste of money to spend on medication that was not needed, but it could be dangerous to have him on meds long term especially for something that wasn't necessary to be on! Very disappointed

Yelp
I have lived in Hollywood for over 40 years and have been to every vet within a 5 mile radius trying to find compassion, knowledge, and a fair price. Found it and I don't know why it took so long. Dr Bob and his staff are warm, welcoming, and truly listen. His office has the old school hometown feel to it. I've enjoyed talking to other clients while waiting. I came here for a second opinion on my 13 year old cat and I feel like he's getting the best treatment for his situation.

Yelp
I brought in a stray kitty for a spay and rabies shot through the Broward county TNR feral spay program. She had complications because of parasites we did not know about and stopped breathing during the procedure. They gave her CPR and revived her but she did not come out of anesthesia like she should have. The vet hoped the cat's youth would work in her favor and that she would rebound. He kept her at the hospital for 2 and half days on medicine and fluids. They let me visit her each day. Even though it was during appointments and working hours I was allowed to stay in the back with the kitty and talk to her and pet her. Ultimately she did not recover and passed away. This was heart breaking for me, but I guess the point is that he went out of his way for a procedure on a feral cat, perhaps one of thousands in S.FL and he didn't have to. Many vets do not accept TNR vouchers. He charged me nothing for the over nights, morphine, anti-inflammatory meds, fluids etc. I was touched by the compassion of Dr. Schachner and his team. They were all rooting for this little tabby to make it and I wish she had.

Yelp
Such Unprofessional staff. I called 5 min ago to ask if they have a USDA accredited vet. After placing me on hold, they rambled something about them being an answering service and hung up on me before I had a chance to ask anything else. LOL! P.S. No, I didn't dial the wrong number because they answered "Animal Medical Center, please hold...".

Yelp
This is an amazing place! My baby is treated amazingly and a woman named Samantha is giving great tips and is very nice. Social distance is a big priority and everyone wears a mask. I definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE So about three years ago I had my baby girl spayed here and it till this day has just been horrible the surgery was completely messed up. They tell me that they use dissolvable stitches and four months after stitches kept coming out of the wound and they tell me to just keep clipping them until it stops it never healed it was an open wound. I had to take her back three or four times actually more then a different doctor that works here tried using honey which healed the bottom portion of the wound not the top and to my surprise I'm still getting a bill for $20 that has accumulated to $30 for the honey. My advice is to be cautious of where you take your animals do a thorough check.

Yelp
DR. NEGLIGENCE KILLED MY PET AND WISHES DEATH ON ALL MY OTHER PETS If you take your pets to the vet expecting to be met with a compassionate, kindhearted, professional veterinarian Doctor then this isn't the office for you. I believe Dr. Shanchner, MALPRACTICED on my pet CAUSING HIM TO DIE only 2 hours after leaving his office. I took my tortoise here and after being half and hour late for our appointment Dr. Robert Shanchner walked in. He did not give me eye contact, or greet me before taking his place nor did he glance in my tortoises direction. I spent the first couple of minutes telling him in detail of my pets condition. He had all the symptoms of a respiratory infection from swollen eyes, mucus discharge, and wheezing. I spent the last 3 days treating him until my appointment date. Exotic pet vets are hard to find so 3 days was the closest availability. During that time my pet showed signs of feeling much better (less mucus, eyes opening, definitely responsive) after telling him this he picks up my tortoise and checks his shell. He did not check his nose, eyes or mouth. He didn't listen to his breathing and he Instantly diagnosed him with metabolic disease. My tortoise was only experiencing one symptom from the list of metabolic disease symptoms. When he finished examining my pet he asked if I had more pets and repeatedly urged me to bring them in as well. All of my other pets are very happy and healthy. After leaving the room and putting together my bill for approval which of course had ADDITIONAL items that were not necessary to my visit I removed what was unneeded and asked him if his treatment would help with my pets respiratory infection. His response was, oh yea let me add something for that. He left the room and added additional treatments to my bill. My tortoise received two injections from Dr Shanchner. I stood directly infront of the table so I can watch how he was injecting my pet but Dr Shanchner moved to the further side of the counter where I can not see his direct action. During these injections I was told one was vitamins to help with his shell and the other was for his respiratory infection. AFTER injecting my tortoise Dr Shanchner tells me that he gave him something for Cat and Dogs because reptile antibiotic do not exist. Trusting the vet I pay my fees and leave only to find my tortoise dead TWO HOURS LATER. Of course I go back sad and upset over my pets life. I confront the doctor and again he did not greet me or look at my pet before sitting at hcareis computer and asking what my problem was. When I told him I believe the injections killed my tortoise, instead of meeting me with compassion over my pet he tells me not to accuse him of killing my pet. He got extremely defensive, did not look at my tortoise turned his back on me and we exchanged words. He told me I brought him a very sick tortoise (not true my tortoise was improving) he even said he wanted to see us back in 10 days never giving me a concern that my pet may be dying soon. Dr Shanchner last direct statement to me was "I hope all your pets die too". Direct words from a man who is supposed to care and treat our pets with love and compassion. I urge you guys not to take your pets here. This isn't a safe place for animals especially exotic ones that need a special type of care

Richard T.

Yelp
My 12 year old boxer Pooperoni was experiencing a pyometra. A veterinary emergent situation. From the time I contacted Dr. Schachner's office to the time I brought Pooperoni home and there after, we were treated with the type of veterinary care any pet owner would want. Thank you Dr. Schachner and team!

Victoria C.

Yelp
I have been using the vet for all of my animal needs for well over 25 years now, I met Dr. Schachner, his caring and knowledgeable staff during a rather hectic time ( of which most animal owners will agree is any time their precious baby is sick and in pain) and his calm demeanor and gentle compassion made me know I was in the right place and the right hands! Having also run an animal rescue during this time, his team and mine have pulled off some amazing victories and comforted each other in those moments when you have done everything you can. He never shies away from the hard questions and what I am absolutely amazed with is this man's humbleness, it is not about ego in any way shape or form it is about the animals health, care and quality of life! Thank you Dr S, and wonderful staff, I have and will continue to recommend you to anyone that wants superb animal care!

Yelp
Three weeks ago I took my parrot to this clinic because it was near my home and advertised as aviary specialists. They are by no means any such thing. After being on antibiotics and numerous nebulizer treatments he still is congested. A few days ago a staff member called to inform me that my bird was suffering from a fungal infection and needed a different medication. So I scheduled an appointment for the soonest available time. Two hours before the appointment The office called to cancel because the vet is out of town and can't make it back in time to see my very sick bird. After being misdiagnosed and paying hundreds of dollars they want to reschedule a week from today. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional. Plus staff are just plain rude. I really wouldn't even give them one star but had to in order for my review to post.

Laura V.

Yelp
Great experience! I purchased a groupon for my cat for the yearly vaccine and took her to the vet to be vaccinated. The personnel was very friendly and they treated us supper nice. Dr.Robert Schachner was amazing. He was very professional and answered to all my questions and concerns. My cat did not need a rabies vaccine( was included in the groupon), but instead she was due for her leukemia vaccine which was not included in the groupon package. The Dr.gave her the leukemia vaccine and did not charge me for it. I thought that was very nice! There was no wait. I certainly go back there with pleasure.

Janice E.

Yelp
This is one of the few places in the area that does birds and reptiles. They also do cats and dogs so I am basing this only on my experience with my iguanas. I have had a hard time finding vets who do iguanas. I happened to find them almost by accident. One of their vet techs is a snake person himself so he doesn't creeped out by my five foot iguana. Yesterday the vet and tech spent 45 minutes with me and the sick iguana I found. I also like the fact that they aren't a chain. There are few independent vets left. I used to go to Hollywood animal hospital until they merged with VCA. I may start bringing my cats here also. Down side is they are small and don't have an emergency service.

Lory B.

Yelp
Dr Robert Schachner is a very caring person who has donated his services and supplies for pets in need. He has a heart of gold. The ladies up front don't move very fast but the office runs pretty smoothly. I've been a client for over 10 years and have no complaints.

Fred G.

Yelp
Been bring my animals to Animal Medical for years. Doc is the best and I've had some difficult dogs. His staff is so caring. I totally recommend this vet for your babies!
