Family Cafe Review - North Beach - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Family Cafe is a North Beach spot inspired by Japan’s kissaten cafe culture, meaning attention to detail and warm hospitality are big priorities. This is why coming to the intimate, cozy space feels like stepping inside an old friend’s kitchen, or why the relaxed atmosphere always makes us want to pull up a stool, set our phone to Do Not Disturb, and stay awhile. We especially like heading to Family Cafe for extra-long lunches. The service is never rushed, and, of course, the food is fantastic, from the sandwiches to the curries. The rich chicken katsu curry is always a great option if you want a heartier lunch, but know that no trip here is complete without getting one of their excellent baked goods, like chocolate chip cookies or blackberry matcha cupcakes. Food Rundown photo credit: Sarah Felker Chicken Katsu Curry Rich, thick, and packed with veggies and little chunks of chicken, this is one of our favorite Japanese curries in the city. It’s poured alongside a bed of koshihikari rice and chicken katsu that’s fried to a deep golden-brown. photo credit: Sarah Felker King George Sando You might actually dislocate your jaw trying to take a bite of this sandwich - it’s stacked so high it seems physically impossible. But the effort is worth it, especially for its rainbow of fresh, colorful veggies, including avocado, beets, carrots, cucumber, and shredded cabbage. Plus, the entire thing, down to the sourdough bread, is vegan. photo credit: Sarah Felker Chicken Katsu Sando This hearty sandwich is made with big, tender hunks of chicken thigh, and we wish we could use the soft milk bread it comes on as a pillow. This is our ideal midweek lunch." - Julia Chen

Google
The store was nice and the service was nice, the person who took my order was friendly and easy to talk to. There was a lot to see while waiting for your order to get ready. I got a mango soda with tapioca pearls. It was good and worth it. There was a strong aroma in the store though. Like they were trying too hard to smell sweet if that makes sense but it was manageable. Overall it's a nice and cozy place to pick up a drink or get a little cute snack.

Google
This place is a little tight and gets fairly busy but otherwise no complaints. The tea was good. The merch selection is fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed browsing what they had. They had some cool local events being advertised there as well. I also enjoyed that they play anime while you’re in there.

Google
Don’t sleep on Anime. The Bubble tea is delicious, creative, and always on point. Their menu hits the mark whether you’re new to boba or a long-time lover. One of our personal favorites in the area!

Google
6/27/25.... Went in for a tea.... Rude as all heck girl didn't say welcome stood there smacking gum in her cheek staring at me waiting for me to just say something like I was supposed to know that normally everyone says welcome to anime Cafe what can I get for you I am very disappointed because normally people are very nice there

Sky C.

Google
very cute shop for a date, but the Boba is mid, they barely give you any for $8 … Hi-Tea and Bubble & Bean will give you more worth your money

Google
Cute space with super cute merchandise. They always have some sort of anime playing and they're pretty quick to get your order out. They have really delicious steamed buns and different flavors every Saturday. The only thing that's not ideal is the place is pretty small so more than 4 customers in there gets crowded

Antonieta

Google
Definitely a dream to go to a cafe that is all about anime. It's small and intimate, but overall it's cute. There's a TV playing an anime so it's random for everyday and the cafe would rearrange items on shelves. Been here twice and they have Japanese snacks like mochi, azuki buns. So good and the buns are huge!!!

Google
I love it here, it's so fun. The last time I went, they were playing Fruits Basket on the TV and I got to watch it while I was waiting for my drink which gave me so much joy. Also, their tea is genuinely so good! They also have lots of little snacks and merch it's just an amazing environment, I love it.

Yelp
Super cute place to get your Boba on! What drew me in was the promise of hot Boba. It was cold out and the hot matcha was in point. The cashier brought out our drinks on a little tray, rather than just sitting them on the counter, which impressed me. Good price point, too. I'd return, for sure

Yelp
Great boba! Great people! Highly recommend the iced, black tea, Thai tea, with extra boba, 50% sweetness, and less ice!

Yelp
I come here all the time, really love the food and the employees they are always great. The atmosphere is also really cute in there. They have lots of anime, merch, and play anime all the TV.

Yelp
Amazing this place doesn't have a line 20 people long! Most unique cafes in larger cities would! The owner is super creative and appeals to the younger crowd. Most merchandise is from Japan. Try out the special on Tuesdays. Boba tea is so swwweeet and delicious!!

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times now. Nice little place and the people there were very helpful and friendly. I came in asking a lot of questions and couldn't make up my mind. They were patient with me and I did not feel rushed. Plus, the drinks were really good. All my visits here have been positive. I do recommend trying this place out.

Yelp
This is one of the coolest boba cafe's that I have ever been to in the United States. There is a fun anime ambiance all throughout the cafe. There are tons of Japanese snacks, drinks, and merchandise. The boba is delicious and there are lots of flavors to choose from. They even have a seasonal warm boba milk tea for the cold winter months. The owner is super sweet and personable. She is very impressive being that she is only 19 years old and running her own business! This is a must if you like boba and Japanese pop culture.

Yelp
This is probably the best bubble tea place in Northwest Arkansas. I just went a few minutes ago, and the atmosphere there is so amazing. It makes me feel energized! Everything up to the taiyaki (specifically the Italian cheese one) is so amazing. Plus, the merchandise is so cute, and snacks are, too.

Yelp
Loved it! Cute little shop! Made my order of 4 drinks super quick and tasted great! Menu was really easy to read

Yelp
Love the drinks, customer service and it's aesthetically pleasing. One of my favorite spots to stop and grab a boba tea. :)

Vyctoria S.

Yelp
They're always so friendly and the boba is always incredible. I've gotten so many pillows and merch I couldn't find anywhere else. Thank you guys!

Yelp

Tracie K.

Yelp
It's exactly the kind of place I anticipated. Really cute, neat theme- seemed very well pulled together and true to its name. The boba tea was great and they had loads of great options. Customer service was good and quick.
google avatar

Yelp
Maybe it just wasn't the greatest experience today? Order a mango boba. But it had very grain mix to it. Flavor was alright. Nothing to write home about. The girl was nice enough but didn't offer any recommendations or help just took our order made it. K thanks bye. The cafe itself is cute and welcoming. Prices are a bit higher for the mochi. We'll give them another try in the future if we're in the area but won't make another special trip for it. People who are into anime will like the decor and things for sale a lot. They have some cute items for sale.
google avatar

Jacob H.

Yelp
The snacks and teas are great! I'm perhaps not the target audience for the decor, though it does have spirit! The large number of tea flavours and the really good steamed buns will be enough to get me back again soon. You can choose between iced and frozen teas, both with tapioca or boba pearls. Each option includes numerous flavours and fun treats to try out. Overall I will return to try out other flavours of teas and steamed buns! Both of which I enjoyed on my visit.

Yelp
Stopped by this little cafe to get some boba tea and mochi ice cream. It was small but if you're an anime fan, I'm sure you'd like the decor! As for the drinks, we got taro boba with green tea and matcha boba with green tea. They both were not very sweet. Comparing the flavor to other flavors I've had, I would say definitely below par. The taro did not taste like taro at all. BUT the boba pearls were sweet and super yummy!! Also got mochi ice cream. Had to let them sit in the sun on my car dash for 20 minutes before they were thawed enough to bite into them. Couldn't even tell which flavors were which because they were just all kind of weird. I LOVE mochi ice cream and have had it a lot. Enough to know that these were no bueno... Definitely wouldn't go again but was a pleasant enough experience.

Yelp
Interesting little shop. I escorted my niece and her friend here because they wanted some bubble tea. I'm sure if you like anime, then this is a quaint little shop for you complete with anime playing on the big screen and lots of merchandise. Bubble tea and ice cream available. I tried my nieces strawberry on strawberry which was a pink "tea" concoction that tasted like that pink medicine you used to have to take as a kid when sick with strawberry "jellies" in it. Gag. Not for me. With that said though my niece and her friend love it.

Yelp
Fun new Bubble tea with a wonderful family environment. Cute store, adorable cafe, something great to take the kids to! There are lots of cute anime gifts and treats.

Yelp
A very cute business with awesome bubble tea. I highly recommended trying this place.

Yelp
This was a great Bubble Tea stop! They have two (2) bases: #1 Black Tea and #2 Jasmine Green Tea and plenty of add-in's to choose from. The store has a great ambiance and the staff was super friendly and allowed free samples to our "new-to-boba" nice to help her select a flavor that she would like. I would highly recommend this cafe!

Yelp
THE ANIME CAFE! My absolute favorite place to come for my boba! I love this place from the boba to the great staff that works here. Not only that but the great anime stuff that I find here and the Japanese snacks are awesome and delicious. My favorite drink to get here is the horchata drink with coffee jelly's

Jean M.

Yelp
Recently moved to Rogers from the Bay Area, near San Jose CA, and was very happy to find this place! Being half Japanese, I was thrilled to see all the Japanese snacks and Knick knacks with so many to choose from! I usually find a few things in "generic " Asian markets, most in Fayetteville, but this Cafe has a nice variety and is close to my house. The teas we ordered were delicious and I purchased some Japanese goodies to snack on. Will definitely be back!!

Olivia R.

Yelp
Such a cute little shop! Friendly and fast service. Lots of tea options, I had the Thai milk tea. Would recommend!

Yelp
Cute and tiny spot. Based on others' reviews, I think maybe I'm used to Taiwanese boba tea instead of Japanese, because this was very different from the many other places I've had it. I liked the strong black tea flavor in the lavender boba tea I ordered here but the texture was way off for my preference. One of the options here is iced versus frozen and I wanted the thick slushy type of boba tea. Instead mine was neither iced or frozen in texture - pretty much just liquid and lukewarm, with a little bit of cool foam in it, I'm not sure what caused this or if it's the norm. I drank it immediately, in the shop and on the street beyond, so it didn't have time to melt. The tapioca pearls were perfect. I just can't go higher than 3 stars based on my experience because it was still tasty but definitely the least wonderful boba tea experience I've had. They do have a lot of great flavor options though and "popping boba" with extra flavor. The stuff they sell here is all extremely adorable and if you or your child/teen are very interested in anime, you will probably love it here and want to make several purchases (Studio Ghibli fans especially). As more of a diehard boba drinks fan I was a little less impressed and do prefer Taiwanese/Vietnamese places that offer this.

Bridget B.

Yelp
We bought 4 drinks and the total was almost $30. The drinks were so bad that we couldn't even drink them. We threw them in the trash the minute we walked out the door. The brown sugar boba were like jellies and not actual boba. The frozen teas tasted like powder. It's also making my stomach hurt really badly from the 2 sips. DONT GO HERE!!

Rebecca A.

Yelp
Amazing bubble tea with the most unique variety of flavors and toppings that I've ever seen! Definitely the go-to place for Boba in the area.

Yelp
Walked in and it was nice and warm! Lots of anime goods (hoodies, shoes, snacks, drinks) and anime playing on a huge flat screen! This is now my favorite place to go when I have some time off. They're the nicest people I've met ever and don't seem to care about money. They care about your order and to get it to you quick! 10/10 would recommend to anyone

Celena A.

Yelp
Anime cafe is by far the best boba tea I have ever tasted. I go there almost everyday after school they never fail to get my exact order. One time I was sick and couldn't drink cold drinks so they were kind and made it hot for me! The staff is great and the tea is absolutely delightful and delicious. Keep it up!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places. I love the lavender one and the horchata one. I come here a lot on my lunch break. The owner is the nicest lady. And I love that they have the stamp card. Especially since I come so often. Can't wait to go next week.

Yelp
Such a cute, friendly, and dainty place! Super yummy and definitely coming back! The vibe and everything is awesome! Such a cute place for Instagram aesthetic pictures.

Eliana P.

Yelp
I really enjoy the boba tea and I suggest that you check it out! Besides the tea they have really neat items that you can buy and other snacks! It's a great price and worth it!

Yelp
I love this place. They've taken great care in creating a fun and unique atmosphere. The bubble tea and taiyaki are totally worth coming to downtown Rogers for!

Seth C.

Yelp
The anime cafe brings a great experience to downtown Rogers. As for the drinks they were just ok in my opinion. The bobas weren't as good as my previous experiences with boba tea. As for traditional boba tea is from Taiwan this tea is a Japanese style. But if you aren't going their for boba they also have iced coffee and other Asian style snacks.

A D.

Yelp
I've been to a lot of Boba tea places and this one is great. The staff is friendly, the teas are excellent, as well as the sweets, and the merchandise is pretty cool. A great place to spend a lazy Saturday or get out of the heat and enjoy a nice cold drink.
