Highlights

The Misfit Restaurant + Bar in Santa Monica reprises a "back to the bar" ideal of casual destination dining serving thoughtfully-crafted cocktails and ingredient-driven cooking. The restaurant is steps away from the country's leading farmers' market. A large percentage of the menu is dedicated to celebrating that year-round. The Misfit's happy hour is continuously voted "Best Happy Hour" in LA, by publications including The Los Angeles Times, Eater LA, as well as notable national and international news outlets.

Loved this place, but I hear that it recently shut down. :(

Yelp
One of my Favorite Spots in Santa Monica! If you like Lobster, you must order the Lobster Nick Sliders! They are so good, just the right amount & consistently served good. Chamomile tequila drink exposed me to infusing drinks with tea. Perfect balance. Nice ambiance, darker atmosphere even when it is sunny out. The bartenders are usually pretty knowledgeable. Conveniently located near all the restaurants and shops, easy to access. Pro Tip: Be sure to call ahead to make sure it isn't closed or being reserved for a private event.

Yelp
Came here for my brother's birthday dinner. We were sat upstairs in the booth, right in front of the kitchen. Being on the second floor gave you a Birds Eye view of the entire restaurant which was pretty cool. The food options are like an elevated bar menu. Some things I tried were the Brussels sprouts, French fries, bacon wrapped dates, and I ordered the braised beef tacos as my entree. Food was brought out very quickly! The only item I didn't really enjoy were the dates: a little too sweet and just didn't have the flavor profile I was hoping for. Brussels were tasty and my tacos were good although I do think the braised beef could have had more flavor to it. Our waitress was nice enough but really didn't have too much of a personality and at one point, she was yelling over the table when she could have just walked to the other side where those diners would be able to hear her better. Overall, service was fine and we always tip above and beyond. Interior of the restaurant/bar is pretty rustic circa 1920's type speakeasy vibes. Oh and they have salted chocolate chip cookies at the entrance for you to help yourself to. Great touch!

Yelp
Made a reservation through yelp and wait time was less than 5 minutes. The ambiance of this place is great! The interior is dark and moody. We loved the high ceilings, paintings on the wall, and the bar area itself. Staff is very friendly! We got two grapefruit drinks. Both were good and pretty strong. We didn't end up getting any food, but the menu looked good as well. Definitely will try this place again; I felt like we didn't order enough!

Yelp
Place is packed on a Monday. Wanting something different. Misfits is the best walking option. Ordered prime rib nibs and a glass of cab on the happy hour. Slander ribs were spot on perfect. Great service and I will be back with my friends Ambience in the historic building is delightful

Yelp
I ended up coming here on a whim after looking for new places to try in the area, and I'm so glad I did! The restaurant ambiance is dark and fancy. I felt under dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, but most of the parties there had the same. Our server was super attentive, and explained how everything was (shareable plates tapas style, with single meals on the bottom.) We ordered the fries, the burger, and the chicken sandwich. Everything comes a-la-carte, but in really big portions. Both the burger and chicken sandwich were huge and delicious. The fries were amazing as well and were a huge portion. All in all I would definitely recommend coming here, and will be back soon.

Yelp
We came here with friends before going to see a magic show a couple blocks away. We were on the Wait List from a phone call earlier in the day and fortunately a table was available for us. We split a Crispy Chicken sandwich that was good but not as large as described by our server, who was very nice. Our friends also ordered two dishes they liked plus French fries for table and they enjoyed their food. My margarita, half price during happy hour ,was okay. A challenge for my wife was the menu as there were very few things she saw that she'd want to order, and there were only 3 or 4 items I'd order. The atmosphere is nice, one can see what's happening on Santa Monica Blvd if near a window and our chairs comfy as well.

Yelp
Ohhhhmyyyygosssssh!!!!!! The Misfit's Restaurant & Bar was mind blowing! 10/10 So get this; my fiancé does not like tomatoes. And he tried the avocado toast, and LOVED it. I have never seen him eat tomatoes! Let alone gobble them up lol He even said that he was shocked at how good the avocado toast was. It had such good flavor! And the purple grapes on top, wow. That was a great touch! A slight sweetness that just added to the overall complexity of the appetizer! The hummus plate was absolutely amazing! Again, not your typical hummus that is just plopped on a plate. This had depth and complexity! The hummus had oil, and a garnish added to it. The pita bread was soft and crunchy at the same time. It had some seasoning that was wonderful with the hummus! 10/10 My fiancé usually doesn't care for hummus much. I'm the hummus lover. And this was top notch hummus! The Mac and cheese was soooo cheesy! Everything you'd want if you are a cheese lover. It had the melted cheese on top. It had the rue on the bottom. The pasta noodles were cooked nicely. It came together and was creamy and super cheesy. 10/10 Service was good. Ambiance was laid back. I liked some of the decor. Very unique restaurant. And the food ROCKS!

Yelp
Currently at 4.6k+ reviews and counting, there's probably not too much I can add here that someone else hasn't already said. Despite the popularity, last weekend was somehow my first time at The Misfit Restaurant + Bar. Having walked past it countless times in the past, it's a shame it took me so long to actually stop in. The decor, ambiance, and service are all top notch. While I didn't try any of their food, the cocktails we tried at the bar were all very impressive. The bartenders definitely know what they're doing at this establishment. I'm already planning my second trip back to The Misfit to try their food. I can't wait!

Alyson D.

Yelp
Misfit is always a hit! I will always recommend it for people who visit. Their menu is so creative and tasty, both for food and cocktails! Pretty much anything can be made gluten-free too which is awesome. And they have free cookies at the front!

Mari M.

Yelp
Loved this place. Great customer service with great food and drinks. Prices are pricey but so worth it. Food comes out very quick. This place is fancy and can be great for a date night. If you are in the area I definitely recommend to try this place. Plates are small portioned so if you have a big appetite I wouldn't recommend eating here. If you want to have good appetizers/ small portion and great drinks then definitely stop here.

Yelp
Is it a good thing or a bad thing that The Misfit is a 2 minute walk from my office? Not sure! But i'm definitely a huge fan! I recently got a new job (yay me!) and i'm nestled in the bustling little town of Santa Monica (maybe you've heard of it). One of the best features of working in a super walkable part of the city is the amount of restaurants nearby and The Misfit is no exception! My favorite part? All day happy hour, of course! Every day (yes even Saturday) you can partake in all of the discounted yum yums (and drinky drinks) from 12pm-7pm. I've taken friends, dates, coworkers to this spot and everyone agrees The Misfit is a wonderful place to hang out, unwind, enjoy yourself. A huge fan of decor, I am. This place has a great vintage vibe, books behind the bar, an epic staircase, and the cutest bathrooms ever. My personal favorites are: The Red pepper walnut dip (sounds crazy, totally delicious) - you can even ask for more bread when you run out (drool). The Japanese Dream - I am the biggest matcha cocktail fan and this is totally up my alley. Green, beautifully, matcha-y and a little sweet. Love it! I love the Misfit, its a great place for all the good times and I can't wait get back in there!

Yelp
Came here the other night with some friends after an escape room. Was seated right away, which was nice, but it was a sugar night so a little less busy. We started with a couple cocktails which didn't necessarily stand out in any way, though the Mai Tai had decent flavor. For food, we started with a plate of truffle fries and a shrimp and bass ceviche. The fries were fries, I feel everyone has true fries these days. The ceviche was interesting as they used plantain chips as the delivery device, which have a nice sweet contrast with the spice in the Fresno chile. The mussels and clams with chorizo were also okay. While I enjoyed the side they were cooked in, I felt it needed a little something to boost it to a memorable level, but it wasn't bad. For the entrees we had crispy chicken sliders which, while crispy, I felt the chicken needed some more seasoning to it. We also tried the smash burger which looked great on presentation, and was a decent burger, but felt the meat also needed to be seasoned better Overall, fun little spot on the west side, good for a night out with friends, but the food and drinks could use a little step up

Yelp
Update: The food was scrumptious, the service was impeccable and the company took the cake. Our server, Berlin recommended some really great dishes and the manager, Mallika really sealed the deal with showing us the warm misfit hospitality. Hummus: We were between the guacamole and the hummus and glad that we decided to go with the hummus. This was apparently their specialty, and recommended by our server - I really liked this. It tasted fresh, zesty and perfectly flavored. I freaking love their pita. It's so thin, cooked and flavored to perfection. The lobster Nik Niks were perfect. chefs kiss. The lobster, although fried still retained its sweet and scrumptious taste. The bacon, tomato and greens really balanced the sliders and it was perfectly complimented by the dip it came with. Yum This was my second time trying this place as I didn't love the food during my first experience, the manager reached out and offered for me to come back. They didn't know it was me until the end of the meal, and the service and food were still really good! I would 10/10 be recommending this place!

Yelp
Decided to try this spot forDine in LA. We had the lunch and it was $15. This included a small appetizer and an entrée. We had the crispy chicken sandwich and the double-decker Smashburger. Both were amazingly tasty. Although the appetizer was very small, the whole meal was enough to fill us up. I am looking forward to returning.

Estele K.

Yelp
Food 4/5: the lobster rolls were really good, almost tasted like fried chicken sandwich. The blue corn sand dab tacos were also really good, hard shells, seasoned perfectly fish, with baby mango, wow! But the Brussel sprouts tasted like it was already cooked long time ago and got microwaved before it was served. I asked for refund because it was too cold and chewy, and they apologized. Cocktail Fin n Juice was also great, very refreshing, but my husband said his espresso martini was too sweet. (Happy hour till 7pm so got 50% off) Service was great. We got accommodated well. Ambiance is good for dates, any hangouts. I highly recommend.

Jewel L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! We had a variety of appetizers and some tasty cocktails. I would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Had made reservations for a Tuesday evening, and this place was busy! There was no host(es) when we entered and we waited for a good 7 minutes just for someone to come greet us and then eventually take us to our table. We were bringing in a close friends birthday, so we stuck to drinks and ordered our food togo. Our cocktails included Fin n' Juice, Chrisopher Oaxacan, and One Night in Babylon - all of them were really good! Food included Baby Cauliflower ($15), and the stem was a little hard to chew, but a tasty dish and Falafel Lettuce Wraps ($18) which were probably best to be consumed in the restaurant itself - because they got very dry by the time I ate the wrap. Microwave heating did not help either, and the harissa tahini was lesser than I would've liked it to be. Noise levels were on the medium end, service though, once we were seated, was excellent. Food arrived within 15-mins of placing our order.

Yelp
Came for lunch on a Saturday! FLAVOR (3.7/5): 1. JAPANESE DREAM: I really liked this drink! Smooth and the basil comes through without being too overpowering. 2. CRISPY BRUSSELS SPROUTS: I've had crispy brussels sprouts at about every establishment in LA and unfortunately these fall short. They're good, but the flavor isn't soaked all the way through like with Bacari's brussels sprouts. 3. MARKET TOMATOES: This was a nice, light appetizer! The tomatoes were fresh and everything was nicely seasoned. SERVICE (5/5): Service was amazing! AMBIENCE (5/5): The Misfit is a cute bar and was relatively busy for a rainy afternoon. Definitely a great date spot! PARKING (5/5): To the reviewer who said to park at 1444 4th St, Santa Monica, CA 90401 for 90 minutes free parking... you are amazing. TAKEAWAYS: Would definitely come back again and try more of their drinks - I'm curious what the vibe is at night... I imagine it's pretty popular.

Gloria W.

Yelp
Stopped for drinks and apps and everything was decently priced. Interior felt weirdly extravagant, but it was pleasant overall. Bartenders were attentive.

Nallely O.

Yelp
Loved everything we had here! We tried the macaroni and tacos. The ambiance is great and the happy hour is so good!

Kiyah S.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of fried chicken sandwiches, but ever since my girlfriend developed a gluten allergy, she hasn't been able to enjoy them with me--until we found this amazing restaurant! Their gluten-free fried chicken sandwich is hands down one of the best in the city. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, you'd never guess it's gluten-free. It's a game-changer for anyone with dietary restrictions who still craves that classic crunch. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Had some fun at this fairly classy looking yet casual bar in Santa Monica. It may look like an expensive place, and some things are expensive, but it's got pretty good specials going on. The Misfit is a good place for brunch according to quite a few people. A lot of things good for that time of day or something like it. You can also go in the evening for the happy hour specials. Cool place even though it gets crowded. It's known for the happy hour specials. These are from 12 to 7, even on Saturdays, which is a rare thing. Can save a ton on drinks. It's about $17 for cocktails, but at happy hour it's half price. Wow. Best one we had was the If It Ain't Broke. This is Del Maguey Vida Mezcal with cilantro, lime juice, pineapple juice, and serrano. Entrees can be pricy, but there's some affordable sharable appetizers. It's $12 for the Hummus. This comes with a generous portion of pitas. Great place with a long happy hour. It's one of the best ones for sure. The happy hour includes many of the expensive cocktails, and the food menu has everything from burgers and seafood, to appetizers like the hummus and whatever.

Yelp
Our Daughter was in town and we decided to try this place. Atmosphere is very cool. Food is served like tapas style. We ordered the Brussel sprouts, the fries, the tacos, crispy chicken sandwich and pasta. What was amazing was how quickly the food came out. Their drinks were very good as well. Overall service was good, food was great and I'd definitely eat there again

Cv m.

Yelp
Loved Drinks delicious Decor so cool Prices are beyond reasonable Will definitely come back

Darlynn C.

Yelp
In the ghost town of 3rd St Promenade, this is one place that still feels alive. Big bar which good service and tasty cocktails. Food is ok. Nothing special but a solid spot to eat. The vibe feels young and fun.

Jessie E.

Yelp
We came in for lunch and really enjoyed the vibe here. The decor was nice, service was great! The food we ordered was on point. We got the cobb salad, cheeseburger, fries. They even gave us some yummy cookies at the end of our meal! Way better than those old school chocolate mints!

ruth r.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place before they closed and I loved the inside and decor of the place. The Mezcal drink that I ordered was delicious. We mentioned if the bartender could make it more spicy and he did. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area again.

Brenna A.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in town. The dark academia vibe is good for many occasions, an after work drink, girls night, a date, etc. Their menu is a little long and overwhelming, but the food and drinks were delicious and worth the price, given local alternatives. I also appreciated the server asking about any allergies before getting started.

Floris R.

Yelp
Wow! I must say the food and drinks were so good that I forgot to take pictures! I can however tell you that for a place being called the misfit : they sure fit everything perfectly! The staff were amazing and like bees constantly moving from place to place keeping the orders coming effortlessly! The food was delicious and super fast delivered! Please try the bacon wrapped dates, the beef nik nocks and the wings! + Ambiance =Perfection !

Gina N.

Yelp
This place has great food and drinks. They have good happy hour deals. It was also fun sitting at the bar. The bartender was really nice. Both times that I've gone here, I've been seated right away. This is a place is also pretty close to the beach.

Janet D.

Yelp
I am sure this place is great for drinks, but the food I happened to order was just mediocre. Mokpo Chicken wings 7/10, I should have read the menu, it does specify "gochujang". Which had a funky-sweet taste to them. Next, Misfit Mac& cheese 6/10, pasta texture was mushy/ clumpy. Their Hand cut kennebec Fries 5/10, few on top were perfect but the rest were short, overcooked and dry. I did enjoy their Crispy Chicken Sandwich 10/10, soft bun with crispy chicken and fennel slaw. Disappointed I didn't get to try their sea salt cookies, was not offered any. Service was okay. I dropped in on a Friday during lunch, not busy and seated properly. Kitchen fee (4%) included Tip options 20%, 22%, 25%

Robbin R.

Yelp
Came recently for happy hour. Still a great spot even with the construction happening around. I appreciate the consistent service I receive when dining here. Tried some different items. I do like the falafel cups, however it's not made for eating by hand with the lettuce cups. Lol need bigger lettuce leaves. The Harissa sauce is hella good! French fries are a must. The ceviche is okay, nothing to write home about. Same with the crudo. The signature cocktails are always good. This is great place for the solo dinner or date night. Good for larger parties as well. There is an upstairs for more secluded dining. Bathrooms are clean. No valet, street parking is rough, will need to use the paid lots.

Hamidreza K.

Yelp
Met up with a few friends on a Sunday night. The hostess welcomed me warmly and let me go inside to find my group. I was the last to arrive, so my friends had already ordered drinks and appetizers. Our server was quick to greet me and take my order. I started with the Kale and Quinoa salad, which was fresh and tasty. For the main course, I chose the smashed burgers. Although they only cook them well-done, I was pleasantly surprised by how juicy and flavorful they were. Our server was fantastic--she gave spot-on food recommendations, served our meals promptly, and even brought us cookies with the bill. Overall, the food, ambiance, and service were excellent.

Hattie S.

Yelp
Fun place. It's interior has character. Has the feel of an old retired warehouse or fire station. Food and drinks are pretty good, and the location is unbeatable. Prime rib Nik Niks- Yay! Very tasty! And soooo tender Hummus- Nay. Nothing to write home about and the pita was super thin. French fries- good, but not the best I've had, they desperately needed salt. The honey mustard they provided was REALLY GOOD though. Ceviche- YAY! Very tasty and notably fresh Cocktails- were pretty good! Took a minute to get them but good!

Mia M.

Yelp
I haven't been to The Misfit in a while because it's a bit far from my house, but they did not disappoint! The inside of the restaurant is just how I remember it and the lighting gives such a cool vibe. Food was tasty! All the flavors of the ceviche melted together perfectly. On top of all this, I have celiac disease and it's hard to find a celiac safe restaurant sometimes, but I was assured by our waiter that almost all the menu is gluten free and there are no shared friers! Really yummy and awesome restaurant that I definitely recommend checking out!

Andrea H.

Yelp
Walking around Santa Monica makes you hungry.. we came across them hidden gem that has Happy Hour from 12-7. We stopped in to refuel and refresh.. had their Smash Burger and homemade fries.. both were delicious. I then had to try the refreshing If it ain't broke.. it was a refreshing mezcal with pineapple and a bit of spice. So good I had 2. It is just a short walk from the 3rd Street Promenade.

Danielle M.

Yelp
The misfit used to be my favorite restaurant when I lived in LA in 2015. After much anticipation, it's still a great choice for a unique, quality meal. Drinks: a separated bar section with a beautiful library backdrop where you can grab a drink while you wait for a table. They had removed my favorite drink from the menu sometime over the last 8 years but the new menu still had appealing options. Talented, friendly bartenders though we opted for wine. Food: got the yellowtail carpaccio (delightful), vegetarian tacos (solid), bacon wrapped dates (oh my god), and Brussels sprouts (yum but straightforward). Ended with their famous salted chocolate chip cookies that they keep in the glass display by the front door - make sure to grab a couple on your way out. Ambiance: feels like an east side or nyc restaurant - you don't expect it to be in SM. High ceilings, wooden accents, shelves of antique books behind the bar... it's just so cool. There is a fun second floor table that can be rented if you want a bit more privacy and/or want to people watch but it's next to the kitchen so you'll have servers coming by. Our server was helpful and patient with us, even with our smaller order. Overall: Great option for tourists or locals looking for a delicious, reasonably priced, nice meal. Will be returning asap. I was really happy to see that the misfit is still quality.

Mary A.

Yelp
Delicious food, outstanding service and marvelous ambiance. One of my most favorite places to go in Santa Monica with my husband or friends. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, however the only issue is deciding what to get because everything is amazing.

Carl M.

Yelp
The ambience is great, Beautiful old bank site repurposed with super high ceilings, murals and lots and lots of wood. When I walked in i fell in love with the place immediately. Great bar. A lot of places that look like this usually fall short in the food department, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found that the quality of the food matched the beauty of the place. The food came out quickly and was perfect. Can't recommend this place enough and look forward to going back and sampling the rest of the menu,

Megan H.

Yelp
We stopped in after a hike and it happened to be happy hour. The spiced apple brandy cocktail was on point for the fall season beginning (October) and the ginger bourbon cocktail was refreshing as well. The lobster sliders sort of had a similar flavor profile as a chowder with the bacon- fun and tasty. The portion of fries is huge, fresh and delicious. The service and ambience were great!!

Gimena B.

Yelp
The Nik Niks are amazing! Both Prime Rib and Crispy Lobster. Highly recommended. Fun options for Happy Hour.

Jessica F.

Yelp
House chopped salad was 11/10!! Our service was also amazing. This place is so cute and quaint by professional and accommodating all at the same time. Party of 2 at 8pm on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. All the staff was so friendly and the food was so good!! I appreciated that everyone who worked there was nice because I'm sure they get BUSY especially on weekends but I was so appreciative of the fact that we were treated so nicely. Can't wait to go back!

Clara N.

Yelp
Great spot near 3rd street in Santa Monica. You can join the Yelp waitlist in advance as you walk around the boardwalk. Everyone is so kind, and I get great vibes whenever I come here with friends. Favorites are of course happy hour cocktails, but brussel sprouts, shoestring fries, and chicken wings are all close seconds! Love this as a weeknight chill spot to go for food and drinks.

Jacky M.

Yelp
The service was good, we didn't have any problems. The food was good, but a couple items could have been better. The restaurant was a tad dark, but it matched its aesthetic which was very old but elegant. I would come here again. Great location, too.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Great ambiance! They have a really nice looking bar. Our server was kind and explained the menu to us. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the food. I ordered the falafel, but it was a bit dry. The white sangria was very tasty and refreshing, though. I would return mostly for drinks.

Anonymous R.

Yelp
The Misfit is consistently really good! They've been around for 10+ years and you always know what you're gonna get. Food and drinks are yummy and not too expensive. Pretty good bar specials that softens the blow. I've been here a bunch over the years and never had a bad meal. There's always a crowd but I've never had to wait a silly amount of time. Fun vibe, good for groups or a date, but it's a little loud so maybe not a romantic intimate date night. Service is great. Friendly and fast. Grab a sea salt choco chip cookie on your way out!

Dot K.

Yelp
We arrived about 15 mins early and as suggested had a drink at the bar. Great Mezcal Cocktail!! Had a table for two by the window and enjoyed some of our favorite foods with a California twist. The bar restaurant itself is exceptionally chic and appealing. We will definitely return the next time we're visiting Santa Monica and bring our favorite couple. I know they will love it. PS if you interested in happy hour, they have wonderful cocktails 1/2 price until 7pm

Ted C.

Yelp
A go-to spot whenever I'm with a large group in Santa Monica. They've got large, comfortable booths and the room is large enough to take us on short notice, though it's always kind of crowded. The smash burger and garlic fries (a la carte) are some of my favorites. Their wings are pretty tasty, marinated in gochuchang. This isn't the kind of place you go to for a Michelin star experience, but it's very comfortable, lively, and well managed. Also, they've got free house made cookies in the lobby. Always a plus!

Gabrielle W.

Yelp
The misfit bar.... The epitome of a restaurant that you would imagine to uphold standards in the lovely Santa Monica. I was lucky enough to have diamond and another young man helping me. The recommendations for food were thoughtful and proved to be the best choice. I had the yellow tail cudo and the quinoa salad. It was a perfect balance for a light lunch. The food was bursting with flavor. The service especially for Santa Monica, which I usually feel rushed and cold was the complete opposite. Diamond gave recommendations, the conversation was fluid and welcoming. He gave the vibe that makes me want to bring back my closest friends and recommend to everyone to go/return to the misfit. With all the good food and company I can't neglect the decor. So gorgeous! Definitely a ten star experience.
