"Use a map to locate this treasure tucked away in a residential neighborhood. The pillowy flour tortillas make every burro memorable, whether stuffed with luscious red chile beef or machaca (dried meat) and eggs. Take a pack of warm tortillas to go and try not to eat them all in the car." - Jackie Tran

Food portions are huge! The burrito I got was good. They made the food fresh so there was a bit of wait time but it was well worth it. The menu google has is not up to date so you may want to call ahead of time to see what you want. The homemade tortillas are a must have. They come out warm and fresh.

The first and only other time we had Anita’s was around 2 years ago and it was great - food was delicious, aqua frescas on the ready, plenty of salsa, and not too long of a wait to get food after we ordered. However, when we went back this past weekend, it was the complete opposite. We walked in and there was maybe one other couple before us. 1. We ended up waiting an hour for five breakfast burritos.. at a place that specializes in breakfast burritos (there were 2 girls after us who came in and ordered/paid then ended up leaving because the food took too long). 2. They got our orders completely wrong except for one burrito. Not sure if this is the fault of the guy that took our order.. he did seem a little hesitant as he wrote them down. First, we ordered five and realized we were only charged for four so he never ended up writing the fifth one down. Then we told him and he wrote it down. We got our burritos and brought them home and opened them up to find they were not the ones we ordered. 3. They ran out of salsa. We did get there closer to noon so maybe they ran out but for a place that mainly does breakfast burritos, I would think you would plan accordingly to have enough for busy Saturday mornings. They also did not have aqua frescas, horchatas, or coffee. Good tortillas but terrible service. And not really much of an apology for the wait or the lack of condiments/drinks. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll be going back.

If you strip away the story, atmosphere, and positive sentiment this place receives, what's left is the food and service. The food was excellent but a 40 minute wait for two breakfast burritos? They need to find a way to scale up or they'll be out of business. I would go back for the food but won't due to the wait for food.

I have patronized Anita's my whole life. With family as a child. One of my first jobs was at Davis elementary school and I went there daily. I have been unable to visit for the last few years. So, I was so excited to get to go there again. There was almost nothing ready and available for purchase, not even tortillas. We were told that you have to order everything ahead now. The woman at the counter said they could make us one dozen if we could wait 10 minutes. So we ordered, waited outside 15 minutes, went back in, not ready. She said 10 more minutes. We waited more, went back in were told they were coming out. Another 10 minutes goes by, nothing. Ask again, told they were coming. Then she went in the back and never came back out. We waited another 10 then had to leave no tortillas or refund. She never came back. During all this waiting more people were coming in and ordering food, each was told 5 to 10 minutes on their orders. Not one person received their food during the time we were waiting. Others came in and walked right back out when they heard all the complaints from other customers. Another Tucson institution off my list. I will not return. I guess I will be giving all my business to St Mary's now.

We stop by this place on a recommendation from a friend. Very cute market in the middle of a residential neighborhood. They are quite a few people there waiting around for to go orders which to me is a great sign that the food will be good. The service we got was very friendly and a positive experience. I ordered the big breakfast burrito which I thought was just a little bit pricey, but it did taste good. I just wish they used a little bit more seasoning. My wife ordered the carne asada and although the texture and the burrito were good, the meat was very salty. I enjoyed my order more than she enjoyed hers. I think it's one of those types of restaurants where you have to know what their specialties are, and then order that. It was our first time in. I will definitely give these guys a second try because I love the small businesses like this like I said before the place was really cute, it was very clean great service. A portions were huge so if you're looking for food that you can actually break up into two meals this is the spot for you. The garden seating area outside and so unique. Go ahead support small businesses and give these guys a try.

Amazing tortillas! We ordered breakfast burritos with chorizo, egg, and potato and the birria pizza. All had great flavor and were a good portion. Friendly family owned business. Thank you Gracie!

Anita St. Market: Grace Soto and her husband founded this family owned market in Tucson, AZ 37 years ago. The market is known for their specialty, handmade flour tortillas. Sadly, Grace passed away in December from COVID-19 and a small memorial currently stands outside the building. Currently customers are not allowed to enter and must place their orders outside. While waiting, customers can take in the gorgeous and colorful mural that decorates the side of the building. The market opens early, so I opted to try a breakfast burrito made with their famous flour tortillas. My burrito was comprised of scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese, and ham. All of the ingredients tasted just fine, but being the cheesehead that I am I should have ordered extra cheese (I felt it could have used just a bit more). The real star of the show though was the handmade tortilla. It was the freshest and best tasting flour tortilla I’ve ever had. I’m having difficulty finding the words to describe the texture and flavor, but trust me, it was superb. I’m curious how their lunchtime burritos taste, but the breakfast burrito is Doughboy approved. Doughboy_Food_Reviews

So the food here is very fresh and very tasty but the wait takes FOREVER. We waiting at least 30-40 minutes for a simple order. To be fair, they do have signs posted saying food is made to order and wait times may increase and I believe they are short handed in the kitchen. The cashier is very nice and welcoming but I think she is the only one that worked up front. The mom and I think other family were up front just sitting and not doing anything. When I went up front to ask for a fork the mom looked at me and just looked away and kept talking... thanks... I'd say it's worth going ifnyou dont mind waiting a good while. Also, call your order in to save the wait.

Yelp
Took my sister and her husband on a food tour of Tucson. What is a food tour without home made tortillas so Anita was a must stop. The art work on the outside of the building is eye catching, then you sit in the outside patio and WOW. Get your camera ready, the art is amazing. Now don't let the small inside fool you. Lots if yummy options but we were here for tortillas. After a brief wait, out walks one of the ladies with a freshly made bag. We couldn't wait to try them out, no butter necessary.

Nancy F.

Yelp
New hours at Anita's 9am to 3pm. No debit or credit. Cash or Zelle only. They now offer coffee. Tortillas are $5.99 a dozen for medium. Very hot inside the store with only a ceiling fan for air. They did add a couple of tables inside and there is seating outside. Still love the tortillas.

Vicki P.

Yelp
Yum! BBB is very shareable. Very delicious. Clean, Cute place and friendly staff . Cash or Zello only outdoor seating

Yelp
My husband and I used to come here regularly for breakfast burritos pre-pandemic, after the Daily Star's food reporter awarded them as her favorite breakfast burrito in town. We stopped by recently to grab some burritos for the first time in years, and it will definitely be a more regular thing from now on. We waited 30 minutes for our two burritos to be ready, so don't come here if you're on a time crunch, but the food is just so good. The chorizo is tasty but less juicy than others I've had; I think it was the mild, though, so I want to try the spicy next time. The tortillas are just as incredible as I remember them being. They're solid and hold up well to the burrito filling, but they're also fluffy and chewy. At about $10 per burrito, they're reasonably priced for the large portion. So glad to have this place around, and looking forward to returning for tortillas and burritos.

Juan L.

Yelp
This place feels like home, the food is very delicious and very reasonably priced. THEY MAKE HAND MADE FLOUR TORTILLAS!! This is a location with a beautiful history. I went a week ago and I recommend you go as well. If you want great , Anita's is the place for you. You don't need a Michelin star to be good you just have to make great food.

Gabriel S.

Yelp
I was watching a program on TV and this market was featured. The burritos looked so good that I jumped in my truck with my pups and we headed out to find this hidden treasure. We finally found it tucked away in a old part of Tucson, but it was CLOSED! A chained fence around the building. Ugh the sadness came over me. "Mom and pop places" are being lost every day, and this one fell to maybe economical times, non-support, or the family aged out and no new interest by the family to carry it on. Whatever the situation was that made it close the doors was a good reminder that we must get out and find such places and give our support. I believe this is why Yelp was created to help local communities. So please when you drive by a "mom and pop" or a new "start up" stop and look inside. You may find a gem! The trip wasn't a total loss because the building had been painted by a "barrio" artist and this gave it charm. I stopped and took pictures to add to my personal "This is Tucson photo album"

Josephine O.

Yelp
The BEST burrito I have ever had! The red chile burrito was so fresh and authentic. The house made tortilla melts in your mouth. This is a must! P.S. I don't have a picture because my husband and I inhaled it! Haha

Orquidea M.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place but the food is horrible. The chile relleno burrito was bad, the chile tasted old and hardly had any filling. The tortillas are amazing, but not worth eating anything else there.

Louise S.

Yelp
Best Gorditas ever!!! All food is great and so is staff Things are looking good and yummy.

Erick D.

Yelp
So they are not a well oiled machine, but they do make good food when it's correct. My first experience I didn't get what I ordered and my second time they were slow as I called ahead, but the order was right. They do make corn tortillas which I wanted to buy, but didn't have any on hand.

JZ M.

Yelp
The best tortillas anywhere! Everything made from scratch. Burros & (especially) burritos are big fat & delicious. The patio, with it's creative murals is a treat & a great place to sit & eat. Unfortunately they have had a very hard time since covid and now are in need of help. If you've ever eaten there, you know how good it is and what goes into their wonderful food - can you please help? A GoFundMe has been set up for them, please help them survive - it is so worth it! Go to GoFundMe search and type in Anita Street Market. Thank you so very much. It would be such a shame to lose this delicious, local, neighborhood spot.

Thomas T.

Yelp
After seeing on yelp that it was open I drove all the way from the north west side and it is all chained up and closed so this gives an absolute zero to yelp and the same for Anita street for not telling the public they are no longer in business you both suck

Rachel S.

Yelp
Got bean and cheese burrito, chorizo potato, and chorizo ham and bacon. All three were delicious and the fresh made tortillas are the best. Definitely have to stop by and try this place.

Cece P.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!!! Had to get that out there. Arriving here, I was impressed with all the beautiful murals and decor. The patio is comfy and welcoming. There is plenty of varied seating. The store itself, although a small space, utilizes all available areas to offer a wide variety of eat-in or take out treats and goodies. The staff was friendly and helpful with ordering. While waiting on the patio for our food, the couple before us were given free appetizers and drinks as their order was taking a little longer than expected. Exceptional customer service. Our burritos were every bit as scrumptious as I had heard about. All the different meats in the bbb were flavorful and cooked to perfection. The tortillas were clearly made here and today and were delectable. The red chile was tender and yummy and definitely one of my favorites. Eating on the patio was a lovely experience. Quiet and peaceful for such a busy neighborhood. I can totally see coming here on the regular for dine in or takeout. The pricing is reasonable for the amount of food you get. Made me want to tip heavy. Hope you do too!

Angelique M.

Yelp
Simply the best mexican food in Tucson. Everything tastes like Nana cooked it! My two favorite things are the chilaquiles egg bowl and the tortillas are unmatched! The service is great and they made our food quick. I wish I took a pictures but the truth is I couldn't wait

KC R.

Yelp
Super slow. Took about 30 minutes to get some burritos. Won't be returning ever again

Tommy T.

Yelp
Certainly not what they used to be since owner pass on RIP! Tortillas are paper thin and fall apart when preparing them, priced have doubled in the last year, and service and reliability is horrible. Sad either they don't care or are not as talented as their leader but can't go back!

Em S.

Yelp
So happy I found this hidden gem! You would never just happen upon Anita Street Market as it is kind of under and along side the I-10. Luckily, I searched for a Mexican place within 5 miles of where I had been hiking. Due to covid times, you have to order over a chain link fence, which is pretty strange. It was "Taco Tuesday" so I got 3x beef @ $1.25 each!!! I really wish I could have sat on their patio, but ok. Got my order in under 5 minutes & took it back to my hotel. The smell on the 10 minute drive was driving me crazy! So yummy! Squeezed the lime on the cabbage and could hardly finish the third, they were so filling. Wish I had found Anita Street Market a couple days earlier!

Amy F.

Yelp
We were in the neighborhood, so we decided to try Anita St Market. We usually love hole-in-the-wall places. However, in this case I really wish I had read the recent reviews, rather than the overall rating. Their menu is drastically smaller than it used to be, and half the things we tried to order, they didn't have. (What kind of a Mexican take-out doesn't have corn tortillas? Or enchilada sauce?! Out of horchata too.) Lots of people standing around, waiting for their food, in the small store. We waited over half an hour, for a burro and 2 Sonoran dogs. If everything is prepped, it should take 5 minutes to assemble those items. The food we got: half the meat in the birria burrito was inedible, due to gristle. There was no bacon & no crema on the Sonoran dogs. Not horrible but not great. These are all red flags that the place cannot afford to buy supplies or hire help. Probably close to failure, which is sad. The Jamaica drink was good, and came in re-usable pouches that we will keep. See photo.

Betsy L.

Yelp
It took me waaaay too long to get my first breakfast burrito from Anita Street Market, but now that I've had a taste, you better believe I'll be back for more. I got a chorizo, egg, and potato breakfast burrito, which tends to be my go-to. The chorizo and eggs were finely chopped and mixed, which I appreciated for the consistency it gives to the eating experience overall. I also really loved the rich, buttery flavor of the tortilla, which stood up well to the hearty fillings. Despite how rich it was, the burrito wasn't greasy and didn't feel overly heavy -- I felt happily full after eating, but not slow or sleepy. Currently, it's take-out only. You can order over the phone or walk up and give your order in person if you don't mind waiting a few minutes. Only employees are allowed in the market, but you can still get all food and groceries. The food doesn't take long, and they do have a tent out front for some shade while you wait. (Note: written on a take-out only experience during COVID-19 social-distancing measures.)

Yelp
So whenever we visit Tucson we stop in and pick up some tortillas. I pre-ordered and paid for 4 doz tortillas for pick up this morning. We have a 6 and 1/2 hour drive I arrived at 8:45AM and the gate was locked. Called and called no answer Hours posted on line and confirmed they open at 8AM After waiting 30 minutes with no idea when they would open we left. I called and the person who answered the phone at 9:45 said they just opened and they were refunding my $ No I am do no explanation Terrible terrible this place used to have excellent service...their tortillas were the best. Never again this is the 3rd time we have had an issue. Not the same place so disappointing so sad.

Yelp
So when you drive around Anita market, you will see a rare jewel that you won't find elsewhere. They are one of the last community markets around. I had the tacos as well as a chorizo burrito. They both made my day. I took photos of the outside of the market because it blends latin culture, food and community to make an excellent expeirnce. I met the owner, the owners grandmother, and the other employees. It was a treat.

Ally F.

Yelp
Fantastic food and great service! I cannot wait to come back here again. I would absolutely recommend buying tortillas and getting one of their fantastic burros!

Chelsea J.

Yelp
Delicious burritos but only go if you have a lot of time to kill. 3 burritos took 30 minutes or so for them to prepare and there were about 5 other people waiting. They were out of the cheese they use in the bean and cheese burrito. I loved my chorizo breakfast burrito but wouldn't necessarily go back due to the horrible customer service and long unnecessary wait. They don't have a bathroom. It's also pricey for a burrito. We were wondering how they stay in business. Head down the street to Barista del Barrio, there's a wait but much friendlier service and better prices.

Jordan A.

Yelp
The absolute BEST tortillas in the state. The only problem is that you can never get them because they are NEVER open any more. All hours that are posted online are all incorrect. Tried to go three days this week and all days were closed when it was supposed to be open. Also before they shut down the first time their tortillas were perfectly round and thin, now you can tell whoever is making them has no clue how to make round tortillas. You can see the ripped edge on the tortilla from trying to make it round. I have so many wonderful childhood memories of getting fresh tortillas in the morning with my grandma parents and, I just wish the same effort and care that Miss Anita put into this place was still there.

Yelp
Well , out of state and back. I Tried again for tamales. The phone was Constantly busy at eight am so I drove over. No one allowed inside. There was a line. When I was able to ask , no corn tortillas. And no beef tamales, they had accepted a big order that took everything. Try again tomorrow. Ok That's two good try's. Prob one more shot to go that far for Beef Tamales. Hope they are worth it.

Yelp
This place is closed. Went there because we saw this eatery had lots of homemade food menu. When we arrived the door was open, a set of keys on the counter and no one inside. There was a phone number there so we called it and it was disconnected.

Yelp
I had read an article a year or more ago about the best breakfast burritos in Tucson, and this place was called out so I bookmarked it. Finally, got out here when they were open (had tried twice before, during posted hours to find them closed) to judge for myself... bringing along my husband who is a breakfast burrito aficionado. Located west of the outskirts of downtown, it is in a quiet little neighborhood. When we walked in there were quite a few people waiting for food (great sign) at 10-ish on a Saturday morning. They had a few things in the cold cases; fresh menudo, salsa and chorizo. I did not notice a ton of market items so I am guessing people love this place for the take out food. We ordered two of the 'big breakfast burritos' and a couple empanadas. They have a couple of old tables in the courtyard to eat at, although they were not kept up in terms of cleanliness. The empanandas were okay. The breakfast burrito absolutely did knock our socks off. Not sure if it was the divine homemade tortilla or the perfect blend of egg, chorizo, potato, bacon and cheese. Like seriously, it may have been the best breakfast burrito I have ever had and I think that had to do with the balance of items inside. If you can get past the rundown look/feel of the place and them not always being open when you would expect them to be... the breakfast burrito IS that great. I am guessing the other menu items are delicious as well.

Lorrie Y.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for months now. Went on a Saturday at about 11:15 and expected to wait based on previous reviews so didn't mind. Got a bit confused trying to find it and went a bit in circles, didn't mind. Showed up and it was kind of confusing to know what was going on and what line/group was what, didn't mind. Got up to counter and was given a list of unavailable items (bacon, sausage, machaca, etc.), didn't mind, just went with a chorizo, egg, potato burrito. Wanted a dozen tortillas to go but told I needed to wait 5-10 minutes until they were done and couldn't pay with my order, didn't mind. Probably waited 15-20 before tortillas were ready and then waited some more for my turn to buy a pack, didn't mind. Maybe took another 10-15 minutes before my burrito was ready after this, figured they needed to make the tortillas before they could make my burrito so didn't mind. Took my burrito back home and quickly discovered it was all worth it. It was so good that I kept muttering to myself "that was soooo good" over and over after I finished it. And the tortillas? Perfection! Was the experience quick and efficient? Nope. Did I mind? Nope Would I do it again? Absolutely!! Some things are worth waiting for and I have certainly "wasted" time on less rewarding experiences. Just approach this place as you would an adventure and enjoy the ride!!!

Tyler D.

Yelp
The tortillas are very good. Burritos are tasty too. Definitely will be back for a dozen fresh tortillas.

Janet D.

Yelp
When in Tucson...... you must stop here!! My plan was to grab a burrito and head to the airport, however I added stuff for my travel day since Covid has limited airport food selections. I'm so happy I did! The potato, egg, green chili and cheese burrito was ridiculous! It's like biting into a cloud! Fluffy, and so tasty, but those potatoes were soooo yummy. Perfectly soft and creamy. The green chili added just enough pop in flavor and mild heat. I added a pint of green chili, beans, and some fresh tortillas. Most of the folks were buying the tortillas, and I can see why. They are super thin, and very tasty, and come in different sizes, highly recommend. The green chili was very good, like a pot roast with green chili's added. Yum. The beans were the only thing that was a miss for me, a tad salty. It's on the top 10 places for burritos for a reason!

Judy M.

Yelp
Simple bean and cheese burrito--awesomeness! I frequently like to try simple foods for my initiation to restaurants (like cheese pizza versus loaded) to see how they do with the basics. This burrito had excellent frijoles, and the tortilla was divine. The salsa was a tad hotter than I liked it, but that didn't stop me from draining it! Pro tip: call ahead, pay ahead then get in line. We waited a bit for our food due to the popularity of this place, which I thought was a good sign. It was!

Julie S.

Yelp
It was horrible. I can't believe how crappy the food was. I was so excited to go here because of the reviews. Who wrote these reviews??? I am not exaggerating or embellishing when I say this was absolutely the worst taco and burrito I have ever had. I do not recommend this place.

Mr.McGillicuddy ..

Yelp
Is it closed permanently? Was hoping to bring back some tortillas to family in California. There's no information on the site stating it's closed.

Mitch H.

Yelp
I have heard so many good things about this place and finally decided to give it a try recently. In the last 2 weeks I have gone there 3 different times when they are supposed to be open. Has NOT been open! Called the phone # listed, NO answer or message. If they are having issues they should post a sign out front so people don't wait around and waste their time. Can't post about the food since I didn't get ANY! Very SAD indeed. If I could zero stars I would.

Jesse G.

Yelp
Eric, Don't waste your time. After reading all the reviews, I decided to take a ride and check it out for myself. I was truly disappointed with the front desk service and the lack of customer involvement. All Burritos we're 12.50, Was told they were out of tortillas when the customer after me was sold two packages. The size and quality of their Burritos were greatly exaggerated. I'm happy to check this place off my "Not worth return" list.

Brendan P.

Yelp
A nice alternative to a Nico's breakfast burrito. Had some cool artwork, and there was a tik tok foodie there

Stephanie O.

Yelp
The best tortillas in Tucson!! My friend and I popped in one early afternoon on a Saturday- we both got a egg, cheese and potato breakfast burrito with green Chile. We got extra salsa (they are small and only give you one) and an extra one was .25. I thought to myself "this better be worth it" BOY WAS IT!! The salsa, the tortilla the eggs, everything was perfection. I can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu. Please do not pass up a chance to visit this place 10/10 would recommend!

Michelle M.

Yelp
The best breakfast burrito in Tucson! That's how I found this place - I looked it up on google and this came up as #1. The tortilla is super soft and I got eggs and green Chile. The salsa was also very tasty - not too spicy. I have come back a couple times and it is located in what looks like a house but everything is very authentic and fresh. If you're looking for a fresh authentic breakfast burrito this is the place! Make sure you grab a dozen of tortillas to go as well. I'm excited to try some of the other food on their menu.

Betsy B.

Yelp
This place is off the beaten track but once you find it, you will be going back. There is often a long line and a wait to get your order in. My family especially likes the flour tortillas which are certainly popular with a lot of people as they are sometimes out of them. On this trip, they were out of the large ones but we were able to get the medium ones. They are made on site and fresh and warm. The corn chips are also good. There is some limited outside seating but haven't eaten there yet-always seem to be craving tortillas when I head there.

R W.

Yelp
The food is great, the staff is really nice but the problem is that their opening and closing times are wildly inconsistent. I went there a few weeks ago and they had closed up about an hour early. Today (Wed) I went there at 8:30 in the morning and they were closed. I talked to a lady working in the kitchen and she said that they weren't going to be open today, just making tortillas.

Travis H.

Yelp
Very very good burrito. Had a big breakfast burro and was great. The tortilla is the main star for sure. It took a while to get food was only down fall. Roughly 25 minutes a d I only had two people in front of me.

Paul Z.

Yelp
"Cash only sign" First time in after the reopening. Sky high prices turned around and walked out. :/

Jesus L.

Yelp
Horrible service ordered tortillas on line 3/21/2023 liked they asked and paid for when we showed up at 1pm to pick up there was a sign that stated closed due too remodel/ construction we are from out of town and cannot pick up next day as we are leaving called the store somebody answered took our # and said they would get back with us never happened bad costumer service now to fight to get a refund why allow website to continue to take orders for a day you know you are not going to be open?

Karen M.

Yelp
This place has changed my mind about who has the best tortillas in the universe: let there be no doubt, Anita Street does! We got there and they were out but told us they'd make some while we waited. What great service. I will be back. So so so good. Oh, we had a carne seca burro too. It was great.

Jade J.

Yelp
Food is good. Customer service is lacking, wish they gave me a fork and more than 1 small container of mild salsa. Shout out to the girl on FaceTime talking to her homies behind the counter.. I think you might want to brush up on good ethics. Anyway burrito was good.

Patrick M.

Yelp
Stopped in here driving from Texas picked up some Chile Relleno burritos for the drive back to Los Angeles along with some fresh made green salsa a stack of homemade tortillas and chips for the house. Everything was made fresh and was super delicious . If I'm back in Tucson I will definitely return..

Yelp
Truly in the 10 top burritos of life category. Arrived early on a Friday morning and only a few people lingered outside waiting for their orders. During COVID, Anita St Market had a great system where they took our orders outside so we didn't even need to step foot inside the shop. We only waited about 5-10 minutes. The burritos were outstanding - highly recommend both the BBB (big breakfast burrito) and the machaca with egg burrito. Machaca is a dried meat that I really enjoyed trying. These burritos were filled to the brim with deliciousness. Very filling. We also had to take home a dozen tortillas to make our own tacos and burritos and also both the red and green tomatillo salsas. Very spicy and very delicious.
