The 20 Best Restaurants in Reykjavík, Iceland - Eater

"Dedicated to owner Haraldur Þorleifsson’s late mother, Anna Jóna opened in mid-2023 in a beautifully designed, semicircular space full of light in one of her favorite buildings. The eclectic menu includes things like poached eggs with seaweed caviar and fluffy Japanese pancakes, alongside all-day breakfast items. The drinks program impresses with a variety of teas, Italian coffee, sparkling wines, and original cocktails." - Nicholas Gill

A recently opened modern looking restaurant that took my instant fancy! The decor is fresh ... giving the place an airy youthful, harmonious atmosphere that is complemented by a trendy menu that is bound to please.! 👍😍👍 In one week I went both for lunch and dinner with different friends and all of us liked the place ... and the food a lot! The service is very friendly but with some newbies that need a bit of polishing! 😉 The bar area also looks very inviting ...and I'm definitely going back soon ... for both food & drinks! Prices are a bit on the higher side ... but great quality... so no complaints! 👍😍👍

What a gorgeous spot. Stopped in for dinner and ended up doing our own little tapas and drink experience. The food was so fresh and beautifully served to us. The drinks were phenomenal. Friendly and attentive staff. Hope this place is around for a long time because we’d love to revisit when we come back to Iceland!

What a lovely place! It is clear that a lot of thought has been put into the design, down to the very smallest details, making a beautiful experience. Loved the food, too, brunch classics expertly prepared. Many vegetarian options, I can't wait to go back to try more menu items (and the cocktails!).

Atmospheric and pretty. However the prices are a bit steep even by the standards of downtown Reykjavik. Portion sizes are sufficient for individuals but nothing to share really. The staff were very friendly when I visited with my partner. We ordered the monkfish which was great. Also a matcha cocktail which was interesting.. Along with a creme brulee which was a tad on the sweet side. The decor is really rather fun. Will likely visit again. Not too many vegetarian options though.

My sister is a big fan of the owner Halli and brought us here. Only experienced their happy hour. Drinks and food were both excellent. Nice atmosphere and chill vibes. An interesting retro 60s vibe inside.

I've been following Halli on Twitter for quite a while and when the opportunity came to visit Anna Jóna, I lept at the chance. To see the lovely construction and decor firsthand was great. It immediately has a retro-futuristic vibe to it, like something taken from the 50s and brought forward into the 00's with care and attention. The menu was simple with choices clearly laid out, options well provided for. Opting for the Chicken Pie, I was immediately reminded of some of the best pot pies I've had in my life and the creme brulee, not listed on the menu but explained as an option, was delightful. The staff were incredible, patient in explaining the options, offering opinions where asked. I'd not hesitate to dine here again and I'd offer that Anna Jóna should be a stop for anyone.

“Life is short. Enjoy it.” True, something most of us seem to learn too late. My saying is similarly different: “If you feel sorry about something you did not do yesterday, it is already too late.” This place and it’s owner have a story. Me driving a wheelchair as well might make my opinion biased. Check for yourself, and above all: enjoy!
