Google
The service was exceptional! The staff was so friendly and attentive throughout our meal, our water cups were always full and our waitress made sure we had everything we needed. We started with the bruschetta and each had a specialty cocktail. Then we each had a pasta dish for our entrees. The sauces were so good and the pasta was delicious! We ended the meal with an espresso and a slice of tiramisu! The cake was soft and amazing. Definitely recommend checking this place out for a date night or just dinner in general!

Google
This place is such a gem! We’ve been coming here for many years and it never disappoints. The staff is amazing, kind, courteous, friendly and helpful. The food is always delicious and their wine selection is superb. Highly recommend Anna Maria Pasteria!

Google
Really good neighborhood restaurant. Everything we tried was delicious starting with Polenta as appetizer to their specialty pastas all the way to amaretto cake for dessert. Service is quick and friendly. Highly recommended if you are in this area of Chicago looking for a homy Italian restaurant.

I celebrated 🎈 my birthday🍸 at Anna's. The staff really worked well together at making me feel right at home. I couldn't believe how delicious the grilled pork chops and egg Parmesana were. Plus, the Lemon drop martini 🍸 is amazing. 👍 Everything was so delicious and my dining experience beautiful at Anna Maria Pasteria!! 😍

Google
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was fresh and delicious. I got a French martini, the Cesar salad and the penne al pomodorro Secco. Also had the calamari which was the perfect texture. Best Cesar salad I've ever had.

Google
Amazing food. In my party of five we all had something different. Everyone other their food. The service was fantastic!

Google
This was a really cute date night that we did. The atmosphere and everything else about the setting and tableware was fantastic. It was quite cramped and very loud. But a lovely evening overall! However I did feel like it was a tad bit pricey and smaller portions than I preferred. However if you want an elegant place, great lighting and cute tableware. This is your place! If you'd like a cheaper more affordable option with larger quantities I would keep looking.

Google
Food surpassed expectations, service was excellent. Loved the decor and atmosphere!

Yelp
As a 30-plus year customer of Anna Maria's all I can say is I am deeply saddened by the closing of this fabulous restaurant. It consistently served excellent cuisine, provided a warm space, hired friendly staff, and did it all at reasonable prices ~ not to mention that it had the finest tiramisu in the City! Thank you Anna, and in memory of Maria, for so many years of fine and convivial meals.

Yelp
What can I say about this authentic Italian restaurant. I wanted to bring our friends visiting us from Texas to this unique restaurant owned by friends of my sister Daisy. I celebrated my wife's birthday here, so i knew they would enjoy it. The ambiance and service were amazing. Every plate served was delicious, and Ana, the chef, brought out a bottle of wine as a gift to us. I was sorry to hear of her sister Maria passing she was a sweet, kind soul. If you're looking for great food in a cozy, family oriented environment, come to this restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Service was awesome. Super friendly and paid attention to make sure you were taken care of Ambiance - family oriented spot - clean! Food - food came out very quickly, but the taste was not the best. I did enjoy my time there though! The chaser salad was tasty for sure and there was bread service as well.

Yelp
Returned after...20 years? Maybe more. The last time I was here I still smoked cigarettes I think. We used to come here all the time, with another couple who were, are, IItalophilics. I apologize profusely if that's a porn term, I mean they love all things Italy. Well not all things, but they love the art, the culture, the wine, the food, and the wine. And the wine. But not the politics or the driving. For years this was a five star place. When the original owner passed away, apparently the sister taking over caused a slight dip in the quality of some dishes. I'm not sure I noticed this. I'm a fan of the spaghetti and meatballs and no matter how much my friends tell me this is an Italian-American dish and not Italian, that's what I ordered, and it hasn't changed at all. The guy bussing our table has been there for decades and he still takes the food away too soon. I love consistency, so to me seeing the same workers over years is a big plus. Oddly, this isn't the first restaurant I've been in that has a moped parked in it. The ambiance is cozy Italian, this is the "new" place as they used to be...now I'm not sure but I think on Broadway a couple blocks down. Doesn't matter, this place is good. I want to say it's child friendly, but the family that was sitting near us had very well behaved children. Meaning, I don't know how they would be with more typical children.

Yelp
Wow, really rude and inattentive service for no reason! Won't be back. The special items we ordered were great. The tomato salmon soup was perfect, tilapia special was delicious, but the normal menu item pastas and table bread were quite mid-tier. Randomly as he was pouring our beers the server (with an AirPod in) accused us of making fun of him? Confused we said no... because we had been silent. Then he never asked us another question and ignored us. Dropped off the check before we could order desert. Very odd, bad vibes. Munno is nearby with great service and much better food.

Kathy C.

Yelp
Love the Salmon Puttanesca here! Their puttanesca sauce is great on anything they put it on! Taste & slightly chunky texture is what makes this Puttanesca the best. Mussels in white wine sauce is also great. You are going to want to ask for another basket of bread to soak up the remaining white wine sauce. Yum!

Mackenzie V.

Yelp
Ordered burrata and got a....salad. Burrata came with 'toasted Tuscan bread' aka 4 bits of their subpar table bread. The waiter had an AirPod in the entire time. And the Parmesan cheese came in a shaker at each table like a pizza place (pictured). All around their ratings are deceitful - spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
After hearing such wonderful things about this restaurant in my neighborhood, I decided it was right for my birthday dinner. Was I right! We had a wonderful evening; service was outstanding and the food terrific. I will be back.

Narumon S.

Yelp
It was my first time experience to try this restaurant. I'm glad I tried them. Love the vibe and also their food were really good. Also, you can't go wrong with their desserts.

Denyce M.

Yelp
Not sure how I missed this place all of the years I have been hanging out in the general area, but I am going to make up for that. We met friends of ours here for dinner one one. The restaurant itself is small but so cute. The menu isn't large, but it covers all the bases. We started out with Calamari Fritti. It was nicely fried and the squid was tender. The Queen got Stracciatelle (cheese tortellini, spinach and eggs in chicken broth). I had some of it and it was tasty. The broth was light and didn't overpower the other flavors. For dinner, I got the Pollo Parmigiana. I love the fact that the menu gives you the option of a side of broccoli or pasta marinara. Instead of pasta, I got broccoli so I could get a side of polenta with bolognese sauce. Excellent choice. But I am sorry I didn't get the pasta as I understand they make it fresh....next time. The Queen got the Frutti di Mare (fresh calamari, mussels, scallops and shrimp tossed in linguine pasta with marinara). There looked like there was sufficient seafood throughout the dish. She stated it was very good and had enough to take home for lunch the next day. The Doctor got the Penne al Pomodoro Secco with chicken (tomatoes and onions in creamy tomato sauce tube pasta tossed with fresh tomatoes, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes in gorgonzola cream sauce). Chicken was $3 extra. The sauce was creamy and lovely, but I will say if you are not a fan of gorgonzola, you might want to pass. Our friends got the Linguine Pesto and another dish that was a special. Can't remember what it was called, but it was tubes shaped and stuffed with pork and some other stuff...had a bite and it was good. We didn't do dessert because I had it coconut cake back at the house. Wine list was pretty decent. Service was great too. Our server, Scott, was most attentive and on top of things. All in all, we had a great time there and will definitely be going back. I need to do some of that fresh pasta.

Daniel H.

Yelp
I am here to give my Grandma's review by proxy. She can't stop raving about this place! She said the veal parmasean was "out of this world"

Nadine S.

Yelp
Had dinner here Saturday after show at BET theater. Was walking distance after the matinee and did not have to move the car. Our dinners were delicious. I had Chicken Piccata and my date had the Salmon special. Service was quick and attentive. The deserts were tempting, the Tiramisu looked so good but took a pass due to upcoming medical, had to settle for just coffee- which was quite good . The ambiance was quite nice. It was a busy evening, however not noisy for a small restaurant.

Gabriela R.

Yelp
I had dinner with my husband, the restaurant was kind lf empty but service was great and food was delivered. Would def recommend

Yelp
This place STUNK! The seafood was literally inedible (me and my date split the mussels as an app) and the main dishes (I had eggplant parm, she had pesto spaghetti) came out unevenly heated and clearly was just microwaved frozen food. The servers were literally down our throats trying to take our plates, and the drinks could've been made in a dive bar for $4. Btw we both have stomach aches the day after. DO NOT GO!!

Lili H.

Yelp
Heres how I sum up my dining experience: Appetizer: Try It Pasta: Order It Drink: Get It (drink responsibly) Dessert: Skip It. If anyone who is looking for a romantic and yet intimate restaurant with your date, Anna Maria is the perfect place to go. My date surprised me and brought me here on our date. It was a Saturday night, which I was semi-surprised that it wasn't packed at all. The environment was very cozy, we were being served quickly as soon as we sat down. We ordered a few dishes, Basil Fettucine had a strong basil aroma, it was well prepared, light and not overwhelming. As well as their lobster ravioli, the sauce was rich and creamy, I can really taste the pasta wasn't a premake packaging from supermarket since the lobster filling was very fresh. Their wine was worth to mention, perhaps because it blends so well with what we ordered, it was quite remarkable. Since the wine was so great, which sadly it was much better than their Tiramisu(perhaps I had such a high expectation that coming from an Italian Place, Tiramisu should be very rich and full of texture, but it was too soft, and definitely need some more rum). Other than that, Anna Maria makes a perfect dining place for a date night. Customer Service: I would like to shout out to Alberto who provided an excellent service, he kept checking on us to make sure if we need anything. Parking: Plenty of Street Parking

Yelp
I really enjoyed visiting here. The inside was so charming and such a nice ambiance for a date. The food was definitely good. It didn't blow my mind but I enjoyed it. I got the tortellini with vodka sauce and I was happy with that. The calamari were excellent as well. The service was excellent and the employees were all kind

Yelp
I came here for my friends birthday and I had a pleasant time. It's a small Italian restaurant that is known for making their own pasta and having some authentic Italian food. The group ordered a variety of things and all looked good. I ordered the pasta secco which I added chicken. It was like an Alfredo with sun dried tomato which was good. My friend ordered a farfalle pasta with Italian sausage and peas which was very good. My other friend ordered lasagna bolognese and it was fine. They have an okay wine selection as well the accompany your pasta. Skip eating the community bread--it's not that great. Customer service is amazing! Our server was stellar and so was the other wait staff as well. They for sure made my experience. If I come back, I would order the farfalle pasta or try the carbonara.

Rachel W.

Yelp
NOT biker friendly, rude cook on his phone, no chill. Didn't ask where I was going. No reasoning, just assumes worst in people. So rude.

Daniel B.

Yelp
Ordered delivery that never arrived. Our delivery time was pushed back by 30 minutes. I called ten minutes after the latter time had past and they claimed they had no delivery drivers and were simply never going to deliver the food. Communication isn't hard, yet this business completely failed.

Lauren F.

Yelp
The service was exceptional! The staff was so friendly and attentive throughout our meal, our water cups were always full and our waitress made sure we had everything we needed. We started with the bruschetta and each had a specialty cocktail. Then we each had a pasta dish for our entrees. The sauces were so good and the pasta was delicious! We ended the meal with an espresso and a slice of tiramisu! The cake was soft and amazing. Definitely recommend checking this place out for a date night or just dinner in general!

Martha N.

Yelp
Great food, good service at the restaurant, very nice people. The only unfortunate issue is that they do not deliver unless you use GrubHub, which is, tragic because GrubHub is so totally unreliable.

Victor V.

Yelp
I had dinner hear last night and the service was VERY SLOW. The restaurant was not very busy and it was early. Arrived at 6PM and our drinks arrived at the table at 6:30, about twenty minutes after we ordered them. The food was OK but the services was so poor. I see I am not the only person who has a problem with the poor service. While I was leaving, the person at the front asked haw everything was. When I told him the service was "Poky" he exclaimed "What's Poky." I told him, "VERY SLOW!!" Did not receive an apology or any consideration for my comment. Too many great restaurants in Chicago to try this place again...

Tom S.

Yelp
Hello my culinary friends. I gave AnnaMaria"s a 5 star rating for outstanding pasta and other interesting Italian dishes. The service is consistently on point! The atmosphere is perfect for a date night. Very cozy! My picks: Stracciatelle Zuppa, Penne Al Pomodoro Secco and Pollo Vesuvio. Valentines Day is completely sold out. My top pick for neighborhood Italian goto in 2017! BYOB Sunday's rock. No charge! My friends and I collect vino. Love places that serve exceptional food worth of a good pairing!

Deez P.

Yelp
The only reason I'm not giving one star was because there technically was not a big issue. With that being said, we definitely will not return. We walked in and sat down. It was about 3/4 full. The waitress forgot us for about 15 minutes. Bad start. We literally had to ask another waiter to ask her to stop by our table. We ordered some soups and main pasta dishes. My soup was 3/5 stars. It was a bacon and jalapeño soup. My wife had the stracciatella soup. She said it had zero flavor. For the main course, I had the chicken Parmesan and my wife had the gluten free rigatoni with vodka sauce. She said it was super bland and there was no thickness to the sauce. My chicken parm was literally something I could have done at home. Really bland. We feel like we wasted $80. What makes it worse is that we were dying for a straight forward Italian place that was walking distance. Super disappointed!

Tom G.

Yelp
Love this cozy neighborhood spot. Friendly attentive staff and a number of mouthwatering Italian dishes. Enjoy!!

Santa C.

Yelp
They don't make any pasta here you couldn't do on your own for waaaaayyyy less money. My beef with them are the prices. $18 for spaghetti and 2 meatballs is not ok. $23 for bland chicken fettuccine Alfredo is even worse. I think their food is average, the portions are medium sized, but the check is huge. The only pasta I thought was worth the exorbitant fee was the farfalle Bella Nona. It was great. They don't use good bread either.

Audra Z.

Yelp
The restaurant inside is very cute and not at all how it looks from the outside. However, the pasta dish I had last night was almost mushy. I ordered the cheese tortellini with vodka sauce. It claims that it comes with mushrooms and peas. There were maybe 3 mushrooms in the whole dish and about 10 peas. It felt like it was store bought cheese tortellini that was cooked too long and not al dente. There was hardly any flavor as well, very, very bland. On the positive side, the waiter and busboy were super attentive and the drinks were great. I would pass on the food though.

Katie D.

Yelp
Had a very nice meal here. We started off with the burrata which was creamy & delicious. My husband had the Caesar salad which he enjoyed. For our entrees we had the pesto pasta, chicken parmigiana and lobster ravioli. All were very delicious. I really liked that the lobster ravioli wasn't too heavy or rich. The chicken parm had a lot of sauce on it which I don't mind but my husband prefers a little less sauce. The pesto pasta was good but to add a protein made it a pretty expensive dish. Dessert was a standout. We had the limoncello cake which was light & lemony. The chocolate cake was moist and had good flavor. It would be perfect with a scoop of vanilla. I thought it was a solid Italian restaurant. Service was good too. I did think it was a smidge overpriced but will most likely be back.

David P.

Yelp
Wine was good. Service was fine. Mussels were extremely fishy and chicken was rubbery. Just not a very good dining experience.

Gerardo A.

Yelp
My wife and I had the best dinner at Anna Maria Pasteria. We consider this restaurant to be the best in the Uptown-Andersonville community. First, the pasta was freshly made with a sauce that had hints of perhaps bell peppers, onion, shallots, and a tad of red pepper. The meatballs were large and light, and had chunks of garlic and onion in the Bolognese ragu. In addition, our salad was made with freshly chopped vegetables and topped with a delicious olive oil vinaigrette dressing. What we also liked was the ambience, as the restaurant was busy, but quiet, and after a tiring day of doing errands and getting ready for the workweek, this was the perfect way to spend the evening.

James H.

Yelp
Ana Maria's is a great restaurant. The food is top notch and staff very friendly. They are always happy to make substitutions to the menu too. Nice ambiance. Highly recommended.

Lucy S.

Yelp
Pre pandemic we have eaten at Anna Maria Pasteria before and really enjoyed it. Today we called in to order carry out and no one picked up the phone. We left a voicemail and sent an email and never heard back from anyone. It was disappointing, I guess we will have to try to go in person in the future since their phone system does not seem to be working.

Michael Y.

Yelp
After a somewhat prolonged closure (waste management truck ran into their building causing damage to the bar), Anna Maria is back and BETTER THAN EVER! Nice changes to the menu and the ambiance, and the food is just as great as always. I've been a loyal patron for decades and I have to say, I'm so proud of them for bouncing back from what could have been a disaster. The restaurant is the best ever!

Alan E.

Yelp
I was in the mood for pizza, and happened across Anna Maria Pasteria, so I figured I'd give it a try. When I went in, I was warmly greeted, and immediately upon being seated, was graciously attended. After looking at both the regular [which does include pizza] and the 'specials' menu, I quickly realized this was not just an ordinary neighborhood pizzeria. My taste buds instantly upgraded to trying a full Italian meal. I began with a glass of their 'chianti classico', which after the first sip, absolutely deserved the name 'classic' chianti! As a starter, I ordered their house soup, stracciatelle, a somewhat distant cousin to Italian wedding soup. Immediately, the flavors told me that this was authentic Italian cuisine, simple but exciting to the palate. For an entrée, I ordered one of the 'specials' - pollo puttanesca. Puttanesca is a favorite of mine, so I am familiar with how it should taste when prepared in authentic fashion. This puttanesca was extraordinary - again, simple ingredients but exploding with flavor! At the end, I was full, but having had such an amazing starter and entrée, I had to sample the dessert menu, and chose their tiramisu. Light, creamy, with just the right touch of tart seasoning, made this homemade tiramisu the perfect end to such an authentic Italian meal! I must add that all throughout the meal, the serving staff was discretely attentive, always available but never intrusive. Anna Maria's has now become my 'go to' place for truly authentic Italian cuisine - bravissima!!

Mark M.

Yelp
Unassuming restaurant but quality delicious Italian food. Friendly prompt service. Lobster raviloi and buratta were both excellent. Healthy portions so you won't leave hungry. MOderately priced- we had an appetizer, drinks and two entrees. We'll be back.

Carol K.

Yelp
Quaint and cozy, Anna Maria Pasteria is just what a neighborhood Italian place should be. We were headed to the Black Ensemble Theater up the street and wanted to grab a nice dinner prior to the show. The great news? If you are going to the theater, be sure to mention it to your server as you will get 15% off your food bill (on what are really already reasonable prices) We had a couple of glasses of their house red which was quite nice and looked over the menu. I wish I could remember our server's name as he was quite helpful, suggesting all of his favorites on the menu from the mushroom risotto, to the salmon, to the pork chops. I went with his recco of the risotto which was good but the winner at the table was the mussels with white wine and garlic sauce. The smell of this dish was almost enough to have me ordering my own, but thankfully my friend is a sharing type of person! If you go, make sure you same room for some of Anna Maria's tiramisu. It is one of the best I have had. Surprisingly, parking on this stretch of Clark is pretty easy, and it's only a short walk from here to the theater if that is your destination. Go before the show, or for when you want a nice meal at a neighborhood place. The welcoming nature of the staff and owners, and the comfort of well prepared Italian food, make for a lovely evening out.

Little D.

Yelp
I agree with the other reviews re processed chicken and flavorless dishes. We ordered delivery to try them for the first time a couple of weeks ago and the food was VERY overpriced for underwhelming quality. This restaurant should be embarrassed to charge these prices. Also I requested 2 additional ingredients and was charged for a very light sprinkle of them. The ingredients were skimpy period. Order delivery from PR Italian, Zia's or pick up from Angelina. This place is a waste of money.

John S.

Yelp
The best Italian food I have ever had! And it was backed-up by an incredible chocolate martini! Just go!!

Rich M.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant. The polento melted in my mouth and the Frutti de Mare was delightful. Highly recommend this place. I was disappointed they had no more gelato but the tiramisu was out of this world.

Ashley V.

Yelp
The only reason this place is getting two stars is for the service. The waitress and busboy were very attentive and warm. However, good service can't make up for bad food. It's overpriced for the quality and portion size. The pasta was bland. I had to end salt, pepper, lemon, and cheese to get a flavor. It was not good. My friend and I intended on staying for dessert, but after our appetizers and meals we decided to bounce. It's such a shame because the staff are so good.

Marie L.

Yelp
Definitely paying for the service here. Very attentive servers. Feels very high class. I ordered the salmon with olives and capers. It seemed as though it was just a can of tomatoes heated up with 10 capers and 5 whole black olives placed on top. The fish was HUGE and cooked well. Pasta was plain as well. Seemed like a meal I could make at home for $10 rather than spending the $30 here. Bread for the table was very good. $10 corkage fee for a bottle of wine. Overall wasn't bad but wasn't good enough to go back.

Colleen C.

Yelp
Such a great little location, smack dab in between all the main restaurant strips (Lakeview/Lincoln Square/Andersonville). A quiet, cozy, authentically inspired dining area with excellent homemade pasta (I had the gorgonzola/apple salad and a creamy tomato rigatoni that was on special). Our server was polite, courteous, efficient and made lovely suggestions. Our dinner was at a nice pace, not rushed even though it was pretty filled on a Saturday night at 8pm. The crowd seemed casual and relaxed and the prices were acceptable for the portions and quality. Parking is OK. :) And yes, save room for dessert (I had tiramasu).

Laura D.

Yelp
I Love this restaurant and Anna! I heard about it while in Florence in a piazza when I met a friend of the family - turns out we lived less than a mile away in Chicago, went when we got home and it has been a favorite ever since! Most recently we were able to say hello to Anna on NYE where I had the lobster ravioli and the most delicious fresh warm bread and wine and dessert. The service and food are tremendous! Highly recommend!!

Tess T.

Yelp
Wow! I was extremely impressed!! An Italian restaurant who understands AUTHENTIC, both in their food and bread!! And I'm the type who doesn't do well with (cheap) pasta!! When the food is authentic and excellent quality you will KNOW!!! Thank you Anna Maria Pasteria (and Scott)!!!

Abhishek V.

Yelp
Burrata was solid! Pizza crust was hard. Pasta was Americanized. Good Ambience and nice service.

Lauren C.

Yelp
This place is pretty good! We stopped in on a Saturday night. It was buzzing and quite noisy. My first impression was the surprising price point for pretty typical pasta dishes--even a classic like spaghetti and meatballs starts around $17. We started with bruschetta; it's a good-sized portion. The toast was a bit crunchy for my liking, but it was alright...nothing extraordinary. We each got a special from that evening: a white and green fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, tomatoes and mushrooms. My dinner companion is not fond of mushrooms, but they were very accommodating, and they allowed her to swap out the mushrooms for broccoli without issue. The entrees were quite good! Hearty portion, piping hot fish and a nice, mild sauce. The chicken was a little sparse, and it tasted like processed meat. Besides that, it was still a worthwhile dish. I think if they adjusted their price points a bit I'd be a bigger fan of this place. $22 chicken parmigiana?! $19.50 for our entrees?! Though the food is good, it's not $20 good. Other notable quality is the good service. Our waiter was attentive, and even the gentlemen doing water and bread service were on the ball and extremely polite. I'd be more inclined to come back if they'd up the quality to match the $20 price tag, or lower the prices a bit.

Rose G.

Yelp
Anna Maria is one of the last few authentic Italian restaurants on the north side. The ambience inside is cozy and warm and the staff are all knowledgeable and friendly. Our group loved every item we ordered, though I'm always partial to the Rotolo :) Great spot for date night, families, or a group.

Doug N.

Yelp
I thought the very last one-star review for this place was probably a statistical outlier or just someone with a grudge against this place, so I ignored the review and dined there last night with my partner. After our having 3 different dishes (one of which, the carbonara, was so bad we exchanged it for lasagna), I can honestly say, that one-star review was fully warranted. The overall quality of these undercooked pasta dishes was on par with canned beeforoni. I mean really! The calamari was also undercooked and so oily, it upset our stomachs for hours afterwards. Having stated all that. The servers were gracious and empathetic. I am sorry for them.

Ed Z.

Yelp
This is NOT and Italian restaurant. Their food tastes bland, like hospital food for diabetics.. Horrible service. Very expensive just to eat pasta..? I've been to much better tasting truly Italian Restaurants, in Chicago, that make "Anna Maria Pasteria" look like child's play in the kitchen. Please do yourself a favor, don't go eat there. You will regret it and your pocket book will feel it, too. Why would anyone give this toy restaurant a good review. Unless the restaurant owner is paying someone to invent reviews? They have NO traditional Italian, anything..! I really believe that Denyce M. - Michael Y and Lili H. are fakes, they simply do not exist. Maybe they were paid by the restaurant to lie, about it's bland food.
