Where to Find Korean Comfort Food Around D.C. | Eater DC

"This Korean BBQ joint makes some of the best Mak Naeng Myun in the area. The cold buckwheat noodle soup is served with chilled beef broth and spicy sauce. It’s a favorite during the summer months." - Hanna Nakano

I am deeply saddened by this as this Korean restaurant offered great food. However, this time the staff has changed the service was horrible plus we order the most expensive Galbi it was 48.99 a serving and the meat was horrible it was hard and overcooked. When we complained nothing was done. I will not go here again after close to 10 years of going there almost every week. If you are not Korean the meat and service is different!

Helen Chou

Google
We usually go there for galbi, spicy pan-fried squid, and Soju for dinner. But today, we stopped by for lunch and had fish and kimchi soup—it was amazing! Definitely the best authentic Korean restaurant in the DMV area.

Anna Ko

Google
The best Galbi in town! Loved their Mot-nan Pork rib, but now my new favorite is their Korean traditional beef-Galbi ! (Marinated Galbi, not LA Galbi) No fat in the beef Galbi! & I love it! So tender, soft, and tasty! The new management really improved the taste~

Google
The service was excellent, staff was friendly and attentive. Food was "okay." For AYCE, it isn't a bad option but the Korean side dishes (banchans) are going to disappoint. But as of September 2024, best Korean BBQ option in Annandale, IMO. The soybean paste stew (doenjang-jjigae) didn't have any flavor, korean steamed egg (gyeran jjim) was nearly inedible (too salty), and corn cheese had a very odd texture. The kimchi and other few sides aren't anything to write home about.

Google
Really good Korean restaurant. Tastes authentic and also has really good service. Kalbi & the cold noodle soup was so gooddd.

Google
Have been here multiple times with always good quality Korean food and good meats. The atmosphere is nice and not too loud so one can converse with friends. Staff is friendly as can be for usual Korean restaurants. Service and food comes out quick if you are in a hurry but you never feel rushed if you want to hang out with friends.

Google
One of the best Authentic Korean Food in DMV area! I have been coming here for years. Stir fried spicy Squid, gamjatang, pollack spicy soup and their various banchans are my all the time favorites.

Shalom Jireh

Google
No BBQ in the table place. All the meats already cooked in the kitchen and you just warm them up on the table only. Bummer! Ori roast was $64 per order.

Yelp
This is a Korean-style Cheers - a neighborhood restaurant where everyone knows your name! At least that was the case for the older Korean uncles and aunties that were hanging out here (a good sign!). Everyone seemed to know each other, even though they were opposite sides of the room. They roamed around the restaurant and talked to each other like they were at a bar. Many patrons also go to the bakery next door for dessert after eating. It's so cute! I like that this place closes later in the evening. I recently dined here with friends on a cold winter day! We wanted a hot meal to warm us up! I ordered Galbi tang (beef short rib soup - one of my favorite dishes). They gave huge portions of meat and green onion. The huge hunks of meat made it on the heavier side and sinewy parts were quite chewy, but it was all very tasty! My friend ordered BBQ version of galbi (short ribs) - and the dish came with a lot of side veggies you can wrap it in! Nice that they don't skimp on veggies. They also had a lot of variety of banchan side dishes, and we could order extras of whatever we liked. I also ordered hot boricha - barley tea, which arrived in these adorable steel mugs to keep it hot! (Yechon down the street started charging for teas - so I'm glad this place didnt go that route). The waitress was attentive and came back often to make sure we had everything we needed. I saw a sign that they charge a few cents for to-go containers, so keep that in mind if you have leftovers! but they didnt seem to add that to our order!

Yelp
We had a friend come into town looking for good Korean food. What better place to take her than our very own K-town! This place is great small shop where lots of locals love to eat at. We tried a mix of some of our favorites dishes and every single thing was amazing! The noodles were chewy and refreshing, the Galbi was tender with a nice marinade and the pancake was packed full of veggies and seafood. My only criticism would be on the tofu soup - while flavorful, it was a bit oily for our liking. Service was nice as well. It was a bunch of Korean aunties making sure to take good care of us. Definitely one of the many great Korean spots in Annandale! Apps: Seafood Pancake Entrees: LA Galbi and Spicy Tofu Soup with Beef Sides: Naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles)

Yelp
I love annangol for their meat and they have decent lunch special if you like fish and soup. I usually get their spicy pork or LA galbi. This time we got jumuluk and it was delicious. The galbi dolsot bibimbap was good too but I recommend letting the rice at the bottom crisp up more before mixing iykyk.

Yelp
This place felt pretty authentic. It was mostly filled with Koreans and their families. This is very family style and shareable. The Korean grandma took care of us and checking in. We got the galbi ju mul lui which is really juicy but it was tiny portion for the price and not ayce. I recommend they make a website and update with their menus.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Annandale. They have a good selection of soups and stews as well as bbq options that are really tasty. The quality they provide with service and food quality is one of the best in my opinion. I always go back here!

Yelp
THE place to go to if you're looking for naengmyeon and kogi. Their mak naengmyeon doesn't disappoint and I can easily say that their jumulluk is the best I've ever had - the seasoning is everything. A great casual place to go with friends for a hearty meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Updated review for Annangol - This time around, the jokbal was a little too chewy. I think the cartilage to meat ratio was a little off, which was disappointing. But still great service and the banchan selection was constant.

Yelp
The food was a 5/5, but I'm lowering it to a 4/5 because their menu pricing don't reflect how much they actually charge (and they didn't tell us about it). But if you're OK with that, definitely stop by Annangol because the food here is delicious. My friend and I ate dinner here over a year and half ago and we weren't a fam of their mul naengmyeon here. But let me tell you that everything else was super tasty this past Sunday lunch. The banchan were pretty decent. I really enjoyed the beansprouts and thought they were incredibly well-seasoned. Probably the best I've had in the area. Love their fishcakes here. Their kimchi is so incredibly sour and not for me, but other people around me enjoyed it. SO MORI GOOKBAP - 18.99 The menu said 16.99, but our receipt said 18.99, FYI. The ox bone soup here is so creamy and flavorful. Like, so, so creamy. And there's so many pieces of ox head meat in here that I was blown away by the generosity. The meat was also so tender. They definitely give you a lot of scallions in the soup, too, you will find a few in every sip of soup. I'd recommend this if you like seolleongtang. I don't really know the difference between that and what I got, but it reminded me of seolleongtang! My friends who got the Jeyuk Deopbap thought it was the best they've had in the area. I had a piece of the jeyuk and it was so flavorful, tender, and juicy. The spicy marinate was spot-on. A couple of my friends got the Mak Naengmyeon (which I debated getting but decided not to because I didn't like the Mul Naengmyeon 1.5 years ago) and I tried the broth and it was so sweet and flavorful. I definitely regret not getting that. A few other friends got the BBQ and thought paying 32.00 for it was worth it. They seemed to have gotten a variety of different meats to try. Overall, I'm open to making Annangol more of a regular food spot with a bigger group of friends. Again, it would be great if they could update their menu pricing to reflect what they charge.

Yelp
Great quality, food and service. Very authentic Korean food. I highly recommend this Korean restaurant

Yelp
Wow what a find. Honestly this restaurant deserves way more than 3.8 stars. No frills but tasty food. The restaurant is a little small. The food comes out very quickly. We were there on a Sunday during lunch a little before the church rush. Service is good. This restaurant does something with Korean cold noodles that's unique called 'Mak' neng myun which adds some spice to traditionally y spicy cold noodles. This cold noodle is traditionally eaten during summer to cool you down and that's exactly what it did. Highly recommend!

Yelp
IF YOU'RE NOT KOREAN, FORGET ABOUT GOING TO THIS PLACE First of, I've read the bad reviews about this place's bad service and the racism that happened to other people that went there. But we wanted to see for ourselves. We came in and saw the red flags immediately. We had to stand in the front door for few minutes before we got sat meanwhile the other koreans who came in after us got sat immediately with menus handed out with water and utensils. While me and my bf had to go to the front to look at the menu and order at the register after waiting for someone to come take our orders for good 15 mins, note we also had to ask for some water and utensils. Food wise, it's okay but I wouldn't come back again after the service we had.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Feel so welcome even with language barrier the cool noodle was authentic and the beef short ribs was cooked to perfection!

Yelp
This is Hidden spot for mostly kOrean people. We all know which one is really good and whats not. This is the right one if you want to taste "real K bbq" Try to eat "Taereung- Kalbi" Rib. If you want K bbq with hot flavor, get "Mot-Nani-Kalbi"

Yelp
I tried this restaurant last weekend, and it wasn't terrible but it wasn't the best. We didn't get the bbq options, but we did order a boatload of other things: seafood pancake, cold noodles, bulgogi and pigs feet. Everything was such a huge portion in size, def had to pack most of the food to go! I was pretty upset due to the pork - I'm pretty sure I had some kind of reaction to it because I rarely eat it, only on certain occasions - it was so good tho! But I loved their cold noodles. I'm always on the hunt for some gold old classic cold noodles. The service was average, the waitresses were very sweet and checked on us frequently to make sure we were doing okay. The environment was more cozy and home like. Not all rowdy, and obnoxiously loud. Def check this place out !

Yelp
Repeat visitor to this restaurant. Most recently came here on a Sunday night for dinner and ordered several items from their BBQ menu. Ordered the - Yangnyum Wang Galbi (Beef Rib), Jokbal (Pig Feet) & Seng Sam Gyup Sal (Pork). All three were great. The restaurant cooks the meat in their kitchen, and brings it out to keep warm on the grills on the tables. I'll be back here in the future for sure!

Ruby L.

Yelp
I had been here a couple of times for dinner, always delicious. I was surprised they open until 2 am. We came here at 12am. Very good service, price is reasonable, food is so incredibly good. This will be a night owl's favorite place.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem that serves scrumptious Korean food! The interior is quite cute and it's hustling and bustling with Korean patrons! Naengmyeon (5/5): On a hot summer day, there's nothing as refreshing as a icy bowl of Naengmyeon or cold buckwheat noodles and Annangol's hits the spot. Add some vinegar and mustard in the mix and it's savory, tangy, sour, sweet - *chef's kiss*. Spicy Grilled Pork(5/5): Not to be trumped is the grilled pork which are quite delicious as well- they're cooked in the kitchen and then placed on the table grill (not sure if it's because of COVID but tbh I prefer it this way so that the meat fumes do not saturate my clothes). They're the perfect amount of grilled and go wonderfully with the provided veggies for a refreshing wrap.

Yelp
The Korean barbecue here is really good. We had 2 types of beef and pork belly. They pre-cook the meat before you finish cooking it at the grill on your table. The beef was really and tender and had a great flavor and the pork belly was great as well. For a beverage I had makgeolli which went well with the food and you pour it into a cool metal bowl. I haven't had Korean barbecue here before but I'll definitely be going back.

Yelp
this was really good food. We had take out so it was not beautiful but I saw the meals in the restaurant and they looked great as well. There are a lot of ethnic restaurants in the area. We will definitely return to this one. That should be the best endorcement.

Yelp
If a team of beings from outer space scores in a soccer match against earthlings, that's an Aliengol. If they're Christians, it's an Amengol. If the first fictional dude on earth scored it, it's an Adamgol. If you wanna date that dude - or any dude - then you have Amangol. If you just want to fill everyone's inbox with crap, you have Aspamgol. And if you want some Lox on a bagel, then you have a Salmongol. But what kind of cream cheese do you want. Now there's a question. Don't come here for cream cheese, though. Come here for incredible Korean soups and homestyle Korean dishes. Of what I've tried here, my favourite is the really delicious Yuk Gae Jang. Not quite as good as Buffalo or NYC but right up there, definitely very excellent, decently priced and easily a 5 star. The person that recommended it decided to no longer be my friend, with no explanation. But I'm still grateful for the recommendation. Service was kinda funny, I think they didn't know what to make of me. And it's really hard to eat this as a to-go meal. Always try to sit in and eat it. The decor is super cute anyway, so it's worth it.

Yelp
Love this place and have recommended it to a lot of friends. HOWEVER last Saturday I went there with my family and after enjoying our BBQ dinner, my wife and I saw the helper server / water filler as she cleared the table after the table next to us paid their bill and left. She gathered up all the leftover lettuce and took it to the back separate from the dirty dishes pile. One can only assume that the lettuce will be brought out to the next table. Yuck! What a bad decision by the management or owner. Since I won't be going back, and since I go there about six times a year, and at $180 per visit, they're losing out on $900 from just my small family. Additionally the loss of some of my friends (who also are disgusted at the thought of being served leftover lettuce directly from another customer's table), they're looking at a direct annual conservative loss of $7,000+ just because they wanted to save the cost OR labor to wash some lettuce. Come on now. Such silly behavior and a loss to me since I can't go there anymore.

Yelp
This place was disappointing and I do not recommend people to go here. Why four stars for this place? I have no idea. We ordered hea jang gook, usually when the menu is on top of the list, this is what they are known for. What I thought it would be the best choice was the worst. It taste like nothing but hot spicy water with bunch of stuff in it. Def try hang kang and don't come here.

Yelp
Annangol is Open until 2 AM on WEEKENDS!!!! Weekdays are until 12!! My favorite kbbq go to place in Annandale! Everything tastes sooo good and the bbq is very flavorful and tasty! Can't go wrong with this place!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm obsessed with the ox blood hangover stew here, it's so good!!! I've also had their nengmyun which is also really good. The waiters don't speak much English but they've always been very nice and have tried to explain the menu to us to make sure we knew what we were ordering. I plan on coming back to try their BBQ since it seems to be one of their specialities.

Yelp
This restaurant is located near Giant in Annandale. When I first ate here, I had the kalgooksu which means knife cut noodles. I came on a cold night and the broth of the noodle warmed my shivering body. I enjoyed every bit of it to the last drop. I also went back for meat. They serve it in a less messier way. The meat is cooked and placed on a metal mesh over the grill so it won't burn but stay hot. The service is great and the waitresses are nice. The price is right and the taste is good. Not as crowded as other restaurants. I prefer here over Yechon. All Korean restaurants will give you side dishes and it's pretty much unlimited refill. Treat yourself to Korean food if you are craving some. No waiting in line or rude workers. Yummy food here.

Yelp
HOLY COW (get it?)! My stomach was so happy when it finally got to "meat" this place. Even though Annangol isn't an eye catching restaurant, the food, especially the Korean BBQ, speaks for itself. Out of all the Korean BBQ restaurants in Annandale, Annangol offers the most authentic and best Korean BBQ. Similar to other Korean restaurants, they provide you a plethora of Korean banchan, which my family and I usually go through two platters of those. In addition, we always ask for extra potato salad and cucumber kimchi. But wait...there's more! They also give you a bowl of hot tofu jigae and steamed fluffy eggs! They're like the cherry on top for the entire dinner service. Last but not least is the juicy, tender, delicious meat! My family and I always order the galbi jumuluk (my favorite) and spicy dwaeji gogi. The galbi jumuluk is the thick cut for the short ribs, and according to my boyfriend, he likes to describe them as "delicious cow nuggets." Something about their sauce is so heavenly, light, and flavorful. What's different about this place compared to other Korean BBQ restaurants in Annandale is that the meat is already cooked. All they do is keep the meat warm on top of a bed of sweet white sliced onions over the grill. Keep in mind, this restaurant is small and gets packed very fast during the weekends, but parking isn't hard to find here. Also, the employees are friendly and fast-paced. Once you are done eating, it only gets better because you will get the typical Korean BBQ burps, which taste so good but smell so foul. If you like Honey Pig or Kogiya, then you will love this place even more!

Yelp
Being a part of Annandale for so long, I have to say this is on my top 3 KBBQ places. The taste is authentic and not too heavy, the service is formal, and my stomach is never disappointed when I'm here. Annangol doesn't have the loud music and younger appeal, but the food definitely speaks for itself. I always, ALWAYS, have to order their delicious juicy galbi. Something about how they marinate their meat is unique and is addicting with every bite. And with the galbi, you get their tofu chigae and my favorite: the egg. Trust me when I say, take a piece of galbi, rice, onion and wrap it with lettuce! I also love their bibim nengmyun and their fried mackerel! I usually come here every school break with my family and we are always satisfied! Their side dishes are great to munch on before the main meal, especially with soju. I've never been here without my family, but have a fellow Korean speaker handy because I think it'll be easier to understand the menu and order food.

Yelp
One of my go to place for some korean bbq! My odd friends wanted to get some chicken feet, and this place apparently makes decent chicken feet! Among 3 of us we ordered: yes, the chicken feet! It's cooked in a very spicy sauce, mildly sweet, and a bit garlic-y. Delicious sauce I must say! However, I couldn't stand the texture of the... Feet. And they were way larger than expected, we thought they were turkey feet! Joo mool luk-this is marinated boneless ribeye meat. Beef. So tender and juicy. My favorite! Mot nan e dweh ji galbi-spicy marinated pork. Not as spicy as you think. If I liked pork, this is what I'd order all the time. And finished the meal with mak naeng myun-cold buckwheat noodle with spicy sauce and cold beef broth. This is the best place for this cold noodle. Perfect for hot summer days! If you feel adventurous and enjoy spicy food, definitely try the chicken feet!

Yelp
Bibimbap serving sizes were great and their bowls kept it warm the entire time! Prices are very reasonable for KBBQ too :)

Yelp
It's cold. Why don't they turn up the heat?? I'm wearing my fleece jacket while I'm eating. I see others wearing puffer jackets. Got seated and waited forever. Korean snack dishes came at the same time as the meal instead of before. I ordered fish stew with pollack (get to choose codfish, monkfish or pollack). Got a bowl of fish GUTs, fish intestines they look like brain and is soft like brain. I almost threw up. Couldn't eat it, was told it was indeed fish intestines, the size of my fist. The whole soup was just fish GUTs!! I'm still nauseous and feel sick to my stomach and I only ate a teeny piece of it to see what it tastes like. This restaurant is misleading. Nowhere on the menu does it say fish GUTs soup. It said fish soup with your choice of codfish monkfish or pollack. How about you clarify it's your choice of fish GUTs, intestines from pollack, monkfish or codfish? I wasted $15 on this, never will come here again. Before you order anything fish, ask if it's fish meat or fish GUTS. Horrible service too. Waiters don't speak English, when I asked if this is fish guts, it took her five minutes to look it up on her iPhone what I meant. The waitress came to our table to give us our tea, and our meal, twice total. Never came back to check on us. No water refill or tea refill, no napkins on table so had to get up to ask for them, waitress also looked like she didn't want to be there. It's a Tuesday evening, with few customers, is it that horrible to work there?
google avatar

Yelp
The restaurant itself is a little hole in the wall for us millennial koreans! It's stereotypically a grown up place where all the ahjushis and ahjummas go.... but hands down the best and pork bbq! My favorite meal is to combine cold noodles with bbq meat and this place meets all expectations. The meat may be a bit pricey but when eaten with the noodles, I usually split one serving size of the spicy pork bbq and 2 orders of cold noodles between me and another person... coming out to be somewhere around $20 including the tip! Although the demographic is mainly older koreans, the menu is english friendly and the ladies who serve there are very friendly and are willing to help you navigate through the menu :)

Yelp
HIGHLY Recommend: Galbi-Jumulruk. I think of it as Galbi without the bones. Charcoal BBQ, bursting with marinated flavor. Do not recommend: Spicy Sam Gyup Sal-Pork Belly The pork belly wasn't spicy at all and between 3 of us, we weren't too excited about grabbing a piece. Kimchi Jjigae The soup fell flat for me. The only thing I did like about the soup was that there were huge chunks of tofu which I love. Atmosphere: COLD. LIKE FREEZING. The front door doesn't close all the way. There was a space heater next to me so I turned it on but without that space heater I would have been MISERABLE. Booths are really uncomfortable seating. Service was slow but they were nice.

Chelsey M.

Yelp
I would give 0 stars if I could, i'm guessing they're racist to hispanics because they would not come to check up on us but to everyone else.. refilled their waters and we had to ask to refill and regardless they'd take so long to come. We had left over food and they were charging us $1 for a little to go box?????? I've never heard of such thing. On top of everything, we found 2 long strands of hair on our lettuce! We didn't say nothing because we doubted they would care. When we were signing the receipt, they kept looking over and obviously I was going to tip cash so when BOTH women saw no tip on receipt, they giggled and nodded because they saw nothing (again I wanted to tip in cash). As soon as we got up they obviously looked around the table to check if i left tip. I was still picking up stuff my toddler had left on the table, they glared at me. Tip is awarded for their service, it's not a requirement. Very very bad service. Never coming here again. I'm disappointed because their food was actually okay.

Yelp
I came here on a Friday afternoon around 2:30PM, I think all the restaurant servers were having their lunch but it was very awkward walking it. It is smaller than expected inside. I grabbed a seat and was given a menu and a drink and it took a while before my order was taken. I didn't come here for the BBQ, I came here to specifically try the Mak-Mul-Naengmyeon. It did take quite a while for them to make it as it looked as if everyone was outside eating lunch. Luckily I was entertained by my car and didn't have any plans so time wasn't an issue. Overall, the service was a bit laggy, but it is definitely forgiven because the cold noodle soup dish I ordered was absolutely delicious! The soup had the right texture of slush and sprinkled sesame seeds on top. I added the white vinegar and hot mustard in there and it hit the spot. It came with 3 banchan dishes. It was so flavorful and tasty! Haven't tried the BBQ, but their Mul Naengmyeon was hands down awesome and I would definitely return here just to get the soup dish. The price was also fair and cheaper than another place I tried in Annadale.

Yelp
Nice cozy place with friendly servers. Came here on a Monday night so it wasn't busy at all. Got an assortment of things to try. I was really craving cold noodles so I ordered the Mak Naengmyun to try. The broth was pretty flavorful and refreshing and the noods were nice and chewy. The galbi joomuluk was suuuuupper yummy. It was perfectly seasoned and the meat was tender and juicy. I'm not normally a meat eater but this shit was pretty damn good imo. Gamjatang was good too but I think I prefer To Soc Chon's a bit more. Pretty good experience here. They weren't frugal with the sides. Prices are slightly more expensive then some of the AYCE places but quality is better.

Yelp
Wife and I decided to try Korean bbq after locked down at home for months. It was one of best Korean bbq that I had in a few years. Highly recommend naeng myun.

Yelp
Everything was good, especially, the cold noodles which hit our spot on the hot day. The service was wonderful.

Yelp
I came here with my friend on our lunch break. Place is kinda small but comfortable. You sit slightly close to the next table so it's a little awkward. Food.. I like their complimentary sunny side up egg as a start and the sides weren't too bad. I got beef bibimbap and my friend got soondooboo. I was very disappointed with my food because it looked like I got more "onions" than beef. I probably had about 5-7 small pieces of beef in there. Also, they gave us attitude the first time we asked for side refills, lol. I won't go back.

Yelp
I forgot to update this review a while ago. Last time we came here was probably last year. Though I don't recall specific dishes, I do remember we enjoyed our meal and was pleasantly surprised considering our first experience. Perhaps management may have changed or something but we enjoyed our meal. The rest of the folks in our group all seemed to enjoy it too. Hope to have another opportunity to visit so I can write a more meaningful review.

Yelp
Took my family here for my mothers birthday and I have to say that I will never come back here. Terrible service - my server never stopped by and checked if we needed more water or side dishes. And when we did ask for more she gave us a look of disgust. Customer service here legitimately sucks and thats a shame because the food is actually solid, but its certainly not good enough for the staff to disrespect their customers. Who do they think they are, Gordan Ramsay?

Yelp
I come here for nangmyeon, very goor. Best mandu I've had in town. The meats and veggies taste very fresh, great flavor and seasoning. Service has improved since the first time I have dined. Recognize the cultural differences.

Yelp
I have to say one of the WORST restaurant experiences I've had or witnessed. I'm Korean and enjoy many of the Korean spots in Annandale, which is a blessing because there are so many great options to choose from. This is...NOT one of them. After being seated, we waited 10 minutes for water and menus. We ordered 3 orders of BBQ which is what they are known for. I spoke Korean to the waitress, who only wanted to take orders in Korean. Then saw her ROLLING her eyes and ignoring other non-korean patrons in the restaurant who couldn't speak the language and were trying politely to get her attention. It was rude and unprofessional. I asked myself how I would feel if I was not Korean in this particular restaurant? The answer- Thank goodness I speak Korean and am Korean or tbh, I would have felt really unwelcome here. The food was not good. Kind of expensive. Not super fresh, seems like the meat had been sitting in marinade for a while. Servers never came by to refill water glasses or help with the bbq. Not to check on refilling banchan. But managed to come with the check before we had finished eating. The bad experience just kind of compounded. Honestly, after seeing how poorly some customers were being treated by the staff, the food could be one-of-a-kind and you would not see me or any of my Korean compadres here again.

Yelp
I really enjoy the food here...It is as authentic as you can get outside of Korea. It reminds me of the small neighborhood restaurants in Korea

Yelp
Annangol is a solid old school Korean establishment that has been in the Annandale area forever. The clientele caters towards the Korean crowd and all the servers are also much more comfortable in Korean rather than English so keep that in mind if you come without anyone who speaks Korean. They have a variety of dishes ranging from barbecue to soups to cold noodles (a specialty) and everything in between. The several times I have gone there I have opted for one of the jeong-gol (big family style soups) with a couple orders of bbq on the side. The bbq is ordered by the portion and the prices are not astronomical but not cheap either. If you wanted to get full just off of bbq you're probably better off going to an AYCE place. The cold noodles is their specialty and my favorite is actually the one with less broth and spicy seasoning (literally called mixed noodles or bi-bim-myun). It may be counter-intuitive to have noodles cold but give it a try it on a hot summer day! Service is on-demand as in you have to demand it to get it. Refill's on water, banchan are only after you are able to get their attention. Solid place I encourage everyone to try at least once if you want to mix up your Annandale routine.

Yelp
Annandale is full of hidden korean restaurants. This one is located off a service road (tom davis) near the annandale giant. The parking lot is small put you could always park across the street and walk over. They have the best bibimbap. During lunch time they also give you a fried egg and soup as an appetizer. I ordered tofu soup here once which wasnt bad but i would suggest tofu lighthouse if thats what youre craving.

Yelp
Annangol has gone thru a lot of iterations over the years. Many years ago, it was BBQ with most of the meats grilled on a big grill in the back of the dining room and brought to the table on a variety of surfaces: ire netting over a gas flame, glass griddles, etc. Each meat was served in a specific way to show itself off. It was superb. Then management changed and it was more of an ordinary BBQ, good but nothing special. I stopped going until I heard it was now a place for traditional Korean cooked foods. When I tried it, they absolutely refused to serve me what I wanted saying thats only for Korean people. I tried to explain to them that I was here specifically because they served Korean food for Koreans. I was actually told white people don't like it. Needless to say, I left. I heard thru a friend of my partner that they were back to BBQ so I hiked down to Annandale to give it a try. Am I glad I did. I ordered their beef lunch special and Mul Naeng Myun Spicy. I was overwhelmed by the amount of food. The beef was cubes of some tender cut with good flavor. The plate of greens they served had something like dandelion, escaroles and perilla leaf in addition to leaf lettuce, a hot pepper, and some carrots. They put a 5 slotted try down with seaweed in samjong sauce, pickled veggie, pickled daikon radish, kimchee, garlic and jalapenos surrounding their bean paste dip. A bowl of soup, rice, and a freid egg completed the special. Then the cold noodles arrived and they were superb. Tangy, icy and the wasabi-mustard sauce was spicy and bracing and made the soup sing even as it cleared my nostrils. The ajummas helping were sweet as can be and the whole experience was a delight. I left stuffed! Today, after my disaster at Gogi Yogi in Shaw, I came down to Annandale and had the pork special. For $13 I am fat and happy. Well I am fatter and happy. I can't wait to go with a larger group so we can order galbi and pork jowl.

Yelp
More!!! I want more!!! Quaint and cozy. Nice servers. First was a fried egg over easy. Was this brunch? I guess if you're there right when it opens... ;) but it was good... Then the sides. So tasty! Then the galbi dolsot bibmbop. The rice with meat in a stone bowl. Jumping seaweed! Add as much sauce as you like! Good crispy bottom. Good meat. Love the flavor. Then the joomollok bbq. Meat cubes grilled. Heaven. Please can I have some more??? Perfect tenderness. Great flavor. Juicy... Seaweed soup. Tasty too. Steamed egg. Very nice. I really like this place. And will be back :)

Yelp
Annangol is becoming one of our favorite Korean restaurants in the Annandale area to chow down! This place is always packed with the locals who come in to feast on their grilled meats. Don't come here looking for a 'KBBQ' experience, as they cook the meats you order for you in the back, and place it on the stone plate at your table to keep it warm. This is great, as your clothes will not be permeated as much with the 'grilled meat odors!' We stick with the Galbi Jumulruhk (tender & juicy chunks of marinated beef), the samgyupsahl (thinly-sliced pork belly), and the galbi dolsot bibimbop (a nice combination of rice, fresh veggies, plentiful galbi pieces, and a great gochujang sauce that's not too sweet and not too spicy). I love how the galbi jumulruhk comes with sliced 'pickled' onions that's also grilled up and great to eat together. You get a platter of fresh lettuce, steamed cabbage, and carrots, to make little ssams. A circular steel platter of banchans (yummy ohdeng (fishcake)), in which you can easily request for free refills, is included. Our drinks were always topped, and we were checked up to make sure everything was great - our server was awesome, and the ahjummas here are also sweet and friendly! They are opened until midnight daily, so check them out - it's a great option in the Annandale area :D +friendly and sweet staff :D +meats are grilled/cooked for you in the back before being served +Galbi Jumulruk is tender & juicy! +dol solt galbi bibimbop is tasty :D +eat up on them ohdengs (fishcake) from the banchan platter (free refills on all!) +situated next to Napoleon Bakery +plenty of parking spaces
