First of all, this place is quaint and charming, despite its size. You walk in and feel like you've walked into a little cafe in a small town where locals gather to sip coffee and have lively conversations over breakfast or lunch. Joining the wait list before arrival is convenient. When we were in on Feb. 4, we were seated five minutes after arrival. The hostess was friendly and we were looking forward to a fabulous family breakfast. From that point forward, everything was in slow motion, from ordering to the delivery of our food, and waiting for the bill.
My husband and I shared biscuits and gravy, and I wouldn't order it again. It was ok, but the biscuit had been buttered and grilled, so it wasn't soft like it should be, and it was off putting. The gravy was decent after a hefty dash of salt and pepper. The fruit bowl was good, with the exception of the pineapple, which was cut WAY too close to the core and couldn't be eaten. One of my daughters ordered a tater tot casserole, and it was good for a few bites, but lost its appeal quickly because there were too many toppings, not enough tater tots, and it was just heavy. I'm sure some people would love it, so don't let me talk you out of trying it.
The biggest disappointment was the Twilight French Toast. We've ordered this in the past. In one of my pictures, you can see that it's a wedge slice from a French toast casserole. It was delicious when prepared that way, with the sauce seeping into the crevices and making the already moist dish a little more moist. Now they bake it into a loaf and slice it, which you can see in my other picture. There were 5-6 slices on the plate swimming in sauce, but the bread was so dense that the sauce could not penetrate it, and the end result was not tasty. I'm not sure if the bread was stale, or just not good, but the entire dish, which is quite expensive by the way, was a huge disappointment. My daughter drained the sauce into a little bowl so the bread wouldn't get pasty and used it to dip.
We told the waitress, and she said they changed it a while back because when they'd reheat it, it wouldn't reheat evenly and sometimes the inside was still cool. (I'd prefer that, thank you.) She asked if we'd like it remade. We had already been there an inordinate amount of time and had somewhere to be and told her we couldn't wait. She told us she could take it off the bill, and we said that would be great because this was my daughter's breakfast, and is also her lunch for work that day because it took so long she doesn't have time to stop at home before work. Therefore, both her breakfast and lunch that day were going to be bad. Because my daughter had to take this for lunch, the waitress didn't take it off the bill and said nothing to us. Mind you--my daughter ordered it knowing there would be leftovers for lunch, and since it was just not good but edible, it was eat this for lunch or nothing. Don't tell someone you're going to take something off the bill and not do it. My daughter couldn't even bring herself to eat it at lunch so most of it was thrown away.
During all of this, none of the dirty dishes were removed from the table. There was no apology for the lackluster food. We had to wait a long time to order and for the food to come to the table and for the bill to be brought out. We will not be back, but I hope that your experience is much better than ours was.
