Los Amigos Taqueria to Open in Somerville | Eater Boston

"I also observed that Anna’s Taqueria, on Elm Street, is one of several restaurants in Davis Square serving a menu of Mexican food." - Dana Hatic

Google
I am from Mexico, born and raised. This place has flavorful burritos, with a great variety of protein and toppings. My favorite protein options are the pork in green chili sauce, birria and chicken. The portions are generous; you won't leave hungry! The staff members are excellent, fast, courteous and skilled.

Giovanni B.

Google
It's good food, fast. Tasty and healthy and assembled right in front of you... The folks there are friendly and I always get what I want how I want it.

elizabeth J.

Google
I was a fan of the food before, BUT MY GOD THE NEW CHIMMICHURI SAUCE! It is so amazing and brings normally good food to an elite level. I will expire if they ever stop offering it.

Death L.

Google
Would you say this is a birria taco?? Anyone?? Honestly I was expecting better even service was so horrible.Literally disappointing that they don’t know how to actually make birria tacos and the fact that there $4.50 each?? Insane for a one-two bite “taco”. que vergüenza este negocio y los trabajadores😂

Gerardo B.

Google
I bought 2 burritos and amd 3 tacos. The worst Anna's around MA. The food was with no flavor at all. the meat was undercooked everything was looking like the food was from yesterday or before yesterday

hitesh J.

Google
The burrito is pretty good and better than average. Although it still lacks some flavor and spice. A bit bland for my taste. The chicken was too dry and hard too chew. Overall an ok place but not good as felipe in Harvard!

tstikeman

Google
I ordered a Super Burrito (12”). This is definitely NOT a super burrito lol.

Leela M

Google
I came in and the first thing I saw was meat trays stacked on each other. This is very unsanitary and horrible. One set of trays was with raw chicken and the other with cooked. See the photos. I should have left but I decided to try birria tacos. They were so salty that I almost choked. Also, birria tacos are supposed to have cheese and be grilled after they are assembled. Mine were not grilled. Worst birria I have ever tasted. Restaurant looks like it’s run by kids. Do not spend one dollar here.

Yelp
I love Anna's. It's been around for 30 years, and was the first taqueria I ever experienced. All the fast Mexican chains will always be measured against Anna's Taqueria in my mind. When it opened, there were hardly any options or toppings, but now there are a plethora. So many that you might actually create a combination that doesn't taste good. Service is as expected - quick and friendly. The taqueria is very casual with counter service, but no table service. Ordering ahead can help you skip the line, which can be unexpectedly long at peak lunch and dinner hours.

Yelp
Ordered a chicken burrito to go and I've gotta say it was wrapped so well that I barely lost any filling while eating it! Good food, I'll be back.

Yelp
Solid burrito. Get one for free using the app. Service great, ambiance great. yummy burrito

Yelp
If you want to eat a Mexican place first ask the workers where they are from cause clearly none of the staff or kitchen are from Mexico or know anything about Mexican food . This Horchata was the most disgusting horchata I have tried in my life . Rude server don't come here and waste your money / time .
google avatar

Nino E.

Yelp
I came back here just for the birria taco because i remember it being really good last time. Unfortunately i have no idea what happened. I took a bite and realized it was not the same birria i had before. You can take a look around the pictures before where the meat looked tender and flavorful while now its bland and fatty. Im kind of sad, i used to really like the birria here and now i have to find a different spot :(

Yelp
First of all the staff at the Davis sq. Somerville MA location is fantastic, always friendly, professional and polite, even when you ask for a special order! The food is great, this location is alway clean and neat, I even see the folks taking temperature readings of the food to make sure all is good for eating. Very impressed with this location and is perfectly managed.

Keeks R.

Yelp
What awkward customer service. Walked in to 4 people behind the counter. They acted like I wasn't standing there and continued their conversation. One of them seemed to be filling an online order, so I assumed they all were. Still no greeting or acknowledging my presence. One of them made eye contact with me and continued on her way. Other two standing closest to the soda just laughed and hung out. FINALLY eye contact girl started plating what I assume was the rest of the online orders. When I moved the third time so I was directly in front of her, she deadpans "what would you like?" This was my first time in 3 years coming back to this spot, I was so excited. Yikes. I used to make everyone try this spot. The food was ok but not worth it if my patronage is such a BOTHER to your employees. No thanks

Yelp
Can never go wrong with a veggie burrito from here. So well balanced and the veggies are always cooked well. It was quiet in the afternoon so service was super fast. Price is reasonable for the size.

Yelp
1st time . I hesitate to give my real review . I had such a bad experience tho I have to write something . I wanted a chicken bowl and tacos ... I arrive to four people standing in front of me - workers talking with themselves . None of us know where to go. After a few minutes of standing they start to take care of us - but as such blazing fast speed it's a really a turn off . Throwing food into the bowl/ onto the table - barely letting me think. I just accept it .I ask for queso- the worker quickely throws on shredded cheese . I ask for queso and chips to deal with it myself - I'm given a bag of chips and gross looking cheese that started the horror trip. Going back to eat the food - it's not the quality I had hoped for . The cheese starts to what I can only describe as decompose . It's thick and bubbly and gross . Not queso like I've ever had it . It felt like the cheese was going bad tbh . The chips felt like over salted grocery store bag chips . The taco was the only redeaming factor . The whole experience left me effed up tho. I went back home sick and fell asleep at nine . Asked my roommates . They said this place has changed alot in 30 years since they remmeber liking it . Sorry staff . I think you all need better interpersonal communication skills - and better quality food/ cheese : /

Yelp
The food is great and the serving size are also very well portioned the service is fast and the restaurant eating area is fairly kept

Erin F.

Yelp
This is a review from my 7 year old Miles: "Their burritos are amazing! There are so many toppings! I really like how they cook the cheese on the tortilla so the cheese gets all melted. And they have really good service. The seating is really nice."
google avatar

Yelp
If this place goes out of business, it'll make the Queen song come true - Anna-other one bites the dust. They blend up pretty good authentic Mexican food with some fake Americanized Tex-Mex stuff mixed in for the people who want that. If you're one of the people that want that, we can't be friends anymore. They should probably have slightly better reviews than they do because they're providing some good authenticity and some good flavours.

Yelp
I know during my college years, so many friends of mine loved the food from this beloved place. Me, not so much and after maybe a decade plus I come back and try it again; still, the feeling hasn't changed. I definitely had better fast Mexican food and this is not the only place for that. Plus the service at this particular location was terrible. The cashier didn't know what the hell she was doing and it took maybe 10 minutes for her to figure out how to register my order. She had two other employees telling her as I was standing there. Plus she kept fumbling on how to pack my order even after I paid. She even almost forgot my two tacos, which were next to her. If it wasn't for the lady who actually assembled my tacos and told her, I would have told her in the most annoyed way.

Yelp
I LOVE ANNA'S! Here is the deal... cafeteria style ordering. All the meat is cooked right there. You can see them make your food. They melt the cheese and your tortilla on a press! I don't feel liek after that I need to explain any further! Everyone who works there is Hispanic (just showing their authenticity here!) Quesadilla thrown in press? No way! they baste it in something (is it oil?) then throw it right onto the grill- hand flipping it! You can have any burrito topping added and make it the size of a burrito! The cheese is so soft and delicious! I had a chicken burrito and once again, with the melted cheese and anything else that pleases me... you cannot go wrong here!

Yelp
So, I had a burrito at Anna's recently and there was some good as well as some bad. I'll start with the good. Not gonna lie, my burrito was pretty awesome. I got the chips and salsa as well and I was not disappointed. The food was fantastic and the portions were large. I couldn't finish my burrito and it made for a delicious super. Now on to the bad. The atmosphere is less than cozy. I can look past most of it but the bottom of the front door scrapes the floor every time it opens and it is borderline unbearable. Every time someone comes or goes there is a harsh, shrill, screech that can be heard throughout the establishment. Oh man, just brutal. It seems like it should be a reasonably easy fix. I would absolutely return if I didn't have to listen to the door.
google avatar

Stephanie Q.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food that somehow wasn't that delicious. I ordered the steak en salsa quesadilla which is supposed to be a spicy. It wasn't spicy. I like the way the quesadilla is heated over the grill with cheese, so that the cheese becomes all melty and nice. After that you, you can pick your toppings- rice, beans (black or pinto), protein, jalapenos, pico, lettuce. There are also 3 different sizes for the quesadilla, I chose the normal size. The quesadilla was rolled up like a burrito. I was hoping to be amazed by each bite but I was not. It was just average and lacked flavor. The steak at Chipotle taste better than the steak here. Overall, I was unimpressed.

Yelp
My visit here will forever be marked as the demise of Anna's Taqueria for me. Some background of what Anna's Taqueria has met to me in the past: this establishment used to be a great college meal, a late night treat, and a nice once in awhile craving. I have not visited Anna's in years but did come here two days ago and things have changed. The food like the ambience at this particular Anna's Taqueria is dingy. I ordered a chicken burrito bowl with chips and salsa on the side. The chicken was dry and had bones in it (gross), the rice was more like sushi sticky rice and flavorless, there was no shredded cheese option and just one salsa option. The only three things that were pleasant about my food experience here was that I was allowed to have two types of beans added to my bowl, the spicy sauce was actually spicy, and the chips were pretty good and not oily. All in all I will never come back here knowing there's a Chipotle a couple stores down the street. The standards have dropped very low for Anna's- I'm not sure I will be able to recover.

Yelp
Update- had a small steak burrito. The toppings were all good- guac, rice, beans, sour cream, sauces, and jalapeño. Not into the cut of meat they use as steak though. It tastes like kind of more of a stew meat, which I don't associate with a classic steak burrito. From before: Quick service, amazing guacamole and chips, and a tasty carnitas burrito with super spicy sauce.
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
Order was cold. We ordered a super cheese quesadilla with EXTRA cheese, sour cream ON THE SIDE. The order came with NO cheese, and just hot sour cream ON THE INSIDE. Restaurant refused to send a new one and wanted us to pick up our DINNER tomorrow. Very bad service. We give this .
google avatar

Caleb L.

Yelp
I really don't leave negative comments as a business owner myself and understand how negative reviews hurt a lot. But this one is truly disappointing. Latino gentleman in front of me ordered a "super" 12". Really looked delicious and was barely able to close the burrito. Asked the server for the same. Mine looked half the size with lots of room to spare. $12.50 for a burrito that would've been at least 33% larger at a chipotle. Thought I'd support a local small business but really disappointed. Going back to chipotle here on out.

Yelp
Why oh why did it take me so long to visit one of these locations? I heard so many good things but still was hesitant. Well on this fine day I wanted to eat tacos so bad and I decided let me give it a go. The menu options are something else. Everything on there is just appealing, have to be careful with some places cause that's how they get you. Thought that would be the case here and it wasn't. You walk in and that is kind of weird cause there are 2 serving stations and a cash register in the middle. If it is your first time going there you are kind of lost cause you arent sure why there are 2 places and there are no signs that tell you where to go. But once you know where to stand the rest is magic. The Food: OMG it is so good, the salsa is so fresh and so delightful. The food is so good the smell is amazing. I had the chili verde pork burrito and my oh my. They are not as big as you would find at other chained restaurants but you wont find their taste either. Writing this review is making me want more now. What else could you ask for then low prices and great food? The staff was great

Yelp
Our family has been coming here regularly for over 20 years and we've loved it, but recently we've had some problems. For the past couple months we have found pieces of plastic in our rice. When we contacted them they said they were going to send a coupon. It has now been two months, we reached out a month later to check in, and they still have not sent it after saying they would. On top of that, we recently got a delivery order and our guacamole and chips were left out even though we payed for them. It's sad to see that they have been going downhill.

Angela A.

Yelp
I used to love getting Anna's for my family for years, but lately I find staff to be rude and they skimp on portions. It's very disappointing to spend the same amount of money that you would on a sub and still be hungry after eating an Anna's regular burrito. There's a large portion of the population who are food insecure, especially students, and you guys make money hand over fist, so there's no reason for you to be greedy! Stop cheating the customers by skimping on the food and be polite to your customers. Come on Anna's you can do much better than this!
google avatar

Alec M.

Yelp
Enough is a enough.I have been coming here with my family for two decades. We have really enjoyed the burritos and a lot of the people too. It is a part of our history but, honestly, enough is enough. I'm done. We deserve more. The norm here are burritos made so slap dash that you have no idea if you are getting what you want or getting something that is thoughtfully made with true appreciation for the customer. Most of the staff are grumpy, don't make eye contact, and seems completely disinterested. They seem almost trained to be rude, often with someone watching them to make sure that they don't make the contact that the customer wants or, god forbid, give more sour cream or guacamole than they are supposed to. $10 for a burrito that more often than not is sloppily made is way too much but I would gladly pay it if i would get even a little better service or be treated like they actually cares if I came back. I appreciate that COVID-19 has been a hardship but this should make them more interested in providing good service and value but unfortunately it's been the opposite. I'm done. I'll try back in a couple months but until things change you've lost a loyal customer.

Yelp
What else can I add to a Boston institution with close to 300 reviews PER LOCATION? I was perusing some of the reviews and there are others comparing Mexican food in Boston to that of California? First off, that's entirely unfair. We actually have SEASONS here where we can't just grow local, fresh produce more than 5-6 months out of the year. Lets say for the sake of argument that Anna's uses some special cilantro that is only grown in Cali year round. Well of course it's going to be slightly different after being shipped 3000 miles and not "as fresh". It's merely impossible to have a super fresh taco or burrito in the middle of January, come on people. This is the best and cheapest we have, whether or not you have come to accept that or not. Most of us were raised on Taco Bell or even Chi-Chis (remember them?) so in that comparison model........we're really impressed! Consider yourself lucky if you're a Cali transplant. Guess what, we still have better lobster than you. Sorry for my rant, it just irks me when people compare apples to oranges. So the Davis Sq location......always clean, always a welcoming and friendly staff who works quickly to prepare your Mexican cravings. I rarely stray from a super burrito and don't need much else other than water to wash it down with, all for less than $5 if you stay away from the "additional toppings". It's the only thing that has ever upset me but at least I learned early on, don't add guacomole or they will charge you like 60 cents extra. I understand that, I just wish it was stated because they will ALWAYS ask you about it. If I'm dining with others, I usually end up with a side of chips/guac and a part of me wishes I could replicate what they make at home. Chunky and perfectly seasoned every time, man they have that down pact for it being mass produced. The only thing I have yet to do at Anna's is attempt to stomach the tongue (langua) burrito. I've come ttthhhiiisss close a bunch of times but can't pull the trigger on it because all of the other meats are talking to my nasal passages. I may have to update my review once I finally do but clearly, lovely Anna's can't get any more starz.
google avatar

Christie L.

Yelp
The steak roja was prettyy spicy!! I couldn't eat all of it because it was burning my taste buds. But it was still good. Much more flavor than the lengua in my opinion. Also tried the vegetarian burrito. It was pretty delicious and the veggies looked fresh.

Carlos P.

Yelp
One of the least appetizing bowls I have seen in a long time. I received this as an incorrect order when I ordered on Anna's website. Due to dietary restrictions the bowl is inedible for me. I called the location to ask for refund as I cannot eat the dish and was abruptly hung up on by and employee without any solution other than "I'll let the manager know". Would give zero stars if I could.
google avatar

Young P.

Yelp
Let me save you the trouble and tell you straight up what you need to order from this place. Super quesadilla with steak, rice, black beans, lettuce, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, jalapenos, and extra hot sauce. If you agree, let me get them likes!!!!!
google avatar

Deff J.

Yelp
Basically a beloved local version of chipotle. It's fine. The meat isn't terrible but it's not exactly flavorful either. Exactly middle of the road.
google avatar

Kai M.

Yelp
I grew up eating Anna's and even after spending my first year in Los Angeles, I still do believe that nothing compares to an Anna's burrito. Every time I get the exact same thing: super burrito with cheese, rice, pinto beans, carnitas, salsa, and hot sauce. There's really nothing that can come close with how Anna's does their carnitas. They also steam the tortilla with the cheese on it so that your burrito is warm, soft and covered with melty cheese the second it gets to you. They make it right in front of you, you tell them what exactly you want, and it's handed to you less than a minute later. You receive a large burrito for a cheap price and you get it fast. It's still beyond delicious if you take it home and heat it up the next day. If you've been to Felipe's in Harvard Square, I would say that the burritos taste very similar but Anna's gives you more bang for your buck. I've been eating here since I was five years old and it has never changed in quality or how much I love it :) If you're in Boston/Cambridge make sure to stop by one of their locations.
google avatar

Yelp
Best burritos ever. I always get takeout and the line is usually moderate (5 min wait max). The guys who make the burritos are friendly, the counter girls are okay. The burritos are sooo good. There are a lot of options for food in the area and this place trumps most. I highly recommend the burrito I usually get: super burrito with cheese, half grilled chicken, half grilled veggies, no rice, black beans, lettuce, sour cream, pico de gallo, and guacamole. The chicken tastes a little off but I can't quite describe what it is. The grilled veggies are fantastic. I think they charge an extra fee that they don't tell you about if you use a credit/debit card because it seems to cost more when I do... I could be wrong though. I usually don't like burritos but I will definitely order them from here.
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
Covid update: many people are hesitant about take out for good reason. Anna's does a super good job keeping their customers at a safe distance from each other and also keeps their employees safe with masks and face shields. They also have the plexiglass screen for the cash register. So far Anna's has been the safest I've felt picking up food indoors for take out. Thanks so much for taking care of your employees while taking care of your customers! BTW These are delicious burritos. I recommend the chile verde but most burritos I've eaten there have been yum, even the St Patty's day special (corned beef and cabbage) makes you wish that St Pattys day was every day.

art h.

Yelp
Normally love this place. Nice staff, overall good burritos and guacamole. Great chicken, steak, carnitas. But I had the Al pastor in my burrito this time and was disappointed with how they had changed the recipe - it used to be soooo good. Now there's very little pork and HUGE pineapple chunks. It was ungodly sweet. I'm used to there being just enough pineapple to flavor the pork but not actual giant chunks of it. Anna's, please consider going back to the amazing original recipe! The one that got you all those great reviews over the years. Otherwise, love you.
google avatar

Logan D.

Yelp
Pros: -Super fresh veggies Cons: -No brown rice available -- Chicken Burrito ($6.37) Tortilla was too gummy, but the Pico de Gallo was awesomely fresh, as were the veggies! Definitely better than Chipotle, but El Pelon's spicy pico has it beat...
google avatar

Ian S.

Yelp
I love Anna's and only thing holding me back from giving this location a 4 or 5 is the amount of times Quesadillas aren't available. Tonight makes 4 visits to this location all on different days and times where they tell me "no quesadillas" available. I ended up going to Porter Sq location and no issues. Other than this location not ever having quesadillas lately, it's a solid location and the food is great.

Victor G.

Yelp
Messed up our delivery order tonight. Didn't pack one of the burritos. The response was basically oops, too bad for you.
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
I'm really glad I ordered the quesadilla...then they rolled it like a burrito and this is what I ended up with.
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
We were trying to support a restaurant we enjoy during a time of coronavirus crisis. All the customizations we paid for? Not done. The food was delivered an hour late. When it was delivered, it was left IN THE WRONG PLACE, with no notification, so it sat outside in the cold for half an hour before we discovered it, as we sat hungry and waiting.

Yvette J.

Yelp
if I could give a negative star I would have...I ordered chips and salsa and a steak plate. My food was delivered to me in a Walmart bag by driver " Marcos" Worst door dash order I have ever received!!! The paper bag that my chips were in was soaking wet! The steak plate was cold and looked like the food has been tampered with. I called ANNA's to speak with a manager. Someone came to the phone and told me "he was too busy to talk to me!" Call the company! They made the order..blame the driver! Really ANNA's? Never again will I order from ANNA's . Granted the driver was at fault however, it's a reflection of YOUR business.. shame!!!!!
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
I will never understand the five star reviews for this place. Everything is unseasoned and bland from the meats to the veggies. I echo a previous reviewer that said you'll find more flavorful food in nursing homes. They also charge extra for toppings that are free at other fast casual Mexican chains.
google avatar

Beth Y.

Yelp
Overall, good food for a decent price, but a lacking inside. FOOD Quesadilla w/ half chicken, half veggies: 4/5 First off, I like that you can put some chopped grilled veggies in your quesadilla - huge game changer. Like Felipe's (a rival Mexican place in Harvard Square), the quesadilla was basically a burrito where you can load it up with all sorts of fillings. For the quesadilla though, they crisp up the tortilla and melt the cheese inside! I asked for the green hot sauce, but personally didn't find it very spicy, and my tolerance is very low, so go for something hotter if you want a kick. AMBIENCE: 3/5 I've been told before that Felipe's is usually considered Anna's rival, but in terms of ambience, Felipe's has this place beat. Anna's isn't an evening type of place. It's a smaller store and didn't appear to offer alcoholic beverages. If you're going for a casual meal with friends, then this would be perfect!
google avatar

Peggy S.

Yelp
This was my first time here so my review is a bit different from the others. I got into town late so I was looking for a place that was still open and serving food past 11 p.m. This was one of the few and the area still open on a Wednesday night. When we went in, there were a few people in line ordering. Luckily the two guys with me spoke Spanish so they took care of most of the ordering. Between the three of us we got 3 tacos, one small burrito for me, and a bowl. I couldn't believe the amount of meat that they put on their tacos! It made me wish I had gotten them instead. I got the chicken Ranchero burrito with guacamole and everything else. I also found it to be much better than Chipotle burritos, and the chicken was really good! I would have like to add some more veggies but otherwise everyone was very happy with their selections. Next time: I'll be getting tacos!
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
Ordered fresh guacamole and chips and two burritos. The guacamole is great, the fresh tortilla chips are STELLAR. Delicious, salty, very crunchy. Burrito with carnitas and fresh salsa was delicious and too big for one sitting.
google avatar

Jeffrey L.

Yelp
Classic that never goes out of style. Get a steak super quesadilla and don't sleep on the corned beef that's done once a year

T T.

Yelp
Had one of the bowls, and it was surprisingly delicious. The meat was well cooked, and seasoned - not too salty, and the person behind the counter was friendly and patient while we decided what to have.
google avatar

Damien S.

Yelp
"Next!" Um, I guess I'll have the Super Chicken with black beans and... What? Done already? But all I have is this change I found in my couch... That covers it? Really? I bet it tastes like sh... Yum.
google avatar

Nikolai K.

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite places to eat, I come here very often. Most of the time I get the plate, which is pretty much like a burrito without the tortilla, but with more of the innards. I like to load my plates up with black beans too, for sure a great source of fiber. They have jalapenos and spicy sauces always which is awesome, definitely a great place to go if you like spicy food. Always fills me up, amazing post-gym meal. The burritos are fantastic too, and quite large, especially the super. The tacos are phenomenal as a light snack, they definitely load them up. Protip: if you show up close to closing time, then they will load you up more than usual, since they probably don't want to have too much leftover food.
google avatar

Cristina R.

Yelp
Although Chipotle is just down the street, Anna's is my preferred place for a Davis burrito fix. It's not entirely authentic, but they have more traditional Mexican offerings like lengua and al pastor. I'm a fan of their spicy sauces - the chili verde and salsa roja make the meat oh so flavorful! I often get half grilled veggies, which they cut up for you on the spot, and half meat. It's a good value for the price. If you're really hungry, ditch the wrap and go for the Mexican plate! It's only a few pesos more, and you get a hefty serving of rice, beans, tortillas, and meat/veggies. If I have some time after acquiring my quickly-prepared meal, I try to grab a seat by the windows to watch the passerby on busy Elm street. And pity them since they're not shoving a delicious burrito into their mouths at that moment.
