"With only 8 acres (they only produce 1,000 cases per year), Anomaly is probably the smallest vineyard on our list. A visit to the boutique winery (which will likely be led by owner Steve Goldfarb) is always intimate, and the cabs are sophisticated but really approachable."

Anomaly wine is superb. Toast, oak, dark fruit. The Designation barrels/bottles are special and rare. A special thanks to Zoe for hosting us- she’s world class. Hidden gem for a winery right in the heart of oakville.

Anomaly Vineyards, nestled in the renowned St. Helena appellation of Napa Valley, offers an extraordinary experience for wine enthusiasts seeking truly exceptional red wines. As the smallest winery in Napa, this boutique winery, with its rich history and dedication to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon, epitomizes the artistry and precision that define Napa Valley winemaking. Anomaly Vineyards was founded in 1997 by Steve and Linda Goldfarb, along with their friends, with a simple yet ambitious goal: to craft world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. The name "Anomaly" itself reflects the founders' initial foray into the world of winemaking, as none of them had any prior experience in the industry. Despite their unconventional start, the Goldfarbs and their team have managed to create a winery that consistently produces wines of remarkable quality and complexity. The vineyard is meticulously managed, with an emphasis on sustainable farming practices that respect the land and its natural resources. This commitment to sustainability is evident in the health and vitality of the vines, which produce grapes of exceptional character and depth. The vineyard's unique microclimate and diverse soil types contribute to the distinctive qualities of Anomaly's wines, ensuring that each vintage expresses the essence of its terroir. A visit to Anomaly Vineyards is an intimate and personalized experience, where you are welcomed as a guest rather than a tourist. The tasting room, set amidst the picturesque vineyard, offers a serene and elegant setting to savor the winery's exquisite red wines. During our visit, we had the pleasure of sampling several vintages of Anomaly's signature Cabernet Sauvignon, each one a testament to the winery's dedication to excellence. The complexity of Anomaly's red wines is truly remarkable. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, for instance, is a symphony of flavors, with layers of blackberry, cassis, and dark chocolate interwoven with hints of graphite and cedar. The wine's velvety tannins and balanced acidity create a harmonious structure that promises both immediate enjoyment and long-term aging potential. Another standout is the 2017 Anomaly Cabernet Sauvignon, which captivates with its aromatic intensity and intricate flavor profile. Notes of black cherry, plum, and espresso are complemented by subtle undertones of tobacco and spice, culminating in a long, elegant finish. This wine exemplifies the meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship that define Anomaly Vineyards. The history of Anomaly Vineyards is a story of passion, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of quality. From its humble beginnings, the winery has grown into a respected producer of some of Napa Valley's finest Cabernet Sauvignons. The Goldfarbs' dedication to their craft is evident in every aspect of the winery, from the vineyard to the cellar, ensuring that each bottle of Anomaly wine is a true reflection of the land and the people who nurture it. Anomaly Vineyards is a must-visit destination for any wine lover seeking an authentic and memorable Napa Valley experience. The complexity and elegance of their red wines, combined with the winery's rich history, stunning vineyard setting, and distinction as the smallest winery in Napa, make for an unforgettable tasting journey. Anomaly Vineyards stands as a testament to the extraordinary potential of Napa Valley terroir and the passion of those who strive to capture it in every bottle.

Google
What a hidden small production family owned gem. I have been drinking the wines for years but had never visited them until today. Did a 3 year vertical tasting in the barrel room and the wines have such structure and perfect barrel integration. Drink young or age, no bad choice. I would buy enough to do a little of both.

We were referred to Anomaly by a wine member there and my wife and I were able to get in for a private tasting. This very intimate property is beautiful, the wine is great and the best part was our host, TJ. We could not have possibly enjoyed our time or the wine anymore and strongly recommend to anyone else looking for something other than big winery tours/tastings.

We were referred to Anomaly by another vineyard and were welcomed like family with open arms. When we arrived at the vineyard, Steve and TJ greeted us and their banter/rapport was phenomenal. TJ was an amazing and knowledgeable host who truly made the experience. The wines at Anomaly are highly tannic and very different from other boutique vineyards. Overall, we are extremely excited to age these wines and see how they change over the years. Thank you again, Steve and TJ. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

TJ was so nice to arrange our wine tasting the day before Thanksgiving. We enjoyed our visit and were appreciative of his time and knowledge. These Cabs are one of our favorites from Napa or anywhere really. Try them out the moment you have the chance. You won’t regret it.

Google
Anomaly was recommended to us by a friend and we are so glad we took their advice. Had a great private tour and tasting with Seth. We were able to taste their 2015 and 2016 cabs and ended up shipping home a bottle of each! Would definitely add this to your napa itinerary as it was great to visit a more small production boutique winery.

Yelp
Zoe! Was amazing, the views were great but the wine itself was fantastic. 2020 and designation are spot on.

Yelp
This is a quiet, professional, and pleasant visit to a small vineyard tucked into the side of the valley. We had a great tasting and learned a lot about the history of the valley here. The wines were great. The underground tasting room was very nice. Hats off to the work the family has done to craft a boutique wine experience.

Yelp
Over the years I have visited dozens of wineries/vineyards in Napa Valley and Anomaly is one of our favorites! There are many larger and glitzier, but few more inviting, beautiful, and enjoyable as Anomaly! They really focus on you and your visit. BY APPOINTMENT so make one and make it early! We've been buying Anomaly for a couple years now for our wine cellar so it was especially fun for us to see their digs in person! TJ was our host and we couldn't have asked for anyone better to show us around, tell us the history, and host our tasting! Five star on all counts, and TJ even shared his insights into a few other hidden gems in the valley! Anomaly is one of those wineries I refer to as an oasis in Napa. Away from the crowds, hustle and bustle, and often times pretentious marketing you can encounter. Here you are in the vineyard, in highly comfortable surroundings, and a place you can just feel is focused on the most important thing -- the wines they craft. And they craft some very, very wonderful wines! Their barrel room is wonderful all on its own, but when you add tasting some of Anomaly's best it is a notch above most! We loved the story behind their logo a ton too! This is one of those smaller wineries that shouldn't be missed on a trip to Napa Valley. It is an experience different!

Yelp
Lovely wine and delightful host. Very small and off the beaten path but worth it. You must make a reservation to visit.

Yelp
One of the best small wineries that I've visited in Napa. Wonderful experience, incredible wines (albeit not cheap to buy), and overall a great find. We had a private vineyard tour and tasting with the owner Steve...lots of great stories about how they fell into winemaking. The barrel room and tasting room downstairs were really cool as well. Steve's son Seth was extremely helpful from the beginning as well. This was definitely a splurge bottle for me (around $90), but well worth it. They're right next to Del Dotto off Hwy 29, so it's essentially the same growing conditions without the $125 price next door. I found the wines very similar to Del Dotto in their complexity, balance, and soft tannins. One of the best Cabs I've tasted. I bought the 2007 and preferred it to the 06 or 08. It's a pretty sexy wine and a great off-the-beaten-path vineyard. Regardless of whether you buy, I think this is a great place to visit. Appointment only. A definite must-visit.

Yelp
This is a great experience!!! Personal since they're only able to accommodate small parties. It was very cool sitting below ground in their tasting room. The vineyard has an adorable story. The wine is decent but definitely not worth the $60 price tag for tasting 2 wines. There are actually quite a few other places for better wine but at a lower cost. I would recommend this place if you didn't mind the cost and like smaller operations.

Yelp
Some of the most sophisticated Cabs we have tasted. Very long finish and the tannins are so subtle you have to wonder if it is really cab. Of course it is a cab, the most beautiful wines we have purchased. Fantastic wine and very exciting tasting.

Yelp
I would like to recommend a great boutique winery in St. Helena called Anomaly Vineyards. This is a small family owned winery that does one wine (cabernet) and does it very well. We live in the Bay Area and plan about 2-3 day trips to Napa per year. We will typically visit 4 wineries per day, appointments only. Our goal is to find lesser known wineries that are doing high-end limited production wines. We find that we get a more personal and intimate experience this way, and are usually very impressed with the wines. We will occassionally throw in one of the larger wineries we haven't yet visited, but are typically disappointed with the experience relative to the smaller wineries. On our recent trip (April 2009), we visited Garguilo (Oakville), Caymus (Rutherford), Revana (St. Helena) and Anomaly (St. Helena). Garguilo was outstanding. Gorgeous setting with a beautiful tasting room and huge deck overlooking beautiful vineyards and horse stables. The tasting was a private tasting hosted by a lovely woman named Sue. Wine was excellent and fairly priced, and Sue included a delicious olive/cheese/salami plate which was a very nice touch. Caymus was a complete letdown. Held in a mausoleum type room, by a hostess who could not have been more stiff. Literally (no joke) delivered a memorized presentation. Looked and acted a bit like Cliff Claven's mother, and we're pretty sure she didn't break a smile the entire time. Skip this one unless you have "Visit Caymus" on your 100-Things-To-Do-Before-I-Die List. Which would be understandable -- the wine is great. Just a lousy place to visit. We broke here for lunch at Martini House -- our favorite overall restaurant in Napa for combination of atmosphere, food and service. Once again, it exceeded expectations. Revana got us back on track. Tasting was hosted by the lovely Nathalie, who was fun and friendly and eager to taste guests on this ultra-premium Cabernet as well as another Syrah made by the vaunted Heidi Peterson-Barrett. We were joined by some rather odd Germans who seemed to be on a tour of the most expensive places in Napa (including French Laundry, which they found to be "So-so"), but this didn't throw Nathalie in the least (she's from Bordeaux, so perhaps is accustomed to it). We didn't know what to expect from this place, and were very pleasantly surprised. If you're looking for a winery that decided to spare no expense in making the best possible wine (with bottle prices to match), this is your place. We ended at Anomaly. Here, we were hosted by Seth, son of the owners, who is now active in the winery. Seth is a fun, friendly and gracious host. The experience starts with a tour of the beautiful vineyards next to the property which sit at the base of the picturesque Mayacaymus Mountain range. After a quick look look at the winemaking equipment and process (which we still find interesting) the tasting is then held in a beautiful little tasting room/cave underneath the winery. We tasted their current release (2005) as well as a prior vintage (2003). Both wines were outstanding. We highly recommend visiting this winery.

Yelp
What a great winery. Their tasting room is located underground and has quiet the ambience. Our host was friendly and informative. The wines were amazing. I bought more wine from this winery than any others on my trip.

Yelp
We found this little vineyard about five years ago and go back each time we are in town. Their wines are superb, high quality, consistently good. We joined their wine club and have never been disappointed! Thanks for making some amazing wines

Yelp
Absolutely amazing small production winery. Call or email in advance for an intimate (but non-threatening) appointment with the passionate and knowledgeable staff (Seth was fantastic). This is a Cab only winery... so make sure you're a fan of the big red. The wines are not inexpensive (~$80 / bottle), but well worth it -- something to hang on to for a special occasion.

Yelp
Absolutely superb cab Sav !! You must experience if you have a discriminating pallet and favor small boutique wineries who really enjoy visiting with their patrons! Also .....Genevieve has to be a top 5 ranked host/sales professional in the Napa area She is a walking encyclopedia of wine and terroir knowledge, not to mention a very classy and personable representative of Anomaly. A MUST experience!

Yelp
Looking for a truly quiet and private hidden gem? This is it. The barrel room downstairs is a fun secret for the cognoscenti. The family produces only a few cases of truly lovely cab, rich in color with soft tannins and full-body. Keep this in your back pocket for a weekend when the wineries along 29 look like ant hives.

Yelp
Highlight of our weekend ! This vineyard is charming and has an interesting story . Call ahead for a private tour . You won't be disappointed . Genvieve was a delight and very knowledgable . The 2009 Cab is delicious . Can't wait to cook a special dinner and enjoy this wine.

Yelp
it was great to wander away from the usual traffic on st. helena hwy. steve hosted the wine and olive oil tasting and it was amazing. both surprised and delighted our taste buds! special thank you to steve and seth for being so accommodating taking a fairly short notice appointment and then being so flexible when we ran 30 minutes late. the vineyard itself is beautiful and quaint - a really nice personal feel.
