I would say this is definitely a breakfast restaurant, more-so than a dinner establishment. I personally thought the breakfast food was incredible, and if you get there before 7:30 am, they have a special you can get for half price.
We also went to dinner once here on our trip, and just like two years ago, it left something to be desired. I absolutely understand that this is a small town and that it's a family business. The dining area is not very big, and not very fancy for the type of restaurant it is trying to be. The building has had other eating establishments occupy it in the past, and it just feels awkward inside when sitting down. Just fine for breakfast, but too weird for dinner time.
Anyhow, my only complaints would be that during dinner time, they are understaffed. Could use at least one more person, if not two. (This was the case on both visits, two years apart.) One of the waitresses wasn't all that friendly, but maybe she was just too busy. Even though they were busy, let's keep in mind that even though the dining room was essentially full, there might have been 40 people there, and the food took FOREVER to get to our tables. And, the group that arrived just after us, received their food a good five minutes before us. The food was very good when it came, but when you have small children, it's hard to keep them occupied for that time. (Keep in mind, there are no "fast food joints" in Gordon, Nebraska.)
All of that said, I am still going to give them 4 out of 5 stars, based on the food alone, with just the wait and mild unfriendliness dragging them down.
