Netflix’s ‘Wild Wild Country’ Depicts an Outrageous Food Poisoning Spree | Eater

"A longtime greasy spoon in a tiny Central Oregon town that was bought by followers of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and transformed into a symbol of the group's takeover; the conversion of its menu and vibe became a flashpoint in local tensions, with locals noting visible shifts in fare that exemplified broader cultural changes brought by the newcomers." - Greg Morabito

The food was excellent and reasonably priced. We had a big group so the food came out all separate which was fine. The staff, however, were bickering a bit amongst themselves. As we were leaving, our waitress (not Darla) complained to one of our group that nobody was tipping her.a tip. Well, we were all leaving our tip up front where we paid and practically all of us left between a 20% and 30% tip so that really put us off. Darla, the owner. was sweet to us.

Absolutely awesome place was there working for almost two weeks and ate there every day and even stopped back in on the way home couldn't find anything I didn't like the service and atmosphere was absolutely excellent the cook was super cool 😎😎 wish I could remember his name but his wife was one of the waitresses and a total sweetheart loved getting to enjoy the small town vibe if ever there and don't go it's your loss

We had the most wonderful experience at the Antelope Creek Cafe. We stopped in here for dinner on a long distance drive from Minnesota to Idaho, drawn to the town by a certain magnetic energy. After visiting the park in town, we made our way around looking for a restaurant. We were drawn to this restaurant, something about it stood out and we pulled in and entered. Upon entering, we immediately knew that we had made the right choice. We were greeted and seated quickly by Kenny, who would quickly become one of our favorite people we met along the trip. Our entire experience was perfect, from arrival to exit. We ordered the Burritos and Enchiladas to share, which arrived quickly and well-presented. The food was delicious, especially for the price. Beyond the food, the energy and atmosphere was about as good as it gets. Kenny was so extremely kind and friendly, it absolutely made our evening. His hospitality was so appreciated, it set a positive tone for the rest of our drive that remains even now. If you happen to find yourself in Gordon, or anywhere nearby that is within range, I highly recommend stopping in to the Antelope Creek Cafe. Give Kenny a friendly hello, and find yourself a home away from home for a meal. 💙

Don't have high expectations, not many food options in town. The cook was having issues getting the meals out. The waitress had to coach him. The food was lacking any real flavor. Skip the enchilada. There must be vampires around, the walls are covered with crosses.

Google
Antelope Creek Cafe is true “home cooking”! I was impressed with the friendly waitress, quick service, and quality food. The gals kept my coffee mug full and made sure I had everything I needed to enjoy my breakfast. I would recommend their establishment to anyone who appreciates a small town, locally operated restaurant!

Food was quite good, solid breakfast omelet. Pleasant waitress, nice homey atmosphere.

We are in town for work and stopped for supper. I ordered a Ruben and was told they were out of sauerkraut 5 minutes after my coworker got his food. So I asked for a cheese burger. It came out with no lettuce, Pickles, onions anything. I asked for them and never got them. The ketchup and mustard had the most flavor on it. Fries cost extra so I got the fried green beans and I got 9 fried greenbeans for $4.50. The ranch was good that is the only positive thing I can say here.

Google
A nice, quiet little restaurant, with quick and friendly staff. The breakfast was reasonably priced and tasted good. All the western decor made for a nice stop.

Yelp
Can't say anything about the food, but I sat there about 10-15 minutes. I'm on the road and needed to stop somewhere for lunch. Passing through. It's a small place and no one came over to even give me a menu.

Yelp
love this place, sadly too far away to make it a regular thing, I have been going there for years with different friends and relatives. Everything is good, there's nothing like a small town café for real food!

Angie C.

Yelp
Had the Reuben. Amazing! May be the best Reuben I've had. Clean. Nice restrooms. If you're in Gordon, NE eat here!

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here for breakfast and this time was terrible. My husband's sausage patties weren't fully cooked, the food came and the hash browns were cold...we sent them back and they came back slightly warm. Waitress had to be waved down or we had to go the counter to ask for something. Usually I'd give this place praise on how good the food and service is but this morning I don't think we will be going back anytime soon.

Yelp
We came in when there was only one other table ordering. Took about 30 minutes and we only received half our food that was cold upon arrival. Another 20 minutes later we are brought duplicates of food we already have and are still missing sides. Waitress said she'd be right back but never came back. Went to hunt her down and our food was just sitting under the heat lamp. Paid over $30 for food we didn't eat and didn't even receive. Quality has gone way down hill in the past 2 years. Definitely won't be coming back anytime soon.

Yelp
I was in Gordon for a Funeral and i ate here several times. Unique little place and the food was excellent. Well worth stopping at. Love their take on philly cheesesteak sandwich.....comes with Au jus dipping sauce. Loved it!

Hank F.

Yelp
Great food, decent price, but the waitress was such a delightful sweetheart, as appraised by both my wife and me. We'd come back just to see her shy smile and engaging demeanor. Wish I would've got her name.

Yelp
We were on the way from Badlands to Nebraska and was hungry so we found this little cafe out of nowhere, once I walk in I know I will like the foods here because it just give me a feeling like home , the eggs was made just the way I like it , sausage links was juicy and first time to try the Indian taco which is not bad at all

Dan H.

Yelp
I usually try to stop here because there's nothing for several hours going east but today I was severely dissatisfied with my meal and the conditions.. the flies were everywhere and my bacon cheeseburger was dry and tasteless. I'm hoping that this is a anomaly because I really used to enjoy eating here. I have a theory of what has happened but that's just a personal opinion.

Yelp
Hungry? I was. Until I stopped in at this little Roadside Cafe. Absolutely great food. Especially for those just passing through. I ordered breakfast with a ham steak and eggs and the steak covered my entire plate at least 1/2 inch thick. Very good food. Good service. And a great atmosphere for those just passing through. I gave it five stars but I would give it one more if they had 6 DW

Rob S.

Yelp
This is a nice place to stop while traveling through, we were headed up to the Badlands area after visiting Chimney Rock and needed a place for dinner. This location had great comfort food to keep us full for the duration of our trip. The service was quick and the waitress was great. I would definitely recommend this place to all and will stop by again if in the area.

Yelp
Great little spot right off the highway. Friendly service. Exactly what you expect. Best breakfast in Gordon. I'll be back.

Bill H.

Yelp
The best breakfast on our recent 38-day see-the-USA road trip (back roads, no Interstates). We were driving from the tornados threatening near Kingsley Dam to show our respects at the Wounded Knee Massacre Site. And we were hungry. What nice people! We were soon engaged with staff and customers sharing road trip stories and enjoying our biscuits and gravy and eggs and taters and plenty of good hot coffee. America needs these small cafes and this is a good one.

Braegan R.

Yelp
They service was good and our waitress was very polite and nice the whole time. She gave us our food at a decent time and it tasted good

Madison F.

Yelp
Great place to stop & eat! The food was great. The apple pie with ice cream was AMAZING! Highly recommend!

Allie H.

Yelp
The service was great and the waitress was super nice and polite the whole time. The food was your classic cafe food and tasted great.

Yelp
Hey, if you're on HWY 20 in Nebraska this is a great place to rest and get some quality diner food. Friendly staff and a place where the entire town shows up on Sunday's to eat a early supper.

Yelp
Don't eat here. My wife was served raw chicken strips. When she sent them back, they brought them back in two minutes. They brought the chicken back on the same plate they had served it on the first time, with now-cold fries (also contaminated). They had just stuck the same chicken back in the fryer for a minute, then put it back on the plate!!

Yelp
Okay omlette, unappetizing hash browns offset by really nice rye toast. Flies.

Brady K.

Yelp
This place sucks. It took 30 minutes for the waitress just to get my drink, and then it took another 30 minutes to get my food. When my food did arrive, there was a long black hair cooked into my steak. I will never eat there again

Smith F.

Yelp
I would say this is definitely a breakfast restaurant, more-so than a dinner establishment. I personally thought the breakfast food was incredible, and if you get there before 7:30 am, they have a special you can get for half price. We also went to dinner once here on our trip, and just like two years ago, it left something to be desired. I absolutely understand that this is a small town and that it's a family business. The dining area is not very big, and not very fancy for the type of restaurant it is trying to be. The building has had other eating establishments occupy it in the past, and it just feels awkward inside when sitting down. Just fine for breakfast, but too weird for dinner time. Anyhow, my only complaints would be that during dinner time, they are understaffed. Could use at least one more person, if not two. (This was the case on both visits, two years apart.) One of the waitresses wasn't all that friendly, but maybe she was just too busy. Even though they were busy, let's keep in mind that even though the dining room was essentially full, there might have been 40 people there, and the food took FOREVER to get to our tables. And, the group that arrived just after us, received their food a good five minutes before us. The food was very good when it came, but when you have small children, it's hard to keep them occupied for that time. (Keep in mind, there are no "fast food joints" in Gordon, Nebraska.) All of that said, I am still going to give them 4 out of 5 stars, based on the food alone, with just the wait and mild unfriendliness dragging them down.

Yelp
Great breakfast! Crispy bacon was best I've had in ages. Frybread was great. Clearly a locals favorite too.

Yelp
If I could give this place negative 5 stars I would. I grew up in this town and have been going to this place ever since it opened 11 years ago. So when I moved back too town and I was approached by Darla to have my Girlfriend work here imagine my excitement when the opportunity to be able to enjoy this place and spend time with my Girlfriend! Only to have her tell me how awful it was to work there and how badly she was treated. It in all honesty broke my heart and I was also embarrassed because I basically talked my girlfriend into working here because of how "great" it is. Late night and a boss that will switch moods more than most small children switch toys they play with. Then after it became too much and she had to walk out because of false accusations of theft I find out that there are not only being lies spread about her I find out that it is all coming from the business owner herself. Very professional I must say.... I am not one to do this but I know if I did this in person it will do no good and you will literally learn nothing. Darla a little bit of advice fir you and your business 1. Treat your employees better than dirt and they will stick around. 2. Professionalism in the workplace is by far one of the most important traits a business owner or manager can show. 3. In the state of Nebraska it is technically illegal to have a waiter/waitress run a pod of 7. 6 is the max. 4. Correcting employees is supposed to be done in a a private place off the floor so you may help them grow as an employee and not make them want to quit. 5. Do not lie in a small town because it will get back too the person. You have burned through every person willing to work for you in this small town and lost my respect completely. This establishment is a nightmare to work for and I am so sorry to hear that. I'm also sorry to say I will never step foot in this establishment again.

Yelp
I am now retired. However, for about seven years I delivered cars and light truck all over the United States. I drove at least 110,000 miles a year, stayed in motel rooms about 320 nights and ate about a thousand meals in restaurants every year. I would sometimes be crossing Nebraska on US highway 20. I would always stop in Gordon, NE, at the Antelope Creek Café. This is a rather small café (about 40 seats or so). I always order their Chicken Fried Steak. They DO NOT grab a frozen overbreaded unit and drop it in the freezer. They take a fresh piece of cube steak, hand bread it and griddle fry it. It is a nice sized portion. Take your time eating your salad. Their meals are cooked from scratch and that takes a little longer than the production line places. (I always avoided getting there right at the dinner hour) But the wait is worth it. Great house made gravy, potato. veggie and roll. Nice people, Good service, Clean restaurant, fairly priced. Oh, yeah, their pie is super, but it sells out fast.
