We went during the early afternoon on a weekday and there was only one other table of two seated when we arrived. Upon entering, we were seated and were only told ‘cash only’ upon ordering. Tap water wasn’t allowed to be served - when queried, we were advised “I don’t know, it’s just what management has told us”. So one of us went to the cash point which the waiter said was 4 shops away, whilst the other waited and then we found out the nearest cash point charges 99p. We also took this chance to get our drinks as we refused to pay £1.49 for a plastic bottle of water.
2 empty plates were brought over, one being slightly chipped. The place felt a bit tired - perhaps because it wasn’t the cleanest…I only noticed I was sat on some dirty seats at this point. The drinks menu was also worn and not the cleanest.
Whilst my companion was still out, the waiter brought over some bread, a small serving of salad and some sauces. A nice touch, but what would have been nicer if they asked if they should wait until my companion came back. The bread was reheated bread - you could tell as it was cold and not as fresh tasting in the middle. I also found out later the party of three were being given the option of having their bread starter served with an alternative topping.
We ordered the platter and were told it would be around half an hour, which we expected. It was served with rice and wheat but no salad - the salad to start with was a very small amount and so more salad wouldn’t have gone amiss. The rice and bulgar was luke warm and it’s a good job I wasn’t here for just this - I didn’t touch any of it but my partner ate it just so it wasn’t wasted. The meat was flavoured & cooked to a great standard (ribs, wings, lamb Shish, chicken shish, 1 adana, and a bit of chicken & meat donner) - my only complaint is that the serving of both meat & chicken donner was extremely miserly. Another thing to note - their website notes the cost of the platter at £24.95 for takeaway and £27.95 for eat in yet the menu charge is £29.95.
The service was average. The couple who were there when we arrived had left whilst we were there and another party of 3 arrived before we left. I definitely wouldn’t say the experience was worth the almost £30, but at least the chef did a great job with the meat.
