"Anthem Vegan, a farmer’s market vendor since 2013 which also operated a pop-up out of a North Park parking lot, will open its first sit-down eatery this Saturday, February 3 on El Cajon Boulevard. The 100% plant-based restaurant takes over the space left vacant by Lil B’s; the nearly 4,000-square-feet building, built in the 1960s, has been refreshed and remodeled thanks in part to a successful Kickstarter campaign. Dedicated parking spaces will make picking up food to-go, ordered via an app, an easy transaction. Owner Patrick Murray says the larger kitchen facility has allowed him to re-add popular items from Anthem’s inception to the restaurant’s menu of vegan comfort food, co-developed with head chef Troy Oftedal. Known for its sandwiches, wraps, Mexican dishes and breakfasts featuring plant-based meat alternatives, Anthem Vegan will be expanding with more upscale dinner options, appetizers, salads and brunch plates. Beer and wine service will eventually be added. Open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the eatery will also feature a deli and market, which will offer vegan pantry staples and a number of items straight off the menu to take home. Murray tells Eater that he plans to develop a line of house sauces, as well as housemade plant-based meats and cheeses." - Candice Woo

Amazing restaurant! Really great vegan food, they know how to make everything tasty. I would recommend the flatrrita and the gangster wrap. These are my two favorites. The stuff was very nice and welcoming. I felt like the brunch menu on Sunday's needs some improvement but other than that we really enjoyed it!

Delicious food, friendly staff, and each plate is filling. If you want classic vegan dishes are a great price, Anthem Vegan is your choice. Be sure to buy a bottle of their in house salad dressing!

Finally! Patrick opened a brick and mortar restaurant to sell his awesome vegan comfort food. He's only been open for one week and I'm very glad to see that it was busy inside. There wasn't a long wait but people were waiting which is good for a new restaurant. The food is fresh and hot and savory and delicious. I ordered the beyond meat jerk burger and wifey ordered the chik'n cordon bleu. Both of them were excellent! They come with a small side of fries and a little tub of ketchup and it's the perfect size meal. Order the pineapple soda and get a sweet bubbly drink to wash down all the delicious Chow! Thank you guys will be back very soon.

First time and it was really good, my husband and I shared a sausager supreme and fluff cakes. The sandwich looked and seemed small to us but having the delicious fluffy cakes it was enough for the both of us. Can’t wait to go back and try something new.

Don’t mistake vegan for healthy. This place serves delicious, indulgent food for days you want something a little more comforting. Everything had great flavor and texture. I got the buffalo “chicken” wrap which came in a large portion with their house french fries. The fries were nothing special, just the standard. The mozzarella sticks were great but don’t expect the usual dairy texture. It was it’s own unique cheesy, oozy goodness.

This place is awesome! There is a little market inside that has some vegan essentials in case you ever need a few quick items. My fiance and I went around 2pm on Sunday for lunch and it was pretty packed. Waited about 15 minutes before we were seated at the bar. We got Insanity fries, carne asada tacos, fish tacos and a tuna melt and a brownie to go (fiance lifts so he eats a lot). They were all delicious! The fries reminded me of the carne asada tacos so don't get both if you're looking to get a lot of different tastes (they were still both delicious). The tuna melt was the best vegan tuna melt I have ever had... Definitely try it if you like tuna melts! Place is clean and staff was friendly. There is a parking lot but it's often full.. if it is there's plenty of street parking nearby.

I came here specifically to try the Impossible Burger and Beyond Meat patties on the menu. Both were prepared in a meat-focused fashion, and both were pretty good. That being said, I would omit the vegan cheese next time. Nothing against the restaurant, but vegan cheese still has a long way to go. Definitely will stop by again!

The food, staff, and decor are all great! The food came out very fast today (much faster than Sunday of opening weekend) and was all delicious!
