Woods Hill Pier 4 Opens in Boston’s Seaport District | Eater Boston

"An iconic waterfront institution that operated for roughly 50 years before closing in 2013, its legacy is honored in the new restaurant through old photographs and memorabilia and a nostalgic lobster Newburg riff that nods to the original menu." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

The only good Think about this place was the view in for almost $40. You got oily french fries a bunch of ketchup and hot dog bread with lobster. And not to forget about the entry sandwich bread. Prices of onions separated small pieces of lettuce carpaccios and very thin pieces of smoked salmon and you have to make a small sandwich with that terrible experience for my sons birthday.

Google
Historically a very good restaurant, with friendly service, but our meal was a big disappointment. The fried calamari was way overcooked and seemed to be made in a microwave. The taste of my Mahi Mahi dish was way off. The fish was way over seasoned, and the green beans tasted like they were cooked in dirty dish water. The best part of the dish was the buttery rice. I don't see us going back.

Eating at Pier 4 is always delightful. The restaurant is spacious, refined, quiet and a reminder of when people went out to dine, not just eat. A carpeted floor and soft ceiling means you can talk to your group in normal tone and not have to shout to be heard over the cacophony which characterizes many restaurants nowadays. Thankfully there are no TVs on the walls or music. The wait staff are nicely dressed in black and look as if they have been doing their work for many years, with not a jeans and tee shirt clad server in sight. The service is leisurely, so if you want a quick in and out go elsewhere. The views are incomparable. The menu is adequate but somewhat limited, being listed on a single sheet, giving the impression that they know what they do best (seafood in my view) and are sticking with it. The freebies ( popovers and mushrooms) are a nice touch. We always leave feeling happier than when we arrive.

Google
Save your time and don’t even walk into this restaurant. Extremely rude staff & they throw out your food when you ask to have it packaged to take it home. Food is a solid 0/10 . My jaw hurts the morning after from chewing the steak for so long. There is really nothing good about this restaurant. Extremely disappointing.

Google
Plenty of Parking, although as soon as I parked my car I guy came running over. Told me I can't park there then realized that I was parking there to go eat in the restaurant. Not Sure, why he didn't make sure first but... Not a good start for a first time there. The waiter was very dry! She wasn't rude but as close as you could be without being rude. The other waiters around us for the other table seemed very nice and well dressed though. Food was very good and so was the view from the outside table. Got to see a Great sunset while sitting right on a rocky cliff looking over the ocean.

Google
Once again one of my favorite restaurants ever... beautiful view of the ocean. Delicious popovers and marinated mushrooms before your meal. I always get baked stuffed lobster as I did at Anthony's Pier 4 in Boston. Always perfect - sweet and tender. Nice dining room with table cloths and staff dressed in tuxes. Bar is pretty - looks like a boat. Cocktails served with a sidecar in a silver bowl filled with ice. Very nice presentation and great service. Great for a casual lunch or a special dinner. Back for another visit....fried calamari is so delicious and tender. Best I've ever had.

We were visiting Boston and were very excited to explore this beautiful city. On our first evening, we decided to have dinner at this restaurant based on its good reviews on Google. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The host who greeted us was extremely rude, acting as if he were doing us a favor by seating us. He placed us at a dirty table with visible drink stains. When we politely asked for it to be cleaned, he responded with clear disdain. Rather than offering to move us to a clean table, he just started wiping it — and given how small the tables are, it felt uncomfortably close. Later, while we were waiting for our order, the same person started opening the window curtains. Instead of kindly asking us or the lady at the neighboring table to make room, he just rudely squeezed between us, without a word of apology. The only positive part of the experience was our friendly waitress and a decent glass of wine. Sadly, the overall atmosphere and treatment made us feel unwelcome. Definitely not what we hoped for on our first night in Boston.

Google
Excelent place to enjoy the sunset and views of Boston with exquisite sea food and the home bread with butter it's a magical touch for your dinner. Olga was our server and she was beyond! Excellent service and explanation about the wines and the menu. The wine was Greek and a perfect combination with the main course. I will definitely comeback and enjoy the lobster.

Yelp
Situated directly on the water, with a large parking area, and free valets, a nice aura greets diners first. The interior is elegant and the atmosphere gives the impression of a wonderful experience. Food is delicious! Marinated mushrooms and hot popovers (with no quantity restrictions) would have a great meal by themselves. Delicious cold butter pads melt wonderfully in those endless popovers. Drinks are beautifully prepared and served. Menu is extensive with daily specials also provided. Service is always impeccable. Prices are comparable to other lovely restaurants. This works well for a special occasion, nice date, or just a relaxing lunch or dinner. Very enjoyable all the way around!

Yelp
Such a shame the restaurant closed. It had very good food and an outstanding location.

Yelp
it wasn't as good as I expected it to be but they did have extremely fast service and the food was great it just wasn't what I was expecting the ambience was great maybe I just didn't order the right thing definitely will go back to see if I just had a bad choice that night

Craig B.

Yelp
There's nothing about this restaurant that was good. The food was absolutely terrible. Probably the worst we ever had. The service was awful and just weird and the ambience was like I was sitting back in the 60s and 70s. A relic of days gone by. I honestly don't know how this place even stays in business.

Alessandro B.

Yelp
We visited for the first time for my wife's birthday. The food was great but the waitress could use a little more training on how to talk to customers, and she could use a little more etiquette. When the bill came she charged us for an additional baked stuffed lobster. How do you make this mistake???There were 3 of us each with our own entree,I know mistakes happen but when I told her of the mistake, she never apologized first of all,she looked upset on top of it.She ruined a great night because the food was very good.

Yelp
Went there with my family to do a little celebration dinner for my 21st birthday. Wanted classy boujie kind of dinner and thought this was the place because it looked nice. Boy was I wrong. Staff were rude. Waitress was clearly upset about something or idk she was not having it that day. They did not try at all. Not sure if Trump being president suddenly encouraged some white people to show their racism but wow. Seriously did not expect the treatment we got from there. Unacceptable. Didn't even order food because it was not worth staying there. Ended up going to the restaurant next door "Mission on the Bay" spent $800 there instead because atleast they knew how to treat their customers. Warm welcome, excited to have guests, and took care of it all with a good attitude there. Unlike this place.

Yelp
Their lobster bisque is the best I've had. Great salad. Well made martini. I will go back soon.

Yelp
Lovely old well-preserved seaside restaurant, with delicious traditional recipes cooked to perfection., Swampscott has been blessed to have a restaurant with good food and a 180° view of the bay for over 50 years. Food 5/5 stars -We all agreed the lobster bisque is the best we have ever tasted anywhere in the US. Rich, creamy full of lobster taste. The clam chowder (New England style) rich and creamy with lots of quahog bits is also tasty. Meals come with huge pop-overs, rich and great with the large butter pat's provided. Then the entrees arrive and are all you hoped for when treading the menu. They are known for the amazingly good stuffed lobster-a good sized lobster & the stuffing has lots of additional lobster mixed with buttered crumbs -YUM! Almost too much for one person to eat! The cod is moist and baked just right -but be sure to order the sweet potato or another side with it unless you want a huge 8-ounce cup size scoop of plain white rice. The soft shell crab sandwiches are good, too, but not their best choice. We were too full to order the baked Alaska dessert even though we had originally planned to order some because it had been recommended and you can't find it on many menus. We will definitely try it next time. Service: 5/5 stars Old-fashioned excellent table service-pleasant, efficient, polite, helpful. Andre was a perfect server. Facility 4/5 Beautiful historic, romantic place to be at sunset-An older, but well-preserved seaside restaurant with large windows looking out onto the bay. There is a large roomy dining area, as well as a well-equipped bar (with windows on the bay, also). Parking is on the premises. Location -Short drive outside Boston away from the crowds, in a setting by the sea. Drive out here for a pleasant get-away from the crowded streets in Boston- if only got the lobster bisque, a glass of wine, and/or dessert.

Yelp
I had ordered the filet mignon medium but I received it cooked well done. This is a $75 steak on the menu I expect to get the food I ordered. I had to snack on the French fries that came with it even those were soggy.

Yelp
I have been here a handful of times now and especially since hearing they are going to be closing soon, my family wanted to check them out. As it is a large establishment, there usually isn't any problems with getting seated. Therefore, large parties are easily accommodated for including my part of 10 for my sister's birthday. For starters we have tried their lobster bisque and cream of mushroom soups. Both are very viscous and usually on the blander side. Using the fresh and hot popovers to dip make it better as well as the complementary marinated mushrooms. By the time the entrees come out, were already almost full. Entrees have included their fish and chips, chicken tenders and french fries, prime rib, 6 hour roast beef, salmon, haddock, stuffed shrimp, scallops and pan-fried crab cakes. Like the soups, everything appears to look decent, but the flavor just isn't really there. I did, however, really enjoy their plain white rice as it was lightly salted. We ordered a side of broccoli which came with hollindaise sauce as the only sides available with entrees are french fries, white rice, and a baked sweet or regular potato. The broccolis were massive and cooked to still have a crunch. But the hollindaise sauce was disappointing tasting mostly of butter. Prime rib was very salty which may be good for others. For desserts we tried their chocolate cakes with raspberry sorbet as well as the creme brulee. Chocolate cake may have been flourless because it lacked any sort of substantial chewiness to it. The creme brulee itself was very good having a perfect custard texture with the crystalized sugar on top. Overall, the service has always been exceptional as well as the view. The food itself could use some enhancements but you are paying for the other two reasons above. Although this isn't my first place to come back to, I will still most likely come again at some point.

Yelp
Great food and service. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable our dinners were superb

Yelp
Literally cannot wait for this stuffy old Relic of the northshore to close for good. Food is gross, place hasn't been cleaned in years, staff is rude. I even got a rash from the bathroom. What a disgrace

Yelp
Wow!! My daughter and I were on a trip together and we LOVED our experience at Anthony's! We sat outside and enjoyed spectacular views of Swampscott and Boston across the water sipping (maybe the best we ever had) cosmos - see photo. Then I asked for some of the house bread POPOVERS! Crispy AF - amazing. Our server was so sweet and attentive. Hope this place stays here forever.

Yelp
I am ever so grateful that Mission on the Bay's rooftop was not available due to private function. So we decided to go next door, which we never ever been. To my surprise it was actually cute and absolutely adorable. I felt very youthful considering majority w/o a doubt were older, wiser and absolutely beautiful! Atmosphere - not as I expected. I truly thought it was going to be very dated and a hole in the wall. Yet It's actually nice with incredible view of the ocean front, especially during sunset. Service staffs - at times I felt like I was at the Ritz. They were social, friendly and super nice. Food- lobster bisque is a must try. A creamy buttery sherry taste that you wanted to lick the bowl. Although I wish they would throw in more lobster bits. Baked oysters app, wow that was awesome as well. Baked stuff clams were so good. Loved the fact all of them were brought out nice and hot. The best part was their complimentary puff overs (along w/pickled mushrooms). Bartenders treated you like you were an A list celebrity! W/o doubt I'll be returning to their restaurant. Thank you for the great service and great food!

Yelp
Party of 5, three were celebrating their bdays. We didnt even stay for desert/ bday cake. Host was lovely. Waitress was downright nasty. Food was just 'ok' for the cost. Restaurant was not even busy. So sad. Their popovers are delicious. One star for the host and one star for the popover.

Yelp
Not to get all meta on you, but, face it, most Yelp reviews have limited utility regarding selecting a good restaurant, foodwise. Although everyone considers themselves to be a discerning food critic, they, well, are not. And fully 70% of negative reviews involve some sort of negative interaction with a staff member. This is going to be one of those reviews. Caveat Emptor. My family and I were looking for a special location for a milestone family event. We selected Anthony's. Seaside! Great North Shore reputation for my entire life! And "event" kinda old school restaurant. They advertise functions on their website! A great venue for 30 +/- attendees. What could go wrong? After booking what we thought was a function room months in advance, I decided to do a drive-by a couple of days prior to the event. The restaurant was open, so I asked to see the function room. It was apparently "the" part of the main dining room that is featured in the Yelp main photo. It could kinda/sorta be partitioned from the rest of the dining room. When I reminded the manager that we were going to have an acoustic string quartet, the manager/family member had a meltdown. He almost yelled, NO MUSIC! NO MUSIC! I walked out. As I was leaving, I noticed that the place looked dirty and tired, like the oldest airline terminal in your least favorite airport. We found another venue elsewhere with two days notice, but it was stressful. I'll leave you to guess whether there will be a return visit.

Yelp
We had my daughters baby shower here in a private room overlooking the water on a Friday evening. It was amazing...The room was lovely, and the views were spectacular. They let us arrive early to add our own touches to the decorations. The staff was so friendly, helpful and easy to work with. To begin the evening, we had a bar set up and a table with cheese, crackers, fruit etc. and delicious hot hors d'oeuvres were passed. Later came the fabulous buffet featuring giant shrimp cocktail and several hot selections. There was something for everyone's taste. We had coffee and they let us bring a cake for dessert. The evening was absolutely perfect!! I highly Recommend Pier 4 Cafe for your special event.

Yelp
Beautiful place for a wonderful meal with amazing views. I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Took my date there last night for Valentine's Day. Luckily, I was able to get reservations that day for 8pm. I'll be honest, going to new places as a black man there's always that thought in the back of your mind, "I wonder how we'll get treated here?". From the moment we arrived, everyone was very nice and welcoming. The host even asked if we didn't mind waiting a moment, he'd get us a table by the window...on Valentine's Day? Couldn't ask for better service there. The waiter was nice and attentive. When I asked him about the wine list, he admitted he was not well versed in the selection but would bring over a manager to assist. The manager, George, could not have been a nicer guy. My date described what type of wine she likes and George's recommendation was spot on! Wine was delicious and would definitely order again (it was the Chateau Montelena Riesling 2019). Not too sweet and not too dry. Nice, crisp, and refreshing which paired very well with our dinner. We started with the fried Calamari. Simply delicious! More calamari than breading which I like. I hate when you order fried seafood and you're eating more flour than fish. My date ordered the Lobster A la Hawthorne. It's a stuffed lobster with bread crumbs and baked potato on the side. The medium was more than enough. I ordered the Swordfish with Jasmin Rice. We also tried their amazing marinated mushrooms and hot out of the oven pop overs. The only thing that was disappointing about our dinner was the rice. Than again, I come from a culture that eats it everyday, so I have high expectations when it comes to good rice. Would try a different side next time. All in all, the service was impeccable. Everyone was so professional, but not robotic like some places. Made you feel like you were in one of those old school Italian restaurants and the Rat Pack are a few tables over. Waiter, host, manager, and door man were all great. I didn't go into the amazing view because at night, with the indoor lights, outside is not that visible. But let me tell you, when you finally do get a chance to look past the windows and you see this stream of city lights, nothing beats the view. Thank you Anthony's for making my last minute Valentine's Day plans seem like they were perfectly orchestrated. Not once did anyone make my date or I feel out of place or we were not welcome there. In fact, I was treated like was a regular. Loved it and would definitely go back. Sorry, Mission on the Bay, but we found our new restaurant by the beach.

Yelp
Excellent service from our two waitresses. Beautiful location, could see ocean from our table. Food was good but I would suggest you check menu prices before you order as they are rather steep.
google avatar

Kirill Z.

Yelp
With about only 4 guests in the dining room. We were greeted and sat. However once my father spoke with a foreign accent the demeanor changed. We were never greeted by a waiter no water was given and we were completely ignored. Mind you we had an infant with us and were treated like complete shit. If you're a person of color or speak with an accent you will be greeted with ignorance. This was the most distasteful experience and we didn't even get to try the food
google avatar

Lina S.

Yelp
I honestly don't even know what to write because we just got sat. That was about it. We got sat and waited. There was a table that sat after us and got greeted right away. We waited some more and then decided to just leave. This place needs to work together and be more attentive.

Neal N.

Yelp
Tried it tonight for first time. Terrible terrible terrible service and little response from management. No discount offered on our uncooked food or lack of service. An embarrassment of a restaurant. The only good thing was the view.

Toby S.

Yelp
Being from lynn and growing up in such a diverse city I never would've thought I would face discrimination and racism so close to home. Went there last Friday evening after looking at a car so I thought it would be nice for my girlfriend and I to enjoy a nice restaurant on the beach so we ended up at this spot. We were hungry and swept thru the reviews for this place (not so great) but because it was near dinner time and everywhere required reservations or was already booked we just decided to go here. Upon entering we are already getting the stares because of our appearance, doorman greeted us but looked us both up and down, the older gentleman that sat us didn't give up a drink menu maybe assuming our age. He sat us right in the middle of the restaurant surrounded by all empty tables meanwhile all the other guest had a window view of the ocean, mind you the place was pretty empty.. we sat for about 10-20 mins as two waiters kept walking by us while greeting new customers that came in after us. The staff was well aware that they were overlooking us as they kept making eye contact with me knowing I was becoming impatient. About 25 mins in we decided to leave before we can even stand the older gentleman from the front desk rushes over to try to get us to stay knowing the service we have not been serviced with. We left and went to Blue Ox which was by far was more delicious. Overall I was displeased by the behavior of this place both customers and staff. Do better

Yelp
We are and have been regulars for Years. Food is great as is the service Pineapple and vodka starter and We are crazy about their popovers, mushroom , Scallops, steak And salmon But Save Your Appetites BAKED ALASKA IS ESSENTIAL. Da

Yelp
Great place for sea food and family time. Lobster was great and my son loved it. There bread is great with butter.
google avatar

Ted D.

Yelp
We are not regulars at Anthony's/Hawthorne so let me preface that. We have now been twice in the last few weeks and had excellent experiences each time. On one occasion I had the $29 Lobster a la Hawthorne special with a side baked potato and everything was excellent. The lobster (1.5#) was delicious and the stuffing was great. My wife had the $40 three course special with the filet and it was cooked just right and tasted great! We had great service as well from both the wait staff and the gentleman at the host stand. Wow! Partner that with the excellent view, and we had a really great night. Plus the price was a great bargain considering everything we had! We had another great experience a few weeks before that on the back porch and got to enjoy sunset back there with baked clam appetizer and dinner. I had the grilled swordfish with sweet tomato and onion relish. YUM! We enjoyed our recent experiences greatly and look forward to continuing to visit.
google avatar

Catherine W.

Yelp
Ricky my server, along with the location makes it a 4 not 3 star restaurant. Sadly, the place was empty at lunchtime; it is probably my 10th visit. The oysters were fresh and came quickly. My steamers took a long time and were sandy and gritty. As a person who does actually dig her own clam sometimes, I know how to purge them. My steamers were a disappointment. I keep coming back but today was my last time. The popover was over cooked.

Ermal G.

Yelp
Wife and i went over for dinner to Anthony's this past Friday. We had not been at there in a few years but we were amazed by the food and reminded of this gem in the Northshore. For appetizers we had smoked salmon, crab cakes and oysters. Dinner was baked stuffed lobster. Anthony's smokes they're own salmon in-house. The oysters were amazing fresh and big in size. Hard to pick the favorite on what we ordered. The baked stuffed lobster is a must have. Hands down the best lobster in years. Great service, relaxing ambiance and worth the hour drive from Quincy. Can't wait to go back there!

Yelp
We had a 6:30 reservation with a request for a window table. We arrived early so had a drink at the bar. The bartender was friendly and made a great martini. When the host led us to our table a row back from the window although there were ample window tables available. Our waiter was good, although we did have to ask a coworker to send him over. Our biggest complaint/disappointment was our dinner. We both ordered the prime rib special. The $39.95 price seemed steep, but we figured the serving would reflect the price. Boy were we wrong!! The serving was at best the equivalent of the smaller cuts we've had at other restaurants for $10-$15.00 less! In addition it was on the tough side. There's no beating the location and view, but I don't think we'll be returning any time soon.

Yelp
5-star view, 4-star service, 3-star food, 2-star ambience. This place is quite dated and stuffy; seriously needs a facelift. Extensive wine list, but could use some good beer. Our crab cake appetizer was good and my husband loved his smoked salmon, but the homemade bread was really undercooked and my lobster ravioli was heavy. The location is a gold mine. With the right updates on the decor and menu, this place would be fantastic!

Billy L.

Yelp
Never goes out of style. Marinated mushrooms, hot popovers, lobster bisque, glover salad, New York sirloin with bernaise sauce and baked Alaska. They don't make places like this anymore! My only suggestion is to ditch the doorman. His job is to open the door, but his time is spent playing on his phone. Having him there serves so purpose. It's just awkward walking by him. Maybe he is a relative of the owners?

Michael G.

Yelp
My wife and I dined there for the 1st time on December 14th @ 7pm. We will definitely go back. We ordered the clam chowder (excellent) Baked stuffed Shrimp and the large Baked stuffed lobster. Both were cooked perfectly. Generous amount of butter. With baked potato and house made French fries. I almost forgot, they serve "Popovers "!! Vodka martinis-very nice. Service was great. Everything was as good as Boston restaurants such as Atlantic Fish and Ostra.

Robin H.

Yelp
One of the worst meals I have ever had. My husband got the boiled lobster and it was cut down the middle and a little bread crumbs on it. When looking, all the freakin tail meat was gone. Nothing. 60.00 for two claws. I had baked stuffed shrimp. Bread crumbs were like sawdust and so dry. When walking in (I had made a reservation for a window seat) I told the gentleman what my reservation was for and that I wanted the window and his response was, "we do the best we can" wtf. We sat in the middle of the restaurant and mind you the restaurant was not busy at all. If I could give no stars I would. Tell your friends that you can get a better meal and less expensive in Turners. Robin Hurley

Yelp
Formerly known as Anthony's Pier 4 Restaurant. Having dined here several times I can honestly say the Fish and overall good is always very well prepared and is consistently delicious. My favorite dish is the Halibut which is a very clean tasty fish... My personal favorite! The waitstaff are a little on the less personal side as Anthony's has an aire of upper-class dining. Our waitress was excellent and very friendly and personable her name was Cassandra! Great food! Great service!

Donna V.

Yelp
We were excited to be dining with an ocean view and the sun setting in the background. We had a lovely cocktail and started on our wedge salad and clam chowders, both were good. Sadly...It went all downhill from there. I ordered the scallop special, without realizing it was the special, it was delicious, but not worth $49. My husbands swordfish and rice were both cold and tasteless. When mentioned this to the waitress, she apologized and offered to bring him some French fries. I am not sure how that helped with the cold tasteless slab of pre frozen fish. But I figured she was just too new at the job to know it was probably time to offer another meal or get the manager involved. After dinner I ordered a cappuccino, and was told the frother was broken, and opted for an espresso with cream on the side. It was the worst tasting espresso I have ever had... barley touching it. Unlike my husband, I never complain and say anything about a bad meal...I always try to find the good in the experience.... but this was hard to do and even I couldn't leave without letting the manager know. The manager said he was sorry, and that it was strange that no one else had complained. He would comp my husbands swordfish, but I have yet to see this on credit card bill. Then he reiterated that no one has ever complained about the swordfish being cold and tasteless, and walked away. I had such high hopes for this dinner, having breathtaking views and a name I thought I could trust. I grew up visiting Anthony's Pier 4, the General Glover and Hawthorn by the Sea on special occasions. I had always enjoyed these finer establishments. I have never been so disappointed, or felt so ripped off, and flabbergasted by the poor response from management ... the whole experience was atrocious. The name shouldn't even be associated with the fond memories I have from the real Anthony's Pier 4!

Yelp
Went to grab some grub after spending a few hours on the beach. Was approached in the parking lot by the "door man" informing us we could not enter because we had tank tops on. You are a restaurant located ON THE BEACH...really? Truly embarrassed for you.

Mark C.

Yelp
I was actually very surprised to see a lower than average rating for this place. We had an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The chowder was excellent, the crab cakes delicious, and the baked lobster was simply amazing. The "poppers" (bread) was worth the experience alone. Will be back

Yelp
My best friend was getting a sweater out of the trunk of my car when she was approached by the parking attendant/door man, I didn't hear the interaction but she said that she thought she was being "catcalled by a homeless person" so was trying to ignore him, until he was close enough and yelling at her so she couldn't ignore him any longer. He was yelling that we couldn't park there because he assumed we weren't eating at the restaurant and said that he was going to call a tow truck "for the third time today". I couldn't hear the interaction but his body language was terribly aggressive, I didn't even hear his voice and i wanted nothing to do with this place so needless to say we were both put off and left. I feel unfair leaving a review for a restaurant that I didn't eat at but I've never had a more unusual experience with staff, he didn't even attempt to approach us and ask if we were eating there. Perhaps the only thing this restaurant is good for now is it's completely empty parking lot, and the staff has subconsciously adjusted their hospitality to guarding it's only asset?

Yelp
Went for reservations for a nice dinner for Mother's Day and boy what a nightmare! Worst service and not even by the waitress! The owner/manager needs to get a LIFE! I specifically asked for the dining room seating and was seated in the tavern. After some choice words with the manager/ owner he agreed to set a different table in the dining room. We decided to not bother and sat in the tavern at a nice table at the windows- now comes the fun part- our waitress albeit nice, forgot all our salads, brought my son in laws seafood platter that was dried up overcooked as well as skimpy but we attempted to make the best of it. My son in law had a heated argument with the manager/ owner on the way out to the point of yelling. The owner/manager Embarrassing not only himself but my family. Shame on him!!!!! You never treat a customer that way!! His parting words were "don't come back" thankfully we won't!!!!! We spent good money for a party of 6! Which will be spent at Mission On The Bay from now on!!!! Date of visit: May 2019 Hawthorne By-the-sea

Yelp
So happy to see this North Shore jewel back open. Backed stuffed lobster was not only outstanding - it was on special for $29.00. Excellent meal as always. The filet was cooked to perfection - nice sear and temp.

Yelp
I love this place. We use to go to the Boston locations. This is very similar as far as the menu. I like the view here better. They are running a lobster special which was delicious. We will be back again.

Yelp
After a long, exhausting but awesome week at work, I figured I'd treat myself to a nice seafood dinner. As always, I checked Yelp to see what would fit the bill in my area. Just down the road, by the water in Swampscott, I found this place. Figured I'd check it out. First off the place is huge, and has a beautiful view of the water and Boston in the background. I felt like I went back in time to an expensive restaurant from the 1970s, and I mean that in the most positive way. Sat at the bar with Dandre, very nice gentleman in an old-school red tuxedo.I felt a little under dressed but he made me feel right at home. I decided to start off with baked clams Ala Anthony. I sipped on my grey goose and enjoyed the view while I waited for my appetizer to arrive. When it came ,it was accompanied by some complementary marinated mushrooms which was an awesome touch, and, get this, a pop over! Again talk about old school fancy, but both were very good. You could tell the mushrooms were marinated in house and the popover was so light and airy when I added the butter, it just melted in my mouth. This is something I'd love to see on other restaurant menus again. For my entrée, I decided on the baked stuffed shrimp with a baked potato and after a nice amount of time I was delivered a plate with four huge shrimp with their shells on,covered in a rich buttery crust, with fresh drawn butter on the side. Beautifully plated and presented I might add. This was a wonderfully indulgent meal. The only caveat I will add is it is quite pricey but well worth it. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Why this place doesn't have massive crowds is a mystery. We had the worlds best REAL fish chowder. The finest black bean soup. The view and the white table cloth table along with popovers!!!! Wine was just OK. I have had better there. Love this place.

Yelp
I really want to love this place because it's an institution and an extended family favorite. But it's also really tired, well past its glory days and nobody there seems to care. The room has an amazing view of the Boston skyline. The decor could use some attention. There are places where the carpet is coming up and the lobster pool looks dirty. The staff are very friendly. Service is very slow. I put this on the shoulders of management who should be giving them more support. I saw my entree sitting on a counter for ten to fifteen minutes waiting for someone to bring it to me. The popovers are amazing--and might actually be worth the visit. (Why don't more restaurants have these?) Otherwise, the food is kind of tired like the room. I had a wedge salad that apparently was taco-themed which was unexpected and not very successful. I ordered a steak which was way overdone. Vegetables generally seem to be considered an afterthought Would love to see someone buy this place and restore it to its full glory and charm.

Yelp
Great place for a leisurely lunch with my mom. Good parking, great view of the water, quiet. We love the popovers and the lobster rolls.

Yelp
Food was ok. I feel violated for what we paid for lunch. 100. Tiny portions Rice tasted like it was cooked in ocean water Place is filthy. Stained carpets, cob webs sold crappy tables. Decor from 1981. Place has nice views and needs a complete makeover to charge these prices. Even wait staff seems to be from 1981. It was like a time warp. We won't be back sadly

Yelp
Upscale dining facing the water with views of the Boston skyline in the distance. The pace was slow, albeit a Sunday, and the food offerings were pretty decent. They have an extensive raw bar with 5 different types of oysters. I opted for the curried fried oyster small plate (enough for a meal if you get another appetizer or soup). It came with a cucumber-cilantro sauce that was a nice touch, but it could have used more. The fried oysters, even with the sauce, didn't have much flavor, so I added some Tobasco, which helped a little. The lobster bisque was quite filling and full of heavy cream. I think they overdid it too much, but more buttah more bettah, and the same goes for cream in my book. Or like one of my co-workers mentioned, "You want an even coating of fat around the heart." If that wasn't appetizing enough, the scallops and shrimp dish with pasta from the Specials menu was also so deliciously creamy and full of succulent, melt-in-your-mouth pieces of scallop. After the meal, you can walk along the beach (if the weather permits it) and begin to try working off all that food, but it probably won't even make a dent!! So worth the calories as I'd rather be fat and happy.

Yelp
The views from both the bar area and dinning room are incredible. We stopped here for a drink and an appetizer on a Sunday afternoon. Here is my take: 1. Atmosphere is awesome. A+ 2. Parking is readily available A 3. Food is decent but given my limited sample take this with a grain of salt. A- 4. Drink pours; sound. A 5. Service: Slooooowwwwww! This is the only real draw back. C+ Overall if you are willing to wait a bit and enjoy the view; a visit here is worth it.
