St. Paul’s Tavern on Grand Restaurant Is Closing | Eater Twin Cities

"Among the retail closures on Grand Avenue, Anthropologie’s shutdown was mentioned as contributing to reduced foot traffic and the changing character of the street that local businesses say has hurt their business." - Justine Jones

Google
This store has horrible customer service, the second I walked in I saw the employees walking around just staring and watching what I picked up without saying a word or checking up on me. However, another customer walked in, a white woman with her daughter, and they immediately welcomed them by saying “hello ladies!” I was planning on buying several things but the lack of good customer service completely changed my mind. I believe this was also racially motivated as I am a hispanic woman and these actions were very noticeable.

Very cute stuff, clean stylish place, loved the atmosphere..but nobody welcomes customers entering the store nor saying bye to who is leaving The prices was over even with the sale still high

Just speaking on my bridal appointment experience: My friend and I came here to their bridal section to look at wedding dresses. We worked with Katherine and she was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. She was knowledgeable, not pushy, helpful, and really integrated seamlessly with our vibe. She let us know about available options, sizing, typical procedures. In the end, we ended up purchasing a dress, but it was because we wanted to, not because we felt Fdrced or pressured. Everyone in the bridal section was friendly and helpful. We had a great experience and I will recommend going this route to any future brides.

Google
Came here to fine my wedding dress and was helped my the amazing bridal consultant Sara. While I didn’t end up getting my dress from here, they had a beautiful selection of bridal gowns and wedding shower/ reception dresses. The environment was fun and uplifting, the served champagne and water to my guests, and Sara did such an amazing job at helping narrow down what dress style I loved! I can’t tell you enough how wonderful this experience was, and I will be coming back to get my wedding shower dresses soon!

Today was my first time in a long time walking in to a brick and mortar Anthropologie store, and the customer service experience was very disappointing. I was trying to get a better look at a wedding dress and the associate yelled at me for moving it. I wasn't aware that it wasn't allowed, and it was very embarassing to be talked to in that way. There are more professional ways of letting people know that something is not allowed. Visual signage would also be helpful.

I cannot believe that an item that went on sale could not be exchanged for the sale price. I shop here too much and I'm surprised they wouldn't help me with this. It's 50 less now and brand new! Why not let me return and repurchase? They said I could but not until tomorrow! What kind of policy is that?

Yelp
This is the best anthro location! While they didn't have my size in the cutest cheetah print pants i have ever seen, they were so helpful on helping me order them! Lori is the nicest person ever and I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Just discovered this store has an area for bridal wear. Beautiful window treatments catch your eye as you walk into the store filled with fragrant smells and colorful garments in the store. The store is easy to find in the heart of City Centre off I10 . Make sure you make an appointment with bridal if needed as they book up quickly and will not accept any walk-in appointments. Parking : available for paid parking Customer service: friendly Return : likely

Yelp
As a loyal Anthropologie customer for over a decade, I never expected to encounter such heartless staff at the City Center location. On Memorial Day afternoon, an older, short-haired woman in a white blouse stood idly behind her counter--with no customers in front of her--yet deliberately delayed assisting me. She merely gave me a fake smile. I waited until a younger female clerk finished helping her current customer before attending to me. I asked if they could adjust the price for my recent purchase, she seemed willing to help. But then, the short-haired woman abruptly interrupted, coldly refusing without hesitation. She even claimed, "Even if you return it, store policy forbids repurchasing it the same day." Even if that were true, no customer wants to be spoken to in such a harsh tone--without so much as an apology! If you're going to discriminate against customers, you have no business working in retail!

Yelp
There isn't ANY customer service. No one to help And you get barely any communication from the cashier. I'm shocked. Good products but customer service on phone or in the store are non existent

Yelp
I never met an Anthropologie I didn't like. My Mom, sister, and I are addicted to this place! We love the well made clothes! They are priced a little high but nowhere near high end brands. The best thing about the clothing is they last for a long time. They have great resort and vacation wear. They also offer pretty and unique purses, shoes, jewelry, and sleep wear. I actually saw a sleep dress today that I would wear to the beach but I didn't buy it. I do like that staff is plentiful and are accommodating. They also have very nice beauty products and perfume. Their perfumes are so feminine and delicate smelling. They sell housewares that is so nice and a plethora of great smelling candles. I always get their great dessert scented candles and on occasion the smoky smelling ones. Great shop!

Yelp
Great for skinny women that weigh less than a 100 pounds not body shaming....- the pottery and dishes are nice I snagged some dessert cheese plates. Portugal ceramics are a plus IMO. In the past I have bought lovely handbags and wool coats made of quality sustainable not plastic fabrics. Most of the trendy items were made in China, grrr, clothing appeared cheap and not wardrobe staples. My bad for thinking items should be worn for more than one season. If teens and college girls have mega bucks this is a place for them. Not currently lovely clothes I have purchased from past shopping experiences are present,

Yelp
staff were snarky and selectively said hi to only certain ppl walking in. the stuff is all wicked overpriced.

Yelp
Overpriced weird clothes.... Or maybe I am just cheap and unfashionable. My husband and I looked around this place and couldn't believe the hideous clothing here. What was more shocking than the uber ugly threads was the price of said clothing. $128 for a blouse that has about a zillion colors and two zillion different patterns all on one garment... What a steal! Of the few pieces that actually look decent, the price wasn't worth it. $58 for a graphic tee... I'll pass. $280 for a dress. I'm good. Maybe I'm being too harsh. It just feels like they're trying too hard to be unique and it'll cost you a pretty penny.

Yelp
I have been to this location several times over the years so I will start off by saying that the treatment I have always received from this location is not at the fault of the current manager but rather the fault of the continuous racist culture that has been passed down from employee to employee. To sum it up, my last experience here was my last straw. I walked in, after having a last minute issue with my dress for a wedding that day. As I walked in, I saw two employees at the front who did not acknowledge me yet they acknowledged the woman who walked in before me (it was obvious that we were not together). Already off to an annoying start. I walked around the store for 15 minutes, looking for a dress to grab and get out with as I had a wedding in 4 hours to head to. Every time I locked eyes with an employee, she would turn around and walk away. It shouldn't matter how I was dressed but I was dressed just fine in a FP dress. I got so frustrated that no one was acknowledging me yet I could see them helping other customers or hanging out at the registers and chatting. I ended up pulling a poor girl aside who told me that she worked for the BHLDN side and telling her my experience. She offered to get me help but I declined as I knew my time in the store was ending. I was disgusted. After grabbing a top that I knew would work with a skirt I already had, I headed to the registers and was not greeted, once again. The cashier 210792 motioned me like a child to the register. She then asked for my number for the rewards and THAT WAS IT. DID NOT ASK ME IF I FOUND EVERYTHING OKAY, DID NOT ASK ME IF ANYONE HELPED ME. I was shocked. SHOCKED!! Barely looked at me or spoke to me. I was so humiliated at this point. As I was checking out, I watched as not ONE but TWO employees help a woman in ratty blue sweats and a white tee and thought to myself, "wow, cannot be my clothes that's preventing these employees from treating me like a paying customer/human." I grabbed my bag and left, tearing up. I got to my car which was parked right outside and called the manager. After explaining how upset I was, the first thing she asked was "did you buy anything" and I regretted saying yes. She told me that she would reiterate the company policy to all employees and that she would like me to come back and shop so they could give me the experience I wanted. I told her that I would not be coming back to spend my money at a store that doesn't respect me. It is 2022 and I tread very lightly when it comes to what I will say next but it must be said. I was the only non-white customer in there. and I was the only one who was not helped. I was treated like trash. This is not my first time at this location where I have been treated like I don't exist but it is my last. I am not one to leave reviews, especially a scathing one like so but I cannot let go of how I was treated. I ended up wearing something else and returning my item to another location because I was so disgusted by it.

Yelp
This was my personal experience with this store. On Sunday, July 28, 2019 between the 12:30-1pm myself (African-American female) and my dear friend Jennifer and her daughter who are both Caucasian entered the store. During this time the store wasn't busy do to the fact that it just opened at noon. We both split up to perusing the aisle looking for a bargain. We met up somewhere by the scented lotions and soaps. Jennifer mentioned that she needed to use the facility. I told her when you find it let me know because I needed to go as well. Time passed 10 minutes top we run into each other again and I'm like well did you find it and she said yes an employee took me. I find the closest sales associate (short straight black hair, wearing a cropped black jacket) I asked wear the restroom was her response to me "we don't have a public bathroom and I would have to go across the way to Bellagreen I believe they have a bathroom I could use. I was completely shocked!! Needless to say at this point I was ready to leave the store mad, upset, and totally frustrated. The three of us left the store looking for a place to have lunch. I'm like I need to use the bathroom and Jennifer says I thought you got the key in the store. I told her no I didn't the sales associate told me they didn't have one and I would have to use it at Bellagreen. Her reaction was speechless couldn't believe that she was able to use the bathroom and I wasn't. My friends and I are at lunch my appetite has now left trying to figure out what to do next because I can't let this go! Later that afternoon at 4:29pm, I called the store I to get the name of the sales associate. A lady answered the phone without addressing who she was then she proceeded to say that her name is Aubrey and she's one of the managers on duty. Aubrey was reluctant to give me the name until I told her what happened earlier that afternoon. The sales associate I spoke with earlier her name is Arantza. Aubrey tired to apologize for what happened and gave me a reason about we don't have a public restroom not having enough managers on duty which really doesn't make any sense to me the customer. Needless to say I will never shop or support anything to do with Anthropologie.

Yelp
I wandered in to Anthropologie on a day of window shopping. A striking red dress displayed in the window caught my eye. Immediately, I was greeted by a sales associate and a wonderful aroma! When I asked the name of the candle that was burning, the young woman told me the resulting scent was the result of several different candles burning throughout the store. Although a bit disappointed, I wasn't too surprised. This is usually the case. But, I did find the candle which released the dominant scent, Volcano. I'll be back to buy Volcano-scented lotions, candles, and anything else I can find. LOL The clothes are unique and trendy. Even though they are a bit pricey but they do look nice, in my opinion.

Houston Resident A.

Yelp
Worst experience ever. They refuse to process returns even the item came damaged. This is not the customer service I expect Anthropologie provides. I have reported this store making up polices and making return so difficult.
google avatar

Yelp
I am a guy so I don't buy clothes here. I don't buy any house ware, windows treatment, stationery, or anything here as my wife wouldn't approve anything of that sort if I purchased them by myself. The only thing I bought here by myself was candles by Capri Blue. The specific scent was Volcano. And the only reason for that was because my wife asked me to buy it with my birthday discount, a 30-percent discount. My typical experience was good. I would walk in and the sales person would greet me and ask if she could help. I would then tell her about buying candles. She would tell me where they shelved them. I proceeded to grab a few of them and paid for the candles. My wife always told me to get boxes so that we can put the candles in them and hand them as gift. There was no need to wrap. Sometimes we asked for bags as well. Again, their bags were nice and we don't have to buy gift bags. The staff were cool and very generous with boxes and bags. If I were alone I would be in and out in about 5 minutes, 10 mins top. If I were with my wife, well, it could take an hour or more. I rated Anthropologie a 4. Even though nothing here really interested me, but the staff here were always nice except one who was in a bad mood during the past holiday rush.

Yelp
This is the adult version of Urban Outfitters. I was skeptical at first but I think my gf has turned me. I am officially a fan. Maybe just because I like things that make her happy. Their home furnishings are very interesting. The clothes seem to fit my gf well, it's a bit expensive but not out of the question.

Yelp
Like I said about my other Anthropologie review at Highland Village, I love this store so much! Just the name of this place sends me bouncing off the walls. I love this new location! It's so much roomier and very organized. The people are great, the items are amazing. I can't ever resist not going into this store. Question: Am I the only person that can't 'check-in' into this place? :(
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Can we say...shoe sale??? Omg, the only store in town that has it - much bigger than the Highland Store location (hint hint...think expansion?) When I enter, I feel like a girly girl with rufflles and bows...think Secrets of a Stylist. I head straight for the Sale section and usually find a good deal - $40 for grey/brown suede sandal platforms, $100 for nude leather/linen pump platforms...Heaven! Best way to look like you've lost 10lbs!!! They have a good selection of gift items (candles, pillows, doorknobs). I wish they carried bigger sizes though, things tend to run very small (like European sizes). I joined their card, so if I lose my receipt, can return items anytime without hassle.

A. W.

Yelp
I normally shop at Highland Village but occasionally shop at this location as well when going to West Elm. Reading the articles coming out about company policy, I immediately thought of this location: https://apple.news/A1yP3IoR9QLyVU5yzLfj0oA My last trip to this store was with my teenage niece - browsing to see if she was interested in anything. Two particular associates followed us every where we went and anything that I picked up, asked to put it at the register "to help me." When my niece and I were looking at different things, two folllowed I had felt this way at this store before but that particular day it was obvious. I'm writing this review with hope that as the company has to review their policies, they can focus on stores where this is most an issue. As said above, I've never felt such in Highland Village.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Disappointed. Went to return a Christmas gift that didn't fit, and ran into Anthro's unforgiving Return Policy. After failing to find anything comparable to exchange, had to settle for something not needed that cost $40 more than the gift. Just to avoid throwing it away compLetely. Terrible experience.

Yelp
So, there's a show on The Sundance Channel called Man Shops Globe http://www.sundancechannel.com/man-shops-globe/ Have you seen it? It's about a man who shops flea markets in France for a living. This "man" is the buyer/designer for Anthropologie. (Fabulous job, yes?) That's right, shabby-chic-brand-new really is shabby-chic-flea-market-refined-and-retuned. Nothing wrong with that. The clothes are uber uber cute. But golly the furniture and home-wear prices. As an artistically inclined person, I have to keep reminding myself of a few gems (ie junk shops) in Houston, where I can find even more eclectic pieces...if I want to search and have a project. When I need my quick fix, I head to Anthropologie. I really love Anthropologie. I'm not certain how I feel about this location, however. It seems a bit cold compared to the Highland Village shop. There's too much airy blank space. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, I mean, I didn't feel like I was going to pass out from a seizure of indecision and TOO MUCH TO LOOK AT IN A SMALL SPACE like the Highland location. It is just airy with negative space. Also, it is even set up like a flea market with stalls. More organic than this, but I get what they're going with here. It's meant to make you wander haphazardly, look at everything, and hopefully buy something. I like order and logic in a non-junk shop. I want to have all of my options laid out in front of me, I don't want to search the store for mugs and plates or sale items. I want the clothes grouped into one area, not haphazardly in enclaves. I found some cute (C.U.T.E.) sweaters and dresses and headed to the dressing rooms. Ick. It is a big cavernous room. No couches. No hidden clothes racks. It's echo-y and white. There is a round lounging bench, but the attendants were using that as a clothes pile pedestal as they rehung unwanted clothes. Did I mention the echoing? I had to hear a lady say everything three times in her nasally voice. If I'm in the area (eating Korean food on Long Point or if a Lucky Brand Jeans shop and J Crew pop up in City Centre [sic]), I would venture back to this locale. Otherwise, I really love the Highland Village location so much more. Just a note on parking, don't bother driving past the parking garage to look for street parking. Not worth it...even when it's 40 degrees outside.
google avatar

Kristine H.

Yelp
This location is so much better than the Highland location. Everything is just more pleasant. Parking is easier. There's more space. And the employees actually smile and make eye contact with you! In the dressing rooms, they usually take the time to ask how's it going and give a pointer or two. Since there's less customers going thru here in comparison to Highland, there's a much better sale selection. That's the only time I buy stuff at Anthropologie.
google avatar

Yelp
I love the store, always smells fresh and clean. The staff is friendly enough, however their customer service is not wow me like their store decoration. The waiting line for check out is always busy or takes a long time. I don't know why there are many attendances in the store, but everytime i checked out, there was only 1 to 2 people at the counter, and that made the process very painful. Waiting for over 10 minutes with just 3 customers in line, not so good. Overall, this location is very convenient if you are in City Centre and a good place to wander around and refresh your mind because the store is always nice and changes its decoration and layout pretty often.
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
I hate being a cliché write-a-review-cause-you're-angry person, but on multiple occasions workers at this location have completely ignored me and let their friends skip in line. I said "excuse me" to a worker behind the counter (obviously the place to go to avoid helping customers) after patiently waiting and looking around the store for a single floor worker for 10 minutes straight. Nada. Now to talk about this occasion specifically, when I first entered the store there was no line and since I had to frantically search to ask one quick question about the availability of a certain towel set, the line suddenly grew to 15 people long and all the workers magically appeared to help check people out. Tired of patiently waiting and searching, I walked up to a worker not currently at a register aimlessly fumbling with tissue paper to obviously avoid any real work and said "excuse me". Right at that moment, a woman ran up to her, pointed her finger at me and touched the worker's shoulder and said "si vous plait" and the worker instantly walked with the woman to god knows where where they chatted for god knows how long. I resigned to waiting in the now enormous line just to ask an inventory question and to my wonderful surprise, a woman cut directly at the front of the line where the line splits with a worker looking directly at her. Hmmm. This was the last straw and I will never, ever bring my frequent Anthro business to this laughably unprofessional location again. Should learn a thing or twelve from its Austin locations.
google avatar

Natalie D.

Yelp
I love this location. It's closer to where I live and I feel as if the selection is much larger than the Highland Village location. Also, the store is more organized and the people that work here are friendlier. The only bad thing is that some of the items are way overpriced for what it is. Some of it looks like you just got it from a garage sale or Forever 21 and is NOT worth the $128 or so price tag. Other than that, I like the cute tops I find here once in awhile. Today they had a bunch of sales racks lined up in the front and it was organized and neat, not chaotic and messy like I usually see it. Yay! I'm a fan.
google avatar

Pam B.

Yelp
I am in *love* with this store. Growing a little older my fashion has had to mature/evolove along with my age. Sure I still find occasional finds at Forever 21 & Urban Outfitters but this is like the grown up woman version of these stores. Every employee here is super friendly, the store is huge (and smells good!) and the clothing, jewelry & accessories are to die for. My only small gripes are: this place is expensive (but hey, good fashion aint cheap!) and the sale selection is small. For the really good deals I tend to do mainly online shopping but I still simply adore this store and its location.
google avatar

Jody S.

Yelp
One of my favorite stores! Everyone is warm and friendly, and the items are pleasantly displayed. The smell of the store is intoxicating, and the window displays always draw me in. I can always find something for a unique gift, and of course something I did not know I could not live without! Checkout is always slow, and the store itself is very pricey, however I just cannot stay away.

Yelp
Thanks to one of my BFFs, I am now an Anthropologie addict. And thanks to the new City Centre location - which is down the road from our office, I am suffering some kind of shopping sickness. Yes, I admit .... I have a problem. I'm not addicted, I'm obsessed. I think I have to go to some AAA (Anthropologie Addicts Anonymous) meeting to say, "Hi, my name is Leila, and I'm a shopaholic." Now to be brutally honest, my wardrobe channels the 90's vampy look that was soo popular back them. The only things missing are the dark purple lipstick and matching nail polish. Nowadays, thanks to my recent obsession with Anthropologie, I'm buying bright reds and blues, heather greys, and kelly greens. What is this world coming to? I bought a kelly green dress with blue turtles. Oh my ... I seriously don't know what I've been transformed into. While I'm a true bargain hunter with borderline hoarding tendencies, I can't help but listen to some of the new styles calling my name, beckoning me to try them on. I know, I know, they aren't talking to me, they are talking to my credit cards. Now speaking of bargains, this location has a dedicated room, which usually is spilling out with marked-down goodies. Be sure to have some time on your hands to be able to comb through this closet. On a recent visit that I used a hard day at the office as an excuse to shop, I scored some Joe's Jeans for $49, which usually retail for about $150 to $180 for a pair of jeans. Now how could I leave with just one pair? To top things off, Anthropologie carries the stuffed animal collection from "Jellycat", which my little Punkin happens to love. Ultimately on my recent excursion, I ended up leaving the store with the jeans and a stuffed zebra to ease my guilty conscience that I had once again succumbed to my terrible weakness. Oh, but it felt soo goood.
google avatar

Kiyana M. W.

Yelp
My all time favorite store in the entire world so much so that if the world were going to end, I would run to Anthropologie. Before I became an avid shopper of Anthro, I used to just go to the store to be inspired by all of the creativity and joy it houses. Some of the worlds greatest travelers and creative minds create this company. I love them dearly.
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
I love this Anthropologie location. Everyone is very very helpful...not like the location off westheimer where everyone looks a little sad. This location is also much larger so you definitely have some breathing room. What else can I say about Anthropologie. They have some amazingly adorable stuff and some stuff that is strange to me. I will definitely keep frequenting this specific location in the future.

Nam S.

Yelp
I love Anthropologie and love this store (arragment of stuffs, smell and of course the customer service). I have been shopping at anthropology since 2010. I absolutely love everything about the clothes, jewelry, household stuff it carries. I love shopping at this store as this location is very convenient for me as i live 10 mins from this store. Apart from location i love the customer service here. If i call and as them about any thing they look it for me and get back to me if they are busy at that time. The sale room is smaller than highland village store but its not cramped (easier to make decision) and had lots of fitting room. The sales persons are very helpful. They help finding sizes and help with clothes that look good on me . I specially love Victoria. She is so sweet and kind. I am very comfortable when she is around. I discuss what should i buy (that looks good on me ) within my budget. I always feel good after i leave this store :):):)
google avatar

Natasha G.

Yelp
I really really like this Anthropology for their large home and furniture section. It just makes me want a giant wish list for my future home. This is a larger store than in Highland Village. This is my most favorite store ever!!!
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
I like coming here for ideas and inspiration on home decor and fashion. However, their prices are often overly high for what you get. Can usually easily find things cheaper elsewhere. Plus it would be nice if they carried sizes for plus sized women for their clothes are often super cute.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
I usually come here to buy gifts for friends, family, or coworkers. They always have something unique and fun to give whether it is clothes, kitchen accessories, or home decorations. Love this store.
google avatar

Lan N.

Yelp
One of my favorite clothing stores, I've loved every piece I've bought from this store but not everything in here is worth the price tag. It's nice when you do find that cute blouse or dress though.
google avatar

Athenapex C.

Yelp
Not a fan of the store. Definitely is a trendy hotspot but have noted the clothes are of cheap materials. Polyester and acrylics.

Catherine F.

Yelp
I always liked the unique styles of Anthropologie, but I never liked the store in Highland Village on Westheimer. This new store in City Centre is great!!! It's spacious, well lit, and I can actually see all the items of clothing they sell!! Normally when I'd visit the other location, I'm in and out in less than 30 minutes, but not the City Centre location. I wanted to look at every thing on the racks. It's still very pricey, but I can always find a cute top on sale. This is a bit further for me to get to but I don't mind the drive.
google avatar

Ann E.

Yelp
This isn't the closest Anthro to me but I prefer this location. Staff is super friendly and accommodating and that really matters to me.
google avatar

Regina J.

Yelp
Large anthropologie store with nice arrangement of decors. The sales section is hidden inside at the corner and poorly stocked. But you can always order sale item online at the register and ask then to ship free to your home.

L H.

Yelp
Beautiful store. Smells wonderful. Sales people are very helpful. My only complaint: be in tune with your customers at the checkout line. I was hogging the ONE person at the register with a return and an order while meanwhile I spotted at least three sales people walking by. Finally, I whispered to the young girl: "Do you think you could open another register for the people behind me?" She immediately called someone for backup and they were there to speed up the line. Just curious why she couldn't figure that out on her own?
google avatar

Vanessa B.

Yelp
very helpful staff and wonderful store layout. only 4 stars because two people were discussing another employee's mishaps while folding clothes and one said how she had to write the employee up.

Katie A.

Yelp
I just love this Anthro location! The store is always very well organized, and the customer service is consistently fabulous! I want to especially thank Thuy for her help today with several returns/price adjustments. She was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful! I will drive out of the way to visit this Anthro location due to the excellent customer service I always receive!
