I almost missed this place and would have been sorely remiss an absolutely amazing spinach ricotta pastry and fresh apple pastry thing!! I don't even have time to look up what this pastry thing is actually called in Italian because I'm too excited to write an extremely complimentary review!! The bakery is small and definitely a local go-to: there is no fancy window display, just a case of handmade pastries and racks of mean loaves. Most of the pastries are by weight, so I got a slice of the ricotta pastry which wasn't oily at all, but rather fluffy and flaky at the same time, the inside absolutely gorgeously seasoned and not wet. The apple pastry sort of got squashed in my bag :( but it was just the marvelous sweet thing I wanted for mid morning - lightly coated in powdered sugar with a sweet but not saccharine apple and cinnamon inside. The pastry was less flaky but rather doughy, which I liked given the already slipperiness of the apple mix. Both cost me just 3.50€, and I picked up a carton of milk at the grocery store, so my first meal for a 13 mile day in Florence cost me less than 5€. The bakery is a little out of the way, but if you make it as far as Santa Croce and are thinking about going to Piazza Michelangelo on the other side of the Arno, stop by here, grab an espresso at cafe Piansa down the street, and be on your merry walking way up Mount Minato!
