As a longtime patron of Antique Row Cafe, I can confirm that the real/old Antique Row cafe is officially dead and gone. While I commend the menu re-design and removing items (less is better imo), I cannot recommend the food. The biscuits are now so incredibly dry, completely void of any flavor. No butter or jam was saving this. Not even the classic move, which is just using gravy from my country fried steak. The gravy now has little to no sausage in it, more translucent and overall tasted like it had been thinned out. The cut of chicken for the chicken fried chicken is much smaller and the spices have been changed. You used to need a fork and knife to cut it, now it just cuts with a fork. In general, everything tasted "thinned out". Empty.
And not only can you taste the difference of these cost cutting measures, everything has been raised in price. That single dry biscuit with mediocre, bland gravy on it? $5.99. We were a party of four. 2 plates of country fried steak($16.99 each), 1 chicken fried chicken (17.99 - a dollar more? WHY?), 1 coffee, 1 soda and 1 biscuit with gravy (5.99). Total was over $70. Tip was more than adequate, although not deserved. Our server didn't bring us our biscuits for a good 5 minutes. We had to remind her. No water refills. I get we are all human, but it just wasn't busy enough to be making those kinds of mistakes.
Don't get me wrong. Antique Rows was not that great before ownership changed. It especially went downhill after they removed the monterrey potato cakes. No disrespect to Maria and Mario (I think that was their names), I ate there a TON. Took friends there after a night out, family visiting... Etc. Been going since I was a teenager. But after my last visit, it really put it into perspective just how bad it has become after it sold to new owners.
RIP Antique Row Cafe! Just change it to something else and start over. This aint it!
