"This legendary pastry shop could go head-to-head with Mike’s Pastry in the North End. The original owners were of French origin, but the shop started offering cannoli and sfogliatelle to please the village’s Italian population. Don’t be concerned about the hollow cannoli shells on the shelves — the ricotta is filled fresh to order. Be sure to try the Nutella-twisted pretzels and the Neapolitan rum baba. Antoine’s is open for in-store shopping." - Tommy Ranucci

Love love loveeee this bakery. Wow I am not a huge “sweets” fan but this bakery was recommended to us. This placed changed me, every pastry we have tried here has been fantastic. Our favorite is the lobster tails, they are flakey, not too sweet and filling. They are big, so def able to share one with your partner (or save some for yourself for later). My husband went to pick it up this last time in his military uniform since he was rushing out of work, and they let him cut the line (thank you for that, extremely kind). This place is worth it! Take the drive!

Google
This is an old school Italian style bakery. We come every week when my son has some services in the area. They've got a great variety and I haven't had anything there I didn't like.

Cassie Goldstein

Google
Best pastries ever!! Beats anyplace on the North End by a mile. Everything is made fresh every morning by the friendly staff. The lobster tails and the bread are must gets. Highly recommend!

CJ

Google
Amazing family run place. Everything is excellent. The location is adorable and the generations of family working there are wonderful people. A New England staple. The best bakery in Boston and surrounding area.

Jenn Y.

Google
Their lobster tails are 10/10!!! Best I’ve ever had! So flaky and overstuffed with delicious cream filling. Some of their other pastries were a hit or a miss for me. But try this bakery for yourself and I’m sure you’ll find your faves!

Rebecca Alpert

Google
Their cherry macaroons are out of this world. I had them back in 2015 at work and I've been thinking about them on and off for the last 8 years. I finally made it over to Newton today. They are just as good as I remembered and the bakery is so cute. I loved watching the people making stuff in the back while we waited, the staff was lovely and great at dealing with the crowd, and they still tie their boxes with string! We haven't tried the other things we've bought yet, but I'll be back for my next cookie fix. Thanks so much for the great experience.

Mike

Google
A real Nonantum gem. This place is awesome and so are the pastries. It’s got a very cool old school Italian vibe and I love it. So many delicious pastries to chose from.

Google
One of the best bakeries. It's so good that even my dogs drag me to stop every time we walk by. Excellent!

Diana R.

Yelp
We were overwhelmed at the aromas, choices and helpful friendly staff at this local neighborhood Italian bakery. We bought all flavors and shells of cannolis, cinnamon horns (um, addictive), a lobster tail, and a thickly latticed cherry pie. Oh my goodness, be prepared for a sugar coma because you won't be able to stop at one bite. Best pastries and pie we've ever had; it beats anything we've had in the North End hands down.

Jannet C.

Yelp
This is an amazing pastry shop! When we walked into the store, it was a literal treat for the senses. It smelled so good, and all the pastries looked delicious on display. I especially liked how they fill the cannoli to order. We got a variety of pastries to enjoy at home with family for the holidays; some cannoli, eclairs, scones, Whoopi' pies, etc.. everything tasted amazing. Even though there was a big line, it was worth the wait, the staff are very helpful and friendly. This is a great place for dessert whenever we are in the area!

Renee C.

Yelp
Literally the best RICOTTA PIE on the planet. Its an Easter tradition in many Italian homes. Ive enjoyed many many pies. My moms friend made an incredible one. But of all the ricotta pies- Antione's remains top notch! The flavor, the texture, the crust! I cant stop!

John Y.

Yelp
This is a cozy little bakery in Newton. There are a good variety of pastries and cakes offered. You don't need to order cakes ahead of time, as there were several on display and available when we went. Staff were friendly, plenty of street (metered) parking. Decent prices and the things we tried were delicious. The cookies and cream cake looked good and tasted great. The lobster tail was of decent size and the cream filling was excellent and not overly sweet or bland. I'd come here again for cakes and pastries.

Fred M.

Yelp
Very solid bakery with a huge variety of choices- easily over 60 different baked goods and pastries as well as cakes Ordered 8 different pastries as well as plain croissants (the true test of a great bakery), cookies and muffins Everything was good, nothing was great Croissants were not light, buttery and flaky, but too bready and disappointing Definitely the most variety of any bakery I've ever visited Something good for every meal and everyone

Yelp
A MUST DO! 4 STARS! Antoine's Pastry Shop is a Good Bakery in Newton that specializes in Traditional French & Italian pastries as well as modern American desserts too. It has been here since 1954. In 2024 they will be celebrating 70 years in business. Antoine's is a little Hidden gem located in an Old School Neighborhood with Mom & Pop shops in the Nonantum Section of Newton. It is one of 13 distinct & unique Villages they have in the city of Newton which is right outside of Boston. Be sure to walk up & down both sides of Watertown Street for a truly throwback in time of what shopping & eating was like back in the day. It's a unique experience of old world charm. Be sure to check out the Schwartz Ace Hardware store which is more 130 years old. The Italian colors of red, white & green are seen from fire hydrants to markings on the street itself & all over Nonantum. Some people even refer to Nonantum as a mini version of The North End. Now, Easter time is a very Special Time here @ Antoine's & surely one of the Best. They make themed Easter Cakes & Holiday baked goods. They carry the Delicious Imported Chocolate Easter Eggs all beautifully decorated that they bring in directly from Italy. Then they make their own Pane di Pasqua - Delicious Italian Easter Bread with colored eggs & the flavors of citrus & anise. Lots of Delicious Fun for Easter! It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be really Rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

Yelp
Whenever we come to Newton we stop at Antoine's. This weekend we needed a birthday cake for our Grandson so we picked one up here. They kindly put his name on it. The lady that wait on me couldn't have been nicer. The cake was so tender and delicious and the frosting not too sweet - perfect! This is one of those bakery's that take you back to what bakeries are supposed to be. Freshness, great variety and great quality. We got Challah bread and made French toast for breakfast -sooo good. Should have gotten two.

Edward W.

Yelp
I dropped by this pastry shop two months ago for a quick dessert. I got a cannoli and a almond braided roll. The cannoli was made to order and the ricotta cheese was very fresh. However, the almond flavored shell was a bit sweet. The almond braided roll was stale and hardly had any almond flavor. Very disappointing...

S B.

Yelp
Antoine's is the best place to go for homemade pastry. I have yet to order something I have not liked. They have phenomenal cookies, cupcakes, pastries, and homemade breads. The staff is so friendly and they are very organized in their service . I definitely recommend.

Margot D.

Yelp
What is it about bakery boxes with the old-school bakery twine that makes people happy? I worked at a bakery in high school, I remember wrapping the twine and having a callus on one finger the entire time I worked there but I was just thinking that newer places don't use the twine so much... they have fancy stickers. Stickers are fine (and easier on the hands for sure) but the twine is the giveaway that you will be eating something really exciting, perhaps your favorite childhood goodies? I haven't been in Antoine's for years - not because I haven't passed by, but because I just have no self control in bakeries. None. I couldn't decide between the Whoopie Pie or a Half Moon, so I did what any reasonable person who has been living for 13 months in a Covid world: I got both! Whoopie Pie was nice and cakey, stuffed with frosting and perfect. The Half Moon had a slight lemony taste to the bottom, and delicious frosting on top. I liked their use of a milk chocolate frosting instead of a darker one, it made for a "lighter" taste (especially after the whoopie pie!). The two girls working mid-afternoon on Sunday April 18th were very nice, hard to tell their ages since we all have masks on, but late teens?

Elena M.

Yelp
Antoine's pastry shop has the best lobster tail, the people there were so nice, and the service was fast. The cannolis are filled in front of you which was amazing.

Kasey K.

Yelp
Wonderful pastry. Wonderful people. They will take care of anything for you and any special requests. They are my go to bakery.

Nikki N.

Yelp
Came in about 2 hours before closing on Saturday and this is exactly what I mean when I tell people I crave classic pastries. Antoine's is a hidden gem but they've been in the bakery game for a long time. I will definitely be back when I'm looking to cheat on my diet. Classic pastries are a price-point between $3-4.

Debra C.

Yelp
I walk in and feel 50 years younger. Every pastry from my childhood is here and tastes just as good. I drive an hour for their food

Laura D.

Yelp
Pros: -They have donuts! -Lots of other delicious options -The staff beautifully boxed and tied up our order Cons: -$5.00 card minimum -Street parking 2 donuts, a huge eclair, mini cheesecake and tiny rainbow cookie for $11.75 (no receipt, so not sure the cost of any individual items, but it seemed like a fair price for this haul) Rainbow Cookie Absolutely delicious and the jam really came through. Unfortunately so small! Definitely get multiple. Eclair Over 6oz, perfectly semi-sweet/semi-bready dough, loaded with filling. Donuts (Iced Chocolate Cake and Hazelnut Filled) Good chocolate icing and hazelnut filling, but definitely on the drier side because neither was glazed before being frosted. Maybe a 2-2.5/5 for the donuts. Still, I was happy to see them. They also had Pumpkin cake, Apple cider cake, and I think a basic frosted donut flavor while I was there. I would definitely go back!

Karen S.

Yelp
Very good pastries. I love their cream puffs! Yummy bisquotti and pizzelli too. Very nice people.

Nancy C.

Yelp
An amazing bakery with some wonderful people that work there. Frances is a doll and very helpful! I love the Italian macarons with pignoli nuts. So yummy but everything there is

Kerry B.

Yelp
They've been around forever and get 5 stars from me. Best damn cheesecake in the whole wide world!! Good bismarks too. Only thing...can you please make more Scali with seeds bread. It's often gone by like 10 a.m. on Sat. Please :).

Bill D.

Yelp
Anytime I get anywhere near this fantastic old school bakery, I've just got to stop and have a few treats. It just terrific and I can't recommend it enough.

David S.

Yelp
This place is making me fat! I've been many times and each time I get more and more. Today I have already eaten a cinnamon twist, half an apple turnover and part of a cranberry muffin. Hoping not to eat the box of pastries I'm saving for guests. Make that "was saving." Oh well.

John A.

Yelp
Great old school bakery. Baked goods are always delicious! Staff is polite and efficient!

Carrie C.

Yelp
The best pastry shop around- cinnamon horns are the most perfect pastry I've ever had! And I've had a lot of pastries:). Was my favorite discovery during early COVID and those horns brought me great joy during those crazy days. A must-try if you like baked goods!

Sarah T.

Yelp
We bought lots to try on our first visit. Sadly, almost everything was a bit disappointing. Here are my thoughts: - chocolate chip cookie: tasted like a softer Chips Ahoy. Had one bite and threw the rest away - chocolate chip rugelach: had citrus/sour undertones, which I'm not a fan of. Maybe it was from cream cheese? Threw the 2nd one away. - carrot cake: moist and flavorful with yummy frosting, but heavy on the spices - pecan roll: good flavor, but dry - cinnamon chip bread: meh. Ate a couple bites and threw the rest out. - lobster tail: holy cow, that's a lot of pastry cream! My husband liked it but thought the bread was overdone and too crispy/hard. - plain cheesecake: husband liked how fluffy it was. - butter cookie and gingerbread: my daughter was a fan. Overall, great selection and very reasonable prices, but nothing stood out. I can't imagine going back.

Valerie F.

Yelp
I was able to get a delicious rum cake on short notice ... Everyone was very accommodating... The price was very reasonable ... delicious cake enjoyed by all !!

Hubert H.

Yelp
Kind of a low-key but very nice bakery in the Nonantum area of Newton near Watertown. Had the macarons - they were unevenly shaped, a bit too sweet, and the filling was a bit goopy, but otherwise they were fun to eat. The rustic bread could have been denser, a bit too close to plain bread for my taste. It's as if they utilized the same flour they used to make the scali, and maybe browned the top for a bit longer. I'm looking forward to trying their cakes!

Victoria C.

Yelp
A lot of options at this corner pastry shop in Newton. We stopped by mid-morning on a weekday and picked up a box of sweets including cookie monster whoopie pie, Nutella pretzel, apple cinnamon turnover, chocolate donut, lemon danish, and a peach muffin. I definitely have to say I preferred their savory items over the sweet items we got. The peach muffin was definitely the winner out of this box, very refreshing and very moist for a muffin. The lemon danish and turnover were good, both flakey and had enough apple/lemony taste to them. The Nutella pretzel was lacking Nutella and was more of a dry pretzel. The chocolate donut was extremely dry the day after, so I wouldn't recommend getting either of those. The cute novelty of the cookie monster whoopie pie was great and the chocolate cakes weren't too dry since the frosting made up for it. They also had an Elmo whoopie pie among tons of other cakes and pastries for you to choose from. After you order, they tie your box up with string for extra security, which is a nice touch. Overall, it's a win for this pastry shop, and would love to go back to try their other treats!

Sun S.

Yelp
I have been going to Antonies pastry for over 45 years since I was a child. I am Italian and visited Rome, Florence, Sicily, Amalfi etc. So, I know excellent pastry when I taste it. This bakery is a gem and is far better than Mike's Pastry in Boston and even Modern. I would say this is the #1 bakery in Massachusetts followed by Modern Pastry a close second. Everything is fresh and the pastry chef studied in France and Italy. They know how to bake and they know what good pastry is...this is exceptional. The poor reviews here are people that likely are never satisfied in life. Trust me everything is delicious and fresh. Love this place.

Diane W.

Yelp
I give it only three stars because the pastry isn't always fresh. For what they charge, they shouldn't be selling old pastry but on more than one occasion I've received soggy Napoleons and stale cookies. So sad because this used to be the best bakery around. Quality isn't what it used to be.

Lee D.

Yelp
I go to Antoines every year for a whipped cream cake on my birthday. They have great ones and it's a lost art. gold cake with strawberries in the middle and plenty of whipped cream frosting. Also love their lobster tail. A crunchy pastry shell outside and plenty of whipped cream inside. Everything turns over so everything is fresh. Cannolis are also very good.

Isabel G.

Yelp
I ordered a strawberry shortcake for my sister's birthday and it was delicious. My sister and her family are still enjoying this light cake with whipped cream and strawberries. It was so good that I decided to order a couple pies for Thanksgiving from Antoine's. I'm glad that this bakery is in my neighborhood!

Howie B.

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was a little boy (that would make it nearly 50 years!) Though we don't live as close to Antoine's as we used to, I still love going back there. Walking through the doors is like stepping back to a simpler time. The folks behind the counter wear old-time bakers shirts in blue or white with the Antoine's name embroidered on them. They have the old string dispensers hanging from the ceiling, ready to wrap your boxes of baked goods. The cases are filled with beautiful-looking pastries, cakes, pies and cookies and other confections. Upon walking in, the smell is intoxicating, whetting your appetite for the treats to come. Oh, yes, and they are fantastic! You can't go wrong with anything. Do yourself a favor and make a visit to "The Lake", mush, for some incredible Antoine's pastries!

Maddy R.

Yelp
The best. Everything that you can imagine!! Sweet fresh delicious pastries bread pies cakes. Hungry yet

Asma K.

Yelp
Not a fan. We got several different things and I could only have one bite before discarding that item. Not worth the calories.

Christina V.

Yelp
While I've generally enjoyed their items in the past what I got this past Sunday was not so great. I love baked goods but as you walk in you're hit in the face with the smell of sugar and most of their pastries are sickeningly sweet. We got an arrangement of things and the only one I finished was the mini Ricotta Pie. Their take on a Tirimisu was dry with no boozy flavor and the "frosting" I guess you could call it on top tasted like a stick of butter - gross! Their Lemon Mousse Cake had such fake lemon flavor, especially the top layer, it was inedible. I forget what else we got but I was not impressed. I was surprised to see such a selection late on a Sunday afternoon but a lot of the items in the cases looked gooey and messy. Sorry Antoine - not worth the calories, won't be back.

Lucy L.

Yelp
It's exactly what it looks like-- a straight up bakery with old time classics. No frills, okay prices. Good service. If you are looking for any nuance like butter flavor in the cookies or dairy taste in the pastry cream, I'd go elsewhere. Long lines say this place is a local favorite. Many options to try.

Jay M.

Yelp
Excellent ownership. Bakery cases always full and empty quick. Everything great selection and fresh... cannolis, eclairs, half moon , cookies, everything always stuffed with fillings, frosting etc...I drive 2 towns over for their goods. Owner always here and engaging to customers...

Nicole F.

Yelp
Yes yes yes!! Holy cannoli! Had the regular cannoli and the Carmel crusted house favorite cannoli... omg! Extra crispy, bursting with flavor... best cannoli I've ever had!! Got the Cookie Monster cookie for the babies and they LOVED IT! Also, the tiramisu was absolutely worth mentioning!! Husband says it's better than Mike's.

Shandalier P.

Yelp
I was waiting to pick my aunt up at the airport & stopped in based on decent yelp reviews. When my husband and I first walked in two women were behind the counter having a conversation so no greeting when we walked in and they continue their conversation. I had to politely interrupt them because the sign in front the muffin fell & I wanted to know the flavor, she acted like she was not at work. All of the muffin trays had 2 different flavors except the pumpkin muffins even though they look different she said they were both pumpkin just a different batch. I had to order at least $5.00 worth of stuff to use my card which normally is easy in a bakery, I order 2 cookies and 2 muffins. The chocolate chip cookies were so dry & the muffins were hard like they were a few days old. I was not impressed from the service to the product I would not return nor would I recommend someone waste their time here.

Lewis D. W.

Yelp
Best cannoli outside of North End! This is an old school gem opened in 1954 - let's hope it stays another 50 years!

Paul Z.

Yelp
Not going to add anything that isn't already stated here. Good selection and okay taste and quality. Really a 3.5 star review because the person helping us made us feel rushed even though we were literally the only ones in the store, maybe she was just having a bad day. Overall good pastry shop.

Lala L.

Yelp
This place gives me old school bakery vibes. It has been in business for over 50 years so no wonder everything is delicious. I lived in the area for some time and which I would have stopped by here more often. Outstanding italian cookies, cannolis, lobster tails etc. Great customer service and they box everything up perfectly.

Ashley J.

Yelp
I love this place. I haven't had anything that isn't delicious but my favorite are the champagne cookies and of course the florentine cannoli and lobster tails. Sometimes I ask to have things packed in multiple boxes and they're always happy to do so. My favorite bakery in the Boston area! M

Krysty K.

Yelp
A gem in Massachusetts. First time visiting Boston and Newton, we first went to Steamers across the street (delicious chowder) then decided to walk over to see what Antoine's Pastry Shop had. Delicious original cannolis! Amazing soft almond cookies too! Chatted with the workers working in the front of the shop and the back of the shop and they were SO kind. This place makes you feel like you're at home. I would love to recommend this pastry shop to tourists in the area. :)

Julia T.

Yelp
Excellent service and quality. I ordered 50 cupcakes for an event and they were ready within a weeks notice. Francis was sweet and made the customer experience very enjoyable and the cupcakes were a good size and delicious. Will be using them for company and private events again in the future!

Angela L.

Yelp
Ok, I visited this establishment because I wanted to try a Boston Cream Pie. I have tried it before (not at this place) and wasn't real impressed with the way it tasted. Anyway, I walk in and I got sidetracked. There are so many baked goods, you want to get one of everything. So I played it safe and ordered a tiramisu and canoli, which are some of my favorite italian desserts. When I tell you it was good.....they both were delectable!!! I was pleasantly surprised how delicious the desserts were, so the next time I visit I will try the Boston Cream Pie. Also, the service was fast and friendly. Parking is located on side of the street.

Leslie T.

Yelp
5 stars for the lobster tail. It's incredible. We got a variety of things and everything was quite good, but some of the pastries weren't very memorable and were a bit bland. The service was excellent and extremely helpful. Definitely come here and get some raspberry bows and a lobster tail.

Mevtmact C.

Yelp
Huge selection and tastes fresh. I went here for the first time today since moving into the area and I can't wait to return. They have like every pastry imaginable. I got the blueberry scone and lemon danish. The people there are so kind and helpful!

David V.

Yelp
Writing this review not based on food or service. I went today during business hours (according to Yelp and their website) and the bakery was closed. No signage, no update on their website. Not cool. Plus Newton apparently does not clean any sidewalks and it was very messy. So I'm bitter about that too.

Roger T.

Yelp
Wonderful local bakery. Classic stuff. Cannolis piped to order. Bread is delicious and the array of sweets is just wonderful.

Marlana Y.

Yelp
German chocolate cake- not good. It looks good on the outside but the taste missed the mark. It was so dry and stale tasting. Before I bought it, the lady behind the counter highly recommended the cake and said it was popular. I bought this for my brothers birthday dinner and was embarrassed because it did not taste good at all. My family no longer trusts me in bringing dessert to family functions. Thanks a lot!
