My hubby and I have been fans of Anton Patisserie since March 2023, regularly ordering from their San Jose location through UberEats. We had one in-person experience there that was less than ideal due to the staff’s lack of enthusiasm, so we were hopeful that the opening of their new San Mateo location would bring a fresh vibe.
Sadly, we noticed the same lackluster attitude from the staff at this new spot, even though it’s still the opening month. A simple welcome was given, but no mention of the 20% promo running through the month or the loyalty sign-up gift (a mango panna cotta). I had seen the promotion on their Instagram and just wanted to confirm it, but it would’ve been nice if the staff had mentioned it in their welcome greeting. The panna cotta was a nice gesture for joining the loyalty program, but since we’re allergic to mango, we couldn’t choose a different flavor like matcha. Still, a freebie is a freebie, so we appreciated it regardless!
The Pros:
One of the best new features is the loyalty program! The sign-up asked for details like address, zip code, and even where employed ( i guess this part is real specific to learn where to go for collaborations or just to get more detailed customer pool info)
The Anton Sighting:
On the way to the store, we got a glimpse of Anton himself! He looked cheerful and friendly, and even smiled at us warmly as we passed by. It was such a memorable moment—one of those little things that makes you feel more connected to a place.
The Cake:
We got 2 slices of the Hokkaido Mille Crepe. The weather was on the cooler side (around 60°F), so we were surprised to find both slices melting at the base. With no seating at the store, we enjoyed it nearby at Jamba Juice. Despite the texture, the cake’s taste was as good as we remembered.
Overall Recommendation:
Anton’s passion clearly shines through, but we hope his staff could bring a bit of that warmth to their service. It would make such a difference if the customer service matched the vibe we got from Anton himself.
