Dallas’s Hidden Gems: Best Bars, Restaurants, Shops, and Parks | Eater

"If Italian food to you means traditional red-sauce plates in a warm, neighborhood environment, you’ll feel right at home at Antonio. Antonio Avona has helmed his eponymous restaurant, situated right on Addison Circle Park, since 1998 and it remains a top spot for homey Italian classics like fresh ravioli, homemade meatballs, and veal scallopini. Plus, the masterfully selected wine list features all of the Italian big names at deep discounts compared to other upscale Dallas dining establishment. (We’re looking at you, pricey steakhouse.)" - Vox Creative

This place is absolutely amazing. The light was low so my pictures aren't the best. The portions were huge!! I also had a glass of the best Moscato I've tasted.

Went to Antonio’s with a group of 6friends/family. It was consistently exceptional. Have been many times and NEVER disappoints. A couple of us had the lamb chops which were tender and delicious, 2 people had the sea bass with risotto special which I tasted and LOvED! Another person ordered the seafood fettuccini which he always orders which speaks volumes and a young man in our group the steak. The steak looked beautifully cooked. We all shared lobster bites and carpaccio. We really enjoyed both. The Caymus wine to accompany our meal was perfect. I highly recommend Antonio’s. Prices are very reasonable for food, quality of service and atmosphere.

We came to celebrate my husband's birthday. The carpaccio was delicious, and the avocado and crabmeat appetizer were tasty, not overly seasoned. I had the chef's special, branzino over scalloped potatoes. The branzino was tender as expected, but whoa, someone over salted a bit of the fish. Geez. It worked out because someone forgot to salt the water that the potatoes were cooked in. My husband had the jumbo scallops, also on the special menu. I felt like I had channeled my inner Gordon Ramsey because the scallops were overcooked. He'd also mentioned that his dish was on the salty side. We shared my branzino dinner.

Very mixed feelings about our experience here. The atmosphere was very nicely decorated and lit… but the music felt very out of place. Some of the service seemed great, but our waiter was bad and made the experience not so great. He was not understandable to communicate with and we ended up with salad and soup charges that we wouldn’t have ordered if we thought they weren’t a part of the meal. My husband was brought a completely wrong entree, but we told them it was corrected. My entree was correct - I had the Capricciosa pizza and it came out with no Prosciutto (the whole reason I wanted that pizza). The pizza itself was a mix of being way to crispy for my liking and partially chewy/soggy in some spots. Low quality cheese and nothing special. The bruschetta we ordered was just okay. However, we ordered a cocktail that was very good and the clam chowder was also phenomenal! It looked like there were potentially some other good things on the menu, but at too high of prices.

Antonio’s is one of my favorite pasta restaurants!! The atmosphere is so cozy and great for a date night. I always get the ravioli and it is so good every time. Cheesy and so many raviolis I never finish! The bread and olive oil they give you at the beginning of the meal will fill you up so be sure to not eat too much! I typically get the calamari for an appetizer (so good and the little lemons they use are so cute) but this time I got the carpaccio. I was in heaven I could have eaten 4 plates of that! My fiance got Antonio’s Carbonara and he was also so impressed! Creamy and just the right amount of salt. In addition to the amazing food, our server Sergio was so great! Attentive and made great recommendations. The wine he selected was a 2021 brunello (I think I forgot to take a picture of the bottle) and it went perfect with our dinner. It was our anniversary and they printed out a little sign saying happy anniversary with me and my fiancés name printed. Such a sweet touch!! I will definitely be back!

We had the most amazing time!! The staff was attentive, super sweet, friendly and welcoming!!! For people who don't get to go out much we had a blast!!! Food was mouth watering delicious!! I don't usually trust getting seafood this far inland but it was well worth it!!! We went for our 10 year wedding anniversary! They made us feel very special! Loved our server and all the wait staff!! Definitely try the espresso martini!!

Google
Addison circle has a few restaurants I’ve had before and this was next on the list. I went on a Friday evening around 7:45p and it was nice and quiet with only a few tables with guests. I loved the atmosphere! It could be because Christmas is close and I could look out the window and see lights, but not only that, I enjoyed the food. I’ll probably go back one day and try the wine, but for now, I liked what I had!

Google
Gonzalo was attentive without hovering, handled every detail with care (like pouring wine, packing leftovers neatly, and even adjusting the lights and TV when bringing the check), and gave honest & helpful recommendations. It’s clear he takes pride in what he does and it shows. The Tuesday wine tastings and Izzy’s guidance on wine selection was also exciting, but Gonzalo stood out. He made our night feel smooth and elevated without ever getting in the way. A real professional. Hope to see him again on our next visit.

Yelp
I was in town for 4 days and had dinner at Antonios twice. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing, the staff was impeccable, the food was Out Of This World and the Wine list was totally on point. The owner I think his name was Sean, was courteous and had an amazing knowledge of wines. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANTONIOS.

Yelp
We came here with friends for their tasting menu night and it was excellent! The food was great! Service was friendly and engaging. We had a three course set meal paired with wine. Everything was flavorful and portion size was not too heavy. We had fried mozzarella, meatball pasta and chicken parm. Will def be back for a dinner soon!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurants great food but was upcharged nearly 50% because we choose to split our meals never told there was a split charge a $24 lasagna cost was much higher great service but felt like we were gauged. ,,.............................

Yelp
Located down in the Addison Circle it's a great area to spend an evening and walk around afterward. Atmosphere: Tons of seating, both inside and out. Double table-clothed tables add a sense of elegance all the while being a place that invites both romantic dates or casual walk-ins. Running fountains outside add a nice counter to any street noise from passing cars. 1 Star Service: I mean, it doesn't get any better. Sergio was out waiter and he was top-notch. Polite. Informative (rattled off 4 separate specials for the night without hesitation), and very attentive. We wanted for nothing. I could not decide between two dishes (Penne Alla Piriano or the Italian Sausage Ravioli), so I told Sergio to just bring me one of his choosing. He did not disappoint. 2 Stars Food: Sergio ordered me the Penne and it was amazing. The sausage was the highlight. So tasty. And the sauce had just that little bit of Italian spiciness that set it off. My dinner buddy tonight ordered the Chicken Parm and WOW!!! Not only was it two HUGE crispy fried chicken cutlets, but they were so tender, they seemed to just melt in your mouth. It came with the pasta of the day, which happened to be farfalle in a delicate marinara sauce. Overall: We will be back and we will sit outside. We will also ask for Sergio by name. Such a great evening.

Yelp
This restaurant is the only Italian restaurant in DFW that has my favorite Northern Italian dish.... Costoletta Di Vitello Alla Milanese! Having roots in Italy, this restaurant brings it home for me. The service is great, atmosphere is quiet, gentle, and you feel relaxed...which is the best way to enjoy a great meal. The founder, Chef Antonio, unfortunately passed away many years ago, but his spirit lives on. Every time I come here, I always leave satisfied and want to come back. Another dish I highly recommend is the Cioppino Antonio, and the Bruschetta.

Yelp
We came here for tasting Tuesday for my birthday. We had a group of five and I had called ahead to let them know we were coming. They direct us to the room and told us to find a seat which there wasn't any space for five of us so they had to end up adding a table and moving around. I was grateful that the audience was OK with accommodating us. The tasting was good and the food samples are pretty small. Last time I came, as they finished up, they immediately asked if we wanted to order any meals that we liked from the tasting. That's what I expected to happen this time. Instead, the server asked about dessert, we asked for a meal menu, and by the time she came back, we had decided we would just close out and walk over to another bar. It took 45 minutes to get our tabs to close out for the tasting where each of us had the exact same amount. By that point, it was almost 9 o'clock and everyone just went home still feeling a bit hungry. Aside from the lengthy time to get our checks, the restaurant was very accommodating and wanted to make me feel special for my birthday. They had everyone in the tasting room sing happy birthday, and they brought out a cake 30 minutes after we had finished. And as we were walking out the door, they had limoncello shots for us. In the future, I would recommend, if you're going to do all of this to do this as your meal is finishing up because we had been sitting there for 45 minutes waiting to close out and the room had cleared out.

Yelp
Service was really good, the waiters were very attentive and enjoyable to talk to and helpful. The pasta was ok, it was fine but not really worth the price except for the lasagna. The bread and salads were probably the best thing I had other than the lasagna, they were really good and the oil we dipped the bread into was amazing. The atmosphere was very nice, it was pretty crowded so there were lots of people talk in and it wasn't that loud for it being so crowded. I probably wouldn't go here again, but if I did it'd be for the appetizers and the lasagna.

Sarah Beth Z.

Yelp
When we ordered our food, the server had talked up their soufflés and said we needed to order them ahead of time if we wanted them. Having had soufflés before, I know they are supposed to be light, airy, tall and fluffy. The server ASSURED me that theirs would hit the mark. Boy, was he wrong! I don't think I've ever seen a sadder soufflé. I'm honestly shocked they decided to serve it. The sous chef should have never let it go out of the kitchen looking like this!! Not only did it look horrible, it tasted like chocolate scrambled eggs. I told the server this was not a soufflé. He didn't take it back or remove it from the bill, which was surprising since I mentioned it did not look like a souffle. Yelp
An evening with friends last night at Antonio's. Small intimate bar for well poured cocktails to start. We followed that up with a delicious dinner. Service in the bar and during dinner by Yerena was spot on - attentive, friendly, and focused on us enjoying our time there. Their homemade Ceasar salad is one of the best in the city - so good! The flounder special (lightly breaded and pan fried with lemon caper sauce) was outstanding! The accompanying green beans were perfectly prepared. All very fresh and delicious!

Yelp
I actually came here two years ago on my partner and I's first date, so this place is pretty special to us. I will say that the portions have gotten markedly smaller while the price tag has not. The friends we came with this time remarked on how small the portions were as well. It all still has a similar flavor to what it used to be, but it was a noticeably different experience. We actually got dessert this time, but it was a tiny portion so each of us got about two bites a piece. Kinda annoying.

Kayti B.

Yelp
I have been here a handful of times and I love it. The neighborhood is quaint and adorable. The patio feels like a slice of Italy. Service is wonderful. Food is great. Never disappointed.

Briana R.

Yelp
Amazing wine and drink selection, food, of course, and outstanding service that makes you feel like family every time you walk in. Love the outdoor patio and atmosphere of the inside

Yelp
had dinner there a couple of nights ago service was excellent. Food was amazing. We had the shrimp, spaghetti, lasagna, and the veal piccata appetizer was calamari. Calamari came with a very tasty marinara sauce. The shrimp with plump and juicy was veal piccata it was awesome it's a great quaint little restaurant with, great food don't hesitate to go

K F.

Yelp
Antonio's is still the best 'go to' spot for great italian food and charming ambiance. We love the staff here! Yerena, Moe, Oso, are all attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and fabulous! Everything shows great attention to detail. Be sure to try their Caesar salad (light dressing) with parmesan cheese crisps, hot bread and garlic olive oil, grilled salmon with dill sauce, 4 cheese ravioli with tomato cream sauce, spagettini with marinara, the list goes on.... Don't leave dinner without cappuccinos and a Grand Marnier soufflé!

Allan G.

Yelp
Excellent menu. Vongole is incredible. Perfect traditional calamari. Creative specials. Experienced servers do it right. Outside dining is comfortable and delightful.

Yelp
There food is exceptional And service is professional and thoughtful. The ravioli, fettuccine, lasagna, salads and desserts are so tasty you will be back!

Alexandra D.

Yelp
Got some spaghetti and it was so delicious (chef sent me a special extra tasty cheese). Lamb chops, tortellini were also delicious. Our waiter, Gonzalo, made the experience even better and was super patient while we chose wine. 10/10 recommend him and this restaurant!!

Yelp
We arrived at opening time. No wait for a table, but we had to wait 15 minutes at an inside table while they finished a "staff" meeting, and then they moved us at table by the window. Perhaps they should schedule these before they open for business? This was followed by a long wait before our server came to the table. We placed an order for appetizers, and after 25 minutes flagged someone down to let them know we wanted to place our main course order, as our server hadn't bothered to check in on us (we hadn't received starters yet). Our server showed up after the starters were delivered, surprised we wanted to order a meal. We placed our order, and when it arrived (delivered by other staff than our server), my companion received a different dish from what he ordered. So I ended up eating my dinner while it was still warm, and then waiting while they made his food, brought it to the table and he ate. The food was good but not extraordinary. All in all it was a substandard experience for what presents itself as a higher end dining venue. A combination of poor management (holding staff meetings while open for business) and poor wait staff (unfamiliar with the menu, unable to take an order accurately, unable to handle an error gracefully, and displaying a lack of attention to customers).
google avatar

Marium S.

Yelp
We got there at 8pm on a Monday, I mean no one would expect great service then but we were greeted nicely and our server was friendly and great he suggested delicious dishes. We had appetizers the lobster bites, Mozar Ella alla caprese, and focaccia all were so good!! Especially the lobster bites, for dinner we had spaghetti, risotto alla veneziana and gnocchi honestly it was like homemade delicious pasta, and for dessert cappuccino and cappuccino pie omg mouth watering. I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Our first visit was a wonderful experience on a sultry summer evening. The main dining rooms are beautifully decorated and air conditioned but a little loud for date night so we chose a table on their large patio, perfectly positioned for people watching. Our waiter (Moe) was charming and engaging and made some excellent recommendations for food and wine. Both were exceptional and very helpful as the menu offerings are quite extensive. Our first visit will not be our last and we left while planning our next visit.

Claudia E.

Yelp
Unbelievable. This restaurante has been here 25 years. The tastier Italian food I had in years and the portions are blown up. Best money we spent. Organic products. Fresh cut veggies. No disappointment here. Very happy Tuesdays 6:30 wine tasting with complementary food $35 per person. We Will be checking it out soon. Our waiter MO as the BEST.

Karen D.

Yelp
My husband and I love excellent homemade Italian food and this restaurant definitely provides it! Everything on the menu is freshly made and absolutely delicious. We chose Mo since our very first dinner at Antonio. He is very knowledgeable about all the food and wine. We love that Mo is very attentive without hovering over us. Further, we have come with friends and they have returned, both with us and other friends.

DaShawn L.

Yelp
Since moving here from Boston last year, I have been trying to find an Italian restaurant with a great selection of wine. I believe I can say, Antonio Ristorante has definitely made a great impression! The ambiance of the restaurant is so Southern Italy to me, I love it. Great selection of dishes and as mentioned, a well put together wine menu. I came here on 4/11/21. From now packed the patio was I figured this would be a good restaurant and boy was it! I do suggest you make reservations as there is limited seating. The only reason this place does not get 5 stars is because the seating is very tight and not much room on the table, if you get a two person table. Other than that, the food is delicious and the staff are very personable! Also, get the calamari as your appetizer

Douglas M.

Yelp
Antonio Ristorante had bee highly recommended. My experience was comparable. The decor and ambiance was simple eleganc; the menu was ample, offering something for every palate, including an excellent wine list. I chose the cioppino, which was served piping hot, filled with an abundant array of seafood, and seasoned perfectly. The waitstaff was professional, helpful, and non-intrudive. If I ever get back to the north Dallas area, Antonio's would be high on my list.

Evelyn D.

Yelp
Updating to add that my boyfriend, dad and I went to Antonio's last night for the first time in more than a month, and Moe still remembered us and asked specifically about my work! Moe is a star and the asparagus fritti is to die for. As is the lobster ravioli. And the lava cake. Honestly, everything. The vibes are immaculate and the food is divine.

Yelp
Still one of my husband Steve and mines fav romantic place One of our first date spots 13 years ago and still a fav!

Jim S.

Yelp
I've been here many times, however this will be my last time. Food took forever and wasn't as good as usual, that happens some times, I can deal However, the final straw was I was sitting at the bar and ordered a glass of wine. The bartender told me they were out but offered me a "comparable wine". It wasn't bad, but when I got the bill I found out it was almost triple the price of the original glass I ordered. How is that "comparable "?????
google avatar

Sej D.

Yelp
Food was just ok. Service was not great but could have been due to large group. Best part of meal was the complimentary bread with olive oil dipping sauce.
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
This was $16. For bland, overcooked chicken and veggies. The chicken tasted like it was precooked and rewarmed due to the refrigerated taste. The sauce was watery to say the least. Adding angel hair would atleast "stretched" the meal. Never again. I should have known better. The restaurant was empty during lunch hour.
google avatar

Yelp
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday this year. I had been eyeing this spot, as my office just moved down the road. Growing up in the Midwest, I became accustomed to family run, local, Italian restaurants that aren't as modern and over the top as most of the Italian places you find in Dallas. This place definitely brought me back to my childhood, with the authentic menu, decor, white table clothes and service. You can tell they have been around for a while and have a strong local following. My boyfriend and I split a bottle of Chianti, which was VERY reasonably priced, and delicious. They compare their wine prices to other high end restaurants and come in significantly cheaper. For a starter, we split the fried asparagus, which was unique and delicious, especially with the goat cheese that warms up from the asparagus. Great table bread with oil & vinegar. For the entree, my boyfriend ordered the Risotto Alla Veneziana, which had incredible flavor. I had the Spaghetti All' Amatriciana, which was light yet hearty at the same time. They provided complimentary tiramisu for my birthday. Great romantic and private dining experience.
google avatar

Rodney W.

Yelp
The one time there should be more Yelp stars! This place is incredible!!! We started with mussels and calamari. It was so good you don't get pictures. Finished with Osso Bucco, Veal Marsala, and Chioppino. Everything was amazing. The service was as good as the food. Izzy was amazing at recommending great wine and providing that extra touch. Can't say enough about the experience.
google avatar

Leena J.

Yelp
Sweet Italian place with a homey vibe and authentic feels all around. Loved the bread and bread sticks prior, I consumed the entire basket- the menu is a beautiful taste of Italy. Truly. Enjoyed the meal and the whole feel. I'll be back.
google avatar

Ethan Z.

Yelp
Great Italian restaurant. Really nice place for a date. Got the meatballs della casa, and they were super flavorful and had great texture. Got the Antonio's Carbonara, which was super creamy and very tasty. I haven't had much real Italian food in my life, but I must say this place is quite exquisite. The dessert menu was very plentiful and delicious. The three-flavor ice cream was very enjoyable. The only complaint I have is that service (post-meal) seemed very slow, even though we were basically the only table in the restaurant. Price I paid was $46-ish after tax and tip for the 3 dishes I ordered.
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
This establishment never fails to hit the mark. The menu is exactly what one would expect from a "white tablecloth" Italian restaurant. The wine selection is very good. The bar is well stocked. The food is always on point. The atmosphere is upscale, but, not stuffy. The waitstaff is courteous, knowledgable, and attentive, without being smothering. In all, this is a great neighborhood bistro that is worth finding.
google avatar

Guy D.

Yelp
How can an Italian place not have decent Lasagna The spaghetti and meatballs were average as well Biggest disappointment was the Teramisu cake, wet at bottom, was defrosted and placed on a plate with icing on top Drinks are ok Order Prosecco with Calamari
google avatar

Terry A.

Yelp
They set the bar for customer service as far as I am concerned. Everyone we came in contact with were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful, there was 5 of us and everyone got something different. Everything tasted great. I already have what I want picked out for the next time we visit.
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
My company had a work dinner here and it was my first time even though I lived in Addison for a year. Tomato / mozzarella starter was very fresh. Loved the balsamic and fresh basil shredded Calamari had great flavor and texture. Nice and crunchy but still moist bites I ordered a dish that was some type of risotto with shrimp, mussels and scallops. The seafood itself was delicious. Not over cooked and good quality fish. The risotto just average. A coworker let me try her fettuccini and I should've ordered a plate. Delicious!! I also had a side of gnocchi and I saw later that I should had a choice of sauces. They served mine with some kind of white cheese sauce.. maybe the gorgonzola? It kind of killed it for me. Gnocchi is best with red sauce in my opinion. Cocktails were all very sweet but strong so my coworkers and I didn't complain. 4 stars for the food but the 5th star for service! All of our servers were attentive to the table without hovering a super friendly. The manager came out to thank us for coming again and was so nice. Would definitely return for date night

Kendall T.

Yelp
Wonderful place!! Such a great ambiance and so comfortable! Me and my friend sat on the patio- it wasn't overly busy which I loved!! The waiter was great- but we also had multiple staff check on us throughout the night. We were some of the last few lingering there on a Thursday and Izzy sent us another glass of wine! So kind! So fun and we will forever rav about this wonderful place! The food was wonderful and perfect portions!

Yelp
UPDATE: the owner replied and left their email to contact. Their way of "making it better" was to argue with me over the service I received and then ignoring me. Poor management and overpriced food. Where do I begin? I booked a reservation thru open book. We were seated promptly, BUT we waited for over 10 minutes for a drink order. By the time he came, we were ready to order dinner. We ordered the lasagna & chicken parmigiana with ONLY Alfredo sauce instead of marinara. Dinner came in about 45 min later, the lasagna literally tatsted like a can of chef boyardee beefaroni baked into the form of a square, no way was that worth $20. The chicken parmigiana with only alfredo sauce came out wrong... they brought alfredo but the chicken was smothered in marinara. So they had to take it back. I watched my husband scrape thru his beefaroni while I waited 20 min for my food to return. Over priced and poor quality. I don't get the hype.

Yelp
Very good food with a nice atmosphere where you can hear your conversation. Great service.

Yelp
Second time here. We absolutely LOVE their patio!! Such a classy, quaint, romantic patio with tables & umbrellas, with lots of greenery and foliage/plants.

Yelp
We enjoy this local favorite. We live in the city and meet our family who live in McKinney in the middle. This is everyone's favorite. Our daughter is Vegan and they always accommodate her special dietary requirements. See you soon Antonio!

Yelp

Yelp
Loved it! We had an awesome meal catching up with great friends. What a perfect night! We had a party of 5 that became seating for 6 on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was buzzing and on the louder side. It took us awhile to order, but we didn't care because it gave us time to catch up. We ordered a few arugula salads, including one which they kindly split in the kitchen. Very fresh and tasty with a nice dressing. Next, we ordered dinner. Yum. I ordered the spicy shrimp over linguini in a red sauce. Amazing! Even though it was late and a large sized portion I ate every bit of it. The bf devoured the spaghetti with pancetta and red sauce. Another raved about the cioppino. Chicken parm with pasta and red sauce was gone. Finally, a special, the dover sole was fileted at the table and delicious. Such a compliment to the chef...not a single bite of food was left on our plates. Just really great food, awesome wine and the best of friends enjoying a few hours together!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's day. We ordered the meatballs for the appetizer and they were very tasty. For our entrees, my boyfriend ordered the bolognese pasta and he really enjoyed it. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana and i was pleasantly surprised on the flavor. It was so delicious and would love to come back for a date night. The service was also exceptional.

Yelp
Let's start with, I love Italian food, so was excited to try out this cute restaurant. Came here for my guests 30th birthday. We made reservations, which wasn't necessary considering it was light on Monday evening. With it being nice fall weather, we choice to set outside. Mark was our waiter and he was nice, informative and super attentive. I started with a moscato wine, followed by their bread. I've learned the bread w/ oil is often a hit or miss. This place, was deff. a hit & I couldn't stop eating it. We then ordered the lobster bites, which came out completely different than what I was expecting. They actually had tiny cups with lobster sulking in a buttery/garlic type sauce. It was amazing. Paired with bread, made it even better. At this point, we were off to a great start. For my entree, I did the Quatro Framagii Ravioli which had a great flavor to it. My only wish was that it had some type of meat, or the option to add crab/lobster with it. That would have really paired well with this dish, but it was delicious none the less. After our plates were boxed, I looked at my guess and asked if they wanted dessert since it was their birthday. We requested the dessert menu and instead we got dessert on the house with a candle. It was super nice and displayed great customer service. Overall, I enjoyed my visit here & would recommend it for a cute date night and/or celebration. I'd like to come back to try their wine tasting as well!
