Yay For A New Pizza Spot Near Cat Club
(That is NOT DNA Pizza)
SITREP
Heading back to Sacramento after hitting the bars or clubbin in SOMA usually has meant "delayed gratification" when it comes to getting a bite to eat.
In terms of timing, if we are lucky to be trucking along I-80 and in the Pinole hood in East Bay on Fitzgerald for In N Out before 1:30am, then that's great. But often we don't leave SOMA until well after 1am-1:30am - way too late. There's always the Jack-in-the-Boxes at Pinole Way, in Vallejo and at Red Top. But do you always want Jack?
So imagine how nice it's been to have Anton's Pizza and Deli (aka "Anton's) as a closeby option now! Sure they close earlier, but at least it's close by to grab before midnight and you don't have to leave (and drive from) the club's "zone".

THE SETUP
The food situation used to be much more bustling in this neck of the woods. But unfortunate things have happend:
* Wicked Grounds is no longer open til 2am with food like it used to be back in the day;
* Local authorities have done a "fine job" of scaring off the hot dog vendors on their little carts just down from the Cat Club front entrance, though none of them ever rose to the level of the hot dog stand at the corner of 7th & Folsom, which "retired."
* DNA Pizza of late has been very disappointing, and much more expensive than it's competition ($6 a slice).
* Chico's is very decent ($4.50 a slice), but it's all the way over on 6th near Market St., and decidedly a concern for the safety of your car (for even 15 minutes to get the pizza) let along NOT a simple trip to FIND parking around there.
So the hassle of finding late night post-midnignt food was a problem for many years.
PIZZZA IN DA HOOD!
Anton's is such a pleasant find of late, just down from the door of Cat Club (my favorite venue in SOMA).
Lots of pizza to choose from, though I'm basically a cheese, pepperoni (sometimes Combo) kind of guy!

I've had bad pizza, but I still go back for the bad pizza - and put up with it - because at 2am, at least it's something to fill the panging hole in your stomach. And as the old saying goes,
"Pizza is like SEX: when it's good, it's REALLY good; but when it's bad, it's STILL pretty good!"
But this isn't bad pizza - it's GOOD pizza - bites from each verified that, and they most definitely & pleasantly hit the spot for us. Now, neither am I gonna bill these slices as "The Second Coming" - but again, GOOD slices, made even better at $4.50 each at slice when you compare to other late night spots charging $6-$7 a slice.
You can certainly do a HELLUVA lot worse in the constellation of pizza stars in SF, and, for me, much further away to get at to boot.
THE LOWDOWN
The pizza is good (not great, but not bad either) and it hits the spot - at 2am, that's the biggest metric I care about.
