Antwerps Sportpaleis

We went here last night. Easy to reach. We had seats. Went to a concert last month at Ahoy in Rotterdam where the view was better. This has nothing to do with the place where our seats were because it was almost the same. But the stairs were steeper so you can look better over the people sitting in front of you. They are sitting much lower than here at the Afas. Also the sound was less good. So as a location for a concert: not bad but also not the best!

Avoid attending concerts here! I have never seen so disorganized event - doors were opened almost an hour late, entrances were barely marked, no lines, no railings, just one big line. Also, no medical staff on site, security was clueless what to do.

Went to see Duran Duran here with my mum, very friendly staff at the venue, drink and food prices are decent. Toilet facilities are vast and clean. Would definitely recommend as a venue type over ones in the Netherlands. If you book a hotel close by you can easily go there by foot. Otherwise public transport will be very busy as many people are using that

Came for Kylie, thank God she was amazing, because the venue was a disaster: no AC, awful sound, clueless staff. It felt like they’d never hosted a show before. Charging these prices for such a pathetic venue is laughable. Maybe focus less on overpriced drinks and more on basic comfort next time.

Had so much fun at pitbull, needs air conditioning like crazy. Staff offered us water at least. Friend of mine had seats and apparently they are very strict about that so watch out. There's only one main entrance so if you want to be at the front of the pit just be there on time.

Went to the (otherwise excellent) stand up comedy show of Xander De Rycke. Big screen behind him containing slideshow had a black vertical bar during a large part of the show. Very amateuristic for a venue like this!

Not many venues of this size are this well organized and easy to reach as "Het sprtpaleis" or now called AFAS dome. If you park your car at spoor oost you just take the walking bridge right up to the venuu. Alternatively you can just take the tram or metro right up to the venue. Security is polite, well organized and deserves some praise. I've come here multiple times for different kinds of events and it always surprises me how smooth things go here.

Ok this arena kinda sucks lol. Has a huge floor so I guess that is good for concert goers who want to be on the floor. The backstage is old and beat. Small rooms. Most without bathrooms. Not an ideal load in/our venue. Takes a while for trucks to get in and out. Sound wise it's a very boomy room. Not the best for concerts. Not sure why I am writing this review haha. Oh well.

The Sportpaleis is Antwerps biggest concert hall. All major artists tend to come here instead of Vorst Nationaal, the main music hall in our capital Brussels. I believe acoustics are better in Antwerp than in Vorst. It can hold maximum 18.400 people and that's A LOT. Imagine traffic around this ugly building... I would never want to live in this neighborhood, but yet this is a very crowded area. Here are some tips... Traffic - AVOID THE CAR - parking is hell and LEAVING the PARKING IS HELL (takes a lot of time) - you must pay, anywhere you park - take the tram! It's also veeery crowded but it's fast. - you can also park a little further and then walk. Please do understand that a little further means like minimum 1 km further, not around the corner. EVERYTHING IS JAMMED around the Sportpaleis, believe me Scheduling - please be on time, if doors open at 18h, there will already be people waiting - if you have standing places, be there when doors open - for seating places count on 30' before the show starts Tickets - look up THE PLAN ONLINE to see where which zone is - don't buy them at the door, there are always people trying to buy & sell tickets but it can happen that they are FAKE (and you don't want that) Sound - please TAKE EARPLUGS. It can be so loud in there! You don't want to waste your ears. - I am used to the acoustics in this hall but if you compare it to for example the smaller AB in Brussels, this sounds "terrible". It's good for big shows but please, if an artist like John Legend for example would be performing here, it wouldn't be rightful. Price - tickets for music shows are very expensive in general but it depends on the artist Food & drinks - it's affordable. You can pay cash at one of the many bars - bars are on level zero and on the first floor - you can eat something indoors but there are also a lot of kebab & pizza places outside the Sportpaleis - generally they don't check your bag so I always take my own bottle of water or something to eat

"Het Sportpaleis" one of the biggest event venues in Belgium. Tickets prices depends on the artists but sometimes you need to hurry for a ticket. SOme of them are sold out in less then 2 hours. For some music concerts you can choose between sitting places and standing places in the middle. I suggest the standing places in the middle because when the concert is good everybody on the seating stands will stand up nevertheless. And they are the cheapest! Parking. I suggest you look up the terminus stops of the tram/metro. For example there is a big parking in Merksem (line 2-3) with enough place and trams leaving every couple minutes. This parking is also very close to the Higway E19 (Breda-Antwerp) The venue itself has good acoustics but as mentioned by others, music can be very loud!

I was here a few weeks ago for a Lionel Richie concert with my wife. I had been here before, albeit years ago. When going to a concert or sporting event, the biggest plus you can have is some place to park. With this place and another venue right next to it (that had another concer on at the same time), parking is pretty much impossible unless you get there very very very very early. It is right off the motorway though, so easy to find. What I like about this place is that you can get food and drinks (with a wine bar/section) there and at a reasonable price. You can get a beer for a few Euros and I'm not talking no paper cup; I'm talking a real beer (Pulp Fiction?). In the USA you'd pay $10+ for a Lite beer. The food is good too, although nothing fancy, but again, reasonably priced. Nice venue overall but nothing really special.

The Sportpaleis is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Merksem, just outside the city center. Despite what its name suggest, the venue isn't often used as a "Sports Arena". The Sportpaleis mainly serves as a concert hall. With a maximum capacity of 23.000 (!), Sportpaleis is not only one of the largest concert venues in Europe but has also been listed as one of the most popular in the world. Easy accessible by public transport, just hop on tram 2,3 or 6 and hop off at the stop "Sportpaleis". U can als take tram 5 but I don't suggest u to take it. It's much farther away and u have to cross a path with poor illumination. Creepiness level +++ ! There's also no need to buy a tram ticket, your ticket for the venue allows u to use freely of trams and buses to and from the Sportpaleis. Just like most of the concert venues, Sportpaleis has a policy of banning professional camera's (SLR, micro 4/3). So it's just gonna be u & ur smartphone. And please don't bring ur iPad! To sum up: a great concert hall for people who live for live music!

Sportpaleis is simply one of the best venues in Belgium for big events. It all started with the Night of the Proms, but there are now so many other events. It is a well olied machine for big events. Parking wasn't a problem but with all works going on, it is a bit more difficult. Best option is to get there by tram. It is still much easier to get there than Vorst Nationaal. Accoustics are also better.
