The Best Restaurants in Beaverton

"Tucked inside an Indian grocery store just a stone’s throw from U.S. Route 26 is essentially a deli counter hawking spectacular curry and rice dishes, along with broad dosas and flavorful samosas. The move here is most definitely the Gongura goat curry, which gets its tart and punchy flavor from sorrel leaves." - Krista Garcia

Google
Mixed Experience, but Worth It for the Mutton Biryani! I recently visited this restaurant with high hopes, especially for their Hyderabadi flavors. Here’s a quick breakdown of my experience: Appetizers: • Apollo Fish was just average. Instead of the usual crisp texture, it came with a gravy-like consistency, which took away from the dish’s expected appeal. • Chicken Majestic (Megistric) was disappointing. It resembled a basic chicken fry and didn’t live up to the authentic Hyderabadi version. Definitely below average. Main Course: • Chicken Dum Biryani had great flavor, but the masala was surprisingly minimal. If you’re ordering this, definitely ask for extra masala to enhance the taste. • Mutton Dum Biryani was the clear winner. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and rich – I’d honestly return just for this dish. Highly recommended! Other Observations: • The portion sizes are generous – definitely value for money when it comes to quantity. • Service is quick, even with the crowd, which is impressive. • Speaking of which, the place tends to be very crowded, and unfortunately, cleanliness isn’t their strong point. The space could use more maintenance. • Plenty of parking available, which is a huge plus. • They also have a wide variety of sweets and desserts, so save room for some after your meal. • Bonus: There’s a grocery section attached with almost everything you’d need, which is super convenient. Overall Verdict: If you’re craving good mutton biryani, this place delivers. However, temper expectations for starters and be prepared for a crowded, not-so-clean environment. Fast service and big portions make it worth a visit – just stick to what they do best.

Located inside an Indian grocery store, authentic South Indian dishes served from a deli counter. Friendly service despite coming in during the lunch rush hour. Very popular spot as there were countless pickup orders being made.

Google
Not worth the wait. If you go, make sure the cashier writes it down for the cooks that you want the food to be medium or mild, otherwise it will be ultra spicy. Today was my second time here. The kitchen is as badly organized as it was months ago. When you think you are ready to order, you'll find out that this, that, and the other thing are not available or that they are going to take 30 or 40 minutes to make. Because of the wait time, they discourage us from ordering any dosa plate. They said they could only make two naans at a time. Essentially, the dosa and naan-production part of the kitchen seems to be on the critical path. Photo: after eating just the fish part of the $14 fish curry special, which came with just one chapati. They took another half hour to make a second chapati. It would have taken another half hour to have them remake a non-spicy version of the curry

Google
Great food at an amazing price to portion ratio. Great flavor in large portion sizes. The chicken fried noodles was my favorite. Waits can be long, so be sure to pre-order online for pickup.

Food is awesome. Biryani is your best bet (chicken/mutton/veg). Good pricing. For appetizers, avoid the wet gravy ones.

Google
We love having snacks or Indian food while going for grocery in this store. Quality was decent but quantity was much for any dishes we had tried so far!

Google
I just shifted to Portland and after trying few Indian food places, my journey completes here…just amazing chicken curry, samosa and yet many things to try, next is Dosa this weekend. Keep it up ACB team.

Amariah Campbell

Google
Love the food! Can't say enough. Might look low key on the outside and inside but let the food talk. And the little grocery store attached is cool. The samosas were so good and so affordable the sauce it comes with is amazing.

Ankit P.

Yelp
The veg biryani was my favorite, great quantity and at a very reasonable price The Samosa was too soft for my liking, and the filing didn't have much, so would definitely pass The Pav bhaji was decent, very authentic and fresh It is self serve, you order at the counter and you'll pickup once it's ready, but they do have tables and a theater room where you can dine. The ambiance of that theater room is nice for sure

Yelp
This is a real deal South Indian place. It's in an office park in Beaverton, and has a market built in. The menu is extensive - unless you're from India, I'd suggest looking before you go. It's a no-nonsense counter situation - you order your food, you get a buzzer, and you get buzzed as your dishes come out. I had the bhel puri, which I loved back when I used to go to Vik's Chaat House in Berkeley. It's a puffed rice dish with tamarind and potatoes. I also got the non-veg thali platter, which is basically a sampler with dal, soup, curries, yogurt, rice, chapati, and dessert. Overall, it's a great experience and clearly embraced by the South Indian community.
google avatar

Sheldon R.

Yelp
We eat here regularly because of it has down to earth good Indian food at surprisingly affordable prices. The vegan thali, for example, is $10.99. And the Tait's is free. It's attached to an Indian grocery.

Kartheek J.

Yelp
Great quantity for affordable price!! Ordered samosa chat, the famous goat biryani and veg biryani. Samosa chat is good and biryanis are very spicy but taste was okay.

Yelp
Food here is a hit or miss. Chapattis that came were not fully cooked. On the other hand Uttapam was pretty good. Chicken curry was poor, Paneer Karahi was great. The rice of Chicken Briyani was fresh and aromatic but the chicken pieces were average. The service speed varies with what you order. I got myself Uttapam which took a good 20 minutes. They would give you Briyani in 5 minutes. The dining area doesn't feel that hygienic.

Yelp
By far the best South Indian food in town! They're always crowded but service is fast. South Indian food tends to be on the spicier side but the dishes are all terrific! The Gobi Manchurian, chicken majestic, and South Indian Thali are all incredible and flavorful - they travel well. They have indoor seating and a charming ambience that is nice during lunch time and also have an Indian grocery store from which you can pick up unique and flavorful spices and condiments! If you're in the area and crave done spicy South Indian cuisine, this of the place to go! Don't miss their puff pastries!!

Yelp
We are regular vegetarian customers and enjoy the healthy food and the fantastic employees who are always helpful and friendly. Last night we tried some different items. Of note the Sambar was delicious, but it seemed absent of lentils and had very few vegetables. All the best wishes.
google avatar

Elle R.

Yelp
The food is fantastic and there's always lots of people here. That said, when you order food online and request a certain time to pick it up, and it's approved for that time, there should be no reason why that food isn't ready when you're there to pick it up. I waited 50 minutes to get my food, which had been ordered an hour earlier. They were nice enough to add another meal for the inconvenience. Good thing since they neglected to put in one of the meals I actually ordered. Here's a suggestion - make your take-out times for after 1:00 since the lunch hour is an absolute chaotic mess!

Yelp
In a sort of nondescript building, this market and Indian cafe deli is a hidden gem. We were looking for some Indian food and having a hard time finding something with dine-in and open Monday evenings, and this place was where we (luckily) ended up. Got here and there was a bit of a line to order at the counter. The menu is on some screens as well as a laminated menu, but the laminated menu included some items they didn't currently have. Line moved quick - we ordered rava masala dosa, butter chicken, and kadai paneer. At the last second we added an order of medu vada. Food came out as it was prepared, we had a little buzzer to notify us when to go for pickup. Everything tasted delicious and we wished we weren't staying in a hotel so we could take back leftovers. Was fun to also walk around the market!

Yelp
No one comes close to this place in quality or selection and the freshness of the food better than any restaurant anywhere best biryani best curry

Yelp
We were in the area and decided to make a detour from our normal Indian place (Indian Connection) to try out Apna Chat. Ample parking and seating with a clean interior, we were excited to try it. Ended up getting a mango lassi (YUM), butter chicken (really good), chicken tikka masala (really good flavor but the chicken has bones, so that was a big knock on it), a couple samosas (great), and they don't have naan bread so we got chapati bread (it was just ok). All in all, I'd give it 4 stars. But without naan bread and with bone-in chicken, I think I'll pass next time and go back to Indian Connection.

Yelp
This Cafe style restaurant sharing the space with the supermarket feels super authentic. When visiting any ethnic food place, I look to see if the customer demographic represents the region, and this place has all the indicators in place. The thali here is fantastic, both non-vegetarian and vegetarian. I also see a lot of dosa being ordered, so that's something that I've also enjoyed. I don't recommend take away for the dosa, as it softens quickly and loses the crispness that you get to enjoy while on site. Some of the chicken dishes are bone-in, so just be mindful of that. Service is lackluster from time to time, but good enough for me to recommend friends to visit this place over and over.
google avatar

Naivit V.

Yelp
This place has the BEST chicken 65 dosas ever. Whether you go in the early morning for a delicious treat for lunch (expect a 20 minute wait - it's is not fast food, it's homemade and delicious) or order for take out - a little longer of a wait, it is definitely worth it. I also got the vegetable puff, delicious and vegetarian. The pastries are also great especially if you're in need of a sugar fix! The staff is efficient and they get your food to you as quickly as they can - you can tell this is a very busy place so keep that in mind, patience is a must to get to eat this amazing cuisine!
google avatar

Luke D.

Yelp
Listen, for giving up service you get a great cheap and authentic meal. People have to be cognizant of what you're getting when you come here. If you embrace that then it's going to be a great experience.
google avatar

Ankita G.

Yelp
On the way back home, I stopped to check this bazar/restaurant out and while I'm usually disappointed by white-washed flavors, this joint did not disappoint! I didn't even ask for my Gongura chicken to be made extra spicy (started doubting for a sec while waiting) and they still kept it authentically flavorful with actual peppers. The cakes, chicken & mutton puffs are sending me to heaven rn. Also, amazed at how affordable most menu items are, especially the CAKES omg. It's not hard to believe why this place is always busy with South Asian customers. The wait is SO worth it. Got me checking out some "LEGENDARY JHINGA" (Turia) and other South Asian produce in the meanwhile. Authentic South Asian joints should be everywhere tbt. Flavor ho to aise!
google avatar

Mykel B.

Yelp
I see most negative reviews about time. This place is always busy so it's going to take a bit. For the quality and taste you get is well worth it. The food is out standing. By far the best of this kind anywhere around Portland greater area
google avatar

Natalie F.

Yelp
Tasty, cheap, authentic. What more could be asked for? We've been here several times and the food is always great. It's busy and loud, so not exactly a romantic atmosphere, but that's not something I look for when I'm hungry. The dosas are good.
google avatar

Samson Joseph D.

Yelp
What kind of brain dead system is this, when the lady answers the phone and asks me to wait for 2 minutes and makes me listen to others placing orders at the store for 5 mins straight. If you can't take the order don't answer the phone. Or don't give commitments you can't keep like, can you wait for 2minutes? WHAT A NIGHMARISH EXPERIENCE!! Never calling this place again.
google avatar

Tawnie G.

Yelp
That 3 star rating is wrong-- this place is awesome Indian Street food. Soooo many options to choose from and the flavor is absolutely insane! The only small things that went wrong were 1) they were out of numerous dishes we tried to order (which I usually do understand because it shows they're cooking fresh) but really 2) we ordered two puffs, which we wanted to take home for later, and didn't receive these with our meal (and didn't realize until we left). But otherwise, yea this place is pretty perfect, super flavorful, big portions & very fast!
google avatar

Jina M.

Yelp
Review just for the goat dum biryani. WOW SO TASTY. SO DELICIOUS. The best biryani I have had in the west coast. So much amazing flavor. Not too wet. Not too greasy. Not too salty. Not sure why the other reviews are so low but man. SO DELICIOUS! No more explanation necessary.
google avatar

Lakshman K.

Yelp
The Thali here is the best in portland hands down ! Today the okra curry in the Thali was divine. Love coming to this place.
google avatar

Shane W.

Yelp
The food here is full of deep rich flavors and everything we got was of fantastic quality. The medu vada came with two very tasty dipping sauces. The chicken 65 was just popping with flavor. The tikka masala was one of the best I've ever had, creamy and rich. The goat curry too was of the highest quality. We just had two minor issues with our experience. Firstly the ordering is a little odd, if you order online they text you when they start making the food but not when it's done. And the organization at the counter was a little confusing but we got our food in the end. The other issue was the spice level. I typed in the instructions "Extra spicy" but these dishes were definitely in the mild-medium range. It's a pity because the goat curry especially could have been so much better wifh the heat turned up a few notches.

Guy S.

Yelp
Seems very improved. ! Great rice, great amount of chicken, great service. I'll keep coming back.
google avatar

Aditi B.

Yelp
Apna Chat is a go to for Indian food cravings! Not gonna lie, I'm a fan of their Goat biryani which really is G. O. A. T! We have tried Pav bhaji, Medu vada, Dosa, Uttapam, Noodles, and everything is delicious. Special mention : South Indian Coffe it is as close as you can get to the authentic coffee you get in south India. The service is quick, the spice levels are taken care of, you get extra raita if you ask for it. The ambience is decent but we choose to order to go, so we can relish the food even on the next day. Trust me, it's that good, happy lunching! :)
google avatar

Prashanth N.

Yelp
Hyderabad Dum Biryani is the best there, plenty of vegetarian, non-vegetarian options, and also deserts (cakes, sweets etc.) The staff is always nice, welcoming, somethings can get overwhelmed during Indian rush hour.
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
It's not a restaurant it's not a hole-in-the wall, in some ways it is an Indian grocery store's deli section except that it occupies about half the grocery store. But what it has going for it is great value, great portions and a whole host of ethnic nationals going in there! To me that screams authenticity. The options are fairly vast with a larger offering of vegetarian, dishes many of which you could find if you ate at an Indian lunch buffet. I saw many couples just ordering one dish it was so large it could easily feed two people and apparently does. The combo is dine in only which makes sense with so many different varieties. As you can see from my attached photo, unless you're starving you'll be hard-pressed to finish it. The spicy options definitely had a strong amount of heat, and the butter chicken was nice and fresh with an entire chicken thigh. All in all really tasty great value great portions in a very laid-back setting, I'm a fan.

Yelp
The kachoori chat was my fav. Bhel pori had no Bhel And rava dosa was very sad Their sweets looked really good thou

Yelp
Horrible restaurant, even horrible attitude of the servers , people at the counter. They sell their name on basis of biryanis . We ordered veg biryani today along with masala dosa and chicken Tikka masala. While dosa was ok, the chicken tikka masala was ridiculous. Chicken was half cooked - difficult to chew , looked like they just dropped chunks of chicken pieces in tomato gravy .. no trace of tikka masala. It sounded more as chicken tomato masala. On the name of chapati they give frozen chapati heated in the machine. They can't make a chapati. Worst part - the biryani they couldn't deliver the order within 35 minutes of waiting while several other customers got their orders same as ours and also delivery orders of same biryanis what we ordered .. When countered on the delay the server kept saying 5 minutes and so on. Never got the order to go or even dine in there . The lady at the billing counter - a regular offender in showing poor attitude while taking orders on the phone said I should wait for long time .. Worst part of this restaurant is they have poor attitude and they hardly accept their mistakes . One pissed customer doesn't matter to them because there are 100s of people who would just take biryanis despite poor attitude from the owners and servers .. Avoid the restaurant.. quality of food is pathetic, the attitude is even more pathetic and cleanliness is not just there.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
I have had only their masala dosa here and it was decent but not the best. It is difficult to find places with good masala as this one was a little bit watery and caused the dosa to get a little bit soggy where it was touching. However the rest of the dosa was thin and crunchy. The accompanying tomato and coconut chutneys and sambar were good. As a dosa lover, it is difficult to find the same dosa's I have had in Tamil Nadu, but this would probably be good option for Portland. The price is decent and portion is quite large. The atmosphere is very casual and reminds me of a crowded canteen.. In the past I have ordered veg biriyani but they have given me goat/lamb biryani which was disappointing since I don't eat either. By the time I realized this, I was already home. Usually this place is busy and they move fast, so I would recommend to check order to make sure it is correct as this almost happened a second time! Also many of the menu items listed are unavailable, so it would be good to confirm beforehand if looking for specialty curries. Overall this is a decent dosa/South Indian place for Portland standards.
google avatar

Arya T.

Yelp
Food is good. But the service is getting bad. Made a order online said the pick up time was 4:50pm get there at 5:00pm. Walk up to the counter and the lady said it will be 10 min, I wait 15min as I can see nothing is done, walk up to the counter and it's still not finished and get told o it will be a few more minutes. 50 min past my pickup time and it's still not done. It has to be the most disorganized system I have seen. Nothing is remotely efficient about their system.
google avatar

Alekhya V.

Yelp
Been visiting this place for about 4 years now.. sometimes for quick evening Indian snacks and sometimes for a dinner or lunch. This place is consistent with its taste of food. We usually enjoy their vegetarian Biryani, Noodles, fried rice and their Pav Bhaji. My recent favorite has been their cauliflower Manchurian! Soooo good, I'm obsessed!
google avatar

Sai R.

Yelp
Ordered couple of goat biryani for pick up, At the beginning tried calling the restaurant and waited for atleast 20 min for someone to pick the call ! Here's the actual drama started , I've been informed that pick up will be ready in 30 min at 2:58 PM , waited in parking lot till 4:15 PM that's when I picked my food ! Taste wise biryani is good but the service sucks , atleast hoped for someone to tell they're out of goat biryani and it takes time !! If you're planning to order biryani , please allow yourself 90 mins prior to the ordering! Hope this helps fellow Yelp reviewers !!
google avatar

Anasooya G.

Yelp
We like their food, especially the goat biriyani, goat curry, all sweets are really good. But my recent experience was not quite great. We ordered goat curry and fried rice on June 26th, 2022 from their catering menu. We ordered the one says for 25-30 people, but we could barely feed 18 people. I blindly trusted their suggestion on how much to order and feel silly about it now. It was upsetting not being able to offer enough food to our guests.
google avatar

R T.

Yelp
Enjoyed a couple delicious dosa. lol forward to exploring more items in the future. Yum yum.

Jesse Y.

Yelp
It's my first time visit of Apna Chat Bhavan. Being unfamiliar with Indian cuisines, I went with menu item names that I know the meaning of, haha.... I ordered veg noodle and chicken fried rice. Both are exceptionally wonderful and delicious! 5 stars for the food 4 stars for the interior and service I would definitely go back and try other items on the menu.

Jonny L.

Yelp
Pro tip: make sure you drive around a little because google maps or apple maps doesn't show it correctly. THIS PLACE IS TOTALY WORTH IT. Dosas are GREAT! If you haven't had dosas, please try it! Their chats are tasty as well. HUGE portions, and they specialize in takeout - so order up and be ready to take stuff home! We tried the masala dosa, the onion dosa (I forget the name) two curries (paneer masala, and something else). Also one of their chats. Totally doesn't deserve 3 stars. 5/5 stars, 10/10 will eat here again!
google avatar

S.C. S.

Yelp
Love the casual, unpretentious, clean food court setting in an Indian grocery store. The portion was (overly) generous. We had the Goat Biryani and chai, both were fresh and delicious, but are on the mild side for Indian food. I wish there is slightly more flavor. They have a huge dessert selection, so make sure you save some room for dessert.

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Thai is the real deal folks. If you know anything about real Indian food and have grown up eating it with your family and friends you would know that Apna is legit and is hands down the best we have in Portland for South Indian food and they do an excellent job making North Indian food...this is coming from a Punjabi too!
google avatar

Randal I.

Yelp
Most curries are bland, but the biriyani is amazing! How do they put so much in such a small container? It truly is like magic!
google avatar

Francisco M.

Yelp
Can an Indian place get any better then this. A quick lunch or dinner then go get some groceries or snacks for later. And if you go in just to shop for something authentic for your supper, how can you resist the aroma coming from the kitchen? Great place for Indian food.
google avatar

Tannu S.

Yelp
A grocery store cum cafe cum restaurant. I liked their puff and samosa but the veg thali, malai Kota or even veg noodles were below ordinary. Though their tea and mango lassi were okay. I might never be coming back for food here. So, we may grab puff or samosa while doing groceries but wouldn't advocate them for full meals. Though, our friends have recommended them for their quantity food but I don't think they serve any quality in that menu. I would rather eat somewhere else for better quality food than quantity. PS: the place is very untidy, and one may catch a bad stomach while eating here.
google avatar

Sal D.

Yelp
I came back the next day and had Goat Biriyani--only available on weekends An enormous plate of food, easily enough for three people. Deeply flavorful with some nice, residual heat. Chunks of fall-off-the bone goat meat...and bone, so mind your molars. Topped with sliced red onion, cilantro, and half a hard boiled egg. I don't typically opt for rice dishes, but this was a winner! It was very hard to stop eating this dish, but somehow I found the self-restraint to put my fork down a fetch a doggie bag box.
google avatar

Rashi T.

Yelp
Average Indian fare , nothing special but a lot of variety. We usually grab a quick bite if we are shopping at the grocery store next door but never really want to go that far just for the food. Their Biryani is pretty good but can be spicy for some however if you can handle the heat , its worth a try. They do have a lot of street food items that can be a hit or a miss in terms of taste . Its definitely not authentic Indian food but a very commercialized version of it , for easy serving and catering .My hubby loves their veg puffs which I have heard a lot of other people also recommend. The sweet section looks pretty unappetizing specially with a lot of food coloring dominating the shelves . The prices are a little high compared to other places in the area but portion sizes are huge.
google avatar

Yelp
Apna Chat is the best Indian Food in the Portland Metro Area. I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Bring it. I'll warn you that the decor is...lacking. The attached store can be noisy. That being said, the prices are quite reasonable, especially since you'll receive enough food to choke a yak. A large yak. Also, obviously, everything (I've tried) is delicious. I'm a particular fan of the Dosa Chicken 65, which easily feeds two people. HOWEVER- do not attempt this dish unless you're a seasoned Spicemaster, and/or a masochist. I'm not yucking your yum- just cautioning the tongue meek and chili inexperienced. Looking at you here, Karen. If you're down for the pain, but need an out, get the mango lassi to help control the burn. Maybe pick up one to go for the, uhm, Ring Of Fire you'll experience in 8-12 hours... And yes, it's quite a slog out to Beaverton, but I'm telling you that's it's *worthit.*
google avatar

Meg D.

Yelp
This food is AMAZING! It just looks like a basic deli, but don't let that fool you. The flavors and textures are some of the best, and it's CHEAP!
google avatar

Catherine C.

Yelp
My mouth does a happy dance upon consuming their chicken biryani and their sauces are pretty tasty. They also have lovely fried savory treats and a ton of sweets that are not to be missed. I come here at least 4 times a year and it's never bad, though it can be crowded, so order online or by phone if you're getting take out - or take the time to peruse the attached market!

Sarah D.

Yelp
Super good Indian food ! Good prices , really authentic . Worth the drive across town.

Venkat G.

Yelp
We tried their Idli and Sambar and it was horrible! We are south Indians too and know what it should taste like. The sambar had no flavor, and the Idli was dry and very salty Each plate comes with three idlis but we were not even able to finish one. Probably cooked by someone who doesn't know anything about South Indian food.

Yelp
One of the best Indian restaurants in Oregon. Same consistence taste snd they are prompt with order specifications.
