"Built in 1907 by the same architect who designed the National Theatre and Hallgrímskirkja church, Apotek is full of historical resonance. The Art Nouveau–style building was once the country’s largest edifice and served as the city’s primary pharmacy from 1930 to 1999, a distinction that gave the hotel its name when it opened in 2014. The property’s 45 rooms blendelements of the past while seamlessly incorporating modern design touches, employing neutral colors, parquet floors, and simple-but-refined furnishings to create a sense of calm; subway-tiled bathrooms with walk-in showers have a bright, clean look. You don’t have to wander far to enjoy one of the busiest watering holes in Reykjavik: Apotek Kitchen + Bar is a hot spot for artisan beverages, where cocktail “pharmacists” craft potions for every ailment. Bonus: Not only does it overlook the Austurvöllur park, it’s just around the corner from the Icelandic Punk Museum."
Great location and very comfortable room with safe and refrigerator. Beautiful walk in shower with towel warmer. Wonderful breakfast buffet and upscale restaurant. Front desk staff very friendly. |My room on 2nd floor was very warm (no air conditioning) had to leave the window open. Only problem was I could not have the window open at night because of the noise on the street below (not traffic noise, it was young people having fun). Would recommend.

I enjoyed my stay, modern comfortable room, with very nice walk-in shower with towel warming rack. Room has safe and refrigerator. Staff at front desk were very friendly and helpful. The location is great; you can walk almost everywhere. I was with a group of 16 on a 12-day tour of Iceland, and we spend the last 3 nights here. The breakfast buffet was very good. My only issue was the room was very warm; I was able to open a window which helped cool the room down in the day, but at night the window had to be closed because of the street noise. I would recommend the Apotek Hotel.||

Small-ish rooms, but nice. Don't know if there are ice machines, but I didn't find any. Windows that actually open, and my favorite part is that there was a fan in the room in the closet. Mini fridge works, but you should probably turn it up when you get there and also leave the cabinet door open because it gets overheated. Friendly, helpful staff. Great location. Restaurants & bars close. 7-11 store that's open 24 hours for food & convenience store items half a block away.
Half the price of the hotel across the park from it (which we stayed at last summer and was nice). Showers have great water pressure & the water is clean, delicious, & cold out of the faucet. :)

This was a fantastic hotel for the one night we stayed (prior to a cruise). The front office staff went above and beyond in helping us secure last minute transportation from the hotel to the cruise port. The room itself was larger than I anticipated; which was a pleasant surprise. The accommodations were also very comfortable. I would not hesitate booking there again. Highly recommend!

The front desk staff were all excellent! They even offered to ship some things to the post office and ship them home to the states. Their brunch is very nice. The hotel is centrally located and walkable to everything.

Extremely loud hotel. As in there is a nightclub that shares a wall with the rooms. I am not one to complain but you a run a risk of getting one of these rooms.
To make matter worse when I complained, they showed no compassion or willingness to relocate or even give a small token refund gesture. They told me to write into management which is there way of saying once you are you are gone they will not do anything. I never heard back from them. I will never stay at this hotel ever again.

The hotel is centrally located in the city and close to all touristy things. The staff is helpful and welcoming. Rooms are clean, with a small fridge and decent bathroom size. With 2 large luggages the room was tight but we managed. I will say that the parking situation needs to be better explained to guest. Street parking by the hour is expensive but I believe you stop paying after 2100. Front desk staff encouraged us to park in the city hall which is less expensive so I would consider looking into that but note the garage opens at 7am. Additionally, there is a sauna and hot pool offered to guests in the neighboring sister hotel.

Lovely hotel with clean, spacious rooms in a very convenient area downtown. We didn’t have the opportunity to have dinner there but breakfast was delicious. And a huge thank you to the staff for mailing my five year old sons stuffed whale back to us!
