Apple Butter Cafe Review - Covent Garden - London - The Infatuation

"This cute little Monmouth Street cafe has a special place in our hearts. Not because the food is going to blow you away, but because it’s just so reliable. Need a lunch spot you don’t have to book in advance? Sorted. Need somewhere quiet for an intimate catch-up in Covent Garden? This is the place. In the mood for some homemade ice tea and baked porcini pasta while you take your laptop out and pretend to do some work? Go ahead. Want to actually do some work? It’s good for that too. It’s the sort of place you head to for the convenient location and velvet sofas, and stay for the relaxing environment and tasty food." - Rianne Shlebak

It’s a diner, like a real diner. If you’re solo they do have a very nice counter seating area with stools and TV’s. The service was perfect and the coffee was good. I do like my coffee a bit stronger but it was a good cup. Our food was terrific although the omelet was a bit mushy……. don’t know how to explain it better than that. It was definitely not short on fillings and was good just a different texture. Enjoyed the home fries a-lot. Our server was very nice and the coffee was never empty.

Google
What a great local gem! They’re very accommodating to gluten free diets. I got a gluten free BLT and it was great. My husband loved his breakfast as well. Our server Denise was amazing! You can tell she loves her job. We will be back!

Google
Very friendly staff and the service was amazing. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich with a side of pasta salad. The sandwich was larger than my hand. Hand breaded and fresh. The pasta salad was homemade and wonderful as well. I would definitely go back as the food was amazing!

Google
Everything here was great.. I had the 2+2+2. Which is 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 sausages. I could hardly finish it, and everything was awesome and very reasonable. My wife had the meatloaf, and it was about as home cooked as you could get. The only reason why I dropped a couple of stars on the atmosphere. Seventies music was playing, which I love, I grew up in that era. But trying to relax having a nice brunch...Listening to Jethro Tull Aqualung. Kind of made it hard to swallow your food with that song on 🤣

Google
I've fallen for this place. Have eaten here before during busy times and decided to try during the week and what a treat. The food was delicious, plentiful, very affordable, and of good quality. The grits qre outstanding and there's the name sake in the table, good-ole apple butter. Yum 😋 Denise attended to me and what professional, courteous, and personable service she provided. She was fantastic! A definite return. Thanks so much.

Google
Absolutely amazing place. The food is huge and cooked perfectly. Many unique and delicious food to try. The picture of the pork tenderloin does not come close to doing it justice. The biggest pork tenderloin I have ever seen. It was cooked perfectly and the breading was amazing. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. The apple butter is also delicious, like straight from the orchard

Google
Our party of 9 tried this place for breakfast. First of all our service was beyond awesome. Our food was fresh and very tasty. The prices were reasonable for the amount of food received. Must try fried tomatoes !! Everything tasted really good. We will be back again when in the area. Thank you !

Google
Apple Butter Cafe was a pleasant surprise. We were just driving by & came across this establishment. Very popular with the local. Crowded, but we got a seat easily. Food AMAZING!!!!! I got the Sunrise Cuban...delicious 😋. Grits...milky & creamy. Service was good. Staff singing with the music 🎶🎵. Love & recommend this location 💯%

Yelp
this place is amazing! the food is reasonably priced and we've never had a bad meal! this has become our new favorite place! all of the servers are wonderful, Sherry specifically has been a highlight for us! she is professional, personable, patient, attentive. A+ all around!

Yelp
A really nice non-chain diner ... had a great breakfast! Lots of seating, booths and tables on a checkerboard floor, and a counter you could sit at as well. Their bowls seem popular.. I had one of their Benedict choices... although not technically a Benedict, the "Cowboy Benedict" combines biscuits and sausage gravy with poached eggs (plus sausage patties). My wife had an omelette with Swiss and Spinach. The home fries are nicely cooked and not at all greasy. Everything was well prepared and flavorful. Oh, and the Apple Butter is fantastic on sourdough. Service was what you would hope for in a diner.., swift, professional and friendly. Coffee mugs never went empty!

Yelp
This was a disappointment. I read the reviews and insisted on spending with the locals. I was excited to see That they have outside seating but as I got closer I realized that the space was unkept and looked like a last resort option. Tip: if you're going to have outdoor seating make it look inviting by keeping it tidy and welcoming. Once seated inside we noticed how filthy the window sill was with lots of little dead flies and Ketchup splashed on the sun shade. We looked at each other and the vote was unspoken "Let's Go". It was unfortunate but a no for us!
google avatar

Alexus N.

Yelp
Apple Butter Cafe is wonderful, except for their apple butter! I was excited to try it but was saddened in disappointment. It tastes like apple sauce... My biscuits and gravy were tasty though! The biscuits were fluffy, and the gravy was definitely "the gravy on top". You can select your protein, and I chose the Santa Fe sausage. The home fries, OMG, the crispiest. Probably the best I've ever had! My friends enjoyed their classic benedicts. The interior reminds me of an old school diner. Lots of red and black and white. I dig it! Our server was welcoming and did a great job. Must try if you're looking for a classic diner style meal!

Yelp
My favorite breakfast in Florida! My husband and I came here on the last morning of our vacation and it did not disappoint! We immediately noticed the homemade apple butter sitting on the table. It was more of a sauce-consistency but great flavor regardless. For my breakfast, I ordered the cowboy omelet which was stuffed with plenty of sausage, onions and melty cheese. My favorite part was the country gravy it was topped with. If you put it in a bowl, I could eat it like a soup, it was that good! And those grits!! I'm from the northeast where we do not have these so I decided to try them and OMG; I absolutely loved them!! I already want to come back here on our next trip to Florida! :)

Yelp
Haven't experienced this place since it was trips diner. But man apple butter cafe is wayyyy better. We got our meals to go but they did the dang thing. That pork tenderloin was cooked to perfection. The potatoes were seasoned well. They serve apple butter in little to go cups for your biscuits and man did they not disappoint. They were fast and efficient with getting our food packed up that by the time I got there, they had it all bagged up and ready to go. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Alyssa M.

Yelp
The omelet here was amazing! The fruit wasn't the best, but not bad either. The potatoes were a bit too greasy for me, so I wouldn't recommend those. The biscuit with apple butter was good! The service was incredible and the atmosphere is cute, but nothing special. It's a nice place for breakfast, very much a casual little diner.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
My first time here. I decided to go big and order the country fried steak and eggs and it was absolutely delicious! The country, gravy was one of the best I've had with the right combination of sausage and black pepper. You can have the fries either with caramelized onions or without. I chose the caramelized and was very happy with my choice. Sherry, my server, was so friendly and awesome and recommended the marbled rye toast, which I bought. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Luisa J.

Yelp
Came here randomly for brunch and it was great! I ordered the veggie scramble with added ham and my bf ordered the country fried steak. Both were tasty and a great price. Service here was friendly and attentive!

Steven B.

Yelp
Excellent! Everything was hot and delicious. Very attentive staff. Definitely try the homemade cornbread was outstanding

Vegan S.

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance- this place has it all and some! Excellent menu options, quality ingredients, general portions, well priced, and caring staff! The people here are amazing. They enjoy what they do. They treat you well and make you feel loved! I'd be back again and again. Also, they have the BEST apple butter I ever had. Give this place and try and you will become a regular very quickly!!!!
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
quick wait time and very friendly staff! lots of options and came out fast! food tasted great and it was a cute and cozy environment!
google avatar

Theresa D.

Yelp
Went here for breakfast & the food was good. I enjoyed the breakfast burrito & would definitely get it again. Tip: no hash browns on the menu. But they do have gluten free bread as an option for toast.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast and lunch menu. Always hot, fresh and great taste! Perfect location across from Home Depot.

Simone C.

Yelp
Wow! I have ordered from here for pick up a few times, and finally just had the chance to eat in person. I am blown away. This is great quality, delicious food, at great prices. This is my favorite place for breakfast in pinellas county. We went to Bern's last night, and this breakfast blew that food out of the water! Cannot wait to come back.
google avatar

Kristen S.

Yelp
Really good food like it's predecessor. I got the shrimp and grits along with sausage and a pancake. All were so amazing! The pancake was a nice mix of sweet but tangy, three grits were creamy and buttery and the shrimp was well seasoned. I would definitely order from here again. Must try!
google avatar

Diane H.

Yelp
Delicious food that taste homemade with good portions. This place is always busy which is a good sign. I had a short stack pancake which was just one but it was the size of the plate.
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
We've been going to this place for quite a while, even when it was TripsTrips sold and one of the servers that works there, Shannon, bought it. They have solid breakfasts, great atmosphere, attentive service, and very friendly. Next time you're there, say hello to Shannon. I'm sure she will appreciate it. Also, the apple butter on every table is her mothers recipe. At least I believe that's what she said. Highly recommend. Anyway, give it a try because they haven't lost anything since trip sold it.

Paige E.

Yelp
Cute cafe! The food was delicious and large portions for the price. Lots of breakfast and lunch choices both served all day.
google avatar

Stacey H.

Yelp
Good food. Service was good .and we will try it again. Outside dinning looked great but it was windy so we didn't try it

Diane R.

Yelp
Very good food and great service. They were open and very pleasant during Hurricane Milton. No one was upset that they were there working right after a hurricane. They had electricity and took care of us as we had no electric. Good people here and great food! Thank you!
google avatar

Jesse B.

Yelp
Threw me for a loop when I saw the new sign up and Tripp's was no more. So I swung in to see if anything changed. A lot was similar but different enough where it felt like a new restaurant. The rumor is an employee bought the place and revamped it, and I love that storyline if true. The thing you get right away is that they really nail the basics. Perfect bacon, over medium eggs not too runny, etc. First visit was a success, looking forward to exploring the new menus more.
google avatar

Laura J.

Yelp
Worst breakfast I have had in a long time. The coffee wasn't even that great. We had the Berry Blast Crepes. The crepes were cold and rubbery - almost inedible. The fruit inside was ok but it's hard to ruin fruit. We also had a feta/spinach quiche which was cold and the feta was indiscernible. The only word to describe the hash brown casserole is "disgusting"! It was cold and obviously a left-over from the precious day and the same can be said for the home fries. Worst of all was that this inedible breakfast cost $35. We left for "second breakfast" at First Watch!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Stopped by first time since they changed ownership. We had western omelette which was huge and apple butter cafe special grilled cheese with apples and bacon. Both were very good as well as the service by Olivia. Based on size of portions and prices a very reasonable place to go.
google avatar

Julie T.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast! The fruit crepes and fried grits were fantastic! Olivia was our server, friendly and quick service. And...the women's restroom was clean.
google avatar

Jamie A.

Yelp
Very happy we chose to come here! In the same location where Trip's Diner used to be, one of the waitresses bought this building to open Apple Butter Cafe. It was so packed when we got there (noon on a Saturday) I had to park next door! But we got seated right away. Menu is huge, lots to choose from, I had a hard time deciding! The breakfast menu alone was very big, which I was happy with, I like selection! Every table has a jar of apple butter on it, which I thought was a cute touch and it was yummy. The bacon was thick cut and absolutely delicious. Have to go back and try their lunch menu. Only open til 3 so make sure you get in early!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
My first time at the new restaurant. It feels very similar to Tripp's. Great service. I sat at the counter, no wait. Fairly busy. I tried the burger, wow. Very, very good. I had mine medium with cheddar and a side of fries. I liked Tripp's burger. Thought this was noticeably better!
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
The Apple Butter Cafe takes you back to a simpler time when people took the time to acknowledge each other, make eye contact, and share a smile. I was there on the first Saturday the cafe was open. There was a line out the door, and everyone was working hard, but not in a stressful manner. You could tell everyone working was really happy to be there and what they were part of. Shannon even came out to greet us. I had the breakfast quesadilla and my mother had the veggie breakfast bowl. They were both huge portions and delicious. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie from their bakery case on the way out. My only regret was not buying two.

Douglas M.

Yelp
Ordered eggs soft scrambled, bacon crisp - got neither. Eggs overcooked, bacon under to the point they looked like they just waved at grill on way to plate. Sad contrast from last visit - maybe cooks day off? Toast was good. Will try once more before giving up.

Yelp
Great brunch I went to today at about 11:30. The place was filled up, and I can see why. The menu is deceiving in that the prices are cheap, but I had a top-notch real grouper sandwich (before noon) for $12.95. A steal. For the quality and size of the grouper sandwich, you're looking at *market price ($30-45) anywhere else. Try it out. Cool ownership, great service, a kind of New Jersey- New York diner atmosphere, and a fantastic central location not far from downtown St. Pete in the heart of Seminole. I'll be going back!

Kiki E.

Yelp
Love this place! The owner and employees are always exceptionally friendly, and the food tastes great and home cooked. The cheesy grits are a personal favorite. While so many establishments seem to cut corners these days, Apple Butter stands out for great quality and flavor and at an affordable price. Recommend!
google avatar

Angela H.

Yelp
menu looked great , we were seated, and waited and waited- finally the table next us complained about their food taking so long. The waitress told them that they were down a cook. She turned to us and said "I'm not allowed to take any more orders.. you can stay or go" So we went.
google avatar

Linda N.

Yelp
Was there this morning with my group "Seminole Ladies Club", all 19 of us!! Our waitress, Mary (shown in pic) was wonderful. She took care of all of us with a smile l!!! ....,,oh, the food was awesom, of course.
google avatar

Debbie T.

Yelp
If I could give 10 stars I would. We were a group of 7 and had breakfast. Karen was our server and was AMAZING! We all had different options and everyone said everything was great. I had the benefict and it wad perfect! Hubby had the chopped steak breakfast and raved about it. We will definitely be back soon!
google avatar

Shaun R.

Yelp
Ever since the new owners took over this place is awful. Bad service and the food quality isn't great anymore either.

Judy C.

Yelp
We were told to find our own table as they were short staff. We did not receive menu and server was irritated that we were not ready to order. Food was ok but presentation was sloppy. Could not get attention of server for coffee refills and had to track down someone to get our bill then wait for someone to take payment. Will not be returning.

Jen S.

Yelp
The food was mediocre. The tables floors & chairs weren't very clean. Our server was really nice though.

Mariah L.

Yelp
THE food was Fantastic I never thought I would find a place that has the best service and the best food but this place really reached above my expectations!!! My server was sherry and she displayed excellent customer service, she was constantly attending to our table and was extremely polite. I also spoke with the owner Shannon and she was so great and nice she definitely deserves all the credit this place is incredible!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Glorimar W.

Yelp
Seemed busy when we pulled in but we were seated immediately! We ordered breakfast roles, a side of hash brown casserole and coffee. Everything was delish!!! Super clean place, great service. Cute breakfast spot!!! Highly recommend.

Katherine W.

Yelp
great place for breakfast! I had the pumpkin pancakes; they were wonderful. the bacon was really good too. good service and friendly folks.

Julia S.

Yelp
Went for take out today at 11:45 and the restaurant wasn't busy. Ordered tuna on rye toast with lettuce tomato & bacon. Server at entrance asked, "on a croissant?" No, i replied, on rye toast. I asked if the french fries were the same recipe as Tripps. She said, "no." so I said no to french fries. I got watery tuna on a soaked croissant with a lettuce leaf, and a tomato slice you could read braille through. Oh yes, and mediocre french fries. I have been there under the new regime several times for breakfast with my brother. There seems no middle middle ground. Either good or so not good. And I, my friends, would rather bet on sure thing. So no more Apple Butter cafe.
google avatar

Henry W.

Yelp
This is like a neighborhood restaurant where the people are extremely friendly. The food is very good and reasonable priced.

Evelyn G.

Yelp
My friend and I had breakfast the other morning at Apple Butter Cafe in Seminole. We enjoyed our breakfast. The food was good - fluffy omelet for me with fruit and a nice piece of whole wheat bread. My friend had a delicious avocado toast with poached eggs ( he got an extra egg) and tomato slices. Service was friendly and immediate. The restroom was neat and very clean. Wastepaper baskets cleaned out from the previous day. Prices were reasonable, too. We will be visiting again.

John M.

Yelp
This place is Great!! New owner and very involved with the customers. Food was very good and the service was exceptional! Definitely recommend going there.

Andre G M.

Yelp
Just WOW!! Flew in from Chicago yesterday and needed a breakfast restaurant to start the day. I must say, Apple Butter Cafe DID NOT disappoint. Everything was fresh, hot and tasty the next time I'm in town I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Linda J.

Yelp
Love that an employee purchased this from the previous owner and made it their own. The menu is fresh and always busy no matter what time of the day. Will definitely visit again.

Melanie K.

Yelp
Sometimes a wait but always worth it. Consistently good food! Very cute decor and clean. Friendly staff. This place is in our regular rotation.

Elena S.

Yelp
This was our first time at Apple Butter Cafe. The food was really good. I had a burger with fries and my spouse had an omelette. Service was prompt and super friendly. We will be back!

Vlora I.

Yelp
Service was disrespectful. If a customer says excuse me, the least a server should do is stop and face them directly to speak with the customer to see what they need. Instead, he kept his back to us and continued cleaning his table while I requested what I needed. Felt like I was talking to his behind and not his face. Very disrespectful. If there's no good respectful service from a server, then it completely ruins the meal.
