I had a great experience at Apple Jade! From the second I walked in the door until I left, the service was very friendly, polite, and attentive. I ordered the orange chicken and got fried rice with an egg roll as well as an order of crab rangoons. The orange chicken was satisfying, although maybe a bit sweet for some people. The fried rice was good, but I really enjoyed the egg roll and crab rangoons. I would definitely recommend this restaurant over many of the competing Chinese restaurants in the area!

Updated Feb 2025 This use to be our place to go Our weekly spot , date day Dairy free allergies make date days limited when it comes to eating out Some Chinese doesn't use dairy Some do Almost all Buffets in Lansing do fyi for my followers But it's gone downhill since the "renovations" The food is always cold but egg rolls are nice and hot Plates, sizes and portions are always different for some reason Sometimes you get more or less I usually always order the same thing lately I enjoy brown sauce with non breaded chicken with veggies Not just filler veggies like onions and peppers (I don't mind picking out) Chinese restaurants in America are almost all the same Anyone notice that ? Why is it like that anyways? I'm just generally curious Why does General doesn't get veggies? Why are they all in general the same menu? It's nice they have some unique choices here like honey pepper chicken , Bourbon Mr & Mrs Smith ect I love honey pepper But lately it's been heavy on the black pepper so It's bothered my stomach unfortunately I feel bad for the young new server He gets overwhelmed and behind but tries hard He needs more training A suggestion If you work here and see him in the weeds while you sit at a table on your phone maybe have a lil sense of urgency and help him out once you actually get up? We can see you on your phone then slowly get up and go into the back and stand in the doorway on your phone I only hope it's online orders Automatically assuming everyone is being taking care of in a timely fashion is never the case When we come in Or maybe they don't care I don't know I saw a couple wait 15 min for menus Us 10 for our tea He's running all over the place tho. We didn't come here this week because of our last 4 experiences When you work hard for every penny every experience you spend it on counts Old review from 2023& 2024: Best Chinese in Lansing! Super under appreciated Unique options Combination options Dairy free options Always hot and fresh Delicious Yummy hot tea Great service We love this place

Google
Best orange chicken in the Lansing area, hands down. Choice cuts of white meat chicken breast fried to crispy perfection. Sauce is on point, orange flavor doesn’t over power the chicken.

I am visiting Lansing for business and I have eaten here three times. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food ia fantastic. I had the Yangzho Fried Rice and asked for it to be spicey. It was perfect. I tried the steamed dumplings to start and they were cooked perfectly. Often times and at other establishments the food is blah. Not Apple Jade. A muat visit.

Google
This place sucks. Inside looks old, service wasn't great and food was mediocre. I went to the bathroom, and the lock is all messed up. I eat Chinese food frequently, and I just wasn't a fan of this place. I had Mongolian beef, and the beef could have been more tender and flavorful - they definitely used old sauce. I myself have made this dish better. Do I expect restaurants to go out the way and grill my meat, add chinese wine, and red chili peppers like in North China? No, but make it make sense. Get better, please. P.S. I added my dish a few years back. My wife's family absolutely tore it up.

Google
I told my daughter the name of this place seems as if the food is not good and boy was I right. This was literally the worst General Tso chicken i have ever had, it was no sauce along with dry chicken with no flavor at all, the rice was really dark and dry. I wish I could return it but in the trash it goes. Good thing it didn’t cost much so I guess that’s a plus, I also got the Hot and Sour soup and it was delicious.

Google
I have been searching for a local Chinese spot that is worth ordering from, and I think I have found just that. Service at the front was very prompt and polite, the wait was also very reasonable for such a large order. My coworkers and I were very pleased. We will be ordering again!

Google
Second time eating here. First time service and food very good. On Valentine’s Day 2025 we came here for lunch . My husband ordered a spicy chicken dish lunch combo & I ordered combo meal shrimp with veggies. Waiter brought food, except minus my egg roll. When we asked about it, he said I never ordered that, even though I reminded him I did and had pointed to it. My husbands dish had NO spice ! The music was hip hop with foul language … we asked it they could change or turn down. Waiter said some people like it and would not turn it or turn down. I had had enough and put my jacket on to leave, waiter took a long time bringing check. He again told me next time I come back to make sure I verbally tell him the dish I wanted. 🙄 I will never, never go back!!! Bland food and crap music, bad server…. No thanks!!!!

Yelp
Food - good, variety of combos and entrees Service - good, server checks often Ambience - good, pace appears clean and plenty of tables and booths Side note: the women's restroom is for petite sizes only

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Excellent food & service! You will not be disappointed! Ate from their "luncheon " menu. Brought some home
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Apple Jade does Poke Bowls now and they are incredible. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the raw fish, the freshness of all of the veggies, and the portions were generous. I will definitely be returning and telling all of my friends.

Yelp
Good food Fast food Really nice combo meal idea Friendly service Good take out Good location

Karen K.

Yelp
Horrible service. Reviewed order multiple times. items missing from order. Poor communication. So many other options in the area. Avoid the hassle.

Michele S.

Yelp
I ordered the bourbon and fried rice with an egg roll and fried rice was good. The eggroll was decent. The bourbon chicken was dry in a little bit burnt.

Yelp
Love this place. Just ordered odd DoorDash and the kind lady who had talked to me over the phone after asking a question about what was in a dish. This place deserves more stars then what it is at now!! Definitely coming back, I highly recommend the chicken lo mein!
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
It's a simple lil Chinese restaurant that's been in Frandor forever. The LoMein was tasty. Despite being busy, it was relatively quiet and quick.
google avatar

Pamela W.

Yelp
Was so disappointed in their sauces and once again, mixing precooked chicken with fresh chicken made it so tough that my dog got to eat it once I took the coating off. Chicken fried rice was good, but just get bothered when they try to stretch entrees by using chicken from a previous order. I'm more than happy to wait for freshly cooked chicken but get irritated by mixing of the cooking temps.
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
I'm going to give this three stars because my food was good and delivered when still warm. The only issue I had with it was the sweet and sour chicken said it came with green peppers and onions. There were maybe one or two small pieces. If you don't want to give veggies, just say that, don't advertise it. If I order again, I will go ahead and assume the veggies that they list will not be included.

Yelp
I'm not sure how long this place has been around, but I gave it a chance a few weeks ago. I'm not sure what took so long, but I'm glad I finally did. The portions are generous. The presentation is impressive. The food is great. I had appetizers, soups and mains. All were better than most of the local options and I'll be heading back. I haven't ordered for takeout yet, so I can't speak to that experience.

Yelp
I've been going to Apple Jade my entire life, no joke! (2000-2019 and going strong!) My parents took me when I was an infant, and It has been my favorite place to eat ever since. Cost: The meals can be cost effective and absolutely delicious, you can definitely feed two people with one plate of fried rice! Definitely the cheapest place in town for the quality. Easily can be under 20$ for two people. The portions always leave me taking some home. Experience: Even when there's a single waitress on a busy night, they're still pretty fast! Everything is kept spotless. On the not so busy nights, the waitresses are so sweet, very fast, and work REALLY hard! Please tip them well. The bathrooms are always clean and somehow smell amazing, and even in there it's decorated nicely! The beautiful decor of Apple Jade shows the culture of the restaurant, It's classy enough to take a sweet girl on a date, but homey enough to sit down with the family and enjoy a hot meal. Overall: I have never had a bad experience at Apple Jade. Food is amazing, staff is fast and sweet, and everything is beautiful. What more can you ask? It's my favorite place to impress a date, and cheap enough for a 19 year old to pay for it all! Don't tell my date that, though ;)

Yelp
It is hard to describe in words exactly how bad this is. I am uncertain as to how you under cook egg drop soup they have accomplished it at this restaurant good luck with the E. coli. They are serving eggrolls with their lunch special again very much undercooked. There are many other Chinese restaurants to choose from in the relative vicinity all of which would be an improvement over the particular restaurant. I will attach pictures of each of the complaints I have with this restaurant the rice in particular that comes with their lunch special is a Mexican brown rice and I'm sure that is probably what is cooking in the kitchen but that does not mean Mexican rice should be on an Asian plate. Get it correct this is not an Asian fusion restaurant the General tsao's chicken that I ordered is plain and simple a prepackaged General sows chicken that you could buy at Walmart or any other grocery store it has been heated up in a microwave and not deep-fried the way it should be for the price I paid I would recommend going anywhere else including the Taco Bell across the street and you'll get more food for your money that will at least be cooked to the specifications that it should be for fast food. This is an abysmal representation of a Chinese restaurant I would recommend anyone and everyone steer very clear this is cheap knock off Chinese food I'm surprise the business is still operating good luck with your health with the under cooking of food.

Yelp
Authentic and delicious Taiwanese food. So good! Try some of the regular menu as well. Our favorite foods are the hot and spicy tofu w/ground pork, lemon chicken, Taiwanese Stewed Ground Pork, Beef Noodle Soup pepper steak. Everything tastes so fresh!

Xiangbo L.

Yelp
Horrible service! Treat different race people different way, so disappointed and never go again!
google avatar

Yelp
Foods are very delicious but the portion was not as much as other regular Chinese restaurants. However, i definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Had a nice family lunch on Sunday. Interior looked clean and classy music added a little more peaceful sense what my wife really liked. Tried mapo tofu, curry chicken fried rice and double cooked port for main dishes. My kiddos liked the curry fried rice but note that they love spicy food. Taro bubble tea tastes very good and strawberry bubble tea looked for kiddos (exactly like strawberry milk taste + bubbles :)
google avatar

Ivy S.

Yelp
This was a very decent experience. Prices are good for the amount of food you get. I love that the food is always "hot and fresh." The only down side is paying extra for an egg roll instead of soup. Overall good place.
google avatar

Yelp
I finally decided to try it for the first time today. I ordered the Hunan Tofu and Kimchee Fried Rice; I was thoroughly disappointed. Both dishes lacked flavor and the fried rice had an overwhelming burnt egg flavor. The service wasn't horrible, but definitely wasn't the best. Needless to say, I will not return to this restaurant. To anyone that may want to try Apple Jade - Save Your Money!!

Yelp
This little gem is a sleeper! Standard fare at good pricing for lunch. We got Mongolian Beef and Broccoli Chicken with 2 egg rolls. The food was fast and fresh. Quality was better than I had anticipated. The Mongolian beef was excellent! I will be back!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Tried this place on a whim/recommendation from a friend. Menu lists dishes in english as well as traditional chinese characters :) Loved the ambiance and decor was simple. Staff was very friendly and the food was delicious! We had kimchi fried rice and coconut curry chicken. Especially loved the bubble tea. Glad to finally find a decent bubble tea place away from campus. Will certainly be back again to try more dishes (and the lunch specials looked promising also)
google avatar

Yelp
If you're in the mood for non-authentic Chinese food, this could be your place. As for me, I'll spend my money elsewhere. I had the Hunan beef, which was cooked fine including the good crunch vegetables. It was overwhelming in the "heat" department, while lacking in the flavor dept. Pan fried dumplings were good, but then again... it's rather difficult to screw these up. While the food was definitely edible, there are just many more places that do it much better.
google avatar

Wallace A.

Yelp
Terrible overpriced bland food. Slow inaccurate service. This place has gone downhill over the past year. Many other and much better options for Asian food in the Frandor area.
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
I've been going here about 40 times a year for the last 3 or 4 years. What this restaurant does well: speed, taste, friendliness, affordability, location What this resturant does poorly: speak english fluently, variety on lunch menu, beverage refills I typically ask for my meals to be prepared extra spicy. That dials up the flavor an extra notch.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Not sure why this place has poor ratings. The food was delicious and relatively authentic. The 'Taiwanese' section on the back of the menu has some especially good listings. If you come here, don't expect the taste of typical Americanized Chinese food; Taiwan and China are two different countries and the food in Apple Jade is much closer to the real deal than buffet-fare. When we went it was pretty slow, but our waitress was very friendly and we enjoyed it. They also have very good bubble tea!
google avatar

Jeanne L.

Yelp
New owners, so we decided to try it. I'm Chinese American and born and raised in Los Angeles area, so I'm usually very reluctant to go to a Chinese restaurant in the Midwest (yeah, pretty much all of the Midwest), but I was surprised by this restaurant. I got a few dishes - mapo tofu, shrimp and garlic stir fry, and lemon chicken. They were delicious and not at all greasy, which is usually how Chinese food goes here (greasy, not delicious). Sure, they will have the sweet and sour stuff (Chicken, shrimp, you name it), fulfilling what White Americans expect of Chinese food, but there are other simpler dishes that are subtle in flavor and more like a home-cooked meal. I would come back!
google avatar

Caryn C.

Yelp
Ordered from here tonight for the first time; food came within the promised time frame. Egg rolls were good, Fried a Rice was good. Ordered General Tso white meat & got some chicken & vegetable dish instead. That is the whole reason for only one star. Likely will not order from here again.
google avatar

Jon J.

Yelp
Food was plentiful in quantity so big portions if you're into lotsa food for value. Quality is what you'd expect but not above and beyond Lansing in general. Give it a try!
google avatar

Jagdish P.

Yelp
Very reasonable price...I got tofu curry, which was very good. Nice and clean place. Not many people though. I was the only one eathing there
google avatar

Yelp
First off i give each buisness more than one try so here gos their chicken is dry there orange chicken tasted just lile sweet and sour and prices are also garbage for the piss poor excuse they call food.
google avatar

Yelp
I love apple Jade. Their friend wontons served with sweet and sour sauce are a wonderful appetizer to share. Their egg drop soup is wonderful and light I'm completely addicted. Any entree you get will be delicious and won't disappoint. I have tried several and they are all great. My favorite is Hunan Chicken but if you are not one for spice this one isn't for you. It's very spicy. You'll always be served quickly and the staff is very attentive and polite. Nice quiet atmosphere and clean.
google avatar

Yelp
A great little place tucked away in a strip mall sort of building. Been there many times over many years. Most recently, picked up several appetizers to go...really good dumplings (get them fried), spicy won tons (just a bit of a bite...not seriously hot), won ton soup, and a couple of egg rolls. The pork dumplings really are quite good but the egg rolls are average at best. My favorite entree is mu shu pork (probably killed the spelling there, sorry). Other entrees are good but not necessarily world class, but very decent. The menu seems to be branching out a bit...e.g., pad Thai which was a special the other night. Service is always quick but don't expect much help w/picking what's best or even recommended.

Yvonne W.

Yelp
It tastes good but the portion is too small. I had beef scallion pancake which can barely fill my belly.
google avatar

Joel S.

Yelp
Under new ownership, several of the dishes have improved significantly. Lovely service. We really enjoy the place.

Gretchen E.

Yelp
Oh how I miss this place. I used to go here once a week when I went to MSU. I live outside of NYC now and I still cannot find better Chicken Fried Rice or Egg Rolls. They are truly the best I have ever had. General's Chicken is also outstanding. Can't go wrong with this place. I dont understand the poor reviews on here, but just a suggestion: Do not listen to anyone who recommends chinese buffets (review below). Ugh!

Rini O.

Yelp
OKKAYYY SIS!! So I didn't have high expectations for this place at first, having read some of the reviews, so I was just expecting something decent. I did however decide to give them the benefit of the doubt and went to go try em out! My boyfriend and I ordered the hot and spicy wontons for an appetizer. Needless to say it was a little underwhelming. Wontons tasted very unseasoned and almost like they'd been store bought frozen. Yikes. This ultimately left me kind of disappointed and not looking forward to the rest of me meal. However, we decided to stay to see if the rest of the dishes would sway our judgement about this place and boy were we glad we stayed! I ended up ordering the beef noodle soup AND LISTEN!!!! This was the most beautiful bowl of beef noodle I've ever seen like oh my sweet baby jAYZUS! MAN and when I took a sip of the broth I had one them ratatouille moments haha. Anyway, the broth was not only complex in flavor but had so much depth. I'd never had a beef noodle soup this good before and I've basically tried every Taiwanese restaurant and cafe in Lansing. I was SHOOKDT. The noodles were soft and bouncy (weird description but you'll know when ya get em) and it reminded me of the noodles I used to get when I traveled to Taiwan a few years back! The entire meal, outside of the tiny appetizer, was extremely satisfying with good portion sizes. Not sure if it was just day for them or if it was the particular chef, but if you do go I recommend going on a Thursday and asking for the Balinese cook of he's available! Amazing. Will definitely return considering I almost pooped my self cuz the food was so dang good. Great seasoning, great people, great seasoned people.

Paul W.

Yelp
I got delivery from a 3rd party website. It only took an hour and twenty minutes to arrive!! The vegetable spring rolls were greasy like they had been fried and then re-heated in the fryer. They were tepid when thy arrived and there was so much oil that bag was stained on the spring roll side. The plum sauce they came with was nice and covered up the bad pretty well. The beef in the garlic beef could have been pork or something else. It was beige in color and had an awkward flavor. The green peppers in the dish were overcooked to the point of being mush. It was obvious that I got the bottom of the rice cooker in my order of white rice. Those of you with a rice cooker at home know what I am talking about. This was the first and last time I will try Apple Jade
google avatar

Joe N.

Yelp
OK, went back to this place a couple days later and was not happy. I ordered the General's Chicken (Supposed to be General Tso's chicken but white meat) and I expected what I ordered the other day. Nope, it was a stir fry that tasted like chop suey. It was salty and nasty (Maybe its supposed to taste like this???). I am not sure why it wasn't the same good Generals Chicken I had the other day (similar to all other restaurants that serve it). I would give this dish 1 star but I will take some of the responsibility as maybe that is what the dish was supposed to be and I ordered wrong?? I recommend having them explain the dish before you complete your order as there are no pictures. If I wasn't so hungry at the time, I would have sent it back and got what I originally wanted but instead I sucked it up as I did not want to hold up my guests waiting for another dish.

LAURA M.

Yelp
Lack of flavor. Orange chicken wasnt sweet at all. Fried rice had no flavor. Completely disappointed. We arent picky eaters either.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
New ownership and the food has gone downhill - nothing like the wonderful fare it used to be. Won ton soup is watery, chicken dishes have little flavor, walls are now adorned with TVs, etc. It's off my favored list of local restaurants.
google avatar

Yushu Z.

Yelp
The bubble tea is horrendous! 4 bubble tea takes half hour to make. Really?!?!?!?
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
Let's start with the good, fast service and well priced. Now for the bad the rice was dry the vegetables where soggy and sitting in a pile of water.

Yiming T.

Yelp
Great food,I love the spicy chicken stirfry with cabbage, very tasty food. They have very good fried rice as well. I'll definitely come back!!!!!!

S L.

Yelp
My favorite Asian restaurant in the Lansing area by far. Fast service, friendly owners and waitstaff, very clean restaurant, and delicious food. I appreciate the vegetarian options. Parking is convenient and location is central.

John M.

Yelp
Mix of Taiwanese cuisine and standard American-Chinese fare. I was happy to find Taiwanese food in the Lansing area but disappointed. I don't know about the history of the restaurant, but it's likely that these days no one working there is from Taiwan or very familiar with its cuisine. Fried pork chop (豬排 - fried pork ribs on the menu) were chunks of boneless pork deep fried until they were dark and tough. The accompanying vegetables were a standard American-Chinese mix with a thick sweet white sauce that is not Taiwanese and doesn't really go with a side of vegetables. The waitress honored my request to change to stewed / braised pork over rice (滷肉飯) which was better but kind of sweet and too soy-saucy. The rice appears to be quick rice and is less enjoyable to eat than standard rice.

Margaret H.

Yelp
I ate at the old Apple Jade for many, many years and the "new " version can't begin to compare to the old one. The food is so bland, the tempura vegetables are soggy and not crisp as they used to be. Even the rice doesn't taste as good. So sad to see a once fantastic restaurant become so mediocre. I don't intend to go again.

Joe N.

Yelp
Wow. What a waste of time. I've eaten in this restaurant and it wasnt bad. But then I decided to get delivery. Big mistake! It took TWO HOURS for the delivery. I only live 1 mile away. Our delivery order was the EXACT same thing we had ordered when we had previously gone to the restaurant, only this time it suddenly had no vegetables and no rice. Nothing but cold chicken and sauce. Two hours and 30 dollars for two orders of cold chicken and sauce. Now that's downright shameful.

Marilyn T.

Yelp
This restaurant had been a favorite of mine for many years. It is now terrible!! Not only the atmosphere has changed under new management (TV;s everywhere, tablecloths gone, noisy, no longer soothing and pleasant), but the food is horrid. Has the same names as the old dishes but food is prepared differently and is soggy and tasteless. The House Tofu was formerly delicious and beautiful. Now is is grey and inedible. I will not return ever again. Apple Jade is a sorry mess and I'm truly sorry not to have that option for good Asian food. I doubt the owners had previous restaurant experience.
