April 90s Something - Review - Silver Lake - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Let’s address the obvious: April 90s Something has a confusing name. It sounds like a millennial trying to hide their age to get an AMC student discount. This barebones Thai spot in Silver Lake has solid tom yum and som tum and more fusion-y things, like fried chicken kra pow. There are some vaguely throwback elements at play here, like the neon color scheme, playlists that teleport you back to Warped Tour, and the use of canned pineapple rings in some dishes (when’s the last time you saw those?) Nothing at April 90s Something will offend you, but the food isn’t anything revolutionary. The som tum is spicy and refreshing, and the sweet pineapple curry has a nice chili kick to balance out the coconut milk and canned pineapple. If you live in the area and want an easy Thai option for walk-ins or you couldn’t get a reservation next door at Pijja Palace, this strip mall restaurant is a solid choice." - Sylvio Martins

Hidden gem in Silver Lake for Thai food! We went for lunch and the service was incredible to start off. Their Thai tea was insanely good and the meal that followed was very good. We ordered the papaya salad, tom yum soup, drunken noodles, and the crispy chicken kra pow. All the food was super flavorful and tasted very clean. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Silver Lake!

Google
Eclectic yet super cute restaurant. The staff is super friendly and kind. The dishes are small but packed with flavor and juice. Loved the coconut shirt and the spicy basil chicken. Parking is a hostel though. There is a pizza place next door and it gets crazy. We were able to find street parking and walk over. Definitely work the walk. If possible, take the booth/bench seating. It’s more comfortable for long stays.

This is a relatively new Thai place on sunset boulevard, about 10 min from Hollywood walk of fame. The larb sapp at this place is super delicious and is a must try! Also the service was super friendly, and we loved the way they serve water, with floating strawberries and lemon slices. This place deserves more attention given the quality of food they offer!

Google
Wow what an awesome hole in the wall place, perfect place for a simple cute date or even more perfect for a thai food coma. I had the specialty fried chicken dish and it floored me! Delicious. The vibe is fun and funky. I love it! Saving to favorites. Also Thai tea is best tea.

Google
The food is phenomenal! The seafood pad see ew and chicken pad thai had just the right portion size and spices. The desert was also great with thai style crepes! Really convenient for me as I was staying in the hotel next door.

Google
First off, the music playlist is incredible. 90s and early 2000s throwbacks make for Incredivle vibes. The food was delicious - I highly recommend the tofu and fried chicken with a Thai iced green tea. Come for the food, stay for the playlist, leave happy

Overall: 4.6/5 (Postmates delivery) Coconut Shrimp ($8.32): This wasn't good nor worth it. I'm not a huge fan of the way they breaded the shrimp. Taste was mid. Crispy Chicken Larb Sapp With Sticky Rice ($16.64): The crispy chicken needed some air frying to make it crispy again. The flavor was amazing. Whatever combo of sauce, herbs, and onion they used on the crispy chicken, I need that recipe. I could eat it with rice or salad because it's that good! The sticky rice was interesting to eat with the crispy chicken because it's so different. Pad Thai ($15.60) + Crispy Pork ($5.20): I eat pad Thai a lot and this is one of my favorites. This combo with the crispy pork was really good. I really had to exercise self-control, otherwise I would have scarfed down this whole thing in one sitting. They put some wonton strips on top but those got really soggy and couldn't be saved. The food was delicious which makes me really want to dine in person.

Yelp
Came here with a huge group ~15 people on a Saturday at 8:15 pm and was able to immediately be seated, as the place was nearly empty. I got the crispy mushroom larb sapp at the recommendation of our waiter. It was great value, though I felt it was extremely salty. I heard that others enjoyed their dishes so I may just need to return and give the place another shot next time!

Yelp
I have been coming here for about a year now and every single time I come, the food quality has been consistent, tasty, and all in all, can't stop coming back. I don't know if this is authentic Thai food but I would say very worth the try the least. I also love how they serve water with a piece of strawberry and lemon in it with crystal blue cup. Their service is very friendly, and ambiance is casual dine-in. They said they will be able to serve alcohol soon with getting alcohol license so I expect this place to be packed soon. Strongly recommend.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! The only bad thing about this place is how close it is to my apartment. I can literally eat here every day and never get tired of it. I'm not sure people are aware of this place! The food is so good, so fresh, so authentic, and the 90s vibes with the music and decor are just the icing on the cake. The staff is always super friendly and speak to you with a smile on my face. You can't ask for anything mor. Even the glasses they bring your water in are so cute and fun!

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite places and I always beg my boyfriend to take me here even though it's an hour drive for us. I highly HIGHLY recommend the crispy pork! It's what I always come for (and dream about in my sleep) and never gets boring. The pineapple fried rice (with crispy pork) is so good and I could inhale total hip replacement whole dish in one go. The place is decorated so nicely too and it's a good place to chill and talk!

Yelp
Clean cut 90s vibe - artwork and aesthetic very nice but the playlist here puts in the real work of taking you back. Coconut Shrimp - amazing, coated and deep fried with real coconut slices. Never had nothing like it Chicken Pad See-ew - good not great, delivery quality, passing grade, nothing spectacular Fried Mushroom - honestly, freaking interesting. Picked this because was hoping for a veggie element (ok I know it's fried), but hot damn that shit is like onion rings but more, because it's more fun and got a chew. Would recommend. Thai Coffee - basically Vietnamese iced coffee, sweet and not as coffee forward as I usually like it, but passing bc how can you fuck up caffeine and sugar Think this menu is like a pick and see what interesting thing you encounter next.

Yelp
The food and service here are pretty good, but it's far from the best Thai food I've ever had. I think it's a solid option if you're in the area and want to check it out. The noodle dishes seem to be their specialty (based on feedback from friends/others), we tried a few noodle dishes and the Drunken Noodles were the winner. See my breakdown below: Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Value: 3.5/5 Overall: 3.8/5

Yelp
I have been waiting to go here for ages!! I finally got it to go with my girlfriend. Everything is amazing! The Delight Tofu with the sauce is delicious, the chicken pad thai & the crispy pork pad see ew (definitely worth the upcharge)!! & don't get me started on the mango sticky rice - everything was life changing can't wait to come back!!!

Yelp
I ordered the tom kha Soup with rice on the side. It was perfect and so flavorful. The Thai tea was so good as well. Will definitely be back for more and I thought it was a fair price/portion. Very cute inside and the staff was nice and friendly. Look forward to trying more on the menu.

Yelp
April 90's Something is absolutely delicious! We tried a ton of food here. Everything was excellent. The vibe here is too cute. Gotta love the theme. The neon sign. The posters and the true 90s vibe is really aligning to what they're trying to portray. We had Pad See Ewe, Fried Dumpings, Seaweed Salad, Pad Thai, Seafood Soup... everything was off the wall delicious. We had the best server ever. She was super kind and the food came out very quick. Everything tasted fresh and as if the ingredients were exceptional. This was the best Thai food I had in a long time! Los Angeles is known for delicious Thai food but I really think April 90's Something is going to be known for one of the best selections of Thai Food in LA. This place is adorable. The interior instantly transported to an immersive experience - they do a great job playing on theme and keeping the spot intimate with nodes of the 90s. I live in the valley so I am jealous that this place is in Silverlake. Cannot wait to go back and order everything else that I didn't order on the menu. Pad See Ewe - delicious veggies... great meat/veggie ratio. Flavoring was perfect. I will order this again and again. The noodles were stand out yum. Seaweed Salad - Just as you think it would be! Delicious and a fabulous size. Pad Thai -Everyone does it different and they did it great! Delicious noodles, flavoring was exceptional... truly enjoyed the sauce - they didn't over-do it. I always like to branch out but with Pad Thai this good, it's hard to! Can't wait to come back when I want the best Thai Food in LA!

Yelp
Went to this place on a whim because we were in the area and Thai just sounded good. This place hit the spot for me. I ordered pad see ew and my husband got drunken noodles. The portions were decent sized and delicious. We finished up with the juiciest mango sticky rice and that Thai green tea wasn't bad at all either. We will definitely be back. The service was wonderful and the food came out quick. The restaurant itself is a little cozy, but had a very clean and well stocked restroom.

Yelp
Been wanting to check this place out since it opened by Pijja Palace. Some friends came from out of town and wanted something to eat so it was a good excuse to try. We got a variety of dishes and enjoyed them all. Each plate is worth sharing! The crying Tiger beef was my favorite and the sauce was so good!!!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite new Thai restaurant it is so freaking good guys. I'm so impressed fantastic food I got the curry spicy. It is something else out of this world.

Yelp
We came here on a whim as it was the closest Thai location. The ambience was mellow, modern antique if that makes sense. We ordered the staple, shrimp fried rice, chicken pad see ew (butchered that maybe) noodles, and the vegetable podsticker appetizer with pink lemonade and tai tea. The food was delicious, well seasoned, not too greasy, enough for 3 hungry adults. I didn't even get to take a picture of the food but as you can see nothing left.

Yelp
April 90s Something Thai Fusion is a dream! The food is heavenly! I mean, close your eyes and each bite puts you into a fantasy! I'll start with dessert cos that's my life motto (life is short. Start with dessert). And I'm eating this divine dish right now. Banana crepe topped with coconut ice cream and peanuts! The coconut ice cream itself is dreamy! But then you get these little crispy triangular crepes stuffed with warm banana and drizzled with chocolate! Soooo divine. Ok now to the practical meal. Protein and veg after the gym! Doesn't sound tasty when I word it like that. But come on, this is LA. Everyone's working on their health and keeping track of calories. I started with Coconut soup, adding chicken and mixed veggies. It was delicious! Superb flavor. With mushroom and Lemongrass, of course! My partner ordered Crispy Chicken Kra Pow. I had to taste it even though I can't do spicey. It is a total flavor bomb! It was so good, I had to order one for myself. The super sweet Thai server accommodated me by making it with no hot spice. Perfect crispyness even though it's soaking in a tasty sauce. The side salad dressing was equally delish. I mean- Thai food- peanuts- it's gonna be wonderful! The only thing I didn't like was the seating. Some tables only have seats with no backs on them. Yet there are options with a booth type seating.

Yelp
Great restaurant name with a super cool interior that gives off Miami Beach 90's vibe. Every menu item sounds delicious. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive (though we did come on a Friday night and were the only ones here). To be fair, most people came for take out. Our group of 8 ordered a bunch of dishes to share. The crispy pork belly appetizer was hands down my favorite. Deep fried to perfection, the salty pig makes your taste buds dance. The papaya salad was fresh and flavorful, and the fried calamari was crispy and not overly chewy. We also ordered a few different curries, pad see ew, fried rice and chicken wings and all were seriously delicious. The authentic Thai flavors paired with the great presentation made this place worth our while. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
This is a new Thai spot in Silverlake that shares its plaza with pijja place! Some limited parking, but there are street parking available too. Each dish was flavorful and unique, and definitely giving the small business charm. Portion & price points are remarkable -tom yum fried rice: 5/5 highly recommend. Fresh tasting seafood, flavorful rice that I hadnt yet tasted! Only comment is while lemongrass and ginger aroma are delicious, it is not that edible when also presented in a dish. Think they should have been used for flavoring but taken out in final dish -papaya salad: 4.5! Delicious of course with its tangy flavor. Wouldnt say it stands out amongst that of other thai places but nonetheless delicious -street noodles: 5/5. Goodness I still crave this, its al dante to its perfection and great garlic flavor to it. The pork is a must! Super crispy and delicious Owner said their drink permit is still on the way. Cant wait to come back and down these delicious plates with some ice cold thai beer!!!

Yelp
Love this new thai place in silverlake on sunset. Its family owned and the owner told us that it is named april90something because her grandmother and her birthday is in April and she was born in the year of 1990. The place itself has a small parking lot otherwise there is street parking. Seem like a good place to order take out. For dine in there are tables against the wall and it looks like it would be a great spot for maybe groups of 6 but might be more challenging for anything larger. The water they serve is infused with strawberries and mint so its all really refreshing. Papaya salad: 4.5/5 It was tangy, sour and sweet in flavor and the texture of the shaved papaya was perfectly crunchy. It's not too spicy at all. Price is also reasonable for the portion Street noodles: 4.5/5 The noodles themselves are almost like ramen noodles in the thickness but they cook it to be more al dente, which I really love. It is cooked with garlic and you can get a sweet and savory flavor from the sauce it is cooked in. There is broccoli, bean sprouts, and chopped peanuts served with it as well. It is topped with deep fried pork belly similar to the filipino style of cooking it. The pork it self is super cripsy and rich so i would recommend eating it with something that can cut the richness. Tom yum fried rice: 4.5/5. I have no really had anything like this before. It had all the taste notes of tom yum soup: sour, tangy, and savory but in rice form. The dish itself was topped with mussels, shrimp, squid, scallops, and other seafood but it all was really good together. I think this was probably my favorite dish. Only downside is that I had to pick out the cooked ginger, lemon grass, and bay leaves in the dish. Will definitely be coming back when I am craving thai food.

Yelp
Amazing to have this so close to my place for an elevated but east Thai snack joint. Nothing complicated but total quality! Fried pork belly anything is lovely!

Yelp
Oof. Do not order the egg rolls for delivery. It looks nothing like the photos. First of all, it's the amount and consistency of about three tiny spring rolls halved, but worse is they put them on a bed of lettuce that's covered in a mayonnaise-y ginger sauce, so any crispiness is gone and you're left with soaking, congealed bread paste in a dressing that you did not ask for. Why would you put something crispy and fried on a soggy salad? To make the box seem fuller? I'm begging you, even if it's not much, put the egg rolls in a box by themselves. Same with the crispy pork...nothing like the photos and sitting on a bed of soggy lettuce (this time, thankfully without ginger mayonnaise). I really love the flavors of the Green Curry here---it's one of the best I've ever had in Los Angeles--but it feels like portions are getting smaller since I last ordered and everything now sits on a giant bed of lettuce. And because of this, we ended up with a bunch of soggy, disappointing food.

Yelp
What an interesting name! I enjoy having Thai food and definitely, have to come back and try their other dishes. -The restaurant provided a separation between the takeout service & dining area -Staff was very welcoming and friendly -Space was colorful, airy, & open (part of the dining area feels like you're eating in the streets of Thailand; so creative and fun) -Service was fast -Small shared parking lot available -the FOOD was delicious!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this new gem on sunset in SilverLake. If your craving Thai / American restaurant stop by and try their Street Thai Noodles - one of my favorite of items we ordered the first fave was the Thai Green Tea By FAR THE BEST THAI TEA IVE HAD!!! Yes by far! I was sipping very slowly to savor, the waiter - might have been the owner gave me one on the house to go!! SO SWEET literally I will be back for more! Friendly staff. Accepts all forms of payment - not a cashless restaurant. My bfs least favorite dish was the green bowl with peanut sauce, guess if your having Asian cuisine you hope for veggies to be drenched in sauce but these are just steamed veggies served with an eggs and peanut sauce. Overall great experience, I'll be ack for the Thai tea lol
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Stopped in on opening day for dinner and had a great meal here! Ordered the yellow curry noodle + added chicken and street noodles with beef. Service was great, staff was super friendly. Pricing was standard, we got complimentary thai tea as part of their opening :) There is a small parking lot available as well as metered parking along Sunset
google avatar

Japmeet S.

Yelp
This place is super cute and has good Thai fusion food! We tried a couple different things, the coconut shrimp, fried pork belly, Tom yum fried rice, green curry roti and street noodles! The coconut shrimp was by far our favorite of the night!
google avatar

Yelp
I normally don't eat at these type of hipster restaurants, they're typically not my style. The wife and I wanted to switch it up and try something out of our comfort zone and randomly stumbled upon April 90's Something. Upon entering we were immediately greeted with a welcoming smile and seated. The decor is your stereotypical hipster joint setting. We order the fried pork belly, pad Thai, and drunken noodles. Hands down the best Thai food I've had in my life. The service was just as amazing as the food. I definitely judged a book by its cover.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here. Tom yum fried rice, yellow curry and pad thai with chicken Very tasty. Will order from here again

Yelp
I'm hesitant to post this review because I ordered via Uber eats and I feel my review may not be entirely accurate. However, for anyone else who's going be ordering take out from here, here's my review: I've been really excited to try this spot! It's been on my list of places to try for months. I got the pad kee Mao noodles with tofu (medium spice) and green curry roti with tofu (spicy). When my food arrived, the green curry had spilled everywhere. The container had the curry on one side and roti on the other, but there was no significant separation between the two, so the curry spilled all into the roti and it was a soggy mess. Not really edible. Not sure if this was a driver issue or packaging issue. Overall, taste of the curry was yummy though but I was pretty bummed about the spillage because it was too much vegetables and not enough curry. The pad kee Mao portion was smaller than I was used to at normal Thai spots. Additionally, there was minimal veggies and flavor was slightly underwhelming. Not sure what happened here but this was a miss. Overall, meh experience which I'm sad about. But maybe next time I'll have to come back to try it in person and not delivery!

Yelp
Parking is tough around here but food was good! We went on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy - got seated and served right away. The Shishito peppers and fried rice were really good. Thai tea came out pretty late into the meal which was a bummer. Overall good food but found the fried tofu a bit too hard and too fried for our liking. Appreciate them accommodating my dietary restrictions (no onion no garlic no egg).

Marissa M.

Yelp
Laid back vibe and good attention to dietary allergies (huge win). It's great to go somewhere and not get into a crazy soy exposure! Ample seating, too!
google avatar

Alesya G.

Yelp
Wow the food here was excellent! We had the chicken pad Thai and the green curry I would highly recommend:)
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! Another great Thai restaurant! It looks unassuming as it's in the same lot as Pijja Palace and the Best Western, but don't let that fool you! The food here is simply amazing! I had the green curry roti. The curry was so flavorful! I enjoyed every bite. I didn't think having the curry with just roti would be enough, but it was perfect! I also had to drink the thai green tea. Super delicious as well and not overly sweet. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
This place brings back memories in the 90's. Their menu is very limited, I haven't try all of their food but the one I tried was great. The service is phenomenal makes you feel like home. If you're in town you should definitely give this place a try.

Yelp
Ordered food to go and within 5 min called them back to change an order but they refused to change it. That dish we wanted to cancel didn't even taste good. We drove all the way from North Hollywood to pick up the food at least respect that and change the dish that we really wanted. I could've just canceled the whole order and not pick it up at all then they loose the whole order but didn't do that instead still went and picked up the food.

Yelp
I think that before coming here, you have to understand that it's a fusion place. Meaning it won't be to what you may already be used to. We were passing by and it looked really cool from the outside. Bright neon lights, 90's décor all over the place, and somewhat of a summer/outdoor vibe. It's inviting even from the street, so we stopped by. They have a parking lot that wasn't too full when we went on a weekday evening. They have some tables available and a big counter/waiting room for ordering. Their menu has a lot of traditional dishes but with an American twist. The larb comes with fried chicken instead of ground, the papaya salad comes with 2 whole shrimp placed on top instead of the tiny ones, etc. We decided to go with the papaya salad, beef pad see ew, and the bbq chicken. I noticed that when they charged us, they charged us more than what was shown on their menu. Not by a lot, maybe 60 cents per item (and this was before taxes/tip). Not a big deal but there is some inconsistency with their listed prices. We paid and waited for our food. It was prepared pretty quickly and we took the food home. The papaya salad was really good but it lacked the spiciness that I'm accustomed to. The pad see ew was perfectly prepared, chewy, and everything that you expect from it. The bbq chicken was good too, but not something I would order again. It was a chicken wing and a thigh for over $15 and it was ok at best. It came with a side of sticky rice which was also good. Overall, a good spot to check out for the vibe and a quick bite. Come with no expectations, and use the menu prices as an estimate.

Yelp
SPICE THAT BAD BOI UP! - Last Night I ordered the Crispy Chicken Kra Pow and Pineapple Curry. I told you in the instructions to "SPICE THAT BAD BOI UP" and you did not disappoint! nearly blew my face of with the number of chilis and the flavor was incredible as ever. for all my spice lovers out there, dont be afraid to tell them to "Spice that bad boiCrispy Chicken Kra PowCrispy Chicken Kra Pow up"...just be prepared to face the consequences... "Very few have survived the spice."

Yelp
I ordered a chicken pad Thai and a Thai tea and my food was great! The person serving us was sweet and the ambiance is cute it felt like being a a studio set for a show from the 90s I think it's the wood paneling ? Either way if you're around the silver lake echo park area and are looking for Thai food with parking then I'd definitely check this place out !

Yelp
Stumbled across this spot on Yelp and had to give it a try! Came on a Sunday for lunch and there was plenty of free parking in the parking lot. Cute and spacious interior with a good amount of tables. Menu has a lot of great appetizers, noodle, rice, and meat/veggie dishes. Everything we ordered was amazing and we would definitely come back again. Really cool new spot.

Yelp
The food at this place makes my heart warm with a feeling of home. I keep returning to this place because I feel cared for and nourished. At their affordable prices, fresh fruit-infused water would have been a rarity, but not at April's. I consider this and their foods highly thoughtful acts of excellent service, which means love in action in my book.

Yelp
Spot is near by a nail salon that I used to frequent so I haven't had a chance to try their food out yes but I really do like their Thai Iced Coffee(: it's very creamy hits the spot
