We brought our family (3 adults and 1 child) to Apulia in Hoboken to celebrate our nanny’s birthday, and unfortunately the experience was a big disappointment — especially for the price. Our total came to nearly $200, which felt unreasonable given the food quality, portion sizes, and overall experience.
To be fair, service was mixed — one of our waiters was friendly and attentive, but the other came across as rude and impatient, which made the experience feel uncomfortable and inconsistent.
The food itself was just okay and the portions were small. Most of the entrées were simply pasta with sauce — no real protein, sides, or variety. For the price, it was underwhelming. Even the kids’ menu (which they do have) was disappointing — just plain spaghetti with tomato sauce, slightly undercooked, and still overpriced for what it was.
We also felt uncomfortable with the seating. Despite several open tables, we were placed in a dark, tight corner, which honestly made us wonder if it was because we had a child with us. It didn’t feel welcoming, and the atmosphere made it clear that families with young kids aren’t really welcome here. Parents — I’d definitely recommend going somewhere else.
To make things worse, there was no printed dessert menu with prices — the waiter just described the desserts verbally, and when the bill came, they turned out to be way overpriced. That felt misleading and unprofessional.
Overall, Apulia is not kid-friendly and doesn’t deliver good value for money. I understand that costs are rising everywhere, but $200 for three adults and one child — for small pasta portions, inconsistent service, and poor atmosphere — is simply too much. We left feeling disappointed and overcharged, not celebrated.
