The Aquidneck Grower's Market is a staple for Newporters of all walks of life. From 2-6 PM every Wednesday during the summer, you can see them line up to sample the wares of food vendors from the island and beyond. It gets pretty darn crowded, so if you can, try to come around 2pm or closer to the end of the day to beat the scads of Lilly Pulitzer clad housewives, patchouli scented hipsters, and miscellaneous dog owners who frequent this pop-up marketplace. Parking is an absolute NIGHTMARE, so do everything you can to come by foot. Literally. The street is so narrow. You will not find a space. Do not even try.
There's a good range of vendors, who sell everything from fresh fruits and vegetables (try some raspberries!) to prepared foods (curried chicken lettuce wraps at the Boru Noodle Bar stand are AMAZING), and even some non-food stands, like one that sells homemade essential oils and body glitter. My top picks are the Tricycle Ice Cream cart (so cute and Instagram friendly! Try the strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwich!), June Love's English Bakery (the titular Mrs. Love is the fabulous British dessert making grandma we didn't know we all needed), and the aforementioned Boru Noodle Bar stand, which is new to the Market, but soon to give the perennial "popular kid" Tallulah's Tacos a run for their money!
Head to the Aquidneck Grower's Market before the summer's over - you'll be so glad you did! And get me a strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwich, will you?!
