Ar-Haan Thai Restaurant & Bar - Review - Medical Center - Houston - The Infatuation

"Ar-Haan Thai Restaurant & Bar is the latest restaurant to appear in the Medical Center. Even with its marble tables, this restaurant is casual. It serves butterfly pea soda with beef pad thai and tofu-stuffed roasted eggplant. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Gianni Greene

I had an amazing experience at Ar Haan Thai Restaurant! The food was fresh, flavorful, and authentic. Their mango sticky rice is hands down the best I’ve ever had—perfectly sweet mangoes, creamy coconut sauce, and just the right texture of sticky rice. Absolutely delicious! The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy. Highly recommend for anyone craving real Thai flavors!

Name online doesn’t match the name on the building/menus. Service very friendly and attentive. Cute atmosphere inside. Parking available in the front and back. Was pretty sure there was a lunch menu advertised online but we were only given full priced menus. On the pricier side and several dollars too high for portion size. Really enjoyed the food but would probably look for somewhere else with lower lunch prices and/or larger portions rather than returning here.

Amazing food, best braised rib with Thai fusion noodle I have ever had! The first bite blown me away. Also good Thai tea🤩

I loved the Khao Soi. I give you permission to use fingers to eat the chicken leg quarter. I tried to use a fork & knife and succeeded, but it would have been easier with my fingers. Next time I'll ask for more napkins, and there will be a next time. To give a top rating, I have to visit a restaurant at least 3 times, and this one has potential. The service was efficient and polite, the ambience was bright yet casual, and the food presentation was more creative than most. My wife's Coconut Curry from the regular menu was also delicious. It's in the old Buon Appetito building which was our favorite Italian restaurant, remodeled nicely

Delicious!!! I ordered the pad- see- ew (my fav dish)asked if they would add carrots they did and the dish was perfect my husband order the Kor Moo Yang which is a pork jowl with sticky rice and a divine dipping sauce. I would definitely eat here again and again.

Wonderful ! Versy tasty, and service is just perfect. We ve just finish to eat when it began to rain. It has been proposed, to drive us by car to our hotel. Thank you so much. A very good memory by the taste of plates, also by your kindness.

Second Review:Portion too small. The Volcano Beef is 26 dollars and comes with only this small portion?! The meat pieces are also small. We don’t even need to floss after this meal cuz there’s so little meat. First Review:INCREDIBLY AUTHENTIC thai restaurant with great service. We were definitely excited to know this hidden gem in TMC area.

I wanted to try this new Thai restaurant for few weeks and finally went there for dinner with friends. If you are looking for a great Thai restaurant, try this new restaurant. You will be pleasantly surprised how delicious everything is! I could not stop eating. It was that good. Good, friendly, fast service, good ambiance is also a plus. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I have nostalgia for this location going back to when it was an Italian place. I know it's cycled through some other places, but I really love this reincarnation of the interior and what they did. Super light airy and charming. Food was good, albeit a bit spicy for our little. I'm generally iffy on Thai food (just not the biggest fan of the flavor profile and all the coconut) but I absolutely loved the glass noodles. It appeared kind of small but it's jam packed and the flavors are bold but all mesh well. Hubs and the kiddo got yellow curry and a beef something or other, like I said a bit spicy for the kiddo but both said it was good. We did an order or spring rolls for the table, not much to write home about; the peanut sauce had a Thai take and whole it was cool to try something new, I'll be sticking with my Vietnamese place for spring rolls. All in all, food was good, service was fine. Food is kinda on the pricier side for what it is, but we enjoyed our meal all the same.

Yelp
Although a bit pricey, we enjoyed our meal at Ar-Haan-- the food is definitely tasty and beautifully presented with flowers and colorful garnishes. The ambiance has definitely improved from the previous restaurant in this little house with flowers and lamps at each table, modern table seating, nice plates, and the absence of sewer smells. And the service is still just as friendly. We asked for "no spicy" for all of our dishes (we're wimps!), and the server said that he would just put all our dishes as a Mild spicy... which we thought would be fine until our first dish, the Zesty Glass Noodle (Yum Woon Sen), came out. It was colorful and pretty, but mannnn it was soooo spicy! We managed several bites but I downed the entire carafe of water and my taste buds took a while to recover. I could appreciate that the shrimp was plump and perfectly cooked, but even with things being so spicy, the salad was missing *something* (maybe the sweetness and more acidity of lime?) that other versions of this dish have. When paying the bill, the receipt listed the glass noodles as a Medium spicy instead of Mild, which explained things. A little bummed because we couldn't really eat or enjoy that dish. Luckily, our other dishes were much less spicy-- the wings were fried nicely without being too oily, and the meat was juicy. The Thai laarb seasoning was unique and tasty! The pumpkin curry was essentially a red curry sauce with kabocha pumpkin pieces, which were not soft enough and still on the starchy side... but I enjoyed the curry sauce flavor especially with the white rice :) The Khao Soi was delectably yummy! The sauce was savory but definitely sweet. They were out of short rib, so we got the chicken thigh, which was a little messy to eat. The dish came with a mountain of soft noodles hiding beneath the surface that contrasted well with the crispy noodles that softened a bit after soaking up the flavorful curry. Scrumptious! Overall, the food gets high marks. A few tweaks on flavor, texture, and getting our spiciness preference right would easily amp that up more. There are tiny parking lots up at the front and in the back. The price and parking are a bit of a hindrance, but we will return to try some other dishes after rotating at some other Thai spots-- definitely worth trying out though!

Yelp
The atmosphere is cozy and charming. I can see why this place differs from others--attention to detail, like using real ingredients instead of American substitutes and handmade sauces. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
This place has changed owner again but keep the same Thai cuisine. The place is nice but parking is extremely limited so it will be a problem for the restaurant. Food wise was ok not that great. I do have better Thai before and price range is quite over priced for Holcombe area. $19 for lunch is a bit high.

Yelp
I ordered the Pumpkin Curry with chicken, medium spicy and Basil Chicken Fried Rice, medium spicy this past Sunday night. Both were very delicious, aromatic and unique in their own ways. The curry had a subtle pumpkin vibe in its gravy profile. The pumpkin pieces, bell peppers, green beans and chicken were all great for adding contrasting flavors n textures to the sauce. Every pieces was cooked well too. The fried rice was exotic in its own way like the curry in its right. Soft, moist and herby with plenty of basil and chicken. Great, friendly service as well. Ar-Haan is one of my favorite Thai restaurants along with Thai Garden and Thai Stellar ( Pearland ). I still need to try the beef ribs in Penang sauce, drunken noodles and a dessert on future visits.

Yelp
A new Thai spot opened up in that little White House on Holcombe!! I don't know what this location cycles through so many different Thai places but I hope this one has some luck and sticks!! The interior is small, but super clean and decorated well. It's run by a Thai couple so you know the food is authentic! Thai tea was delicious! And our food was pretty good as well! The dish of the night would be the red curry and the Phad See Ew! We enjoyed the Phad Thai as well but it had a kick to it even when ordered mild! The papaya salad was the least favorite, I think cause the flavors weren't developed enough and it was pretty underwhelming! The mango sticky rice was presented well and delicious! Service was quick and so so friendly!! We enjoyed our food and our evening, and would definitely be back!

Yelp
Really good Thai food! Loves the Tom Kha and mango sticky rice especially. We will be repeat customers.

Prashant K.

Yelp
Food is decent, and the service is quick and friendly. They also give recommendations if you ask. Ambience is good with some real plants for a fresh vibe. My only gripe is the prices have gone up and are not as affordable for grad students anymore with the minimum veggie dish at 17$. I do understand that prices have gone up so I can't complain too much.. We split a khao soi for $22 split among the two of us, but it was not as flavourful as the old management which used to make it so amazing. I would go here occasionally since it still has reasonable flavour for Thai nearby the med centre.

Yelp
Polite and welcoming staff. Very attentive and nice vibe. It looks like a house that got modified into a restaurant. Pretty cool. Got the khao soi with dark chicken meat and it was very flavorful and delicious. Presentation was creative and on point as well. Came here pretty full so didnt get to try the other dishes but will be sure to come back for more!

Yelp
love this new Thai restaurant!! honestly I could've easily passed this building if I didn't find it on Yelp. The interior of the place was so cute! It felt intimate but also modern/home-y. The food we ordered was so good. We especially loved the su kho Thai! The curry broth was super flavorful. They have a pretty good selection of entrees so there's something for everyone. Parking is a little limited. A few spaces in the front and there's also parking behind the building also but it's a little tight.

Yelp
Best thai food in the area hands down. More authentic than Street to Kitchen and packed full of flavor. Parking is a bit tricky but well worth the visit

Yelp
We came to try this new Thai spot for lunch today and we were greeted and seated quickly. We were offered water and our server asked if we wanted anything else to drink. He was very prompt with bringing us our ice cold beers with an ice cold glass. We ordered the fresh shrimp rolls and the cashew chicken and pad see ew with beef. Everything was exceptionally good and the heat on the 2 star was perfect. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town to try the many other dishes that looked so good!

Yelp
After landing in Houston for a business trip, I turned to Yelp to find me a resturant near my hotel. Ar-Haan, though very new, was a standout of phenomenal food reviews so I just had to try it myself. Upon entering, the staff was very kind and the establish beautifully decorated. As seen in photos, the food plating is exquisite. What you cannot see is that it is hands down one of the best dishes I've eaten, ever. I chuckled when the waiter questioned my tolerance for spice, but was glad I pushed back on his recommendation of medium because I absolutely needed it to have more kick. I will be returning to Houston -- and Ar-Haan -- again soon. This time prepared to take some back with me on the flight.

Yelp
Loved the Kor Moon Yang and Green Spaghetti! The service was amazing; they kept checking up on us and were very friendly! The chef was also very attentive, making sure the quality of the food was to our standards. The custard was on the house as they just had their soft opening last Monday (10/07/24), and it had the perfect amount of sweetness to our liking. The interior was very neat and detailed. It was extremely clean and peaceful. Definitely coming back-- gotta taste 'em all.

Yelp
This location has had several different Thai restaurants over the time I've lived close by but I really really hope this one stays around. This is some of the best Thai I've had in houston. Everything is made fresh to order and was so well flavored. I got the Thai fried rice, drunken noodle, and pad thai all with chicken and medium spicy. A perfect amount of spicy and flavor. We also got lemonade and the veggie fried egg rolls. Will be back over and over

C G.

Yelp
Food was good. However, their rice was probably the worst rice I've ever had. Small portions, but a lot of care was put into each dish. Their noodle dishes were delicious.

Yelp
The food was excellent! Pad-Thai and Panang Curry with springs as an appetizer. It was one of better Thai places I have been too, through my travels in the states. Super happy we found this place, We will be back.

Ann-Clore D.

Yelp
When we arrived, there was not a single car in the parking lot. Yikes. It was Monday night and the reviews were excellent. And we Ubered, so we had to go in! We were warmly greeted and allowed to choose our seats. The booth seat is incredibly comfortable. Music was at a nice level. Flowers were on every table. Love the warm battery-operated touch lamps on the tables. Atmosphere was welcoming, clean, and warm. We were not rushed and allowed to order at the pace we chose. Then, the beautifully presented food started to roll out by the very kind staff. Orchids adorned both the spring rolls and the tofu. Just beautiful! The sauce served with the fried tofu was my husband's absolute favorite! It is homemade. It should be bottled and sold!! Our Panang curry with chicken was delicious and so well presented. Just the right amount. And the chicken moist and tender! Green spaghetti was good. The green beans were my favorite part. My husband added the tofu sauce with the spaghetti and thought that added to the flavors. Absolutely an A+ go to Thai place and so reasonably priced. Go right away. You'll be glad you did! We loved every bite!!

Yelp
Nice location convenient to medical center on W. Holcombe. Ambiance a definite plus: comfortable place: renovated from previous owners years ago and very much improved inside and outside the building. Customers should know this is a NEW place. All entrees high quality. Service good. The neodisco music was a little odd. The basic entree is $20. I've had a lot of Thai and they do Thai well.

Kay H.

Yelp
Food is exquisite and authentic. Service is attentive and warm. Ambiance is lovely and great for intimate gatherings. We will come back again!! And bring new friends. Might be good to get dropped off and picked up at peak dinning hours as parking is some what limited. One of the best Thai restaurants in town!!

Maria C.

Yelp
Hands down the best Thai in Houston!! Try the short rib curry (mix of red and yellow curry--whoa...so amazing), the volcano (waygu), fried rice and krapow. They have wine and beer but they let you bring your own wine (for a fee). It would be absolutely perfect if they had cocktails.

Yelp
The Holcombe corridor between Main and Kirby is really starting to pop with good restaurants, and Ar-Haan is one of the reasons why. The menu extends beyond the traditional Thai listings to include a number of signature dishes that are well worth exploring. My latest favorite is their Kra Pao Stuffed Eggplant. Get it with a bit of kick. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the setting is cozy - I will definitely return for more.
google avatar

Gabriel S.

Yelp
This was my first time here. The service was great and the food was AMAZING! So flavorful and fresh. I ordered the short rib with curry, chicken wings, drunken noodles, and mango sticky rice for desert. I can't even pick what my favorite was because it was all made to perfection. If you like Thai food or just flavorful food overall give this place a shot!

Yelp
Panang curry: 5/5 excellent dish with a good mix of spice, cream, curry flavor, and hint of sweetness with a good Amount meat Green spaghetti: 5/5 my favorite dish so far, the noodles were perfectly cooked with amazing flavor. A tad spicy for those who order it medium! Wing zaab: 4/5 tasty Asian fried chicken that came out pipping hot, the outside was very crispy and flavorful, I wish the inside had a tad more flavor but still enjoyed this dish I will be back! It's a really cute restaurant tucked in a quiet street with great, attentive service and pretty interior decor

Yelp
Haven't had such terrific Thai food since I was in Phuket. A great addition to the Houston foodie scene.
google avatar

Don C.

Yelp
Don't be turned off by the exterior. The interior is very welcoming, beautiful, and comfy. The service is very accommodating for my vegetarian friend (all dishes are salt based rather than fish sauce like most thai places). The staff was able to read our mutterings and interpret the best sustenance to satisfy. But the food is really what we should be talking about. The red curry packed a good punch of spices. The green curry was clean and fresh with eggplant bell pepper and green beans. The addition of avocado was unique and added an interesting effect to the texture. The khol soi was outstanding with its presentation of crispy noodles suspending chopsticks. the picked radish, shallots cilantro, and egg noodle really were soo soooooo satisfying. "It was just yummy" says my wife
google avatar

Barbara D.

Yelp
This restaurant is really cute inside. The service was incredible. But most importantly, the food was absolutely exceptional. Everything was super fresh and was amazing. Don't let the outside fool you. I think this is my most favorite Thai restaurant ever.

Joshua A.

Yelp
Excellent yellow chicken curry and spring rolls. Great peanut sauce. The service was lacking and when we needed something, my wife got up to find the waitress sitting and playing on her phone.

Enrique L.

Yelp
Friendly family owned business with great service and food. They're brand new in the area and I hope they do well. The restaurant is cozy, I"ll definitely be going back.

Jake W.

Yelp
Excellent Thai food. Cool interior. Friendly staff. Definitely the best Thai food in the area.

Michael D.

Yelp
Great food and great service. I was very impressed with the Thai food menu. The food was delicious and came out hot and fresh. The spice was just right and hot like I like it. I will definitely come back.

Angie P.

Yelp
from the interior to the food, it was absolutely beautiful omg. our waitress was so nice and helped us decide what to get (the khao soi noodle soup was AMAZING and had a great portion). please make sure to have room for the mango sticky rice dessert, the only way to end your meal!
