Drizzle that over coconut rice and you’ll be transported to Myanmar 🇲🇲 - Rainbow Salad: noodle salad dish that is slightly warm that has a slight tamarind sour flavor and spice. Note they give you food in takeaway containers because you may not finish the food and simply can take it home after. Service: lovely Burmese/myanmar family owned and my mom converse with them in Burmese so you know it’s authentic. They’ve been in business for over 20 years in different locations. Friendly lady! Atmosphere: has whatever you need for a primarily takeout spot. Tip: cold water in the corner! Overall open kitchen concept and clean.

I ordered the combination chicken and shrimp fried rice — you know, a dish that should reasonably contain… wait for it… chicken and shrimp. What I received was a rice mountain with one sad shrimp, a few bits of chicken playing hide and seek, and some shredded cabbage shoved in the corner like an afterthought. Is there a shrimp shortage I wasn’t made aware of? Or did the chef just decided I didn’t deserve protein today? For the price I paid, I expected a meal — not a rice filler with attitude. Absolutely unacceptable. Get it together or change the name to “mostly rice, good luck with the rest.” Betrayed customers xoxo

While on a road trip passing through San Francisco. We stopped at one of the most authentic Burmese food places!! As a Burmese American i approve this restaurant!! We got tea leaf salad, beef curry, and of the national dish of Burma mohinga 🤌🏽

We had a delicious Burmese lunch of spicy beef curry over the most delicious coconut rice. Three flavors were amazing and we cleaned every inch of our plates. The proprietors were very welcoming and friendly and happy to tell us about the food and more. Please give this gem some love.

It's more of a takeout place. Not recommended for dine in. Fried rice is a bit lackluster. There's only one shrimp in my combo fried rice which is kinda ridiculous. Other dishes may have more potential.

Very authentic Burmese food. Mon hin Khar was cooked from scratch and it’s a must try. Coconut noodles was one of the best we have had locally. Will come back to try tealeaf salad and biryani next.

Great Burmese food in Fidi. Try the soups. This primarily takeout restaurant only has a couple tables and you'll be eating or sharing from takeout containers, but the food is what you're here for. The husband and wife are such kind people and they care about the food and customers. Note that the tea leaf salad is good, but some may think the tea leaf flavor may be a little on the light side. Watch out for the serrano peppers too.

Normally, in previous Restuarants in USA or Singapore, I couldn't eat much meat if I order a curry or dish , since the marinated sauce/taste didn't go into the meat and , the meat was too raw or blurred taste. Solid combo meal. Good size portion, tasty curry. It may seem like a lot of rice, but it goes great with all the curry and I ended up eating all of the rice. Generous portion of chicken and affordable price. The only thing that wasn't great was the eggroll. It was too greasy and not crispy. Very solid lunch option in the fidi. Burmese with a very expansive menu for a downtown lunch spot. Mom and pop style shop, friendly service. Give them a try.

A family run Burmese restaurant where you don't need to go far to the avenues to get it. Very conveniently located if you work or live in downtown. Good selection and the sweet couple running the restaurant always welcoming to everyone. I've had the Paratha with potato curry and tea leaf salad. Paratha was chewy with mochi like texture in a good way and the curry was savory but little bit too sweet for my taste. Tea leaf salad was good with all different ingredients mixed together resulted in a clash of the texture and flavors. Give it a try and you might like this place, at least you get to support a small and family run business.

Ar Har Ya is such a humble, small restaurant that offers premium food. The owner, Jasmin, is the sweetest. As she heads her kitchen team of three, she also makes sure we as diners are comfortable and asks if everything is okay. I ordered the Paratha and Burmese potato curry for an appetizer. It was extremely delicious and made me nostalgic for the same curry I had a decade ago in Bali, no cap! The appetizer was quite filling, so I shared the main course with my partner. For the main course, we ordered the chicken chow mein. The noodles looked plain and bland, but they were packed with flavor. Ar Har Ya is a must-visit for Jasmin and the amazing food that she and her team cook!

I've had the pleasure of dining at numerous Burmese restaurants and enjoying meals prepared by my Burmese friends. This place beautifully combines both experiences, offering all the classic dishes you'd expect from a Burmese restaurant with a delightful home-cooked touch. For appetizers, we chose the tea leaf salad and the roti paratha. The tea leaf salad was bursting with flavor and crunch, already mixed for convenience (unlike some places where you mix it yourself). It was refreshing and delicious, with a perfect balance of crunch and subtle tea flavor. The paratha was served with a smooth, sweet curry-based sauce that was simply irresistible--we dipped every bite into it! For our main courses, we had the masala curry beef and the seafood shrimp curry. Both dishes were generously portioned with meat and had fantastic sauces. We paired them with both plain and coconut rice. I preferred the plain rice with the beef and the coconut rice with the spicier shrimp curry, as the sweetness of the coconut rice balanced the heat perfectly. We also tried the mohinga, a catfish chowder. It didn't have any fishy smell or taste and came with vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, a chickpea crisp, and a boiled egg. The broth was hearty and flavorful, with noticeable hints of chili powder and fresh cilantro. I thoroughly enjoyed everything we had and can't wait to return! The quality, taste, and value all make this a great place to eat. :)

Small hole in the wall place with tasty Burmese food! The dishes we got had lots of flavor, and each was a reasonable price. The service is very nice, giving mom and pop shop. One customer came in and told the cashier that this is her favorite to-go food spot. Each dish comes in a plastic container with paper plates and plastic forks, even if you prefer to eat there. There's a small amount of seating inside, mostly good for groups of 2, I think.

Such a sweet couple running the restaurant. We came in on a Tuesday night around 5:20pm and were the only ones there. They have limited counter seating and if dining in, they serve in their take away containers. We got the tea leaf salad and fish curry with rice. The tea leaf salad tastes pretty much the same anywhere you get, in my experience. The fish curry was so flavorful and comforting. I would love to order that again.

Surprisingly yummy Burmese food in the FiDi. So far, we have only tried them via delivery. Everything is good tho. Can't wait to try them in person when one of my friends is visiting because she loves Burmese food and I can't wait to show her this one. I think this is more of a takeout place with maybe a few seats? The Burmese Masala Curry Beef is so good and of course, I love the Tea Leaf Salad. Located on Kearny and Pine.

Updating my review from 2 stars (below) to 4 stars, as I had a much better experience (and better food) today when visiting for lunch. I had the Ar Har Ya (curry) salad) and it was delicious, fresh, and a very large portion. The owner, Jasmine, was super kind and accommodating and you can tell that she cares about her customers. I still don't love that they use plastic for all of their dishes and utensils, even for in-restaurant/"for here" orders and hot food, but I understand why it might make sense for them from a cost perspective to have less dishes to wash. Still, it's a lot of waste and can't be great for one's health to eat hot food from plastic containers.

I ordered takeout from here last week. And first of all half my curry was dripping out of the box. I'm not sure if that was the restaurants fault, or the delivery person, but I barely had any curry. I ordered the beef curry. And honestly I didn't really like it. The chunks of beef were too big, and the curry was way, too oily. I love Burmese food, and this was pretty much a disappointment. I'm not sure if I would try it again to be honest.

Summary: Tasty, good-value Burmese eats Details: I don't really remember what used to be in this space, but it was definitely not a spot I ever ate at, for whatever that's worth. Ar Har Ya, on the other hand, is a spot I'd probably frequent if I was still working in the area! Something of a hole-in-the-wall, they offer up a good selection of Burmese eats, with all the expected classics like catfish soup, tea leaf salad, and more. Prices are good: great even, considering how much food they give you, relative to a lot of the other popular Burmese spots in the area. More importantly, the flavors are equally good: the two dishes I tried had good flavor, though the soup was a bit on the saltier side. I didn't love that everything is served in plastic takeout containers, even when sitting down, but I imagine that just speaks to the clientele primarily being office workers grabbing food to go. In the hour I was there, I never saw another customer sit down to eat, despite the amount of foot traffic they got. Accessibility: The interior is a bit on the smaller side, but seating is fairly accessible given that no one else ever seems to dine in. More problematic is the ramp to get in: it's pretty steep, and I imagine most folks in chairs will struggle to push up it without assistance. The staff was kind enough to help out, but diner beware.

Oh hell yea! I think this is the literal translation for Ar Har Ya! This is a wonderful little restaurant in the Financial District area. How often do you get to have Burmese food? Turns out, it's the same as Myanmar food. They have a wide selection of curries and such that I'd never heard of. I asked them to make some recommendations. It's obviously run by ma and pa who seem to have left life in Burma in order to open their curry shack here! It's delicious- a depth of flavors that you don't get at any other cuisine's kitchens. The Masala was fragranat and delighted with their coconut rice (they had like 3 options for rice) The places to sit and eat inside were few, most people seem to do take out. I wish I could keep coming back- their seafood smelled amazing.

Wow, so much flavor! Friendly mom and pop shop in the FiDi. We ordered the pickled mango pork curry which had a deep, savory umami curry. The tea leaf salad was also very flavorful, better than Burma Love imo and pretty large portions. They have basic seating, but we ate outside in the nearby park which has lots of benches (St Mary's Square). Would definitely want to try more dishes and would be a good delivery option.

Nice little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in the SF financial district. I stopped by for dinner earlier in the week - ordering the "lunch special" curry chicken with coconut rice even though it was around 5 pm. Service was friendly and prompt. Pretty good and tasted homemade, although next time I'll probably just get the curry separately. B1. This a Ma and Pa hole in the wall where you order at the counter, self serve your water from a station, and everything is in disposable ware. The service is quite fast. The restaurant itself is primarily togo as it has two tables with four chairs each. My friend and I ordered the tea leaf salad and the fish curry. Tea leaf salad was very flavorful with thinly sliced veggies and nuts for a crunch. The fish curry had four pieces that felt a bit hot at mild and also came with a side of regular or coconut rice. The coconut rice was just right and not overpowering of coconut.

The beef is terribly dried. After first bite we had no desire to eat more. We all cook and know what cause beef dry: quality, how long it has been left out, etc. we also got serious discomfort after dining here.

I have been visiting San Francisco and found hidden gems Myanmar restaurant. Authentic Myanmar food and very tasty. Owner were so nice with affordable prices. I ordered Coconuts noodles, pork curry with coconut rice. Definitely recommend. Will go back again!

As a Burmese person who refuses to eat non home cooked Burmese food, Ar Har Ya actually hits the spot and reminds me so much of my parent's cooking! It is actually authentic and does not skimp out on their ingredients! The owners/cooks are also very nice and sweet We got the Ar Har Ya noodle salad which is like a dry coconut noodle soup, and the paratha with curry dip. The chicken in the noodle salad was very tender and flavorful. Both dips were onion heavy. I'll be back to try other dishes!

Kearny Street really does have a wealth of interesting restaurants that stray from the typical soup/salad/sandwich options that are way too prevalent in the FiDi. This Burmese newcomer seems very curry-centric, though the traditional Burmese Tea Leaf salad is on the menu too. Really enjoyed how their curries were quite unique, unlike some so-called Nepalese or Himalayan restaurants which only have a few unique menu items and then have a lot of familiar curries. Paratha: I am a big fan of those flaky parathas / rotis that you dip in curry. Theirs was sufficiently pull-apart flaky, albeit a tad greasy. The menu said potato curry, but I didn't notice any potatoes. Seemed more like a coconut curry. Tasty though and more than enough curry for your dipping needs. Ar Har Ya Samusas (Vege): The thin crispy wrapper of a fried spring roll, but in a triangular shape and filled with potatoes and veggies. I really wanted the chicken samusas, but they were out. These were definitely tasty, though lacking the protein I was seeking. Tea Leaf Salad: Pretty much the signature Burmese dish to try. Lots of those funky delicious fermented tea leaves. Many nuts and seeds. But only a little bit of fried things. I prefer when tea leaf salad has a huge variety of fried things with different shapes and flavors. Though it was still really tasty since peanuts, cashews and sesame seeds are full of crunch of flavor. Moo Hing Nga: Was a little disappointed that this didn't include any crispy toppings like fried onions and dal fritters. However, the soup base was still hearty and delicious, especially nice on a chilly day. The fish bits were very small, like basically flakes. However, it was indeed a thick chowder so you could tell that there was a lot of protein in there. Loved the spicy flavor, that tasted like fish but wasn't "fishy". The noodles, cilantro and sliced egg on the side were a nice way to enhance the thick chowder. Pickled Mango Pork Curry: A dry curry with mostly pork and a little bit of tart pickled mango. Reminded me a little of Indian achari curries, but this one actually had more flavor. I really like that there's tender pork here since it's so hard to find pork curry on the menus of other curry restaurants that don't happen to Burmese. Huge portion, so had some leftovers after lunch. Coconut Rice: Kinda tasted like regular rice. Slight coconut flavor. Not really worth the $1 upgrade.

An absolute hidden gem of a spot. True mom and pop restaurant serving authentic Burmese food. As someone who grew up eating Burmese food, and I could never find a Burmese restaurant I could recommend to my friends. If you want real Burmese food, come here!! The Ong Noh Kaw Soi is a coconut milk based noodle soup that's to die for. It's surprisingly difficult to have the aroma of coconut shine through the broth, balanced with the umami of the chicken. Jasmine and her husband cook it to perfection. It's rich yet not at all greasy. The toppings add a necessary crunch! And don't forget to squeeze lemon if you'd like to cut the fattiness. I'd highly recommend this dish! I might even admit that it's better than my mom's. I'd also highly recommend getting the Rainbow Salad! Burmese cuisine specializes in the balance of sour, savory, and spicy flavors and this salad does just that. If you're familiar with Thai papaya salads, this is similar! The portion is huge and can be ordered as an entree rather than an appetizer since it has noodles. So good. If you're feeling rice, get the curries. Any of them. We got the pickled mango pork curry. The pork is incredibly tender. I was surprised that there were actual pickled mangoes in the dish! Warning, it's not sweet, but sour! You can't really find this dish elsewhere. Authentic and suitable to traditional Burmese palette, I'd recommend giving this a try! Again, this dish is about the balance of sour, savory, and spice. Pro tip: Get the coconut rice! Worth the extra dollar as it adds an additional element of sweetness from the coconut, but not overpowering at all. This dish is a punch of flavor. I love it, reminds me of home. Logistically, they're usually best for takeout, but that doesn't compromise portion sizes. Seating inside is limited, but if you have a smaller group, there's a couple of tables and counter seating available. A parking garage is a 5 minute walk away. If you've gotten this far, my parents and I got to know the owners a little bit more and heard their story! This doesn't necessarily impact the food but I wanted to share for anyone interested. Jasmine and her husband immigrated to the US from Myanmar with their two sons 15 years ago. Adjusting to their new life in Marin County, there wasn't a community they could depend on. Yet they worked diligently at a sushi bar to provide for their children. You can tell that that diligence allowed them to open a restaurant of their own. Jasmine and her husband will remember whether or not you like spicy food and treat you like family. It's unbelievable that Jasmine is 63, she's so lively. You can watch her flying around the kitchen preparing your food alongside her husband. TLDR: Amazing people serving amazing food.

The name immediately piqued my curiosity. Was it a rhyme? Was it a pun? It turns out to be a Burmese acronym for nutritious food according to their website, their mission offering traditional recipes of Burmese food. Coming on Monday around noon, there was a couple of people ahead of me which gave me time to study the menu. Wanting to try something different and new to me, I asked the lady at the register who is the chef owner for her recommendation. I got to try a couple of things. While waiting for my food, a gentleman from the kitchen showed me a pack of noodles that he explained was still frozen. As a result, he used another noodle type in making my meal. There are four or five counter seats to the right as you walk in and two tables to the left. I decided to dine in since the 2nd table on the left was open. The owner and a younger gentleman manned the counter while an older gentleman was in the kitchen. I appreciate small family-run businesses and they are certainly new to this and still getting the kinks out. It seems that most below average reviews were due to hiccups. Hope this local small business can minimize those.

I couldn't believe I found this Burmese place in FiDi so close to work for a quick lunch! The food is very yummy at an affordable price. My favorite are the pickle mango pork curry and biryani. I've recommended this place to so many friends looking to try Burmese food. The owners are so nice and friendly too :) During lunch rush there might not be enough seats but you can always take it to go and eat at a nearby park.

Best Burmese food in San Francisco in my opinion and a family run small business that I love to support. Best tea leaf salad and best ginger salad hands down in all of SF. Wonderful chicken masala and coconut curry too. Small space, super casual but if you are craving delicious authentic food with a little kick, this is your place.

Primarily a mom&pop togo/pickup restaurant. There are some seats in the restaurant but it's a small space. Came here for lunch and it was packed! Customers have full view into the kitchen and can see your order being prepared on the spot. I ordered C1, the catfish chowder which included rice noodles. The chowder was so good and flavorful. I initially thought they forgot to give me the fish pieces but when I tried the chowder, I realized it was blended in the soup. With the noodles, it was a piping hot, filling, and nourishing meal. Highly recommended and will try C2 next (coconut chicken noodles).

You can have it premixed or you can mix it up yourself. The sweet lady who I believe is the owner offered to mix it for me. If my momma taught me anything, it's listen to your elders! Ordered the tea leaf salad and all the ingredients were super fresh and high quality! Shop is pretty tiny and only seating for 6 so I round probably recommend take out. Friendly and efficient t staff. Will definitely return to try other foods!

Yum! And so nice too. I needed this food Lockett split right before heading out to a wedding. I ordered online but got a call that they were out of an ingredient for that dish-- the woman was so kind and offered to make me anything else, even custom dishes. I went t with a salad they had and the pulled it together SO FAST and even asked me if there was anything I wanted to customize. Reaaaallllyyyy yummy salad too, nearly ate the container it came it :)

I couldn't resists and had to order my all time Burmese food favorite items from the menu - Tea Leaf Salad - Samosas - Palata - Ong Noh Kaw Soi (coconut chicken noodle soup) - Beef curry - Paratha Everything was 10/10!!! DELICIOUS... got me hungry again while writing this review. I will be back to try more dishes. I'd totally recommend this place for anyone who's a Burmese food lover or anyone who has not tried it. Highlights: 1. This is more of a to go place, although they do have a seating if you're looking to just pop in for a quick bite. 2. Tea Leaf Salad - a must try. This Burmese salad is renowned for its unique taste. The tea leaves are pickled and mixed with a harmonious medley of ingredients like garlic, peanuts, sesame seeds, and various spices. It imparts a robust and savory flavor profile, creating a truly exceptional. 3. Fresh Rice Noodle Salad - this is exceptionally good due to the harmonious blend of textures and flavors. The soft, tender rice noodles provide a delicate base, while the addition of chicken curry, the fresh herbs, crunchy texture of the wontons chips created a delightful contrast. 4. Charming, little, family owned/run serving authentic Burmese food! Try the restaurant's namesake dish, Ar Har Ya which is a flavorful, sweet, yellow, chicken, coconut curry that is served over rice noodles garnished with a sliced, hard boiled egg, fried wonton strips, and fresh cilantro with a wedge!!! of lemon. Delicious!

I came here for the first time on Friday 2/23/2024. It's a very cute tiny restaurant with just a few tables. It's mostly for takeout. Service is so quick and friendly. It's really a good spot for people working around the area and those who are in a rush . I didn't like the quickness of the service though . The food didn't taste fresh to me at all . Unfortunately I have to say it was like those premade frozen meals you buy from Target or Walmart . I ordered beef mild spicy curry. It was not spicy at all . It had only maybe a tablespoon of curry and it was just pieces of beef . I asked if it comes with rice or not ? The young gentleman behind the cashier said yes . But he charged for rice . When I said you just told me it comes with rice , he smiled and said yes it comes with rice . And he added Rice is a separate dish . Oh well . I guess we didn't understood each other . Terminologies are different here. The rice was not cooked . It was very raw and cold . I paid $19 for a small dish . Uncooked rice , not fresh food . Just beef and not curry. Very disappointed. I don't know honestly how all these *5 reviews are coming from . I will not go back here . *2 is just for the smiley faces who are working there .

Beautifully delicious tea leaf salad that I had to come back for again. Just enough spice, just enough crunch, and loaded with the fermented tea leaves' flavor. Ask for it to be pre-mixed, and ask for a pre-slices hard boiled egg, too - really elevates the salad for a delicious treat of a meal. Very friendly and fast service.

Opting for takeout was a breeze at this Burmese gem. The staff made the process incredibly easy and smooth. They were friendly, ensuring my order was ready promptly, and the entire experience was hassle-free. The simplicity, coupled with their welcoming attitude, made the takeout experience delightful. The food at this Burmese place is really, really good. I had curry and a salad, and they tasted amazing. The ingredients are top-notch. If you like tasty food, you should try it. I give it five stars because it's always great.

Enjoyed the fresh and healthy food made by Mrs. Jasmine and Steve. Items were fresh and flavorful. Bright aromatic herbs shined in both dishes. The owners were warm and welcoming. Stop in for a visit.

We had an amazing time at this restaurant. The service and food were really good. We had the coconut noodle soup and biryani. Highly recommend

Got takeout recently and tried just one main dish - the shrimp curry. It was excellent! Definitely more flavorful than what I've had at other places. The curry had the right amount of spice and the shrimp were cooked just right. The coconut rice was a nice touch too. Overall, a solid meal. The curry was a standout and the rice was a good companion. Will be back to see what else is good on the menu.

Wondering around SF this afternoon looking for a score to break a 16 year sobriety, and found this great place! Now I've got to get rid of this habit! Food is so good and the owner is so nice, genuinely wants to know do you like the food. That's a sign of great food. Potato chicken and the Paratha...ridiculous good. Loved it. Oh, go medium or light in the spices or you'll be running to the Bay for a swim.

Whenever I come to visit the Bay Area, Burmese food is always a must-do on my check list. With so many options to choose from, do yourself a favor and give this spot a try. It will not disappoint! This family owned restaraunt is straight the point with quick, easy and friendly service whether you want to order to-go or eat in. My husband and I came to eat and ended up ordering the tea leaf salad (A MUST!), the mohinga (BEST I EVER HAD!), and the lunch combo which came with Burmese masala curry beef (TENDER AND FLAVORFUL), coconut rice, salad and an egg roll to share. Jasmine also gave us a complimentary mango pudding dessert. Everything was so yummy and I appreciate the relaxed dining environment vs the crowded, over-hyped up Burmese spots we've tried. I will definitely be coming back here again the next time I'm in SF! Thank you Jasmine + family for being so warm and welcoming and for sharing your story with us through your food!

Amazing spot in FiDi for Burmese food. Tea leaf salad had ample tea leaf, and the mohinga tasted like back home. 10/10 would recommend!

My husband and I had a late lunch on Saturday, December 28,2024, at Ar Har Ya. The service was very friendly and very efficient. We were allowed to bring in our service dog. Before we sat down, our table was cleaned. The whole restaurant was very clean and has an inviting atmosphere. The bathroom was also very clean. The food we ordered was excellent. Very good quality, great spices and really good portions. We ordered Masala Curry Chicken (lots of good quality chicken with a very nice mild sauce), and Pickled Mango Pork Curry (lots of pieces of good quality pork with a medium to spicy sauce. to note: one can choose how spicy the sauce shall be, from mild to very spicy). Really liked the sauce from this pork dish! We then also took for take out the Chicken Chow Main fried noodles where we tasted a bit already in the restaurant and they were very tasty (and a very generous portion!). For drinks, we had a Diet Cole and a Thailand Tea (sweet, with milk which helped to offset the spiciness from the Pickled Mango Pork Curry). In summary, we will be back!

I ordered the tea leaf salad and mango pork curry. The tea leaf salad was... amazing. I will definitely come back for it. The curry was also exceptional! Great customer service as well. A must-try!
