Ar Men Du

"Imagine wild moorland buffeted by the ocean with the rocky island of Raguenez glinting in the sunshine just a short distance away. Sustainable gastronomy is the name of the game here: the ingredients are strictly seasonal, harvested from the vegetable garden or sourced from small-scale producers, and the fish is caught locally. Overlooking the sea, diners enjoy Jérôme Gourmelen's dishes, characterised by their well-defined flavours and careful presentation: beetroot medley, buttermilk cream split with herb-infused oil; gently cooked line-caught pollack, textures of cauliflower and a fish bone jus; lightly caramelised poached pear, dark chocolate crémeux and a Kremmig liqueur ice cream. Friendly service." - Michelin Inspector

My family and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ar Men Du for lunch, and it was a truly memorable experience. I opted for the Plaisir menu, and every dish was a testament to culinary excellence. Each course was meticulously prepared, with flavors that continually amazed and delighted us. The attention to detail was evident in every bite. The outstanding service further elevated our dining experience. The waitstaff was exceptional, offering us the choice to communicate in either French or English. Their English was clear and easily understandable, which made us feel comfortable and well cared for. It was evident that every waiter genuinely wanted to be there and was committed to ensuring we had the best experience possible. Their enthusiasm and professionalism were truly commendable. The location of Ar Men Du added to the charm of our visit. No matter where we were seated, we were treated to stunning views. We could gaze out at the vast Atlantic Ocean, admire the beautifully maintained garden, or take in the picturesque French fields. The serene and scenic surroundings created a perfect backdrop for our meal. In summary, Ar Men Du provided an exceptional dining experience that went beyond just the food. The combination of exquisite cuisine, attentive service, and a breathtaking location made our visit unforgettable. It was an absolutely amazing experience that we will cherish for a long time. Every aspect of our visit was worth every penny, and we left feeling that the experience was truly priceless.

Amazing food and service! Wine pairing was brilliant. Their hospitality to two American women with limited French language skills was much appreciated.

We just had lunch there. Amazing fish, very interesting "petite bouches" before/between/after the courses. Even my non gluten regime got incorporated. Thank you!

Fantastic postion and we had a gale blowing so the views where brillant. They speak perfect English and had menus in English. Service is first class, venue is perfect, wine list is on a iPad.||||We went for the five course menu plus a few extras came with it. The scallops were so fresh and we had goose barnacles(percedes). Lobster raviolis where very tasty but pasta was too thick and tough. They said the monkfish was cooked to fifty degrees but it sat on a jelly which it did not melt. Dish was tasteless and the monkfish was like cottonwood. This was the only faults, the veal fillet with veal ||oxtail was sublime. The two desserts where to die for and we look forward to returning next year.

As we approach the time of the Tour de France, I am reminded of the term HC, or Beyond Category. In an age in which we are encouraged to write quick and superficial critiques of everything we buy or use, it is wise to reflect on what is really important. Ar Men Du respects its harsh but beautiful landscape. It provides much in the way of comfort without clashing with its environment. By definition, tourists keep moving on. But rarely you encounter places that remain in your consciousness and compel you to return. As with a lovely piece of music, playing it is one thing, playing it well is another. There is considerable insight and hard work in establishing and maintaining a hotel like Ar Men Du. One could make a few minor criticisms, but the overall experience here is magnificent.||Most everyone in the hotel business believes in welcoming their guests. It's the ones that do so naturally, with great enthusiasm, that you remember. There is that spirit here.||The setting is inspiring, whether you are physically active, reflective or both. While the wifi may be sketchy, this should be a time to understand where you are and why. There is some delightful local art work on display, and some for sale.||The restaurant is memorable. The staff is hard working and congenial. This is a place and experience to savor.

This was our 3rd stay at Ar Men Du and it will not be our last. It is such a perfect small hotel in a unique and beautiful location. A walk before dinner to improve the appetite for dinner and one in the morning after a delicious breakfast. Just step outside the door and onto the beautiful beach.||||The room (a Cosy Chambre) had everything we needed for a one night stay, incuding a very comfortable bed and stunning view of Plage Tahiti. Breafast had the usual excellent quality ingredients and the relaxed timing is perfect for a lazy morning. Generous coffee and hot chocolate. Dinner (we booked half board) was a no choice menu, but had very interesting choices. The two amuse bouches and the strawberry desert were highlights, while the lamb main course was unusual and delicious (if a tiny bit rich). Staff were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back (hopefrully for more than one night).

Disappointing meal. This hotel is ina very special position and we loved being able to walk straight out onto the Coastal Path. However our room was not that luxurious and we had velux windows so it was difficult to really appreciate the gorgeous sea views. The breakfast was expensive and although the coffee was delicious there were no croissants which we love to have in France and a huge selection of cakes which really are not our thing for breakfast. We couldn’t eat at the hotel for the first two nights as it was fully booked but when we eventually did - on a Sunday evening - it was such a disappointment. It really was style over substance and I, unfortunately, did not rate one of the five courses. My monkfish was really tasteless and the pudding inedible. So Very Disappointed and crazily expensive. Sorry!!
