Yelp
The best authentic Mongolian restaurant in the US!!!
Coming from someone who grew up in Mongolia eating Pirozhki at school was a highlight from my childhood memory. It made me try the Pirozhki from Arag and oh man it did nit disappoint me at all.
It was perfectly made, the stuffing inside was perfectly seasoned and done. We got 4 Pirozhki and I ate 3 of the Pirozhki and my bf ate only 1 because it was that good (my bf loved it so much too but he nice and gave me the rest ). Buuz (steamed dumplings) were great but a little bit bigger compared to what I'm used too. I prefer buuz to be smaller (bite-size) with more "soup" and thicker skin but that's how I like it personally. But overall it was great! The buuz was about 4 bite size for me and 2 for my bf.
Khuushuur (they call it fried dumpling) was juicy, crispy, the stuffing was also seasoned very well done. Every time when I take my friends from different nationalities, I have them try the khuushuur (fried dumpling).
Saving the best for last!
We also got the Khorkhog! They call it (stone cooked lamb? I think, something like that lol I only know the Mongolian name for the dish)
The lamb is cooked under pressure with the stones as well as potatoes and carrots on the side.
It is extremely delicious, the lamb and the broth soaks the flavor from the stones. You can taste the natural minerals in the broth and it's the best soup to drink to fight against flu and cold. It's just super good for your immune system.
The lamb was so tender and juicy. Writing this makes my mouth water HAHA.
The homemade steamed noodles on the lamb is so good.
Let me teach you the correct way of eating the homemade steamed noodles
You rip the noodles into whatever size you'd like
Then you dip the noodle in the soup (or you can leave it in the soup and eat it as noodle soup as well) and put the lamb on top and boom
Enjoy the real authentic MONGOLIAN FOOD
However, if you are looking forward to try this dish, I recommend calling 20, 30 mins before coming to the restaurant because the dish itself takes about an hr to make.
You're welcome
I came to the restaurant a while ago and I think the owner of the restaurant has changed. But the restaurant itself with the new owner has improved A LOT.
The only advice I would give to this restaurant will be about the menu.
People come to this restaurant expecting to try the real authentic Mongolian food. It's so hard to find real authentic Mongolian restaurants everywhere, the Mongolian beef you get from the Chinese restaurant is not MONGOLIAN FOOD.
But when people come to the restaurant to try some real authentic Mongolian food, I would think that they want to know the actual names for the foods.
We go to Mexican restaurants to get tacos but we don't call it "fried tortilla with smashed avocado, chopped tomatoes, meat, and whatever u get on top lol".
I would love to see the menu with the real names and explanations under.
Example:
Buuz
Mongolian soup dumplings (beef, chicken, etc)
Khuushuur
Fried dumplings with beef
Khorkhog
Hot stone cooked lamb with potatoes, carrots, homemade noodles, and broth
And etc
That was the only thing that threw us off because I thought my boyfriend all the food names in Mongolian so he wasn't sure what he was getting until I explained it to him.
But overall the food is amazing, the food we ordered was definitely not for 2 people but we killed it all.
