On the Grid : Aram

"For modern interior lovers, Aram’s multi-storey building is a must-visit destination. Over 50 years old, you'll find all the big names and classic designs there by Knoll, Vitra, Flos, Kartell, Fritz Hansen, Ercol and much more. Whilst many of the products are not in most people’s budgets, there’s still a good selection of cards and small gifts in the affordable range. It’s also worth heading up to the fourth floor exhibition space, which is used to showcase emerging designers, changing themes a few times a year." - Assembly

If you want to go look at great design while people look at you with total disdain, Aram is the place. The staff are incredibly rude, totally ignoring you and when you do interact they’re pretty dismissive and curt. I’ve noticed this every single time I’ve been there, and on some other reviews. I’ve literally spent money elsewhere for items I would’ve bought from Aram if I’d been treated more warmly / had questions answered etc. The good points - it’s great to see some lesser-known designer’s pieces in person, and the space is beautiful.

Beautiful store with lots of display. Worth visiting.

Google
Beautiful selection and a well-established premier design shop with a long history in London. I was disappointed by the professional service I received with my recent order at the store. The two staff I interacted were friendly but not professional and I would have expected for all the staff to be well trained about their order and delivery workflow and enthusiastic about helping buyers. I was not sent an order confirmation after I made the order in person until I called to ask again. I was told that the courier would contact me to arrange delivery time; this was not the case. The staff who received my phone call about the order confirmation was not apologetic at all and didn’t quite understand why I called or took it seriously why I might be concerned about not getting the email. I received the product delivery today but it was very carelessly packaged - all the paper tapes had ripped or wasn’t sealed properly on all 3 sides so the parcel actually wasn’t closed on any side, held together by the main two vertical tapes one of which was also ripped. I almost panicked because I thought maybe someone had opened and stolen the product since the courier they use did not require signature and just left the parcel on the ground floor - another detail that made me disappointed in Aram’s customer service. Luckily the product was not damaged.

It's a pretty good-looking place with nice decor and furniture, but it's not affordable for everyone.

Great brands, great range but staff are not so impressive. Went into store today asking about a specific (pricey) product….no hello, no help, just casually directed (poorly) in the direction of the product in another room then both went back to their computers. No goodbye when I gave up and left either. Reminded me this happened last time I visited as well. I wanted to purchase today but I’ll just go somewhere else - ultimately the products are available elsewhere - if you’re paying (or want to pay) premium prices there are far better places to go in the city (and online). Disappointing.

Yelp
This shop is a dream for design lovers. It is a family project that was developed with the intention to house the best in interior design in London. The store has a wide variety of styles ranging form classic Bauhaus to the newest from Milan. Names like: Harry Bertoia, Knoll, Vitra; are common on the sales floor. So if you have the money that goes with these expensive names you will be able to get furniture, lightning and accessories. The shop has 5 levels and they are a testament to their love for the best in design and its all for sale!

Yelp
Beautiful and functional designs throughout the store. In fact, the store itself feels like a gallery (there is a rotating exhibit of artwork on the top floor), where the interior design is the masterpiece. I was looking specifically for smaller decorative pieces, not furniture per say, of which there is quite a bit but it is spread out throughout the entire 3 floors of showroom. Not really setup so that you can see the same type of thing all in one place in the store - it's imagined as a number of living spaces rather than the categorized items that fit in those spaces. Namely a visit here won't necessarily be a quick peruse. No service was offered. A slight greeting when I entered and that was it. I asked about the upstairs and received a kind of cold reply. Also very pricey. For my purposes beautiful gallery of interior design, not a viable store. 3 stars judging it as a store.

Yelp
A huge and beautiful converted warehouse in Covent Garden. This is best shop in London for top-quality contemporary furniture. No knock-offs, no sale pitches - you can just wander and admire the perfectly-curated range of the best pieces available. Of course, you pay the (high) price, but the ground floor has a nice range of accessories that make good presents. They are also the licence-holder for Eileen Gray's designs.

Yelp
I unfortunately cannot cheer in to positive experiences with Aram. I did order a USM Haller sideboard and paid the premium to get it delivered to Warwickshire area. The sideboard arrived without any issues. But the delivery personnel was unprofessional. They cracked the stand of my TV set. Claiming that they are responsible for it ended in denial. Nobody has deserved this treatment. Especially no-one who has paid everything up front willing to rely on professional service. I will never buy from them again.
