Big Zuu’s Favourite London Restaurants - London - The Infatuation

"“Now, New Malden, that's where all the real Korean joints are. But if you can't be bothered to go all the way to flipping Kingston, then there’s Arang right in the middle of Golden Square. I've been going there for years. I didn't know that a lot of Korean joints actually make halal food. You can go and get some amazing Korean fried chicken and some amazing Korean BBQ. They also have amazing side dishes. Like, the banchan is free. I judge a Korean restaurant on whether they give you good banchan and I always want to go in on an order. AJ Tracey loves Korean food so I always take him to Arang.”" - jake missing

Arang Restaurant Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"Although it’s hard for anything in Soho to feel hidden, Golden Square still has that out of the way energy to it and it’s where you’ll find Korean spot, Arang. There’s always a buzz by the front door and the tardis-like space has a moody aesthetic with huge black marble tables and golden walls. BBQ grills are on the centre of each table, the pajeon looks like it’s about to pop from all the seafood stuffed in, and somewhere, someone is slurping on stringy glass noodles. Arang is split over multiple floors and there’s space for private dining areas where big group BBQ sessions take place on the regular. It’s not the best Korean food in London, or even in Soho, but it’ll do the job if you’re looking for a post-shopping meal, or a big group dinner that’s more interesting than some small plates. " - Rianne Shlebak

We had the best Korean food here. And the service was wonderful. We came for my husband’s birthday and it was the first time we took our kids to a Korean restaurant. We were truly impressed by the way the staff treated our kids. They were given cute cups and cutleries, my 4 year old even got a free grape juice can, and to our surprise the chef made the kids a big plate of prawn and vegetable tempura for free!! We had bbq beef ribs and bulgogi, seafood pancake, bibimbap, stirfried noodles, spicy beef soup and they all delicious. This has been my regular place to go to for Korean food.

Food was so good! I had Bulgogi set menu with my friend and could try so many different things. After the meal, they even served fruit! I definitely want to go again :)

Arang has a proper authentic Korean feel, and it’s super easy to get to, just a few minutes’ walk from Piccadilly. The menu’s got loads of choice and the service was really attentive. We went for the BBQ, which came with all the sides (even though that’s not totally clear on the menu), plus a few other dishes. Everything was really tasty.

Google
We had a lovely meal here and were especially impressed by the warm service. The food was cleanly presented and well-prepared across the board. We ordered samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly), and while the meat was fresh and nicely grilled, do note that you need to order lettuce (sangchu) and green onion salad (pa-jeori) separately if you want the full Korean BBQ experience. The seolleongtang (ox bone soup) came with plenty of noodles and egg, offering a comforting, mild flavor. The haemul-pajeon (seafood pancake) was crisp and flavorful, packed with seafood. The dolsot-bibimbap (stone pot bibimbap) was deliciously well-balanced, with a perfect mix of textures and flavors. One particularly touching gesture was when the staff kindly offered roasted seaweed and fruit for the children — a warm and thoughtful touch that made us feel truly welcome. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Korean food with exceptional hospitality.

Omg! THE best halal Korean bbq I’ve had in my life. I’ve eaten at other Korean bbq places (even non-halal) in the USA. But this place totally made it to the top of my list. The atmosphere is not the best but it’s only such places where you get the most tasteful food. Highly recommended for my Muslim / non-Muslim friends

I had my first experience at this restaurant, and I have to say, the staff—Sara, Ha Bin, Noah, Hyeongmin, and Ri Eun (the manager)—were absolutely fantastic! They went above and beyond, even helping with the cooking, which was a fun surprise! 😂 I can't recommend this restaurant enough; the team is truly brilliant!

Google
The food was great and disappointing at the same time. Had bbq and other side dishes when eating here. The side dishes were amazing especially the seafood pancake and the crispy squid/prawns. The downside really came from the bbq it was quite pricy for us to sit there and grill on a grill that just burns and not cook at all. Spend nearly 2 hours to even get a light sizzle on the pork belly and no help or change whatsoever with the grill. As someone who has been to multiple kbbq places I would have to say the grills were not that great for bbq it was just a letdown. Other than that the restaurant itself was nice and we did enjoy the sides which I do have to emphasise was really out of the world and pulled us through in the end! I would say be more persistent with them for changing the grill top but thay does ruin the experience as you have to keep clearing the grill.

Google
Been here a few times and the staff and food is amazing. The customer service is like nothing we’ve experienced before they’re so friendly and definitely take good care of their customers, the food is always a 10/10 and this is our go to spot for a Korean bbq. The prices are super affordable and the owner is always looking after us! Would definitely recommend this place

Yelp
Food is really good. The beef was really nicely marinated and wasn't too expensive. The steaks we got were fairly well priced too. Service is great and they even cook your food for you. Overall, spent around £80 for 3 people

Yelp
Soho Korean barbecue - and only so-so. Arang had good meats (fatty and flavorful beef tongue, pork belly, and ribeye) for their authentic tabletop charcoal grills, but unfortunately, the good news stops there. If you're used to Korean BBQ anywhere there's a solid Koreatown, you know to expect the banchan to be complimentary and plentiful. I mean, that's part of what makes Korean BBQ such a fun experience! Arang, however, charges for the banchan (and we had to buy 2 "orders" of banchan for the 5 of us; each banchan order comprised of 3 small meager dishes), as well as for the kimchee, the namuls - we even had to pay extra for the lettuce leaves for eating the grilled meat as ssam! I can't tell you how dismaying it is to be nickel-and-dimed this way (or would this be "penced-and-shillinged" in Britain?) as it really detracted from the pleasure and hospitality of Korean barbecue. Other than the barbecue offerings, Arang's other dishes are uneven in quality and taste. Their bindaeduk was very thick, un-crispy, as well as un-flavorful, and was made the cheap and easy way with mung bean powder rather than ground fresh mung beans. A mixed seafood and vegetable rice dish (haemul-deopbap) was more American Chinese than Korean (and tasted it too - not to diss American Chinese cookery, that is). However, a Korean mixed seafood fry (modom-jeon) was quite tasty - and thank goodness it was, as it was one of the priciest items in their menu. The service was good, however, attentive and polite, and the waitress working our grill was a delight. That kept our collective opinion of Arang at 3 stars rather than 2.

Yelp
Food is very good, but the restaurant is very chaotic. The spicy beef soup is excellent. Fried rice also fantastic.

Yelp
I really liked the BBQ at this place but it was a bit overpriced. The bibimbap was really good, as well as the fried chicken. The staff was very nice and the buttons on each table for attention are quite a nice addition to be honest. I'd go back here for sure!

Yelp
Impeccable service, excellent food, lovely atmosphere, attentive servers and hosts and the Prices are great. My girlfriend who lived for many years in Korea was excited as it was the best Korean food she's had since leaving Korea a few years ago. As authentic as it can be! You have the choice to cook your own food at your table or have them cook it for you, we cooked it ourselves and the servers helped and gave some great advice when needed. It was my first time eating at a Korean BBQ restaurant, it won't be my last Every time I come back to London I will be back here!

Yelp
I came here for a friends birthday, having never tried Korean food before. Turns out, I love Korean food! The staff were very attentive and dealt really well with the escalating rowdiness of our group - there's always one that breaks a glass... We ordered the table top meat grill and plenty of yummy side dishes. The meat grill seemed to go on forever, more and more meats being brought to the grill every couples of minutes. There were plenty of fish dishes to choose from as well. The food was amazing, although, it was a shame about the price as it ended up rather costly. A great place for groups to have. Taste of authenticity. Although the place wasn't very busy at all, do make sure you book ahead if you are going as a big group.

Yelp
In all a decent dining experience though portions are a serious problem. Koreans dine here, which in my book represents a solid endorsement to the cuisine it proclaims to serve. Sprouts, wasabi-laced potato salad and kimchi fermented to its prime - all very standard but regrettably lacking, too, in variety. My order of seared pork belly was rather disappointing; it arrived as ten overcooked slices, each roughly three-by-three centimeters in size of negligible thickness - not by any measure satisfying especially for an American like me. The kimchi chigae was acceptable in that it was served hot and not excessively sour (a sign that it hasn't past its prime) but yielded only two small tin bowls in volume. With entrees beginning at around GBP 9.00 a pop, the hungry man is advised to hit up a noodle joint in neighboring chi-town before coming by.

Yelp
Mediocre food or maybe I am not ordering the right thing . The sizzling plates on others' table looked delicious though . I ordered the pancakes , the glass noodle, the stone-pot rice . But I have had better . Food s somewhat lacking some flavoring/ seasoning . One thing I like is the hot pot kinda soup with glass noodle and your choice of meat , that one was good .

Yelp
Not much things better to have on a Winter's day than an Asian Soup. There's ramen or pho, but the cravings for a spicy Sundubu-Jjigae all week can only last so long. And that is what I had on a cold January. It's the only way I will ever have Tofu. Loved investigating the depths of that broth to discover all the different creatures of the sea lurking under surface. Mussels, fish, shrimp, squid and octopus. Surprisingly quite a lot. I have to say the broth was not as thick as I have previously tasted at rival Korean restaurants. Assa down the road have a fantastic Sundubu-Jjigae, which is a perfect balance of thick, spicy and flavour. This one at Arang is spicy but I think there could be more depth of flavour and intensity. I did like however, something I haven't found much of in Korean London eateries. And that is unlimited free sides. So Kimchi was a staple to get seconds on for sure. It's a nice and in my opinion necessary touch. It's common to give loads of free sides in Korea so glad someone is at least replicating this here. Service is quite good. We sat at the ate which is fine by us even though the door kept opening for new custom and allowing breeze in. People being turned away is good sign of popularity but can't help think that's a London thing. Seems to be the norm to have to wait everywhere is so busy. I'll definitely come back to try some meats and bbq as they had a proper table set up with extractor fan to experience that.

Yelp
I think I'm still full from my meal at Arang, from about 7 months ago. It all started when a group of 4 flew across the Atlantic Ocean in hopes of making it to Tanzania. A quick stop in London seemed necessary, if not required. After a 10-hr overnight flight, a stop at LAB for zombies, and wanderings around whoknowswhere, we ran into friends who extended an invitation to us for korean bbq. "Sure!" This was my first experience with korean bbq and no one told me to go light on the appetizers. All these great, scrumptous dishes kept flowing out of the kitchen, plus bottles upon bottles of soju, sake, and beer. Holy moly! An hour later when I was happy and satisfied, they busted out the bbq grills and platters of meat! I kept telling my stomach to power through. Maybe the alcohol helped. Anyways, 3 hours later, the feast ended but the night only began. We rolled out of our chairs and downstairs to the private karaoke rooms. At this point, I had been awake for WAY too many hours and probably delusional. I remember yelling and standing on couches. Whatever happened that night, I woke up the next day refreshed, with my internal clock adjusted, and ready to tackle London! Thank you Arang for keeping the food, drinks, and entertainment rolling till the cows came home.

Yelp
First Korean restaurant I've tried in London. No complaints about the quality of the food except maybe the yukgae jang () which was a bit peppery tasting. The portions, though, were tiny. ~£10 for each serving of meat, each of which came with an avg of 6 pieces!!! We ordered samgyupsal (pork belly), , and (don't know these in English). We also got spicy rice cakes () which was also a tiny portion for ~£10. Also not a lot of side dishes came out - the only ones that came with the meal were (some kind of sprouts I don't know what it is in English), potato salad type thing, and kimchi. I don't know if this is normal in London, but I'm from California, where portion sizes are huge, quality is unparalleled, and side dishes are unending. We had to order extra rice and lettuce () for the meat. I went with 2 others and the total came out to £60, which isn't unheard of, but I'm fond of my AYCE kbbq joints.

Yelp
As a vegetarian, I cannot review the BBQ, which seems good judging by at other reviews, but I WOULD NOT go to this restaurant at all costs if you want to eat something other than meat. Being korean and a regular customer at great Korean restaurants in the NYC and DMV area, I had high expectations for Arang-- and it even seemed that many Koreans were in the restaurant, a usual sign for authentic food. However, I was thoroughly disappointed on all counts: ATMOSPHERE: Upon entering the restaurant, we were told that there were no more seats on the ground floor and we would have to be seated in the basement--which seemed fine. However, the basement seemed like a very dodgy club with dirty, sagging red couches and a "private" sign affixed to the door. I felt like I was in a strip club dressed up as a restaurant. FOOD: Mediocre at best. The boricha we received on arrival was lukewarm and of a cheap grade; the cups were greasy and smelled of oil. Tap water was also served in a beer shot glass-- a super pet peeve of mine. The side dishes were bland and unappealing--kimchi, bean sprouts, and potato mayonnaise salad. The haemul pajun was a soggy, bland, oily mess with cheap imitation crab counting as the "haemul" or seafood; it looked like it had just been reheated and served. The haemul bibimbap was appalling; instead of vegetables and seafood with gochujang on the side it was random segments of unidentifiable seafood smothered in cheap artificial gochujang with just rice. Everything was past its expiration date and just plain bland. PRICE: Expensive and unreasonable prices for the small portions. About 9 quid for a small bowl of rice and low-grade seafood?!? are you insane??? And the whole "rent" excuse is just not acceptable-- I have dined at asian restaurants near the Piccadilly area which are far more affordable and ten times better than this restaurant. SERVICE: Our waiter could not speak English. We had to ask twice for the boricha and the bill. The place was understaffed and the service was incredibly slow. When we asked the manager if we could get a table upstairs, he told us that we could leave. We should have taken his advice. Needless to say, I would not recommend Arang to anyone. A truly good restaurant should prepare all its menu items with equal quality and attention--Arang has failed at this.

Yelp
I just had dinner by myself at Arang. I am. a picky Korean and know food quality. This palace is pretty good and I trust. Number of the free side dish was 3 but the owner somehow added cucumber kimchee for free. Thanks! I enjoyed the sam-gyup-sal (grilled pork valley)at the bar since I was just myself and all the tables were fully taken. It would've been nice if made reservation. Anyway it is a nice place where I will come back in the future when I miss Korean food during long business trip.

Yelp
A friend and I turned up to Arang tonight with no reservation, and were told it would be a 30 minute wait for a table. We decided to stay, which was definitely the right move. The wait ended up being less than quoted, and we were soon shepherded to a nice table complete with gas barbecue (more like a Japanese teppan) in the centre. The service was slick, and we soon had large plates of meat and smaller plates of kimchi, potato salad, beansprouts etc, these being on the house as is customary in Korea. Despite the authenticity of the food and the flavours, we had an attentive (and attractive) waitress who did most of the cooking for us at the table, unlike in Korea/Japan where you'd be left to fend for yourselves. However, this was not an unwelcome variation! The marbled beef was pretty good, and the marinated pork belly bulgogi was excellent, extremely tender and full of flavour. The latter was as good as anything I've had in Korea/Japan, as were the kimchi and other side dishes. Finally we had a spicy beef soup, which was outstanding. Arang has a wide-ranging menu, and I will certainly be back to try out some of the other dishes. The prices are reasonable, particularly considering the quality and the area, and we stuffed ourselves for 20 quid a head including beers and tea. The place was buzzing with a young, good-looking clientèle when we went there, and I'm not surprised at its popularity. Despite this, the service didn't miss a beat. I would make sure to book if I went again, but judging by axisofunity's review, this may or may not make a difference! There seemed to be a fair number of Korean diners too, always a good sign. Highly recommended. Food: 5 Service: 5 Value: 4 (marked down for cans of coke being 2 quid, which seems an extreme mark-up, although it's probably standard)

Yelp
So there's a korean food fair in town, and they were serving kimchi pancakes for 6 dollars apiece, and I just had to try one because it reminded me so much of this place. So where do I begin? London, a cold winter's night, just before The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. We stumbled in worn and weary after a day of shopping into this warm, cosy haven tucked just off Golden Square. You know that it's a good deal when 90% of the diners in the restaurant are Korean. I felt a little bit of a culture shock, having spent the past 3 weeks being the minority. I must admit that my knowledge of Korean food is zilch- the only korean things I know are korean barbeque and kimchi and instant noodles. My friends, the experts, ordered. So where was I... KIMCHI PANCAKES, yes. If you must order one dish make it THIS ONE because it was so darn awesome. A pancake meant to feed 6 as a side but I WANTED IT ALL. It was thin, crisp, yet flavourful and packed with wonderful compressed kimchi. Good just on its own! (In contrast, the one I had for takeaway today was soggy and limp and nowhere as rich in flavour mehhh) Oh yes and the food is pretty spicy, no holds barred authentic cooking. But seriously. Just go. The kimchi pancakes are worth it.

Yelp
We didn't have a reservation for a Monday night so we had to be seated downstairs but we didn't mind, since it was freezing outside and we didn't want to be anywhere near the door. The service was prompt and the menu is diverse. We ordered the rice bowls which was served in a warmed cast iron bowl, the panko fried veggies and kimchi pickled cucumbers. The bowls also come with a bowl of miso soup. Food was very tasty and fresh and the kimchi was great!! Will have to come back to try the actual bbq.

Yelp
Ah jees I feel bad writing such a bad review when everyone else here has written such nice things about this place but I'm afraid I gotta say this... I work on Golden Square and I walk past this place every day early in the morning when they're having their meat and vegetable deliveries. Well, last week as I walked past the delivery guy was unloading everything from his van onto pavement in front of the restaurant. I didn't think anything of it because everything looked boxed and packaged, but then I noticed a huge slab of meat that was only half wrapped in plastic and was sitting on the floor! ON THE DIRTY PAVEMENT! It made me feel sick that they could be serving meat in their restaurant that had touched the same pavement that dirty shoes, dogs, chewing gum, rats, piss and vomit has probably touched too. Gross!

Yelp
Upstairs functions as a Korean BBQ restaurant. =Yum= Downstairs is rumoured to be a hostess bar for Japanese/Korean businessmen. =Dodgy= I only sampled the upstairs and was pretty impressed. The BBQ tables are well-designed and easier to use than most of I've tried around the world and the BBQ meat is full of flavour and spice, at the better end of most Korean BBQ standards. Great scallion pancakes too. If you don't know your way around Korean food then you're on the same level as roughly 98% of London but never fear as the girls here are used to telling people how to do it and will give you plenty of tips on what to buy too. Soon you'll be an expert, but sooner your money may run out.

Yelp
This place has the best raw salmon that I've had in a while, almost like a creamy texture and it was thick and rich. The presentation is really beautiful

Yelp
If you want to have a meal at Arang, make sure you call up to reserve a table. They are pretty popular and busy most evenings! I've been there a few times and I really like the idea of having ventilation on top of the BBQ table. At least you won't smell too strong of the food when you leave the restaurant. The staff is friendly however can be a bit slow. The food is good, a good variety. I've always enjoyed their BBQ stuff as well as the Bibimbap! My favourite! Their cold noodles is great as well! My friends once ordered the soup and they were extremely spicy and a bit tasteless! I would recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Food was good but what kind of service is this? We got really annoyed when we went back to see this after thinking that we actually had a good night. We were being extra nice to the workers there because I am myself a huge korean foodie. We even gave them a 7 pound tip

Yelp
Came here for dinner for a friend's birthday party - he selected it because he considers it the best Korean restaurant he knows of in London. I haven't been to any others so as to compare, but I can say that compared to Korean in NY, which I'm pretty accustomed to, I'd say this place is pretty good. You'll want to certainly get the Korean BBQ platters (where you have a little grill on your table), they're not pricey for a group, and the waitress(es), whose English was lacking by the way, did a lot of the work grilling the stuff for you and preparing it when it was done cooking. They don't do that in NY. Then, you'll want to get a 'Korean pizza' which has nothing to do with a pizza at all, as there are no pizza ingredients. Try the kimchi one, in particular. Finally try a bibimbap to share with your friends, the hot pot the rice is served in makes the rice on the bottom crispy, while you get a variety of ingredients on top to mix in (and you must mix the spicy sauce in there or you've failed to do it properly). Even the 'house wine' was tolerable, and nothing felt particularly expensive.

Yelp
This place is tight, not the cool tight, but spacious tight. Overall, their food is mediocre and overpriced. Portions are nothing dramatic; not too small, not too big. We ordered a variety of things; shredded raw beef, pancakes, neng myun, rice cake, rice in hot stone bowl and assorted BBQ meats. The neng myun is up to par, really cold, crisp and refreshing. The rice cake dish is the only true phenomenon happened during the whole dinner. Everything else is really not worth mentioning, including the BBQ meats. FYI, unlike some other places, the nibblers are not refillable. I dont think I will be back. The End.

Yelp
Good Korean BBQ was something I thought would be really hard to find. Everything here seems to be very well thought out from the ventilation that the fans bring to the amazing amount of food that comes from the set menu. I really like the small dishes that come with Korean food and the ones here were quite tasty. They had the pickled cucumbers which are my favorite but the kim chi was delicious as well. I liked the BBQ meats and have never left hungry. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I can't wait to come here when I've feeling starved.

Yelp
kimchi is not good. Not sour enough and too juicy. Others are fine. But not satisfied that the BBQ doesn't come with lettuce.

Yelp
This is actually one of my all time favourite Korean restaurants around the area, the other one being Assa. However, this time my experience is not as good as the experiences in the past few years. I came with Wendy L and we ordered the seafood pancake, glass noodles, 2x Cinnamon punch, 1x spicy seafood noodles, and 1x beef bibimbap (hot stone bowl rice). We were given the usual complimentary starters, which consisted of potatos in salad type cream, kimchi, and green veggie. So far so good. The seafood pancake was also as expected, although it was lacking the seafood, I could barely make out any. The glass noodles tasted a bit bland this time round. It used to be sweeter and same problem again, lack of beef. Cinnamon punch is my favourite drink and it did not disappoint, although it was a bit weird coming in an Asahi beer glass. Spicy seafood noodles was the really really disappointing dish. I have never ordered this before and Wendy L wanted to try it. The broth was slightly spicy, but otherwise tasteless. The seafood was completely overcooked (think really chewy squid, octopus etc). Noodles were average. The beef bibimbap was pretty good except the egg came completely cooked as well...like a sunny side up egg. This should have come raw and been mixed in the rice? I was super confused. Just before paying the bill they gave us two halves of an orange sliced. It was super sour and was actually hurting my teeth due to sensitivity. I noticed the table next to ours seems to have melons as well. Ah well, if the melons were as bad then I was glad they didn't waste it trying to feed this to us. The waitress looked a bit depressed but this could have been because I was ultra depressed at the state of the meal and was also very tired due to lack of sleep. I was particularly disappointed that after finishing the meal and whilst waiting for the bill, these flies kept hovering over my empty bowls and were trying to get into my super sweet tasting cinnamon punch. They were unrelenting to say the least! I think I will give this place a break for now....hopefully it will be back to the amazing place I have known it to be soon.

Yelp
My family was vacationing in London and we came across this restaurant after a long day of walking. First they sat us in the basement and acted as if we were bothering them. Excuse me if you want business....?! Then after ordering our food came out in a random order. One dish at a time, none of our food came out together. Main dishes before appetizers and some food never came. We were extremely disappointed in the service. Not only was the service poor but the amount of food brought out and the quality was not worth the prices whatsoever. This establishment really needs to work on its customer service and quality management. Overall a sad experience all around. I would never go back. None of the staff seemed to care that we were even there.

Yelp
Excellent! I tried this the week after I tried Jindalle, and this place wins hands down. It is a classy place suitable for dates, friends, and family. Service was very prompt and helpful. Out of the non-alcoholic drinks, I recommend the cinnamon punch, which was something out of this world! Their prices are slightly on the pricey side especially for the barbeque, but their other dishes are really good too and come in quite big portions to share. Now I know why its consistently rated one of the best Korean restaurants in town!

Yelp
Food was okay. The service wasn't. I liked that their food wasn't sweet like korean places in LA.

Yelp
Summary: A Korean Restaurant near Picadilly Circus that serves excellent Korean food, including BBQ at the table. Prices are very reasonable and service is good. Review: Arang is situated on Golden Square and has some parking around however it is easy to reach via Tube or walking from Charing Cross of Leicester Square. Arang is comprised of a bar, front-room, back-room that is usually used for private dining and a downstairs private-bar and karoke/club area which can be hired. The owner and most of the waiting staff are Korean and there's always the latest KTV drama theme-tune or music quietly in the background. Arang appears a little 'rough and ready' and is always very busy so booking is essential. However in my experience booking doesn't mean you'll get to sit down at that time, a number of times I have booked and then still had to wait up to 35mins for a table! The manager has bene very kind and given out free drinks but it's still annoying. Never-the-less when it is your turn to sit down the food is excellent and quick to arrive. I really recommend some of the set-menus that include the BBQ. As well as the BBQ (at your table) you also get numerous starters including noodles, seafood, kim-chi and other dishes. I've found that for £20 - £28 per head you will be stuffed :) If set-menu doesn't take your fancy then there are lots of authentic dishes on the menu including Bi Bim Bap cooked in stone dishes. Their current website has a great menu list with some pictures, (http://www.arang.co.uk ) and if you have a look there you should get your taste buds going :D I've found that overall the restaurant is great besides from the slightly packed front-room and often delays in seating. If these didn't happen every now and then, then this would get five starts for just being fun with good food. Overall, I have not yet found a better Korean restaurant in London at this price range. Let me know if you try it and your feedback :)

Yelp
Arang is a Korean Restaurant just off the back of Piccadilly Circus. On first impressions the restaurant is very modern with table tops of white marble and black bottoms. Our first hurdle was choosing from the menu where options were wide and varied. Our waitress, a native Korean, was very helpful on this point and made a number of suggestions in line with customary Korean eating. Our second hurdle was knowing what to do with our food. In prior Korean eating experiences we would have cooked the barbecue ourselves but on this occasion every piece of meat was cooked by our waitress. Good service but I felt it was a touch OTT. We went with Spring Onion & Fried Korean pizza with seafood, Fried squid with vegetables & red pepper paste sauce (very spicy), and for the barbecue dishes Bulkabi (beef rib) and Bulgogi (beef) plus some rice and lettuce. We were also given some complimentary sides including Kim Chi and Potato Salad. Oh we also received complimentary fruit which was a nice end to the meal. Overall I was pleased with the quality of the food and the service was fantastic. I would have perhaps liked to cook the food myself next time as it felt like the waitress was there for the WHOLE meal. Arang is a very popular place and booking is recommended.

Yelp
Great food and service from the owner. Everyone was so kind and friendly, especially to our boys. Thank you for a fantastic meal!

Yelp
It's a little too bright, there's a dodgy "nightclub" downstairs with karaoke and the restaurant soundtrack is 80s meets Celine Dion, but I think that comes with the territory. Arang is a great spot for solid Korean food. The staff is really, really friendly and while some don't speak very good English and they can be a bit over-attentive (no, i'm not ready to wrap the meat in my lettuce yet), they are always willing to help you with ordering. And they kindly brought me extra kim chi (I have a strange obsession with kim chi and all other preserved things). Definitely get the basic bbq with a meat of your choice (I prefer the fillet as it's less stringy) and one of the fried pancakes. There's another Korean dish with glass noodles and beef that I adore, but I can never remember the name.

Yelp
Chicken soup is delicious and the service is good. They also give you the fruits for free after dishes~

Yelp
One of the best Korean restaurants I have been... normally dont require a reservation... food is very healthy and delicious... you can have hot plate on the table and watch the food be cooked on your table (or do it yourself)... unlike some other places the cooker / hot-plate is properly integrated into the table so it all looks quite smart.

Yelp
I can't speak to the dinner served here but Arang is a simple Korean grill that serves up a fast and affordable lunch. You get your typical Korean apps including kimchi followed by a plate of glass noodles, a bowl of soup and your entre. It's heavy but makes a great lunch after a big night out.

Yelp
A bit pricy. Service is good, food just so so. Good location near piccadilly circus. Spicy marinated pork is tasty as well as seafood pancake.

Yelp
I'd say mediocre. It's not that bad, but I wouldn't really be keen to come again. The flavorings quite weak and everything's just okay.

Yelp
Really good food, but the soju is extremely over priced and the service wasn't the best, but that was because they were about to close for the night.

Yelp
I've been here quite a few times now and it's a great place to go for Korean BBQ. The portions are a bit smaller than what you would get in New York, but the food is amazing. Usual dishes as part of my menu - kalbi, bulgogi, jap chae, bi bim bop, and pajun. Unfortunately, I'm not much o a spicy food eater, so can't comment on anything related to kimchi, but haven't heard a single complaint from any friends. I would definitely recommend this one!

Yelp
The Arang restaurant is quite the odd bird and there are things that I liked along with some absurd solutions and mediocre service. The place is on two levels; the upstairs being reserved for the BBQ and a basement level with a complete lack of style and air in that matter. It was like entering a completely different place so I recommend not going there - just stick with the upstairs BBQ and it would be fine. The food was amazing and cooked in front of our eyes. Keeping in mind that I am a meat lover, I had a great evening. I think that Arang is great minus the dodgy basement area.

Yelp
This is the review of the restaurant only and in particular the the BBQ. One of the better places I had the marinated beef and chicken flavor was good for me I enjoyed it and would come here again for the BBQ.

Yelp
Was just on Regent St and had a hankering for Korean food. So I found this through Yelp and popped over for lunch. Bad idea. The service was polite and efficient, but the food was just horrible. I ordered fried dumplings and kimchee pancake. Both were soggy with grease. The dumplings really didn't have any taste other than the grease. I've had lots of much better dumplings from frozen packages found in nearby Japanese grocers. The pancake was a strange consistency. It was very crispy on the outside, as if it had been deep fried. Inside, though, was very goopy, as if the batter was undercooked. It was also rather tasteless. Also, the kimchee in it was in rather large pieces, so it was basically limp kimchee + wet goopy batter + crispy outside. Inedible. Go to Ran instead. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, though, because as I was leaving, 2 different Korean parties entered.

Yelp
Started out with a bug in the menu. Literally, a bug was crawling on our menu. An entree was delivered one at a time. So, first person ate, and the second person ate, then the third. The fourth person could not eat, because the waitress forgot our order. Service was horrible. The worst experience ever in a Korean restaurant.

Yelp
Whenever we have a big family get together, Arang has always been up there as one of our go-to places. It is or rather it was a great Korean BBQ place. They even have a wonderful direct extractor fan system so your clothes will never smell of Korean BBQ when you leave. The food is obviously good, as many Koreans come here and there are often queues outside and people sitting waiting to be seated. It's definitely worth booking. I don't know whether they have changed hands recently or not, but we experienced terrible service on our most recent visit. The side dishes were plonked/slammed on to our table, causing some to spill out. Then when they were taking our dishes away, they knocked over a glass of water spilling some on my brother. They then did not help wipe up/provide napkins or a cloth and only half-assed apologised. The final straw was that they just put the bill on the table without us even requesting it. I mean yes you have people waiting but they can wait, we had booked a table!!! So just because YOU want a quick turnaround and more money, don't be rushing your paying customers out of the door. It made me so angry. Needless to say I won't be in a rush to hurry back there again.
