The 23 Best Restaurants in Montevideo, Uruguay | Eater

"Sofía Kim came from South Korea to join her husband Duk Gyu a decade ago. Together they opened Arariyo, a minimal restaurant featuring Korean home cooking in the Old City, very near the port. For years only Koreans visited them, but tourists and locals slowly came along. Kim cooks what she learned from her mother and mother-in-law in a simple open kitchen, including excellent kimchi soup, mandu, noodle soup, fried rice, and truly great banchan. During the pandemic, the couple’s son Martín began teaching social media followers the family’s recipes, and he has joined his mother in the kitchen. — MB" - Marcela Baruch

Service is the weak spot here in the restaurant: they gave the wrong size beer and also charged the wrong amount, had to be corrected. And then even asked for tip at payment. But the food, particularly the banchan, was excellent: particularly the sesame spinach and kimchi. The kimchi soup was not fresh, and the pork in it was not made to order, tasted just reheated. Still, this is probably the most authentic Korean restaurant in Uruguay. But it also costed as much as in the US.

It might be the only Korean restaurant in MVD and it delivers authentic Korean food. What's a bonus for me is that they serve Patagonian mouth fish which is a rare luxury for me. The fish is fluffy, fatty, and delicious.

Food was good, the Bulgologi was different than what I'm used to in the U.S. but it had a good flavor and I liked the additon of the carrots and onions. Definitely will be going back.

I thought ‘how can this place be that good’ so I was a bit skeptics at first to have Korean in downtown Montevideo. I was impressed right from the entrees which were not only complimentary but delicious. The chicken wings and dumplings were great and the bimbimbap loaded with vegetables and flavour - very good

Review for Arariyo - Montevideo Arariyo offers an exceptional Korean dining experience, making you feel as if you’re in South Korea. The food is authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our server, Yudier, provided excellent attention and made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone craving delicious Korean cuisine in Montevideo!

Awesome family run joint, serving up delicious and authentic Korean dishes! The owner, Kim, was extremely kind, and fun to talk to - we even shared a Soju and beer! The food itself was amazing!! We had perfect dumplings to start, and shared a portion of the fried chicken wings (which were covered in a tangy hot sauce!) and a bulgogi bowl (that was so good, we ended up getting a second one!) - oh! And I almost forgot, but the kimchi and squid you get w every dish is perfection! Would highly recommend!!

The bulgogi, fried rice, chicken wings, and the seafood pancake were good!! It was even better and authentic once spicy gochujang sauce was added. Don’t forget to ask “más salsa picante, por favor.”

The staff are really friendly and helpful. We tried our best to speak Spanish and they were patient with! The chicken wings are delicious and I highly recommend them. The lanterns are beautiful and the atmosphere feels welcoming.
