The specialty coffee den of West Village. Flavors are full, delicious, and artesanal. Vibes are like a cultured billiard room you’d find while wandering a castle. One beautiful wall of windows lights the space. It’s rare to find Panamanian coffee in NYC: they’re some of the best beans in the world, and not produced in large quantities. Well here they are. Arcane Estate features Panamanian specialty coffee from the owners estate and neighboring coffee farms. They have an extensive pourover menu, which I highly recommend to experience to stay (go early when it’s not as busy). Baristas have top notch knowledge: one visited the farms in Panama, the other is a coffee educator with 12 years. I got a drip coffee (shocker) and a pourover. Drip coffee: Solid. Medium to full body. Earthy, baking spice. Not my flavor profile exactly, but still unique in flavor. It doesn’t compare to the pourover, though. Pourover: Mi Finquita Natural. I’ve reviewed over 60 NYC coffee shops, and this is easily top 3 in pourover quality. Incredible smells: both powerful and nuanced. Chocolatey, toasted honey, blueberry. Tasty: Jasmine, chocolate, and rose flavors. Medium body. Long finish, like rose perfume. The natural process means the beans dry inside the juicy coffee cherries, giving extra fruity notes. Feeling like I’m on a cloud after this pourover experience - kudos! The space: Variety of seating: lounge-style cushion seating or bar seating. Highly recommend the bar if you have a choice to watch the process at the pourover station. It may be hard to sit here in a group, but come early for a solo coffee date or a coffee chat as you cherish your cup. Note: no bathrooms. I’ll come be back soon! Drip coffee score: 4.25/5. Pourover score: 4.8/5. Everything else score: 4.75/5. Overall score: 4.75/5.
