This Dish Tells the Story of How COVID-19 Broke the Food System | Bon Appétit

"A small Filipinx restaurant with eight seats and a five-person team led by owners Amber Manuguid and Aaron Verzosa, it relies on a broad community of fishmongers, farmers, ceramists and other local suppliers. The restaurant’s signature Anak Ni Bet—a seasonal take on the Ilokano pinakbet that traditionally includes bitter melon, squash and eggplant—illustrates how many hands and ingredients go into a single dish. When the pandemic hit, owners saw a domino effect across their supplier network, underscoring both the fragility of the local food system and the restaurant’s deep ties to regional producers." - ByPriya Krishna

I love this little gift shop! It’s full of local made items from different artists, and you’ll notice that each section has “About the Artist” cards describing the inspiration behind the art or product. A portion of each purchase also goes back to supporting local artists in Maine. Archipelago also has a selection of all-natural local cosmetics, cleansers, and lotions. I picked up a few items to test and I’ve loved them so far!

I arrived just after closing time (4 pm) but snapped this picture of lampshades I make topping off lamps by Lou Charlett and Lyn Curran. A beautiful shop!

Interesting Art gallery shop with works by Maine artists. Most of the paintings were several hundred dollars. I bought a wooden bird ornament and a cloth Nordic Tomte (garden gnome)

Yelp
We again included this craft shop/gallery on our walking tour of Rockland. The current exhibition was "Visions - Maine's Coastal Edges" that featured the paintings of Kaitlyn Miller and Anne Stuer plus the clay relief sculptures of Randy Fein.

Yelp
Best high end made in Maine store. Excellent selection of Maine made crafts and merchandise. All sales benefit the Island Institute. Great cause. Beautiful store with some of the nicest gifts and crafts from Maine. All of their items are high end and just the pick of the litter. I especially liked the hand blown glass lobster floats. They were awesome. Wonderful selection of Maine books and children's books, as well as stationery. Some clothes and belts and sea bags by various Maine companies. Just wonderful local Maine goods for sale in a nice atmosphere for a great cause.

Yelp
The staff. The staff push you out of the way repeatedly to get to something, several times after you move to avoid being in their way, after you've been in the place for about 90 seconds. They seemed to be huffy because you are IN their store. The facial expressions in this place suggest something bad has happened. There might be an unstated territorial spatial arrangement within the culture of the store, but I was just looking at some wall hangings. I do apologize for looking at items in the store that you were thinking of selling; I promise I will never do this again. The quality of the crafts is rustic-cheesy to good, somewhat overpriced, like at the crafts store at the rest stop off the Maine turnpike near Gardiner, but the staff is rude. A better place to look for higher quality crafts would be Full Circle Artisans in Cornish, but that's a world away.
