The ArcLight Beach Cities was our go-to home theater, so being without it for the last five-plus years has been tough. So glad to have the location back open and with the much-needed refurbishment it needed! We went to a screening on opening week, and it's clear they're still working the bugs out and having to train new staff on the fly, so a little patience is required for anyone coming in the next few weeks. In fact, the employee who helped us at the snack bar mentioned we were the first customers he'd ever helped! Ha! That said, the staff was extremely friendly, eager to assist, and there was a great vibe in the lobby from the moment we walked in.
As a previous review mentioned, the ticket purchasing process through the app felt a bit clunky, as the South Bay location seems to be in a completely different system than the rest of Cinema West's other theaters. So a previous account I'd set up for Cinema West didn't work and a new account had to be created. There was no way to add my rewards number or points to the snack bar purchase. Assuming this is all stuff still in the works.
The first thing any returning previous Arclight goer will notice is that everything has gotten a new coat of paint, carpet, and the building looks and feels brand new. Gone is the Arclight wall of backlit posters, replaced with a lookout to the second floor (presumably for the "Giant Screen" in the first auditorium). The snack bar is stocked with good popcorn and drinks. The beers on tap are, for the most part, all local to El Segundo. And Pinks providing the main dishes is a fun and great addition. The dogs are large foot-longs, akin to the usual Pink's menu. The chili cheese dog included a good deal of delicious chili topping. The Hollywood dog is piled a mile high with toppings. The new bar and seating area around Pinks is spacious, way larger than what Arclight had before. And the patio area will be a welcome addition when the weather warms up.
Inside the theaters, the brand new screens, refurbished walls, new carpeting, and amazing new reclining chairs with personal food trays are fantastic. We were in one of the smaller rooms toward the back, but even the "lessor" rooms feature new laser projection and booming sound. I can't wait to try out one of the larger auditoriums with the 4DX or the previously mentioned giant screen. Presentation was top-notch. Even in the small room. Pre-show content was mercifully provided by a vendor that focuses on the film-going experience, showing behind the scenes featurettes and movie trivia over the horrible AMC preshow. And, compared to AMC, trailers began at the exact screening time, were limited to four trailers run, and we were off and going. So great to not be looking at your watch 30 minutes after the show was supposed to start and you're still watching a Disney Cruise commercial.
All-in-all, Cinema West has brought back the experience I'd hoped that it would and I can't wait to become a regular!
