Arco degli Acetari barely announces itself: a low arched opening on Via del Pellegrino that most people stride past on their way to Campo de’ Fiori. Step through and the city changes scale. The courtyard behind still reads as working fabric: uneven cobbles, shallow façades in ochre and brick red, external stairs bolted onto walls, laundry lines, cats, pots lining the landings. The name points back to the acetari, vinegar and Acqua Acetosa sellers who once used this yard as storage while serving the markets. At the corners, stubby reused columns guard the plaster from old cart wheels. It feels less like a monument and more like someone forgot to modernise one small piece of medieval Rome
