Complete Your Knife Collection With an Ergonomic Ulu | Eater

"Recommended as a direct source for authentic ulus made by Indigenous artists, this gallery is suggested over purchasing appropriated commercial versions in tourist shops or from mainstream knife manufacturers. Buying here helps ensure the knife’s cultural origins are acknowledged and supports Indigenous makers." - Laureli Ivanoff

If you want to make sure you are getting quality art and not some knock off that is overpriced, you need to come here! Mike's gallery is amazing and fairly priced for everything! It takes a lot of time to do what these artists do and he knows them all. You won't be disappointed if you're looking for true art and quality

Wonderful gallery and staff. Lots to look through. Staff even recommends jewelry based off your style. Bought many pieces. Tons of things I regret not picking up

Lovely gallery! The art is beautiful and priced appropriately. The manager we talked to was kind and fun to talk to, and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this gallery.

This store & Mike are beyond great. Such a passion & wealth of knowledge in this gallery that does genuine Northwest Coast & Alaskan Native Art. I wanted to stay longer & talk with Mike & he too wanted me to stay to find out so much history & information on his one of a kind pieces. Sadly I was short of time. I purchased a piece & it came yesterday wrapped with care & in great condition. Wishing this store & Mike all the best.

I walked into the Artic Spirt Art Gallery while on an Alaskan Cruise, on my Birthday in May 2023. I was completely mesmerized by all the beautiful carved pieces of bears, seals, ducks. and walruses, plus Eskimo masks and carvings in this shop that all looked to be very expensive! In addition, I also found a nice collection of Baleen Baskets, which are all Alaskan made! Between May and July, I had purchased more than $5000 dollars on several of their carved bears, seals and a Baleen Basket, with even a discount for being a Law Enforcement Detective in Florida, were still expensive compared to other shops! So that will tell you how much I did not like the this shop. You will not find a finer shop specializing in Alaskan art, fossilized walrus carvings and Ivory carvings of all sorts of Alaskan wildlife, done by the finest Alaskan carvers found any where in Alaska, If you like paying high prices for the pieces It was not a must stop while you are in Ketchikan, Alaska! But I still loved the town❤️! After spending more than $5000, at the shop last year I still find it odd that nobody iwas answering the phone, even when the shop is showing open? What gives? The owner of the shop is not the friendliest person I’ve ever met, and when asked for an artist phone number I got told to go F my self! That is not the type of language I would expect from a shop owner, especially since I am suffering from a Terminal Rare Blood Cancer,, and where I had spent a large amount of money, for Alaskian Art work, at a very high price! “Caveat Emptor”!!

WONDERFUL GALLERY. I learned much about native art and bought several pieces. The owner was a ton of fun and a great teacher. You can tell the store respects the artists culture and skill. So glad I had a chance to see this shop.

My favorite gallery in Ketchikan. Great Native American Baskets (Baleen), sweet prints (wood blocks) upstairs. Very perceptive management.

We had a great learning experience while purchasing a print. I can't wait to return to shop again to learn more.

Yelp
If you are a fan of one of a kind, high-end , handmade art than this is a business not to be missed. These pieces of art are absolutely exquisite and are made from materials only available to native artisans. The work is original, certified and not knock offs like you find in the vast majority of the stores throughout Alaska. The owner Mike, who is extremely friendly and informative will explain how this work is certified and what to look for when you are at other stores. The Level of detail on the sculptures and quality of the work has to be seen to be appreciated. Mike, who has been in Alaska for 50 years and in business for 30 years will give you the history of his business and how he travels to various remote parts of Alaska to obtain these works of art and foster the long term relationships with the native artisans to stock his shop. If you settle on a piece of art he will ship it for you back to the lower 48 providing a convenient way of getting it home, especially the larger pieces of work.

Yelp
Hello all travelers, I have been wanting to visit this gallery since 2017. Finally made it in 2025. It was worth the wait. The owner knows his art and artist. He lives here. This is the place to get a real piece of art from your journey up the Northwest Passage. I brought back a wonderful serigraph from the artist Tale. I was also given a very nice embossed paper art. I have it framed against a printed cloth background from Polynesia, all members of the Pacific. Stop by if you can. It is a short sprint to dock 4. Ben

Yelp
Absolutely amazing!! If you find yourself in Ketchikan don't miss this gallery. The owner, Mike, will answer any questions you may have about the incredible art work. He works closely with the artists to make sure you are getting true Alaskan treasures. I was blown away when I first went into this small-looking gallery. When you visit Alaska you want to take something home to always remind you how beautiful it is. This is where you will find it. Weather you have hundreds of dollars or something more affordable, you will find it at Arctic Spirit Gallery. Make sure to tell Mike his California friend says hello.

Yelp
My wife and I came to Ketchikan with a goal: bring home some local art. After exploring most of downtown Ketchikan and seeing the same mass-produced items, we wandered into Arctic Spirit Gallery and found exactly what we were looking for. They had a variety of native artwork: totems, woodcarvings, tusk/bone carvings, and art prints. The assortment of prints from multiple artists was great and Michael's explanation of the artists background and the meaning of the animals depicted helped us find the perfect print to bring home. Their prices were fair and devoid of the "ship recommended" markup that many other local stores had. We look forward to hanging up our beautiful new artwork at home and being reminded of our time in Alaska.

Yelp
Wow! What a great gallery. Arctic Spirit has a fabulous collection of Alaska Native and NW Coast art. This might be the best Native Art gallery in Alaska. All the major artforms are represented, running the gamut from traditional to contemporary. Prices are varied as well so that anyone could find something beautiful to take home. I always like to know something about the artists whose pieces I buy--and I was pleased to get factsheets/bios on the artists, as well as hear what the owner had to say since he knows many of the artists. Most of the shops in town were full of mass-produced items for tourists. Arctic Spirit Gallery stands out with it's selection of true Alaska and NW Coast art.
