ARDOR Breads and Provisions is a wonderful spot that leaves a lasting impression. The ambience is warm and inviting with a clean space, cozy interiors, and beautiful pictures on the walls that add charm to the dining experience. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to help, and the chef is very friendly too, making the visit even more enjoyable. We have known this place since the time it did not have the additional seating area, and it has only grown better over time. Both the food and beverages are excellent. Every bite shows the effort the team is putting behind, and the menu offers delicious flavors that make it worth every visit. The bakery items are a highlight and should definitely not be missed, as they showcase freshness and great taste. Parking is convenient too, with public parking available just opposite the restaurant.

Wow. Every. Bite. When eating the pavlova dessert, my wife said, “I don’t know what’s happening in my mouth, but I like it.” And for the whole evening, “I want to experience it all again.” Every plate was delicious and made us want more. The three libras drink had depth and was bursting with flavor. Bucky our server made the evening incredibly special. Highly recommend.

First time in, got a flat white and the rigatoni. Atmosphere and the dishes aesthetic lend themselves to a higher end dining experience. However the rigatoni was room temperature with some cold bites, as if the warming lamp was not low enough or present at all. Flat white was good but perhaps I came in with higher expectations than warranted. Phenomenal environment for a group dinner and enough variety to satisfy everyone. Will definitely come again and hope for a 5/5 experience.

A Culinary Experience in Peoria We had an unforgettable evening at Ardor Breads and Provisions, starting with cocktails at the beautifully designed upstairs bar, Revel & Maker. My wife enjoyed the “Isabella” – a refreshing and elegant blend of gin, elderflower, bitter orange, lime, honey, and cava. I went with the “White Negroni,” a bold and balanced mix of gin, Bitter Bianco, dry vermouth, and lemon essence. Both drinks were expertly crafted and set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. Dinner at Ardor is designed for sharing, and every dish was a standout. We began with the Breads & Salted Butter—a warm and comforting combination of sourdough and focaccia that perfectly showcased their house baking. Our vegetable course, the Embered & Marinated Kohlrabi with goat cheese, almond, and herbes de Provence, was inventive and full of flavor. The Hand Shaped Pea & Ricotta Cappelletti in pea shell and smoked ham brodo was delicate yet deeply satisfying—true comfort food with finesse. For our main protein, the Kilgus Farm Double Bone Pork Chop cooked over the open hearth was a showstopper. It came with a unique coconut milk soubise and a tangy rhubarb ‘nuoc cham’ that elevated every bite. We ended the meal with a stunning Torched Pavlova layered with cheesecake, strawberry, butter cookie, and rhubarb sorbet—an imaginative and refreshing finish. It’s rare to find a restaurant of this caliber in a city the size of Peoria. This level of creativity, execution, and hospitality is typically reserved for dining scenes in cities like Chicago or New York. For anyone who loves food as much as we do, Ardor is a must-visit. Truly a gem—Peoria is lucky to have it.

We come in often for baked goods and brunch. However, we finally visited for dinner and the grilled pork shank did not disappoint! Absolutely delicious, well seasoned and cooked to perfection.

Google
Ardor is undoubtedly a restaurant for refined palates— no ordinary fare here. The meals are inventive, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is equally impressive, with a serene, stylish patio that perfectly complements the elevated cuisine. That said, our Mother’s Day experience left us with mixed feelings. We had a 12:15 PM reservation specifically requesting the patio. Upon arrival at 12:10, we were told there was no table available for us on the patio. Though we were offered an indoor table, we declined given the lovely weather, and opted to wait especially since that was what we requested. Unfortunately, we sat directly behind the hostess, visibly waiting for 45 minutes, and during that time, the hostess extended no proactive communication or gesture (like a complimentary drink) was extended. A kind server—not the hostess—finally noticed after 25 mins and brought us coffee, which was appreciated. Once seated at 12:59 PM, we learned that three items on the already minimal menu were sold out (2 drinks and 1 main). It’s hard not to feel that had we been seated on time, we may have had a chance to order them. Service was hit or miss. Our main server was apologetic and polite, but water glasses were inconsistently filled, and the family-style dishes arrived without serving utensils—raising both etiquette and hygiene concerns- we had to get up to ask for some. The individuals who brought out the food were knowledgeable and warm, and the manager did check in multiple times, which we appreciated. Ardor’s food and ambiance are both excellent, but the front-of-house operations need real attention. Stronger training in guest relations, basic table service standards, and attention to detail would go a long way. As much as we enjoyed the food, it’s hard to say whether we’ll return.

While "thank you" may seem like a simple phrase, it truly does not encompass the depth of my gratitude for your exceptional efforts. I am truly appreciative of the exceptional customer service experience I have received from Nick, best involved with my lunch decisions. Semper Fidelis

Google
Honestly a little pretentious and unapproachable but the food is good and the baked goods are top tier. The menu needs improved as their sections weren't labeled so I didn't realize they had pizzas on there until the server pointed it out. In general it seems they really care about the ingredients, presentation, and quality of their food so I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
I came to dine in-house on a busy weekend. The restaurant itself is very beautiful with exposed brick and modern aesthetic, the time to be seated was also reasonable I was with a group and got assorted items and appetizers, the menu is medium sized and they have specific items in each category. I would suggest checking the menu before your visit to see if anything sounds good. We got some bread which was served with butter and was fantastic a few pizzas and a salad all were good. There were some specialty drinks that I was not able to try but all sounded really delicious. I wish there was abit more flexibility in the menu but overall everything had good quality and just the right serving size, one of the pizzas was peas and pecorino, that one was a strange combo but the tomato and mushroom goat cheese pizzas were really great

Yelp
I had the sour dough starter and Ribolitta cup serving. Both were very good. The sour dough was, in my opinion, exceptional. Considering how busy they were (it was noon) the service was good, though slightly sluggish, but like I said, given the hustle and bustle, pretty good The ambiance was nice but was, as I said, busy. The tables were set a good distance apart and didn't interfere with travel or each other. Overall a very good experience. This was my first time here and will be back again.

Yelp
This wood fired cafe will drive your taste buds crazy and will bring you back for more delicious entrees, snacks and desserts. A few of our favorites include the dark rye sea salt chocolate cookie, butter croissant, oatmeal cream pie, and the Kimchi fried chicken sandwich!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised to find this gem in downtown Peoria. The trout sandwich was nicely fried with the coleslaw being a perfect compliment. The salad was fresh and flavorful. I would want to come back and try the pastries next time!

Justin S.

Yelp
Food was unique and delicious! Exceptional service. Drink was made to perfection. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Amazing Sunday Brunch. I can't wait to go back for dinner menu. The blueberry crumble latte was also fabulous

Yelp
Oh my yuminess! The food here is quite delicious! Loved all the breaded delights! Service was ok. Our waiter brought us what we asked for. Water cups are very small here so if you are looking to quench your thirst here you may actually want to have your own water bottle or order another drink as refill time took a while. Ambiance was super hustle and bustling....busy. Be prepared to wait to eat here, but worth it.

Yelp
Can I rate this more than 5? I have great ardor for this gem in Peoria. I have been to brunch, dinner, cocktails, and a wine dinner and all have been 5 stars. From the service to atmosphere to the food I would rate this as one of my favorite spots in the world! I remember getting coffee on war memorial to following them to a small spot next door to seeing this whole operation and it is something to be proud of. If you are just coming for a delicious pastry that would rival any shop in Paris to a full meal you should expect nothing short of perfection. I could go on but I will let the pics speak for themselves. Thank you for doing what you do!

Yelp
I can't believe how lucky Peoria is to have such an amazing restaurant. My dinner was so incredible that I had to come back the next morning for their bakery items. The quality of their food is outstanding, and the service was impeccable. We felt well taken care of and attended to by really kind staff. Their menu has some really fun takes on popular dishes and the flavor is not lacking. Whether you go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it won't disappoint you. Couldn't recommend them enough!

May G.

Yelp
Having gleefully moved to Peoria, with Ardor on our legit list of reasons why, I am a superfan, with two suggestions: 1. Your zero proof cocktails are almost perfect. But We Who Enjoy Mocktails more out of necessity than pure interest seek a cocktail experience, not a large glass of something, even if that something is as tasty as what you're offering. Give us the full cocktail experience in a small, fancy-ass glass. You wouldn't serve a martini in a tumbler, wouldja? 2. You gotta kick the kitchen staff off the musical curation role for the dining room. No one wants to be blasted with Peal Jam while mouthing the most sublime and delightfully obscene morel with their foodie lover.

Yelp
This place was OUTSTANDING!!! The ambiance was welcoming and chic! The food was SPOT ON and the baked goods - wow!!!!! The presentation of the dishes were creative and beautiful and the flavors did not disappoint. What a great place!! We actually met Zeke, the Sous chef a few nights before and he told us about it. Thanks, Zeke!! You were right, everything was delicious.

Yelp
Don't let the name fool you. This is more than a bread shop. It's a nice bistro restaurant with a unique menu. There is a take-out bakery side, with pastry and bread that looked absolutely amazing. We ate Sunday brunch in the restaurant side. It was very busy, so I was happy we made a reservation. I had the steak and egg sandwich with horseradish aioli. It was not what I expected when our server delivered it, because the steak was chopped up (almost like a pulled pork consistency). It also had a red cabbage slaw on it, which was another pleasant surprise. It was delicious. I ate it with a knife and fork, because it was a bit messy. My friends had different versions of the breakfast platter. One asked for eggs over medium (they actually came over easy) and the bacon crispy. The bacon is very sweet and sticky (at least when cooked crispy). My other friend ordered scrambled eggs with avocado. Both got the potato terrine. It sounded better than it tasted. They both loved the sourdough toast. I tried to order one of the large chocolate chip and rye cookies to take away, but they had already run out. The restaurant has a trendy vibe and uses the space well for the bakery and restaurant. My biggest disappointment was that they did not bring our food at the same time. My sandwich and their potato terrines came out several minutes before their platters. That always makes things awkward because I sit there waiting for their food to arrive, and they feel bad that my food is getting cold while we wait. Hopefully that was a "one off" experience and not their usual process.

Yelp
The bread and pastries, some of the best in Illinois that I have tried, had croissants so flaky you could see each layer. The ambiance is nice. The menu is unusual breakfast food done with a modern flare. The service was great.

Yelp
Hands down the best restaurant in Peoria and maybe even North America. I easily eat a loaf of sour dough each time we go

Yelp
Went here twice. Got the breakfast platter the first time. Was not so impressed. Went back and tried the krispykouign and both my daughter and I really liked it. It's $5 cheaper than the breakfast platter too. The bacon is mapley. Really good. Bit of a mess to eat but otherwise all good. Call me crazy but I could do without the smell of the wood fire. Left my shirt smelling like it after I left. The pastries are good too but I don't like how they add a mandatory tip for putting a croissant in a bag. Come on now...

Yelp
Honestly, I've never had any issues before with this place. Food is delicious and service has always been amazing. Last Friday,4/18, we had a reservation at 5pm. We didn't leave until almost 730pm because we had to wait for the porterhouse for an hour. We kept waiting and when it finally arrived, it was the wrong order. We were told that it would take another 2 mins to get the right order. 15mins later, still no porterhouse. When we finally got it, we took couple of bites and had to pack it to go because we had a toddler with us who was getting cranky. Although we were given free appetizer and got credited for 2 drinks, the amount of time we wasted waiting for our food was ridiculous. When we got there, there were only a few customers so not sure what happened. Waiter had forgotten one drink, we had to ask for it. Overall, I'd give it 2 stars because of the service.

Yelp
Ardor after dark, dinner here for the first time. We had to wait for our table but went upstairs to the bar/ cocktail lounge area, so cool. Come early just to go. Drinks were fantastic and the service was great. Back downstairs for dinner. It's a shared plate style eating experience. Even tough one dairy allergy they were able to accommodate. I was a little worried because there was a lot of cheese and butter on the menu. The winter greens salad was simple but really tasty. I loved the kohlrabi, it was very rustic and delicious. Ended with the half chicken and scallops. The chicken was so tender! Great flavor. The scallops, although not dairy free were really really good. Cooked to perfection.

Audrone A.

Yelp
Pastries are over baked and over priced. Wouldn't mind to pay,but not for a dark dry tasting like hay croissant and it's not one, burned by an accident, all of them. Not the taste not for the price. Not coming back.

Yelp
We are in town for a wedding and this was one of the recommended places to dine. It certainly did not disappoint. As the name implies, Ardor has outstanding breads. The sourdough in particular was absolutely to die for. If you're just looking to grab some bread and go, they also have that as an option. The inside is pretty and have a very nice rustic aesthetic. Also, they don't do any alterations to the food and I respect that because that means they trust their recipes to be outstanding every time.

Yelp
Absolutely the best bakery, it's unbelievably good. Ambience was awesome, could stay there all day and eat periodically and love every minute of it. Our server was phenomenal, super nice, and made some great recs! Went the next day because we couldn't help ourselves, and walked out with amazing focaccia bread, super flaky and tasty pastries, and wish we had an endless supply. Will go back every chance we get!

Yelp
Great food and service. Unique, tasty and beautiful. Highly recommend. Very nice spot. I like it inside.

Yelp
We were shocked by how much we loved Ardor! We started with orange cinnamon toast and it might have been the best thing we ate. Everything was delicious, came out fast, and our server was great. The only weak link was the Bloody Mary, which my husband didn't love because it was unconventional- made with fresh tomatoes, maybe? Give it a try if that's your thing!

Yelp
Not recommended for picky eaters. They do not alter any menu options - not even for allergies. Great place for someone that enjoys an eclectic menu, just not for me.

Yelp
Time: 12:30pm - lunch (Saturday) Think to a moment, an experience or a meal that just was nice, good (really good) and made you smile and left you happy. This is how I felt after my dining experience at Ardor Breads and Provisions this past Saturday (7/26/25). When I arrived, I was greeted warmly by the hostess and taken to my front row seat peering into the open-air concept kitchen. This level of transparency takes guts to showcase in front of all to see. The team worked together in harmony; quiet, calm but efficient. The tables were full, but the dining space didn't feel loud, hurried or stressed. People were enjoying their offerings and company. My meal order: green goddess mocktail, ricotta dumplings with chicken & oatmeal creme pie (to go) Drink: expertly crafted and the flavors held together without being watered down - lovely, refreshing, balanced Food: Broth that tasted layered, with a viscous hearty quality. The temperature of the broth is worth noting because it was proper. Cool enough to have the ricotta dumplings adorn instead of them dissipating. Texture was provided I believe by breadcrumbs, delicious. The dumplings were soft in the right places but held shape able to be cut by a knife and I could see the separation between the filling and dough - wow! Oatmeal creme pie, yum - really what can you say. My only comment/suggestion for improvement: dark meat chicken when exposed to high heat for too long, possibly in a holding capacity (broth - during service) tends to seize up and become rubbery, almost bouncy in texture which to me is unpleasant. What about a pork shank, braised beef or a pulled chicken? Many other menu items I spied at the pass looked just great - the brioche and breads for the sandwiches looked perfect. I wish I lived nearer to this restaurant; I would love to experience a cocktail at the bar upstairs (Revel Maker) and try some other menu options. What a great find and place to frequent in Peoria, IL. Thank you for a great dining experience.

Yelp
Loved Ardor - but had a deeply disappointing experience June 11, 2025 experience Unfortunately, I was verbally abused and humiliated by one of the waiters at Ardor . What happened -I arrived at Ardor, placed an order for coffee and brioche at the order desk, and requested to be seated outside. While waiting, I changed my mind and asked another waiter-who seated me-if I could cancel the brioche and order a pizza instead. A few moments later, the first waiter (who seemed visibly stressed) came to take my order for pizza. I asked if it could be made without Parmesan, and he replied curtly, "Oh no, no, we can't do that." Due to a misunderstanding, the brioche I had canceled was still brought to my table. When I informed the waiter that I had changed my mind and no longer wanted it, he became visibly frustrated and angrily insisted, "Yes, you did order it!" Shocked by his unkind attitude, I asked if he was upset. My question seemed to further irritate him-he began yelling at me, pointing his finger in my face, and telling me I should pay the bill and leave immediately. I was stunned, humiliated, and deeply disrespected. I asked to speak with the manager. While I was explaining the situation, the waiter continued to be disrespectful, interrupting yelling at me as I spoke. The manager eventually asked him to step aside and attempted to convince him to apologize -but without success.During the conversation between manager and the waiter continued to act aggressively and acting like someone who has anger management problems ( obviously not a perfect person to work in hospitality)The manager listened to me but never offered an apology. Following the incident, I submitted a complaint via email to the restaurant's management. I did receive a written apology in response, which I appreciate. However, I feel that the apology alone is insufficient, especially given the severity of the mistreatment I experienced. It appears that no meaningful consequences were imposed on the individual responsible for the abuse, which is very disappointing. Food: 5/5 | Service: 1/5 | Atmosphere: 1/5

Yelp
I've only had the bread and pastries but I'm going to try their full service menu soon. Can't wait!
google avatar

Sage O.

Yelp
You know it's good when I compare @ardorbp to the pastries I eats in Paris... Even though I'm obsessed with their croissants but I just had to try this breakfast platter! I'm not a huge fan of mustard but these mustard seeds gave this plate some complexity that I enjoyed! Of course the sourdough did not disappoint and putting it all together was a delicious bite! The pictures don't even do it justice...just go there and see for yourself The service is always so prompt and friendly. There's not a lot of seating, just 4 tables ad then a bar area but I know they just opened up a whole new restaurant on the other side that has way more space.
google avatar

Connie O.

Yelp
The food and the drinks were amazing. Very well thought out and extremely well executed. This is more than food -it is an art! Beautiful baked pastries and the Krispy koiugn was a sweet and savory sandwich that makes me want to make the 2 hour drive to get another one!

Yelp
I'm going to be honest, this city has very little good food. So to say this is the best restaurant I've tried in Peoria isn't saying much, but it is genuinely amazing. Located in the old industrial district, you have access to a number of other shops, bars, and restaurants in what has been becoming a pretty dope river walk. Emphasis on "becoming." Will the river walk ever make it? Idk, but Ardor is certainly helping the cause. We got takeout, but from what little I saw, the restaurant was downright viby. I ordered the sausage burger, which came with a brioche bun, arugula, and some sort of honey mustard that tasted like kitten cuddles feel (the best). If you ever for some unfortunate reason find yourself in Peoria, Illinois, this place will easily make up for that mistake. Please, please go here.

Yelp
Marylin was my server and she was great and very helpful. The food was delicious and my coffee was great as well.

Yelp
Oh Ardor ardor... what's happening to you... why is the service getting worse and worse.... We interacted with our server 4 times in total - 1. To get our drink order, 2. To get our food order, 3. Cause I flagged our server for salt 4. Cause I flagged our server for our bill The server was near by us many times once our meal was brought out but never checked in nor paid attention that we were done with our meal and just sitting there wasting our time waiting for him. There was a couple who were seated next to us, they waited about 5 min and left as no one acknowledged them. Our server brought water to that table after the couple left and I don't think our server had an idea and they left. And drinks and food... WHY are things not hot... -My latte was... luke warm..... I asked for hot latte ... not in between of hot and ice... -Food... it was on the verge of getting cold... - overall I have to assume that drinks and food have been sitting to be brought to customers? Or there needs to be some changes to make things hot. And what's up with adding automatic 15% tip at the bakery area where u can't change anything. Leaving tip should be up to customers. If you want to charge more, just either charge more or call it service fee. Don't add 15% tip automatically. Lastly...and this might be just me being old..but the music... do I need to listen to lounge bar music @ 9am music...? I get it... it's a personal preference but man.. I was ready to go to bed while I was there Bottom line.. when you are dropping $80 for breakfast for two people and then another $40 at bakery... I expect at minimum basic service is provided. Or is my expectation too high...?
google avatar

Archana A.

Yelp
They automatically add a 15% gratuity to the bakery items where a person is literally putting things in a box. I understand adding a gratuity to the drinks because that requires prep, but I'm not ok with paying 15% extra just because the bakery isn't self serve. I guess we will only be dining in from on because we're paying for the service anyway.

Yelp
Hands down the best place to eat in Peoria! You will not be disappointed with anything you try on the menu! Waiting staff are very friendly and helpful as usual! Great job guys you never disappoint!!

Yelp
Great brunch with unique breakfast and lunch options ! Service is fast and high quality despite the busy crowd. If you're looking for great ambiance and better food please check out Ardor.

Yelp
Food was great and unique. A lot of ingredients we were not familiar with but don't let that stop you, high quality and very flavorful.

Yelp
Just exceptional. Great location, awesome aesthetic, and amazing service! The food was consistently amazing. Everything we ordered tasted fresh clean and delicious! Beautiful presentations as well! I was wary of the chocolate croissant being bitter as it is made out of dark chocolate but it was delightfully sweet and so perfectly flaky! The pickle plate was gorgeous and unique! Maybe only suited for true pickled food lovers. I was the only one who loved it. I ordered the kimchi fried chicken sandwich and the breading was perfectly crispy/buttery. The kimchi had just the right amount of heat/burn. My mom ordered the omelette and my dad ordered the breakfast platter. They were both extremely impressed. 10/10! Can't wait to come back for the cocktail lounge they're opening upstairs!
google avatar

Bruce W.

Yelp
Incredible location and presentation. A bit pricey but well worth it. The pork sausage burger for breakfast may be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. If you happen to be in Peoria, please try this place out.
google avatar

JulieN B.

Yelp
Went here mid day in a Friday and got in pretty easy. It was a 75 degree day so people sat outside which looked pleasant but the inside was cozy. The menu was what you'd expect from a bakery/farm-to-table style restaurant which wasn't what we wanted at the time (we were hungry hungry) and the couple things we wanted they were out of stock (by noon) because they are farm to table so the food is fresh which made up for the lack options. Look forward to sitting outside during a beautiful day!

Steve S.

Yelp
they are cook first, customer last. this restaurant refuses to make any edits to your order. we asked the server if we are allergic to something, can you take it off, they responded with "find something else on the menu"

Yelp
Amazing focaccia. Interesting menu items, great service and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly.

Yelp
The food, the service the ambience are all fantastic. Mostly I absolutely love their pastries all from scratch with local products. They are absolutely wonderful they aren't cheep but you get what you pay for. I don't think you will be disappointed

Yelp
Wow, almost $100 for a bowl of chicken and dumplings two glasses of wine and dessert. The food was fine, although the lunch menu was too limited for me. I should've come here for dinner when the menu is more generous. The food was fine and the service was adequate.I recommend our door for a special occasion, not frequent to dining.. It's too expensive. No the glass of wine is only 1/4 to 1/3 full. I experienced this before on rare occasions and when I questioned it, I was told that's the level that a wineglasses filled. I've had glasses of wines so many times I've last count. This is only happened twice. Once here, and once decades ago at a place in California. This is not a full portion of wine.

Yelp
Luckily, the food and kitchen staff made up for the snooty wait staff. Everyone has bad days but it's not that hard to not act like a jerk. Experience would have been a lot better if our server had a sliver of personality. Apart from that, the food was great and sitting at the bar made for a fun little show. Similar to watching an episode of The Bear minus all the cursing and airborne glassware.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! Great decor and ambiance that makes you feel like you're in Chicago, in a pier at a high end farmer market! So awesome once you walk in. Breads you can smell walking in, to cappuccinos you can feel. You know what this bread reminds of... the crispy bread scene in Ratatouille with Remi and the bread. They make an actual soft scramble. A great one at that! Did not expect that. Toast was crispy with a soft warm inside. Composition was savory sweet crispy...the breakfast trifecta. Honestly shocked as I was there visiting, I didn't expect to find a place that hits like this. Looks like they are expanding, great news. Everyone is friendly and super patient for new guest. Great vibes, I can't wait to go back to visit my family, this is a huge plus!

Yelp
Great food- that gets a five . Service was pleasant. BUT there aren't prices on anything. I ordered 4 bakery items as carry out, paying cash. They automatically add a 15% (3.29) "carry out service fee". Notice of that was also not posted. Not knowing that I put cash in the tip jar before I was given the receipt. I realize good quality baked goods are not inexpensive. (Price was $5.48 per item) What is the carry out fee for other than a tip for bagging the muffins? Tax 2.77. Total $27.98 plus the additional cash I added for the tip. A little transparency would be appreciated, and I would not leave with a bad impression as a first time customer.

Yelp
Why are the pastries baked so dark? Also, it's too dry. It would be much better if the pastries were baked just a little less...it wouldn't be so dark and dry....

Yelp
This might be the best bakery I've ever had the pleasure of eating at, but there is tragedy in this tale of unrequited love as your protagonist is left alone, exactly 2,041 miles from this place that can only be described as magical. Scene: early morning, a business trip brings a hungry traveler to Peoria and the hotel breakfast buffet only inspires disgust; he leaves the lobby without so much as one of the tired donuts in his claw. Details are sketchy but after wandering what must have been miles through wind and rain (1/2 mile, sunny) he spies a line out the door of a shop and investigates, the shop is miraculously lit by a beam of pure sunlight. Ok, you get the point. Pastries. I mean like an enlightened capability to manipulate yeasted laminated dough into a higher form of existence seems to be their specialty, or at least that superpower is what caused me to fall deeply, truly in love with this place. I chose the savory breakfast biscuit/muffin offering and a plain croissant (the latter is the benchmark by which I rank every bakery I visit) and I INSTANTLY knew that going home was no longer something to look forward to, it is a place of loss and longing, a place without Ardor. Also: their chocolate chip cookies are structurally unsound, their center cannot stand up and tragically collapse into a perfectly baked soft lava of chocolate and divine blessing. I've already informed my work that I volunteer for any business trips that will get me within 100 miles of this place Oh, service was friendly and fast, ambiance was a cool, post-industrial bakery (is that a thing?). Not really sure as my eyes were locked on their offerings and not on the decor. Honestly, the place could have been on fire and I would have stood there waiting for my chance to get their goods.
