This family-run Venezuelan eatery serves arepas, empanadas & exotic juices in a no-frills setting.
"At Arepera Guacuco, you’ll eat thick corn patties packed with fillings like pernil and pabellon (beef, cheese, beans, plantains) in a super casual environment. This is a family-run establishment, named after the beach where the owner’s mother was born—and that mother runs the kitchen." - neha talreja, hannah albertine, bryan kim, sonal shah, willa moore
"Mother and son team, Carmen and Leonardo, opened this amazing Venezuelan joint back in 2010, and it's been a godsend. From their delicious vegetariana arepa (avocado, salty guayanes cheese, sweet plantains & slice of tomato), pabellon criollo dish (shredded beef, white rice, black beans, fried sweet plantains, sprinkled with salty cheese), traditional tres en uno juice (beet, carrot, fresh-squeezed orange juice), to the star of the show: the COCADA (insanely delicious coconut milk shake). Guacuco is one of our favorites, not only for the food, but for the great soundtrack, and the warmth of the owners and staff." - WSDIA | WeShouldDoItAll
"Deciding if you want to order from Arepera Guacuco is easy. The answer is yes. Deciding if you want to focus on the arepas at this Venezuelan spot in Bushwick is also easy. But deciding which one to order is far more difficult. There are 12 different types, and each one includes a thick corn patty packed with delicious fillings. We like the pernil (pork shoulder) and pabellon (beef, cheese, beans, plantains), but don’t stress out too much - all of them are enjoyable and less than $10." - bryan kim, matt tervooren
"Looking for something you can eat with one hand while you attempt to work from home with the other? Get an arepa stuffed with pernil, cheese, and plantains from Arepera Guacuco. They have locations in Bushwick (347-305-3300) and Bed-Stuy (718-387-2300), all of the arepas are $10 or less, and you can call directly for delivery." - team infatuation
"It’s popularity also spawned a series of new Venezuelan restaurants and arepa specialists in the city including Arepa Factory in Manhattan and Guacuco in Bushwick." - Tanay Warerkar
