Grading scale is 4P's. 1 star is mandatory. Then 1 star rewarded for Parking, Picks, Prices, People. Parking: on street parking. When we were there it was Tuesday evening so not terribly busy. But if town is busy. Parking is a nightmare. Loss of 1 star. Picks: Decent selection of comics, used books fit my niche, but I can see how some people may find it lacking. Nice smattering of cards and collectibles. Prices: Beyond fair pricing. No issues here at all. Not deals by any means, but more than fair. People: Gentleman working the counter greeted us upon entry. Answered any questions we had, as well as made pleasant conversation. Above and beyond hospitable and matched the charm of the shop. Definite must visit.

I've been living around this place forever and never went in. Went in today and glad I did. Was on lunch break and was liike I think I will stop by. The owner was great! Got on a text list for the Saga series. Definitely will come back again as from what I could tell the selection was great! Owner gave me some history about the store and gave me some good advice on expecting my 1st child. Good Vibes all the way. Check them out!

Google
This book store is like finding a diamond cut jewel in the rubble. The owner was knowledgeable about different vintage comic books my fiancé was looking to purchase. Just all around delightful visit away from my everyday busy life. Everything is so computerized nowadays it was a pleasure to feel the fabric and textures of the different books 📚

Google
Argos has always had an excellent selection with great owners, but the new couple that have started running things in the last few years are absolutely wonderful.

Argos is definitely one of my favorite book stores in Grand Rapids and probably the best used store. They have a ton of offerings, usually have popular or new release titles, and do a great job organizing their stock. There are two rooms to the store but it is larger than it seems. Prices are good and the staff is super friendly!

If you're a book person you've got to check this place out. The amount and variety of books is stunning. There's also a great amount of comics and graphic novels with all of the weekly new releases. Tons of Star Wars ephemera. And they buy used books and comics! Great store run by great and friendly people.

The owners here are so incredibly kind and thoughtful and overall my selling experience was wonderful! Not to mention, the selection is great and they keep their merchandise current. Do not hesitate to stop by!

Yelp
I am a rare book collector from the Detroit area and loved browsing through this wonderful book store recently during a rare visit to my hometown. Argos is a throwback to a bygone era which, if you love old books, is exactly what you look for in a bookstore. Wish I had an hour to spend there, but in the brief time I had, I found a great old historical book about Michigan and a vintage first edition copy of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and I scooped both of the up.

Yelp
Great store and a great owner, I can't wait to be back to pick up some more books foe a great price!

Yelp
I moved to the downtown area around three years ago and Argos caught my eye because my property company was right across the street and may I say what a gem the store is. I've been going there regularly for an entire year now because I enjoy the weekly comics they restock every Wednesday and there's also paper back, manga, figures, and all sorts of neat gems you can find on the shelves of Argos. The prices are amazing I've gotten great deals for old comic hauls and omnibus comic books I definitely recommend checking them out if you are an avid reader. The staff are also S tier I always feel welcome at Argos it's a highlight of my week every Wednesday It is a joy to hear the bell of the red door, I insist you come to Argos especially if you ever find yourself walking with friends in the East town area, Truly a hidden gem of GR.

Yelp
This place is literally a gem! I'm a (huge) bookworm and I've been going to Argos Book Shop for several years now! They have a huge variety of greatly priced books (my favorite sections are the poetry and psychology sections)! It's the perfect place to browse, especially during rainy days. The owner is extremely kind and helpful. I highly recommend stopping by for some new pickups to add to your collection!

Yelp
Just the absolute best place in Grand Rapids for comics and used books. The selection of comics and books are awesome. They're constantly bringing in new and in-demand or collectible items, and their prices are always really fair. The best thing about Argos, though, is the service. Roger and Crystal are always so helpful and go above and beyond to help me find what I'm looking for!

Yelp
I come here often and I have never been so berated before. I wanted to look at a tarot book I've never seen before under a tarot deck that is still being mass produced. The woman continued to go at me saying unopened it's 250, then changed her pricing to 180. I looked up what she told me and the highest is 40. I understand first addictions. I have some and if it really is 250 no one selling a very "special" first time for less than 30 in a bundle. If you buy here look it up. I promise you'll find their "special first additions" at meijer for the same price. I told them I understand I just wanted to look at the item below because I never seen it. And the woman and her husband would not let it go. I know businesses don't care but they definitely lost my business and I will never recommend them anymore. I miss the original owner. That man was very respectful.

Yelp
Need a good read for the holiday weekend? Weather you're heading up North or staying home, Argos Book Shop can help! ⁣ ⁣ Argos is a new & used book shop in Eastown. It's also the oldest and largest book shop in Grand Rapids! This place is BIG. I still can't believe the amount of books in this place! ⁣ ⁣ They carry everything from children's books, to cookbooks, comics, vintage magazines, rare first editions, and even local yearbooks! There is a book for everyone here. ⁣ ⁣ Argos has friendly staff members that can perform books searches and reserve a book for you too!⁣ ⁣ And hey! They offer educator and student discounts too! ⁣

Yelp
My favorite used book store worldwide. Decades ago, it was my go to place for searching for comics that I couldn't locate at Fanfare or elsewhere. Going to Argos proved that Time is Relative, because the hours I spent in there searching the stacks for desired issues felt like mere minutes. The last time I was in there I was on the search for a paperback copy of Doc Savage's "The Thousand Headed Man," by Kenneth Robeson. I had heard the radio dramatization by NPR (now to be found in the Internet Archive) and I wanted to check out the pulp novel. I couldn't find it anywhere. But Argos had it. A fantastical place.

Yelp
Awesome used bookstore!!! The new owners (as of 2022) know local history, have great recommendations, and have generous discounts for kids' books to encourage reading.

Yelp
Argos is such a great place to come and browse all sorts of books. I come every week to look for new comics ! The staff there makes me feel welcomed and answer any questions I have to the best of their abilities. Would recommend for anyone who enjoys books. There is something for everyone!

MacKayla M.

Yelp
So overwhelming but amazing for all bookworms! Books everywhere, I could have spent the entire day here!

Yelp
What can be said of Argos Book Shop that hasn't already been said by other reviewers? This store truly is a book-junkies paradise! I myself do not read an inordinate number of books over the course of a year (I can probably count the number on one hand) and I am also not a rare book collector. However, I can appreciate the selection of books, magazines, and comics, in addition to the uniqueness of the store. Be sure to check out the second room with the huge selection of Time Life magazine's dating back to the 40's. I tried to find the April 1980 (the month of my b-day) but I struck out. I found every other month...perhaps April of 1980 is a popular collectors item? 4 stars because I think it's a really cool shop, but no 5th star because I have nothing to compare it to except for Barnes and Noble, and the now defunct Borders.

Yelp
This place is a joy just to browse through, but I've never walked away empty handed. Old, new...the stacks and rows seem to change quickly. I try to stop in when I'm in GR. Very friendly staff and a welcome change from the box stores!

Kimberly B.

Yelp
Unique and much loved bookstore. Great Saturday morning stop when you have an hour to get lost in the pages of prior treasured book. Great place for comic book fanatics. And while I myself don't appreciate the love of comics, I'm glad there are those that find the pages interesting. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Love this book shop! Cute and huge selection of comic books as well as all other kinds!

Yelp
I had one of the best book store experiences of my life at Argos. Wandering the streets of Grand Rapids, looking for a knitting store that apparently was a figment of the internet's imagination, I stumbled across this marvelous store that really ought to invest in some cots or couches so shoppers have someplace to nap, because odds are they're going to be there a while. Two large rooms filled with every genre of book imaginable, old and new. When I imagine my ideal city, there is a store a block from my house that has a giant poetry section and also sells comics. Bang, here's Argo. Nabbed some X-Men comics I'd been missing, but spent most of my time amazed at the gems in the poetry aisle. They had every one of Kenneth Rexroth's translations that he did for New Directions. Hell yes. Also grabbed a great anthology of Mexican poetry edited by Octavio Paz. Never knew it existed. Although I did come up empty in my never ending search for some Phillip Lamantia, Argos delivered in just about every other way. Add to that the fact that the gentleman behind the counter couldn't have been any more friendly or helpful and this place is all aces. Next time I go, I'm going with a wheelbarrow.

Yelp
This place is truly a treasure trove, and you never know what you'll find, probably something you didn't even know you were looking for! I'm a big believer in supporting small local businesses, and I'll be coming here for hopefully many years to come! My only problem is both times I went I ended up buying about 8 books and spent more money than I should have. I guess finding too many things I want to buy isn't really a bad thing. I have too many books on my "to read" list right now, but once I dwindle that down I'll go straight to Argos. Hopefully I can get control of my book habit and limit myself to buying 2 at a time and be a more frequent customer. The best part about buying used books is they are cheaper than new from the major chains, and it feels good to support local businesses.

Yelp
OH HOLY bookstore. This is used book heaven! It may be two large rooms, but we can get lost in here. There is every genre imaginable and at least one book from any author on your mind. Vintage comics, D&D books, Dalai Lama books (all at half price). Even found a H.P. Lovecraft. Bought a manga (there was a decent selection) and the amazing book The Tibetan Book of Living in Dying (we highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone, no matter your beliefs, it will change your life) This was a beautiful copy, practically brand new, marked half price! (Our second copy, now we can lend out our first) Readers must stop here.

Yelp
Not always there to buy something but love to just look and always seem to find something and usually out the door with it. A real gem in the Eastown area of Grand Rapids. If you are book-junkie- it is the best in town.

Amy S.

Yelp
I stop in every chance I get, especially in dreary weather. The owner is great, friendly, and always willing to help you find what you're looking for. Take advantage if the student discount! Argo's is full of charm and character.

Larry T.

Yelp
Classic comic and book store in a hip (at least by FL standards) section of Grand Rapids. Vintage SciFi books and decent collection of comics. Pleasant and knowledgeable owner. Only knock is cobwebs and clutter but that goes with the territory.

D L.

Yelp
I love this place as I love books there's also another book store close by if you can't find something in one store you can find it in the other the other one will find books for you and it carries a different kind of books then Argos does Argos tends to be more comics and the place is just jam packed full of stuff

Cyd J.

Yelp
Cool little book shop, and it is walking distance from my house! hey have a lot of selection, I went to a couple book shops none of which had what I wanted, then I got here and found exactly what I needed. I will definitely come back
