Where to Enjoy a Glass of Chardonnay This Summer in New York | Eater

"Right off the Babylon LIRR stop, The Argyle is convenient enough for commuters but cool enough to warrant a special trip. The modern bistro menu leans American with some classic touches — short rib Wellington bites, bacon-wrapped scallops, their ten-ounce signature burger — and the outdoor seating is sleek and low-key. Harken Chardonnay finds its groove here with just about everything on the menu, from snacks to mains to “I’ll just have dessert… and another glass.”" - Julia Gómez Kramer

Delicious food from a generous menu and specials. Nice wine list and cocktail menu! The wait staff members were very friendly, attentive, knowledgable and really nice people!

I had dinner at Argyle Grill & Tavern last night and I can confidently say this place exceeds expectations. From the moment we walked in, the experience was seamless. Although it was busy, we were seated right away, and the staff was incredibly accommodating when we requested a quieter table in the back once one became available. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance, lively and social near the bar in the front, with a more intimate dining area in the back for a relaxed meal. We started with cocktails and they were 10/10 not only delicious but beautifully presented. For appetizers, we went with the tuna rice cakes (highly recommend!), the French onion soup, and were lucky enough to get a taste of the lobster bisque. The owner personally brought it out for us to try, and let me tell you… I’ll be ordering a full bowl next time. It was creamy, buttery, and bursting with flavor, pure comfort in a cup. We also split a Caesar salad, which came perfectly chopped and lightly dressed, exactly how I like it. For entrees, we had the sea bass, the Gorgonzola strip steak, and the spicy stuffed rigatoni. Every dish was packed with flavor, plated beautifully, and cooked to perfection. We couldn’t help but share bites from each other’s plates because everything was that good. From service to presentation, everything was top-notch. The menu is so well thought out, it’s honestly hard to choose so I’ll definitely be back to try more! The price reflects the quality, and in my opinion, it’s worth every penny. Hands down the best dining experience in Babylon Village. You won’t be disappointed. They truly know what they’re doing here.

Google
Awesome food!! Went with a friend. The first course of spicy rigatoni and Thai calamari was absolutely delicious and, for some reason, just paired together perfectly with a white ale beer. Our second courses consisted of the chicken rouleaux and filet mignon. Both were served with garlic mashed and asparagus. Counldn’t fit dessert so just a cappuccino and brought the dessert home to the wife. She said the tiramisu was “ok” but the cheesecake was wonderful. All in all we really were impressed and definitely will be back.

Visited argyle under the new ownership and really happy with the entire experience! Food was super flavorful and delicious and we loved everything recommended by our server. The cocktail list was amazing and love that they kept the classic watermelon martini! Will definitely be returning to try other items on the menu!

Google
My wife and I recently came in for a delightful evening. I ordered the steakhouse bacon from the weekly special menu, while my wife opted for the short rib. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! For dessert, we shared the passionfruit crème brûlée, which was the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Our waitress, Jen, was outstanding. She was helpful, attentive, and provided excellent recommendations that made our dining experience even better. I highly recommend the Argyle Grill and Tavern!

Today I visited for the first time since the reopening. Was blown away by the chicken panini special. My friend ordered the burger, he assures me that it's one of the best he's had. I'm not big on taking pictures of food, but there was a very cool brand on the bun. Keep up the good work fellas!

Google
Had dinner there tonight and all I can say is WOW. From the minute you walk in the door the staff is just incredibly nice. Joe the host is probably the most friendliest host I have come in contact with. We were seated right away and taken care of by Becka. All the food was top notch and not only tasted good but the presentation was excellent. Would not hesitate to go there again or recommend The Argyle to anyone. Go you will not be disappointed.

Google
Fabulous place. The servers and bartenders are amazing. The drinks definitely quenched your thirst and they were more than generous with the alcohol that went in it. The skirt steak was probably one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. And the location is ideal if you want to hang out and go to a movie later. There’s paid parking and parking along the side streets that are free.

Yelp
another wonderful experience at the Argyle and Babylon Village. Our waitress was Rebecca, -very informative and attentive. The manager Joe Flanagan is always welcoming and friendly. Food is consistently delicious and unique. The atmosphere is upscale, dimly lit and beautiful. Love dining at the Argylr !

Yelp
I'm so happy to say, The Argyle is BACK!(Though, let's be honest, it never truly left the hearts of Babylon locals.) Recently revitalized by The Lily Flanagan Restaurant Group (@lfrg_ny ), this iconic spot still exudes its classic charm--romantic ambiance, five-star service without the fuss--and now boasts a fresh menu that's impossible not to love. From a celebratory champagne toast to oysters baked with creamy spinach (surprisingly life-changing), every bite felt like a love letter to our past and present. The highlights? "Takes Two to Mango" (mezcal, mango, jalapeño) for me, and an Old Fashioned made with Argyle's house-distilled bourbon for him. The Thai Calamari, spicy tuna rice cakes, and Surf & Turf Pasta-- blackened skirt steak (cooked exactly how we remember loving it years ago), shrimp, and a creamy sauce that brought it all together like a symphony. Roasted Duck à l'Orange, and it was everything--juicy, tender, and elegantly paired with farro, kale, and a kiss of citrus. And dessert? Snickers Cheesecake that was as indulgent as the night itself. Whether you're celebrating or just craving an unforgettable meal, The Argyle is a must. Oh, and brunch? They've got that covered, too.

Yelp
My wife and I have been back to the Argyle under new ownership and we absolutely loved our experience. We were so happy to hear the Argyle was staying as it is a classic in Babylon, and brings back great memories for us. We appreciated that there was little updates but overall still the same aesthetic we have always known and loved. Our food was delicious, we went back within a week for that French opinion soup and Lobster bisque! I got the burger, one of the best I've had. My wife got the salmon and loved it. All the apps were delicious, especially the goat cheese. Jenn was our waitress, very nice and attentive. Great experience! Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Started off at another restaurant but got to it and they said they weren't opening cause they didn't have enough staff so we came over to The Argyle and it was amazing! I only took a pick of my meal but we also had hamburgers, salmon and I had the Halibut which was one of the specials. Omg! It was amazing!!! I ate every last bite of everything on my plate!!! There was a lobster risotto and mushrooms with it!

Yelp
First time at this establishment. Very loud at the entrance and bar area. A lot of shouting. Could barely hear or have a conversation without yelling. But was seated in the back area. Much quieter and very nice space. The food selection was amazing and lots to choose from. The tuna tartare was excellent as the Thai calamari as well. Oysters delicious. My husband ordered the branzino very tasty. I had the surf and turf, shrimp pasta and skirt steak. Also a great choice. He portions are generous. Could not say anything about the drinks because Dry January for us. But will definitely will go back and try a few.

Yelp
Service was good. Food was overpriced with no flavor. The setting was beautiful nice ambiance.

Yelp
Enjoyed a birthday dinner for a friend. Nice atmosphere, helpful waiter, and fantastic drinks!! Everyone enjoyed the charcuterie and salads topped with additional grilled shrimp and steak. Steak made great left overs. A nice social environment for celebrations!

Yelp
Love the food and ambience! Service was swift, and the we didn't wait long for our meal.

Yelp
Wow! This was my second visit and everything was so amazing both times. First a shout out to Jay at the bar, so quick and friendly. Must try the crab cake, this isn't a little fried cake, it's a pile of amazing crab meat. The lobster bisque is also incredible and I'm still thinking about the pile of butter poached lobster on top. Must try entrees are the halibut and lobster pasta. Both amazing! This exciting menu is exactly what Babylon Village needed!! Service is also second to none!! I wish them many years of great success and I'll be bringing all of my friends.

Eileen F.

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience at The Argyle. Crabcakes and a beautifully cooked NY Strip. I found the atmosphere just the right amount of elegant without being stuffy. And a killer espresso martini! Everyone at my table rated it top notch!
google avatar

Haley G.

Yelp
I have now been to this establishment 3 times since their new ownership and have been nothing but impressed! Weather I've been there as a party of 2 or 8 the service is fantastic and the servers and bartenders are get accommodating! The drinks are absolutely scrumptious I got a dirty martini (with blue cheese olives nice touch) and an espresso martini that was picture worthy! As far as the food goes it simply keeps getting better the oyster supreme, crab cake, coconut shrimp, and bacon wrapped scallops are a must! Kept everyone at the table very happy. As for the entrees the short rib was out of this world! The skirt steak was cooked to perfection and don't forget to check out the weekly specials as well! If you aren't full already the Apple Cobbler with vanilla ice cream is to DIE for! Overall same name completely different establishment really excellent job!

Yelp
Not sure why this place is rated as low as it is. Came here for a ladies night with my aunt and cousin. We came on a Saturday night around 8:30pm and we were told it was a 20-25min wait. Hostess was extremely sweet and greeted us with a smile. The wait was not a problem for us, we grabbed a drink at the bar. Prices were very reasonable, and the wine was a generous pour. The bartender, Joe was outstanding! Personable, funny, and even gave my aunt napkins when she started sneezing out of nowhere... I would come back just to sit at the bar when he was there! I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Music was on, but not too loud, and I am never bothered by noise created by people having a good night. They also had 2 TVs, each showing the NY hockey games (one had the Rangers, one had the islanders). The food all around was FANTASTIC. The clam chowder bowl was the appetizer! I thought it would have been a cup! The Portobello stack was AMAZING. Even my aunt who doesn't like portobello enjoyed her bite she took. My aunt and cousin both enjoyed their entrees as well - very generous portions. Our server, Annabella was superb. Attentive, made good suggestions, and very friendly. I will definitely return the next time I come to visit my family! Edited: We went to go bar hopping and we weren't impressed, so we came back to see Joe, and he was so excited to see us back! We were served by both him and Arthur, who was equally amazing, personable, and because the crowd had settled a bit, was able to chat a bit. Absolutely a place I will return to!

Michael S.

Yelp
Honestly, a top 5 for me. The food and staff are amazing. Jen, Matt, Christian, Matt, Billy and Dan were very attentive and courteous. The staff makes you feel like you're part of them. I've tried 75% of the menu and do not have a complaint yet. Highly recommend this place for a bar setting and/or dine in.

Yelp
Went this weekend for date night and had such a great dinner. Service was excellent and the menu had a really nice selection. We did the crab cake and coconut shrimp as a starter. I did the lobster pasta and my husband had the skirt steak as our entrees. Really big portions and very nice presentation. Can't wait to go back and try something different. Make a reservation because they fill up fast!

Yelp
Growing up in Babylon the Argyle's a staple. Always a great bar crowd with the best cocktails. Their food is also amazing. We went for lunch today and started with the king pow shrimp and calamari over soba noodles. Always delicious. We also got the goat cheese salads with skirt steak on top. Very yummy. Their watermelon martinis are a must try! Everything was good but the service was not it today. Our dude Matt must have went on a long break or just went home cause 35 minutes he never came back lol I got up looking for him and a female server came over to help us. She refilled our drinks and then brought us the check. Just really weird to leave in the middle of having a table without saying a word.

Debbie C.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for dinner Saturday, let me tell you. Our server Jennifer was amazing and very attentive. We got French martini and an old fashion both great! We started with the tuna rice cakes and oysters both also great! My husband got the Strip and I got the Lobster pasta! once again both were out of this world We will be sure to be back!

Yelp
We went there on Sunday night. The place was empty and the hostess was at the podium on the phone for a few minutes. When she got off of the phone she said she'd be right back amd disappeared. We waited for another five minutes, got annoyed and left. Hoping this was an off night not sure we'll try again. I used to love this place.

Yelp
Just want to show the memory plaque mounted outside alley way of Argyle Grill & Tavern. Never forget.

Yelp
Had my Birthday Happy Hour here on Friday and everything from The service to the food was amazing ! We LOVE all of the staff ! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The argyle has been a staple in Babylon for decades but it needed a serious menu change the past few years. Thankfully the new ownership has done just that. I've frequented the new Argyle several times in the past five months and it's always a crowd pleaser. During drinks with work friends, we had several happy hour apps including beef Wellington bites, delicious! Calamari cooked to perfection and the crab cakes never disappoint. For dinner, I've had The lobster bisque, though a belly bomber, it's amazing and worth being stuffed. We tried the Chilean sea bass which I usually do not prefer but they cooked it perfect with lobster risotto that had BIG chunks of lobster! We went back 2 nights later for it. That good! The rib eye with added compound butter was another fave dish. I met a client for lunch there last Friday and had the steak sandwich which was fire!!! Def be back for that. And being the brunch lover I am, I had to go back and try their crabcake eggs Benny which has no bread thankfully (save this calories where you can!) and the Steak and eggs which both I would go back for again! Lastly what to make mention of the bartenders that are always there with a smile on their face. We usually sit at the bar and eat, so it's nice they always make you feel welcome and make extremely tasty cocktails. It's really great the new owners reinvented the place so we have another great local restaurant to frequent. Thank you Argyle!

Yelp
This place is really good. I had one of their specials of the day when I went. Which was a salmon dish. I found it really tasty. I had a a cucumber drink and a bourbon brink and they were both great. It is pricy and definitely not an every night type of place. It definitely is one of those places where you go for celebrations or a once in a while date night.

Danielle F.

Yelp
I've been to The Argyle twice for dinner since re opening with new ownership. The food and drinks were amazing each time. Some of our groups favorites were the beef wellington bites, the lobster pasta, the spicy stuffed rigatoni, the thai calamari, and the burrata salad. The watermelon martini and dirty martini were both great as well. Will be returning.

B P.

Yelp
Well this was certainly better than a few years ago. They have a nice brunch menu on Sunday's but it is expensive. The blood orange mimosas were flavorless. The avocado toast was really good except, the multigrain bread was like killer daves thin sliced and it was over toasted. I probably would not have served it that way at home let alone in a restaurant. But the spicy goat cheese spread made up for it. Don't cut corners Argyle. People don't mind spending money for fresh delicious food. Perhaps find a nice bakery for your multigrain bread. Overall we had a nice meal and i would go back for another try.

Frank D.

Yelp
We have been here a few times since they reopened for dinner or drinks. My wife usually gets the cauliflower steak or burrata salad while I get the filet, skirt steak or burger. Thus far, we have not been disappointed. When not sitting at a table, we enjoy sitting at the bar interacting with the bartenders. The drinks are fabulous. From the Babylon Express to a bourbon mule, you can't go wrong.
google avatar

Jon S.

Yelp
Went there last with my fiancé and it was unbelievable! We started off with bacon wrapped scallops, delicious. Then we proceeded to have the Burrata salad, the surf and turf pasta & spicy tuna rice cakes. The service was great. And the ambiance was very romantic in the back. Everything was 5 stars! Highly recommend

Matthew D.

Yelp
First time returning to the argyle under the new management and i was blown away at the amazing quality of the food and drinks. Highly recommended and will be back soon!

Frank C.

Yelp
Tried the new brunch since my last visit was a great dinner. The food was excellent again and it wasn't hectic like most brunch spots can be. Service was quick and pleasant. I would recommend one of the poached egg dishes and the Bloody Mary was just right. It's a nice relaxing dining experience at a reasonable price. I'll be back again to try other dishes for sure.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
We went to the argyle for dinner on a Saturday night it was amazing ! We walked in and first impression was great hostess was so sweet and accommodating we didn't have a reservation and we got sat quickly just enough to grab a drink at the bar . The bartender Jay was awesome ! Our server Holly was so sweet and recommended all the best . Hands down to the chef food was spot on . short rib was amazing and the ribeye cooked to perfection . We will be back ! Thanks for a great date night .

Jason N.

Yelp
Came here last night for my wife's birthday and had an amazing time! Tried one of their weekly specials, followed by their Ribeye and it was one of the best meals I've had in a really long time. Told the waiter it was my wife's birthday and he surprised us with a candle in her dessert. The atmosphere was very welcoming and we never felt rushed. Will be back

Lauren S.

Yelp
Came twice since new ownership & wow! Once for a date night, we had Holly as a server. Service was phenomenal and the food was top notch. Highly recommend the Wellington bites, the tuna rice cakes & you need to finish with dessert and espresso martini! Really can't recommend enough.

Anthony B.

Yelp
If you are looking for steak house ambiance without the prices of Insignia & other restaurants, the Argyle is exactly what you're looking for. Lily Flanagans Restaurant Group did a great job re vamping the place. The menu and its pairings are excellent. From the staff, to the head chef, to management, the team at the Argyle will truly provide you with a great experience. Perfect spot for a date night.

Yelp
This is not our first visit to Argyle. We stopped in on a Monday night and were promptly seated. We ordered the Monday $10 burger and a quesadilla. Our food was very tasty and came with a wonderful presentation. The food tasted very good and was of proper temperature Etc. The desert selection is very nice also. We chose the red velvet cake which was delicious. So all in all the food is a five star worthy visit. Where it all falls to SxxT is Margo the waitress. I might have to call the board of labor and have them investigate whether she is suffering forced labor. She was the most cold, impersonal waitress possible. No introduction, no interaction, just the facts. Maybe her entire family abandoned her recently and she is devastated but she is not my candidate for waitress of the year. In 2023 I guess some people do not value a personal touch and some friendly interaction. Hey, maybe even a smile? For this she was tipped appropriately. If we go back hopefully Margo will have found a career more fitting her personality, or lack thereof.

Tracy T.

Yelp
Tried the Argyle for brunch yesterday, I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was amazing. Our waitress Jennifer was great and very attentive. It was our first time there and we were very impressed with the service and food. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Linda B.

Yelp
So, after a bit of a letdown at The Brixton, (rude hostess) we stumbled upon The Argyle for a quick bite before seeing a show. And let me tell you, we were pleasantly surprised! The vibe was lively with a nautical theme that drew in a good crowd but not so crowded we felt crammed in. Our waiter was great, understanding our time constraint and getting our orders in quick. We went with mostly appetizers and they were all delicious! We had the Brie Stuffed Pretzel, Crispy Calamari, Black Angus Sliders, and nachos. And the cocktails were spot on! So much so that we had to order another before paying the check. Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience at The Argyle and would definitely go back next time we're in Babylon.
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
The service was awesome and the drinks were strong. Highly recommend the stuffed clams

Christina D.

Yelp
They don't answer their phone. Called on a Thursday at 6:30 to place a take out order. So frustrating.

Yelp
Came here to The Argyle Grill for dinner with some friends . As you enter the restaurant there is a nice size bar to the left , where there were many patrons enjoying themselves .To the right are some smaller tables and towards the rear are larger tables set apart with a large mural on the wall . We arrived around 6 PM and were immediately seated , no wait ! The dining area was clean and neat . Service was great , we took our time ordering , the server didn't rush us , he was polite and friendly . Everything we ordered was delicious. We began with ordering some bottled water and a glass of wine and than shared the Kung Pao Shrimp and Calamari appetizer. Although the pieces of the calamari were a bit chewy , hence the 4 stars, it was still tasty, just spicy enough coated in Hoisin sauce with soba noodles and snow peas . Delicious ! My main entree was Chicken Cardinal with red mash potatoes and sautéed spinach . Quite a hearty portion, enough for two ! The chicken was tender, layered with prosciutto , pepper jack cheese and red roasted peppers . The combination of the flavors worked well together ! The mashed potatoes were a basic mash well prepared and nicely seasoned with a simple sautéed spinach . My friends both enjoyed their entrees as well . One ordering the Mediterranean Salad the other the Grilled Greek Chicken. All in all a very nice enjoyable and comfortable evening out.

Yelp
Came here with my boyfriend. It was the only place on the Babylon village strip they didn't require a 30-40 minute wait. Service was quick and the interior is nice. Kind of loud in the restaurant portion but it's a tavern so that makes sense. Our short ribs tacos were beyond dry, no flavor and I didn't even finish the one I was eating. The chicken wings were okay, very very meaty which isn't really my type of wing. Their Brie stuffed pretzels was hands down the best part of this dinner. So good and the jam they served it with? Amazing. Unfortunately, I won't be back. Very expensive bland food.

Yelp
Had lunch yesterday. The waiter started by complaining about a big party coming in to us. He did not bring water to the table and did not ask if we wanted water. We ordered soup, the soup was warm, not hot. This seems to be a reoccurring problem. We ordered drinks. The busser brought the soup. The busser then brought out the entrees and looked at us because he had not cleared away the first course from our table. I did not expect to have to bus my own table. The waiter did not come back. We had the fish and grilled chicken quesadilla. It was just ok. I finally had to ask another waiter for our check. When our waiter finally did come back he asked if we wanted another drink. We said no as our meal was finished. So the food is mediocre and so is the service.
google avatar

Pattie K.

Yelp
The food is delicious - have had several different meals - each was great! I love their soup -clam chowder.

Christine I.

Yelp
Very impressed with the food and service here. Extremely friendly and helpful staff and the food was very good. They had a prix fix menu - $35 for a salad, main course, and a dessert and all of it was delicious. Would definitely go back!!

Yelp
One and Done! St. Patrick's Day 2022, 1:30pm, not busy at all, drinks took a very long time, we ordered shrimp tacos and asked multiple times if they are Gluten Free and safe to eat!? Waiter revised the menu with the cook supposedly and gave us options- stated "Shrimp Tacos are safe". They came out and my girlfriend who has celiacs disease took one bite and said they're too good to be GF. I looked and knew immediately they were flour taco shells.... Waiter apologized for mix up, said GLUTEN FREE was even on the ticket- so either ignorance or laziness played a huge role here. They didn't even take it off of our bill! Hahahah SMH Not impressed with the food or drinks. Decor was nice though...!?
google avatar

Brett P.

Yelp
Meh, the dinner was forgettable, Penne aka Vodka and my wife's Shrimp and Grits did not have much if any flavor. Hers was supposed to be blackened but was not, and mine had very little sauce and I was unable to discern the vodka sauce from regular tomato sauce. The drinks were good and strong and the waiter was attentive and did a good job overall. Noise level was way above average.
google avatar

Wayne S.

Yelp
Went to the Argyle Sat night (1/22). We went for dinner, the food was excellent, the service very good. We sat in the bar room vs the back room (that was what was available). The downside: Reservations would be nice, or an accessible wait list via the web. Get with the program... The noise level due to the ungodly decibels being pumped in from their music was mind numbing. Let's disregard that the music was crap (but you may like it). It add NOTHING, but noise. The bar is loud enough, now you have people SHOUTING at each other to be heard. That increases the noise. Walked to the back room on my wait to the rest rooms. The same lousy music, same volume. Again no value add, but at least quieter (no bar crowd). Guys... wise up. Music is to add not dimmish a patrons visit.

Yelp
-super delicious food -yummy desserts -Good/ big size portions -friendly staff Only down side it was super hot (& it wasn't even that hot outside!) Definitely want to come back & get different meals!!

Donna M.

Yelp
Hosted a birthday brunch for our Mom. The manager Carissa was extremely accommodating and professionally. She was on top of the event and assisted with the cake and decorations. The staff went above and beyond my expectations. Food was delicious and everyone had a great time. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Beautiful place- clean and spacious. Menu looks great. However, we were seated and then completely ignored. Tables around us were served and serviced, yet it was as if we weren't even there. No apologies, no acknowledgment, nothing. After 20 minutes we gave up and left.

Yelp
Great food - love their salads and mashed potatoes. Nice ambiance and very attentive service.
