Consistently horrible service! This will be the last time we eat here.
We didn't feel like venturing out to Monterey for dinner on Valentines Day so decided to try our luck at Arigato, eventhough we were already aware of their slow service based on past experiences so should of known better. They wern't taking reservations so we waited for about 50 minutes to be seated, which was understandable.
As soon as our server, Nayeli I believe her name is based on our receipt, arrived I remembered the last time we were there and had her. We thought about not coming back then because of the horrible service she provided. As she gave us a bland greeting, we gave her our full order. The one thing she did right was bring our waters and lemons right away. Other then that she did not stop in for 45 minutes until I flagged her down and asked if she had any idea when our food would be arriving. When I asked her this she quickly responded with "Oh maybe another 5 to 10 minutes". At this point we asked if we could just get it to go, which she responded would also take about the same amount of time (which was obvious).
After waiting almost another 15 minutes, where another person stopped her about the wait time, I got her attention and asked if she had an update on our food since she never checked back in after walking by multiple times. She responded with "I spoke to my manager about it, and it should be coming out soon". I also requested a refill on our waters.
Soon after this second discussion with Nayeli, where we were almost ready to just walk out, she brought over our food packaged to go. We got our check and paid, not happy and wont be back.
It's unfortunate the service in this place fails on so many levels since the food is actually pretty good. The service is very slow, and even with it being Valentines Day they could of handled it so much better! Perhaps with a "Sorry about the wait, and just a heads up our kitchen times are running longer" as you are waiting to be seated or at the table. The last thing a server should do is avoid their table, which is exactly what our server did to the point she neglected to fill up our waters and looked like she was hiding in the side hallway with the other servers. Also, I'm assuming the manager was the guy we saw cleaning tables and in the back with the sushi chefs sifting through mounds of food orders. A visit from a manager to apologize or try some attempt to fix the ridiculous wait for food would of made it a little better.
So we ate our Valentine's dinner out of to go containers,at home, with no soy sauce.. thanks again Nayeli for that. At least the food tasted good, hence the one star review.
I wouldn't eat here unless you don't mind decent sushi that comes at a higher price and a good chance of horrible service.
