Fun place to go with huge portions! Great recommendations from server when we asked for the most popular rolls that are served. We chose to try something new and it was a great experience.

TheBayArea831

Google
Absolutely delicious! I just found a new favorite Sushi spot in 831. We ordered the Baja crunch, Popcorn Lobster Roll, and Fire Fighter Roll. Staff is helpful with our questions. If you love sushi, you must try Arigato.

Most important thing to know is: THE SUSHI SERVINGS ARE HUGE! And delicious, can't forget that part. Totally worth it. I always enjoy eating here. Servers get a little confused because they seem to help each other out, so not a big deal. Food always comes out hot and tasty.

Hostess and Waitress were professional / sincere and food came out within 10 minutes. Table felt clean. Cleaning chemical smell at waiting area but not near our booth in the back. Food: Chicken teriyaki was nice and tender, thin parts were still edible and not rock hard. Pan fried gyoza was good. Sake nigiri tasted fresh and flavorful. Tempura batter was a little on the hard side. Cali roll jam packed with imitation crab, no cucumber. Subjective take, but not a fan. Son ordered golden philly roll. He enjoyed it, but I dislike philly rolls and deepfrying it didnt help. Other son ordered Green Dragon Roll. No eel, no cucumber, meh sauce on top, extra imitation crab. 🤮 Not a green dragon roll. Apart from being another place thats stingy with their tentsuyu (tiny little black cup not nearly enough for the amount of tempura), the portion sizes were more than what you pay for lunch prices and its like the only Japanese restaurant nearby that doesnt close at 2pm. So, would probably go back if its in that time frame and really craving Japanese. Just gotta stay away from their version of green dragon roll (my favorite at almost every other Japanese restaurant). Maybe ask for extra tempura dipping sauce.

Google
Go here all the time recommend getting the dragon roll I have tried the Miso soup really good as well there's these other soups as well they're really really good to we usually get the lobster popcorn it's probably one of their best meals for the price and you can share that with everybody it's definitely for at least 4-5 people

Google
Usually, this place is the bomb for sushi. On the latest visit a few days ago, the sushi was definitely not to par. The supposed spicy roll was bland, almost tasteless with no heat. Instead of the usual crisp texture, it was soggy, making it near impossible to eat using chop sticks. I'll probably go back to Arigato, but will be sure to point out to management if the quality is again not there. I'll consider this time a one off.

Joel Falcon

Google
I tend to go here 2-3 times a month. I'm a big fan of their chicken teriyaki, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is great. Customer service is good, and services are constantly checking up on you 3-5 times to ensure everything is going well.

Joan Sassman

Google
I always have the teriyaki salmon and tempura plate. It is flaky and delicious. The wait staff keeps the drinks full. They check to see if you need anything. The atmosphere is really dark. Overall it is a nice place to eat.

Yelp
Food is always amazing but unfortunately when I got sushi togo yesterday there was 2 pieces of foil in my French kiss roll. The first one I was able to spot and take out but the second I chewed up a bit :/ never had this issue before.

Yelp
I frequent this restaurant often, not too many good choices for sushi in Salinas. I have dined in on may occasions with my family and historically been very pleased with what they offer. Even more often we tend to choose Arigato for take out as it is convenient and delicious. Today was a dine-in experience. And as always I genuinely expected a similar experience. Unfortunately it was not. Let me get the usual items out of the way. The location is great and parking options broad. You can even make your way over to the nearby yogurt ice cream shop for dessert after. My wife and 3-yo daughter were with me. We were seated quickly. My first observation was that the in restaurant music was up so loud I was unable to carry on a conversation with my wife sitting across from me. We requested they lower the volume as it felt counter intuitive to a social event that would consist of food and conversation. The waitresses body language to my wife's question seemed to articulate that might not be a reasonable request. She went to someone more senior to ask, they lowered it so slightly it was almost indistinguishable. At that point we gave up that fight. Their menu is great for adults, and I was pleased to see some child options but it seemed odd that a child portion of a chicken chow mein dish was the same cost as an adult entree. We gave it a try anyway since the options were really limited. Knowing my daughter I inquired about changing the dish with a substitution for something they have. But without skipping a beat the waitress informed me that was not an option. I would note, I would have been happy to may for a substitution so it's seems misalign with making a profit for the owner but... okayyyy. When her dish arrived it was clear why it was priced the same as an adult entree. I was no different than an adult entree. Recommend you adjust your portions and price for children, though I am not sure why I would need to tell a restaurant the obvious. We ordered our food ( Salinas Roll, Crunch roll, Sashimi, Combination Tempura and the Chicken Chow Mein, as well as two Soju's). As the food arrived it was clear the good side of business was easily a 4-5 star experience. Everything looked fresh and was prepared pretty fast. But as the waitress delivered everything it became clear that no plates, silverware for our toddler, soy sauce bowls, etc... we're going to be delivered. I waved her down and after several attempts succeeded in getting everything we needed. But for a waitress in the service industry this would have been consistent with anyone visibly the restaurant. We enjoyed our meals and were ready to pay but our waitress had disappeared. After 10-15 mins she reappeared and we asked for the bill. As I waited my wife and daughter used the restroom. When they returned my wife noted that our child was afraid to use the bathroom and I quote "I'm scared". Assuming she was just exaggerating I didn't think anything more of it until after receiving the bill I chose to use the restroom. As I opened it I was surprised, it was dungeon dark with a decor in all dark grays. A lone small light above the sink was the only lighting in the room, a rather comfortable sized bathroom as well making the shadows by the toilet and door more noticeable. Now I understood my daughter's response. Well lit I am sure the bathroom is nice. Dimly lit it just seems creepy and makes ine feel you are trying to hide the dirt. In the end my overall experience felt like a 3 star experience with a 4-5 star meal. But all of those other things just diminished the dining experience. I am posting photos of our dishes and I think they taste as good as they look, but I feel like takeout is in my future with them.

Yelp
This is my nieces favorite sushi place and we came here because she suggested it for her HS graduation dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious & I would come again if in the area. Our server was great and our food was served in a timely manner for our party of 9. No mandatory gratuity fee included in our total to my surprise. However, we were happy to leave a voluntary tip for great food and service. i recommend the Salmon dish that comes with miso soup, rice and salad . Sushi rolls are huge without being extra with the rice . I ordered the amazing roll ( eel with shrimp tempura inside . D delicious - not on menu. Saw this ordered by another yelper . We also ordered the bulgogi dish and this was definitely a dish you could shared for two. Also, ordered other rolls and tempura veggies along with gyoza appetizer- we all enjoyed the food. Definitely recommend u try this place out in spite of the low rating of 3 starz - i we had a 5 star experience.

Yelp
Good at Lunch, Ok at Dinner It was busy at both Food in pics at noon, it was quiet and then got busy and noisy. Take out for ppl who don't want to be part of rush hour. Drink wise: they do have fountain drinks(sodas) and Alcohol, but I don't drink because of dietary restriction. I drink mostly sparkling waters or water. If Arigato had Zevia sodas, it be win-win because it's Stevia leaf and carbonated. There is also Stevia leaf and Teas. Bathrooms are good, just for advice for ppl to use hand dryer, or put instruction how to use. I figured it out eventually, or paper towels? ~tap machine opening makes your hands dry ~ My brother has a fetish for spicy food... I loved Caterpillar and dragon roll, they are very yummy. Very avocado healthy. Today was birthday lunch, a weekend before it.

Yelp
Decided to grab lunch from this place after it was recommended to me by a friend. When we arrived, we were immediately added to the waitlist and told it would be at least a 20 minute wait. There are only four chairs inside to sit and wait, so we just stood aside. I did notice that most people waited outside instead. We waited for about 20 to 25 minutes before being seated. We sat with our menus for about five minutes before someone came to take our order, which was perfect since we were ready to order. We got their edamame, California roll, chicken Katsu entrée, and their combination chicken and salmon plate. Everything was delicious. Their edamame definitely needed more salt, which was available at the table. The restaurant looked clean at the staff, were all friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I have been a loyal customer since 2022. I love the Sweet Sarah and the Fat pops roll. I tell everyone to go there and that it's my favorite food. So imagine my disappointment when I saw there was no cream cheese in my Sweet Sarah roll. The cream cheese is my favorite part so I went back and waited while they fixed it. And they handed me this. I went back in my car and couldn't believe it, I went back inside and got a refund. I honestly just felt like they didn't care and I didn't want to wait to eat an expensive roll they didn't care to make correctly after the mistake. Both the person making it and the cashier looks at that and thought "yeah that's okay". So I no longer felt like spending $50 on 3 sushi rolls. I redownloaded yelp just to leave this review.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on the way home from a road trip. Located in a huge strip mall with plenty of parking. We were seated right away and given a high chair for our toddler. Two restrooms in the back. Decor is dim lighting and modern. Feel like a place you go to after partying. We ordered a couple rolls and an udon for the kiddo. Udon was filled with veggies which was much appreciated but the broth didn't taste good. Sushi rolls were good although heavy on the sauce. We do plan on returning when we go on road trips in the future.

Yelp
Came on a Friday for lunch when visiting family. This is their go to spot for Japanese food in town. We were welcomed & seated immediately by the polite hostess. The restaurant is dim, has some nice decorative touches & wallpaper, has a couple of TVs by the bar. Adult contemporary music played a little too loudly. We ordered the Seaweed Salad as an appetizer. From their Lunch Specials Menu, we ordered-- Chicken Teriyaki with Tempura Lunch Box Beef Teriyaki with Tempura Lunch Box Alaska Roll Red and Sweet Roll Amazing Roll My goodness, it was A LOT of food!! The rolls were huge as well!! I was quite surprised, especially for the price! The good--Generous amount of food, it all tasted good, some of the fish pieces on top of the rolls were like nigiri portions! The meh--The distribution of ingredients in the somewhat bland miso soup was uneven, the CA roll was mostly crab mix with scant avo & no cucumber, the tempura shrimp was a thin piece of shrimp with lots of batter, so much food is all together on on. Our server was friendly & smiley. She made sure to check in on us multiple times & let us know the status of our food. She did drop drinks & dishware off at one spot on the table to distribute ourselves. Most of our food came out at once, but one of the lunches had a notable lag time. Overall, a good lunch & you get a lot of bang for your buck with the specials.

Yelp
We walked in the restaurant around 4:30pm on Sunday, many people were dining, seemed a popular place. The Food was not bad. But the service was not attentive; it's very slow and confusing: we ordered two entrees, which "served with soup, salad and rice" according to their menu (see photo). We only received one soup (miso soup with one tiny piece of tofu). We asked. The waitress told us that she would bring another soup, sounded like she was doing us a favor. She came back with one soup, one salad, and one pair of chopsticks. So we asked if we were going to have another salad according to the menu. She said "no, you only get to choose between soup or salad "

Yelp
Good food and service I recommend this place if you are looking for good sushi. The service is also always really friendly.

Yelp
The food quality is good enough to enjoy, but there's definitely room for improve . The location is a plus -- easy to get to and in a nice area. Service was just okay -- nothing bad, but nothing that stood out either. Overall, it's a decent spot, but a few upgrades could really take it to the next level.
google avatar

Yelp
Food really good. Very tasty. Service excellent!! They always acknowledge when you get and give very good suggestions if you do not know what to eat. Ambiance relaxing.

Yelp
I definitely frequent Arigato Sushi quite a bit and it is still my go to sushi restaurant in the Salinas area. They have really tasty options that are filling and do offer plant based/vegan rolls as most places do! However, their yam roll is so so good! The service is always fair and the atmosphere is also nice. This would be a 5 star review but I've noticed a lot of inconsistency between sizes and portions in my last few visits. Regardless, I would still come back.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Very large portions so you definitely get enough to eat. The sushi bar was closed so they sat everyone at tables. The server was nice but had limited knowledge about the menu. It was ok but not great
google avatar

Sarah V.

Yelp
I don't know how I feel about this place. The service was fast, however we had to ask for utensils several times. The plates need to be desperately replaced as most of them are chipped (and sharp). The food was also okay. My friend absolutely loves this place; I just don't know how I feel

Juliana L.

Yelp
Food is amazing! Perfect for date nights and going out with the kids! The ambiance is calm when eating.

Yelp
Consistently horrible service! This will be the last time we eat here. We didn't feel like venturing out to Monterey for dinner on Valentines Day so decided to try our luck at Arigato, eventhough we were already aware of their slow service based on past experiences so should of known better. They wern't taking reservations so we waited for about 50 minutes to be seated, which was understandable. As soon as our server, Nayeli I believe her name is based on our receipt, arrived I remembered the last time we were there and had her. We thought about not coming back then because of the horrible service she provided. As she gave us a bland greeting, we gave her our full order. The one thing she did right was bring our waters and lemons right away. Other then that she did not stop in for 45 minutes until I flagged her down and asked if she had any idea when our food would be arriving. When I asked her this she quickly responded with "Oh maybe another 5 to 10 minutes". At this point we asked if we could just get it to go, which she responded would also take about the same amount of time (which was obvious). After waiting almost another 15 minutes, where another person stopped her about the wait time, I got her attention and asked if she had an update on our food since she never checked back in after walking by multiple times. She responded with "I spoke to my manager about it, and it should be coming out soon". I also requested a refill on our waters. Soon after this second discussion with Nayeli, where we were almost ready to just walk out, she brought over our food packaged to go. We got our check and paid, not happy and wont be back. It's unfortunate the service in this place fails on so many levels since the food is actually pretty good. The service is very slow, and even with it being Valentines Day they could of handled it so much better! Perhaps with a "Sorry about the wait, and just a heads up our kitchen times are running longer" as you are waiting to be seated or at the table. The last thing a server should do is avoid their table, which is exactly what our server did to the point she neglected to fill up our waters and looked like she was hiding in the side hallway with the other servers. Also, I'm assuming the manager was the guy we saw cleaning tables and in the back with the sushi chefs sifting through mounds of food orders. A visit from a manager to apologize or try some attempt to fix the ridiculous wait for food would of made it a little better. So we ate our Valentine's dinner out of to go containers,at home, with no soy sauce.. thanks again Nayeli for that. At least the food tasted good, hence the one star review. I wouldn't eat here unless you don't mind decent sushi that comes at a higher price and a good chance of horrible service.

Yelp
There California roll is the worst . Service was lacking. Ran out of water a few times and had to flag someone down. The ambulance is okay but don't make up for the lack of service. The vegetable tempura was good.

Yelp
Went here with mom few days ago, I was surprised by the portion here, they are big! I ordered the dragon roll and it was delicious. Mom had the chicken teriyaki with tempura and she loved it! Specially the salad with that Japanese dressing lol. The ramen though is a no for me, did not like it at all. service is good.

Linda H.

Yelp
So to be perfectly honest.... We had a bad experience a couple years ago so we weren't going to go there again but since it had been a couple years I thought it would be worth a try.... Well that was a bad idea! The only reason I am giving it two stars because the service was decent. The waitress was nice enough.... The food was a different story. The udon was so salty we couldn't eat it. And we also ordered a tonkatsu ramen and they had spaghetti noodles in it and charged us 2 dollars more for a small piece of pork in the no ramen, ramen. And it tasted terrible. We ordered sushi and it was ok... nothing to write home about, just ok. Kind of hard to mess up California rolls and spicy tuna rolls. I would highly suggest you not go if you want good Japanese food. I feel like that was 110 bucks down the drain! Very disappointing.

Yelp
Great food, great service! I go here all the time and have never been disappointed! If a mistake is made it is fixed right away and with a super kind attitude! The staff is so sweet and very hard working. :)

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go with the family when I am in the Roseville area. We love trying a variety of rolls that we can mix up..

Tiperia M.

Yelp
My favorite place for sushi recently visited the server seemed very incompetent to do her job forgot multiple things and had to ask multiple times. Came in for happy hour 45min prior and by the time we were seated it took her 20 mins to take our order and she said happy hour was over which was a huge disappointment and we could no longer order from the happy hour menu. The food is always fresh and delicious but the service we received was pretty upsetting
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
Not my favorite. I thought the service was lackluster and the food was just ok. The actual restaurant is beautiful and well thought out but I just felt so rushed and almost as if I annoyed the server with questions about what was in the rolls - having allergies is hard but it's usually never a problem for people. The udon noodles were fresh but the broth lacked flavor, the baked roll we had was pretty cold when we got it to the table. I was kinda over it by then but my hubby said the fresh roll was good. I really wanted to like this location as it is in such close proximity to our home however, Samurai isn't too far away and I think they will continue to be our go to favorite..

Brian Z.

Yelp
My wife and I came for our anniversary and we ordered 3 rolls. Let's just say they were all lacking flavor and freshness. Our salmon rolls were very fishy, had way too much crab salad, and they are so big that when you try to eat them, they completely fall apart. We wish they included some cucumber or cream cheese and a lot less crab salad. On top of the food not being good, the customer service was poor. Waitresses never checked in to see if everything was good and our order was messed up. We love sushi and this place was disappointing, we had high hopes but unfortunately I don't think we would come here again.

GG L.

Yelp
Great oyster! Great oyster! So yummy. Watching them cook in front of and flipping food. It lookscook in front of and flipping food. It looks small but fills you up.

Yelp
**Update** Came in today (10/12/23) and had a less than favorable experience.... I was really bummed because this place used to be my favorite spot.... but the last few visits have been incredibly underwhelming. Pro: The service has gotten mildly better. The young lady who helped us today was kind and patient. But servers were hard to find once food was delivered.... My mom received a teriyaki chicken lunch entree that was lukewarm at best... and what was returned to her was dry, jerky-like and haphazardly thrown about her plate. Con: My biggest complaint though, was that the place was really messy... there were crumbs all over the floor... tables not wiped and I believe that was the main reason I spent the entirety of our meal battling it out--swatting flies. Not a particular fan of sharing, especially with flies... Might have to give another thought before coming back here again....

Ti L.

Yelp
Coming back here to read all the rest of the reviews after leaving a negative one myself, and there are actually SO many complaints about the customer service here. Thought I was maybe being dramatic, WOW

Yelp
Placed an orders on 1/3/25 over the phone told the person who answered that we will be placing two separate orders. And would pay for them separately The first order was the lunch special two piece first one was Philadelphia roll and avocado roll and it was supposed to come with miso soup. The second order was Johnny roll. California roll and cucumber salad. They charged us all together for got the soup. And the Philly rolls taste not right. Did not end up eating the rest of them after eating one. The cucumber salad leaked all over the bag it was in! The California roll was tasty. As was the Johnny rolls. If we order from there again to go we will just walk in a place an order. To make sure everything is correct. As a different person picked up our order for us and thought that it was all correct as they tight the bags very tight closed. So could not look into them without ripping open the bags.

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
Love going here, we usually do the beef donburi, firefighter roll & the hot night roll. We've always had really good service, only thing i will say sometimes when we call in our order for pick up they will say 30 mins and we usually give it an extra 10-15mins. When we arrive to pick up a few times we'd have to wait an extra 20 mins. Of course no one's fault but we're always told "it'll be out in a minute"
google avatar

Ariana K.

Yelp
The service was good, we had a very patient and kind lady, however the food was interesting. The fish is not fresh at all and the rice tastes like it was made in a microwave. We also got a deepfried roll and the shrimp tempura was over fried, it was completely brown. The hot sake also did not even have a cover. The bathroom was also a complete mess. (Update:The person that ate the nigiri ended up getting food poisoning.)

Yelp
Came in on a Friday night and they were pretty busy as it was 5pm and dinner time. We already knew Walmart we wanted and so when I waitress arrived we gave her out order immediately. Our rolls came out really fast as we ordered 5. However the messed up on my sons Tonkastu and brought him out ramen tonkatsu. Thankful the young gentleman who brought our food put in the correct order because we didn't see our waitress but only 3 times, once when she took our order, then when we were almost done with our meal (& my son still hadn't received his order this was before we even discovered it was wrong) the last when I finally saw her walking by and just asked for the bill and to go boxes because I didn't know when I'd see her again. The food was AMAZING AS ALWAYS, but our service was terrible, but I didn't want to give lower stars on the account of our server. For the record we saw everyone else's servers and everyone else was beyond served and attended to but ours was completely MIA

Yelp
first I was charged $80+ from an ignorant employee who obviously wasn't paying attention whatsoever and charged my card for somebody else's meal PLUS my own. So In reality my card was charged a little over $130. Then finally I get to go on lunch just to see my sushi was fucking burnt?? Like why are you going to serve your customers BURNT food? I only ever this Dragon roll and never had any problems before this and extremely disappointed. Paid $130+ for food that wasn't mine and food that wasn't made correctly. Called in just now just for a middle man worker to have me on hold multiple times to talk to the manager back and forth. Why wasn't the manager handling the situation? Are they even doing their job? Sending out burnt food to regular paying customers. My only solution was to leave work to get a refund for the food I didn't eat or to leave my work so they can remake it? It wouldn't have to be remade if it was made correctly the first time. Now I have to waste my time going back again and wait another week for an incompetent workers mistake just to get my money back. GREAT SERVICE EVERYBODY

Yelp
I placed an order to go. When I called Alexis answered the phone & put me on hold. She thought she put me on mute but she was having a personal conversation with her co worker! I heard all of it! I placed my order & she had a hard time understanding my phone number. She must have still been into her convo. I went to pick up my order, I get home & my expensive spicy pork is missing my rice & salad! WTH! I am not to drive back! I call & speak with Christina or Christine. I ask to talk to the manager & of course he's not available. I left my information to get a call back. I hope they do.

Yelp
Came here with my girlfriend got the Dominic roll and crunch roll both were the worst rolls we've ever had both rolls were slimy and unsatisfying in the most imaginable way possible do not recommend those rolls helping people out one day at a time don't get those rolls!

Yelp
I'm always looking for a good Sushi place but they are few and far between in Salinas. I got take out here a while ago, but it didn't leave much of an impression. I had some time to kill one afternoon so I stopped in for lunch. Previous reviews cued me in to certain details, but I went in with an open mind. Unlike some reviewers I found the service pleasent, quick, and efficient, even during lunch rush. The miso soup that came with my lunch special was warm, norshing, and delicious - very umami-y. If I had stopped there Arigato would have gotten more stars but, alas. My lunch special came with a choice of three rolls from the special list and I chose Super Salmon, Philly Roll (I like Salmon), and Tekka Maki. I must, sadly, agree with other reviewers, I find it a problem when rolls are put together but don't stay together. The most discouraging thing I found was the rice. I'm told by my Japanese friends that the way you tell a Japanese restaurant's quality is by the rice; it should have a certain taste and texture. Arigato's rice was bland and didn't form a cohesive Sushi roll. I'm not sure that I will give them a third try, but it is better Sushi than you can get prepackaged.

Yelp
Best place in town. But the servers don't check in with you, takes an hour to take your order, and if u ask for extras or sides then expect it to get there in 5 business days.

Yelp
Service was wonderful. Sushi rolls ordered were delicious. Children teriyaki portion was pretty big. I had a couple issues. The silverware and cups are very much cafeteria. I mean, this is the only sushi establishment where I was served miso soup with a metal spoon. Additionally my daughter and I were served water in dirty cups. Luckily the waitress kindly gave us clean cups.

Yelp
Great food, good service, online ordering could be improved. Best overall Japanese restaurant in this area.

Yelp
Seating was quick and efficient. That's the best I can say about 9ur experience. We ordered appetizers some rolls, and entrees. About 15 min of waiting, my entree and side soups arrived and the server took off before we can ask about our apps. About 25 min later another server came by w other's entrees ... this time we stopped the server to ask about the apps. Waiting another 10 min, the brought the apps and sushi. So now our table was overburdened with food and dishes. The tempura app we got was delicious and freshly crisp. Granddaughter's Ramen soup was good. Other's entrees were good also. The sushi was horrible and overfill with soggy krab mayo mix.

Yelp
Appetizers, rolls, and mochi ice cream are my favorite from their menu. Their service is fair just depending on the day. Overall, it was a good experience I like the dim lighting and even at its busiest it doesn't feel too crowded when seated.

Yelp
I tend to go here 2-3 times a month. I'm a big fan of their chicken teriyaki, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is great. Customer service is good, and services are constantly checking up on you 3-5 times to ensure everything is going well.

Yelp
This place is always busy, so prepare to be wait. Chirashi Bowl over rice. Chef selection of assorted sashimi was good. Fresh fish and great dinner. Attentive service.
