Restaurateur Ari Gejdenson Says Minimum Wage Hikes May Force Him Out of D.C. | Eater DC

"As an all‑day eatery I get the most consistent support from neighborhood residents—most of the residential community tends to support the diner rather than the Mexican restaurant because they want Tex‑Mex—so it's been challenging trying to bring those locals to a different kind of place." - Lenore Adkins

You would not even know they were there if you don't look for the Cowboy on the fence and read the sign. They are on 104/ Frank Road. The service from entrance to the leaving was amazing. The yellow bottle is not mustard it is hot sauce.

Ari's Diner is our new favorite place! Absolutely adorable, affordable, and delicious. The atmosphere was everything - clearly filled with love and kindness (and so clean!!). This was the perfect comfort food mashup and amazing date spot <3

Google
First time eating here. Clean, reasonably priced. The Reuben was exactly what I had been craving. (They made it for me on wheat instead of rye). The French fries were hot, delicious, and phenomenal. Best fries around. *UPDATE* We got the BLT and a big breakfast platter. My father was flabbergasted by the amount of food that came with the breakfast. The BLT was absolutely loaded with enough toppings and meat. Once again they killed it with the Reuben and the fries were delicious.

We had so much fun visiting Ari’s Diner today and we can’t wait to come back. The food was good and the staff was great! It’s a fun spot.

Google
WOW! New favorite place…… The plate size was huge, and the price low. Friendly people, friendly environment. Some of the best food I’ve had in a very long time. This will be our number one go to breakfast place, I recommend highly.

Google
Took my girls here for brunch and it was really good. Food was good. We especially loved the fluffy potatoes. The place was really clean, our server was sweet, and the food was cook super fast. The only complaint I have is that it was absolutely freezing inside. Like, food is cold by the time it hits your table cold. The poor girls at the table next to us were literally shivering and begging for jackets lol

Ari's Diner 📍 Had breakfast with auntie and the food slaps! I got the cowboy 🤠 omelette. Unique atmosphere. Great service.

Yelp
We were looking for an early Saturday morning breakfast spot near our home and were shocked to find this place was less than a five minute drive away!! They have been in the same location for a very long time and it only took us 13 years of living in our home to find them. We headed over there right away and found a nice sized parking lot with a small unimpressive building. We headed in and were greeted immediately with a smile and instructions to sit wherever we wanted. The decor is pop culture from the 1950's with pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and James Dean on the walls, as well as newspaper articles of big events from back in the day. We ordered a typical breakfast of eggs, bacon, home fries and toast with our food coming out within 10 minutes. Delicious!!! The food was fresh, the eggs were cooked just the way we ordered them, the toast was buttered and warm, the home fries were crispy and the bacon was perfect! Our waitress was attentive and kept our coffee cups filled. We won't wait another 13 years to come back for more!

Yelp
The BLT with egg was good but a bit greasy. I should expect that with diner food. My daughter enjoyed her Philly Cheesesteak panini. The service was quick and on point. The diner had music playing and sports on the tvs. I will be back.

Yelp
The food is always yummy from Ari's. We have been here a few times and tried a few things off the menu and specials board without disappointment. Friendly service and nice atmosphere to enjoy breakfast or lunch.

Yelp
Fantastic!!!! Taylor is one of the nicest servers, the food was so good and the pricing unbelievable!!! Highly recommend!!!!

Yelp
Happy find this little gem of a diner! It's just a basic diner but has all the offerings plus some Greek twist! the pricing is extremely reasonable and the food all tasted delicious. Service was great and quick. Overall, this may become my new go to breakfast spot.

Yelp
Staff was so nice, i asked the waitress what she recommend the blueberry waffle or pancake she strongly suggested the waffle and I'm glad i went with her recommendation it was hands down the best waffle I've ever had! All the food we ordered was amazingly delicious!! The breakfast bowl so yummy and my husband loved his breakfast gyro! We would definitely recommend next visit to Columbus we will be dinning here! 5

Yelp
Apparently I have been here before, but for breakfast. Today we went for lunch and I ordered an Italian panini. It was just okay. Hubby ordered Cajun chicken gyro with onion rings. He thought the gyro didn't have much Cajun flavor but the onion rings were good. The service was good and the booths could use remodeling as many had rips in the cushions. If we go back, definitely would order breakfast.

Yelp
The service was fantastic. The food came out quickly and was delicious. Super affordable and my son cleared his plate and is a picky eater. Will for sure be back!

Keith J.

Yelp
I really loved this place. It's a diner that has been around quite a while and has retained its charm. The food is wonderful. Big portions and reasonable prices. The service was excellent. I will be back.

Matthew J.

Yelp
Amazing diner. I had the Cajun Chicken Panini. Best panini I've ever had, Christine is and gives great hospitality Amazing and welcoming service. give an old feel to the atmosphere and would recommend anyone who wants a good meal to come here.

Yelp
There was nothing special about Ari's today. None of the food was bad. It was just mostly meh. The sausage was premade patties - possibly cooked on site...maybe not? The eggs were the best part, my scrambled eggs were actually pretty good and cooked exactly as requested. If for some crazy reason I ordered scrambled eggs and nothing else, I would have walked out thinking that's a great place. The toast was dry and had little to no butter/margarine. The home fries looked great but the did not taste good. The restaurant was clean and the server was nice. I probably won't come back again. The prices on the ticket were slightly higher than the prices on the menu. They claimed it was an extra dine-in tax, but the sales tax was also added. I'm taking off a star for that - from 3 stars down to 2.

Yelp
Best diner I've ever been too. Small town feel with super friendly staff. Owner is amazing, there every time I've gone. Gyros are excellent, sausage gravy and biscuits are delicious , hubby had a cheeseburger and said it was the best he's had in a long time. Great soups and omelets. You can't go wrong here or they will fix it!! A must try!!!!

Amy H.

Yelp
Always a very good meal for a good price. The service is great and the portions are substantial. We have become regulars!

Adam I.

Yelp
Greatest diner around. You'll find the best food hands down! Don't miss out on the good Albanian breakfast options and amazing coffee.
google avatar

Hannah B.

Yelp
Ari's Diner is on Frank Rd on the southwest side of town. I immediately loved the vibe when we walked in. Locally owned, "regulars" coming in and being greeted by name, no frills and a large menu is what I noticed at first. During the meal my coffee cup never went empty (plus 1). I had the breakfast bowl: 2 eggs, gravy, biscuit, home fries, sausage and cheese and my husband had the pig omelet- ham, bacon, sausage and cheese. Both were dynamite and we were sad when our meal was over "let's eat this all again!!" The flavors were awesome & nice sized portions. The owner sat at the bar the whole time & made sure things were running smoothly.

Yelp
This was a combined Roadside America / Yelp experience. There's a giant cowboy sitting on a fence waving his hat, right out front. One of those photo ops that's worth a stop. So we came for the cowboy, followed by lunch at Ari's, which was a 5 star diner experience. Clean, bright, spacious establishment, Plenty of comfy booths plus a nice curved counter. Marilyn Monroe and James Dean decor, fun theme and not overdone. Obligatory Ohio Buckeye banner was also in sight. One unobtrusive tv overlooked the counter. Service was prompt, efficient, and cheerful. Menu was quite extensive, in a true diner fashion, including the 'anytime breakfast.' I had the Greek panini, $7 and practically a meal for two. Absolutely delicious, gyro meat and trimmings on pressed ciabatta bread. Like a warm wondrous union of Greek and Italian; and the accompanying cucumber yogurt sauce was out of this world. I slathered it liberally, and it was cheerfully replenished at no extra charge. My husband had the House salad with gyro meat. Also a generous portion which he devoured and had only good things to say about it. No public wifi, alas, but that's getting to be MY problem, so no stars lost. Breakfast special listed on the chalk board was eggs, home fries, and choice of ..... Are you ready? Italian sausage or mortadella! Momma! If i lived nearby I would be here often.

Yelp
Awesome Family run Diner food and portions are excellent employees are very accommodating and I will visit again quick in and out service not bad for home cooked meals thanks folks you rock

Yelp
Bargain shoppers - this is your spot! There are fewer and fewer of these kinds of restaurants now; where you can find a solid, affordable meal that is well-prepared but not overly fancy. Sometimes you want to go out for some kind of ethnic-fusion-locally-sourced-bourgeoisie brunch, and other times you just want a stack of giant fluffy diner pancakes for $5. There is room in this world (and city) for both, so I am so glad this place exists. My husband had a breakfast platter with eggs, sausage, home fries, and toast, and I had two eggs and two buttery pancakes the size of hubcaps. Oh, and we each had a hot beverage... and our bill was $16. The service was friendly but didn't hover too much, and our meals came out pretty quickly. The ambiance here is nothing special, but the space is quite large and can accommodate bigger groups. They have a big parking lot, and an old school cowboy statue out front that makes me think this used to be a used car lot back in the day. If anything, my only complaint is that the coffee refills were a little slow, but I definitely had enough overall. Lots of families and older folks dining, and it reminded me of a restaurant I used to visit with my grandparents. It's nice to see people who are obviously regulars, and the staff greets them as such. For an affordable meal where you'll truly feel like family, this is your spot.

Yelp
Just found Ari's for breakfast and food is great with outstanding service. Love the coffee and the upbeat vibes. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Looks like the area's favorite breakfast joint, place was packed. Interesting menu, some Greek breakfast items even. I had the big breakfast, and it was very good, perfect bacon. Service was slow as they were very busy, seemed to be having issues getting food out to tables that arrived before us, and the coffee was nothing special, but in an area full of chains with few independent restaurants, it would still be my first choice for breakfast. There were some oddities here, not sure pictures do it justice. In the middle of the place there was a long counter that was about kindergarten height. Got quite a chuckle out of watching tall men take seats there. Behind the counter was a little stereo, boom box style. Kept wondering what they intended to do behind that counter, perhaps karaoke for little people? When I asked the waitress what was up with the counter seating, she said the place used to be a bar. Ok, still scratching my head at the height and painfully empty white wall in front of it, but patrons did not seem to mind.

Yelp
A great place to go for Saturday or Sunday breakfast or brunch. This morning, I ordered the belgian waffle with a side of crispy bacon. The belgian waffle is only available on the weekends, but it is well worth the wait. The waffle, aside from its size, was very soft and fluffy and tasty, especially with the melted butter. The bacon is always just as I order, usually extra crispy. It is so crispy that it falls apart. The syrup is warm when they bring it out so that you do not have to pour cold syrup over a warm waffle, a very nice touch.

Yelp
Ari's Diner is a solid choice for a traditional breakfast or lunch. It's a neighborhood restaurant, and obviously popular with the locals - it's super busy! [Note: if you're on a tight timeline, wait until you're not in a rush to come here.] The decor is simple, with city prints on the walls, local news kudos, etc. Those brown diner tables and chairs? Yep! Bring your parents, bring the kids, they'll feel comfortable here. The staff are busy, but friendly and attentive (you'll need to ask for refills or extras, but they'll get them to you pronto). The owner is also out and about and has no problem directing traffic - and good thing, as this is a "Please Seat Yourself" setup. Everyone was happy to wait their turn for a table, and not chaotic. We showed up at the right time on Father's Day, and managed to score a table for nine. Hot coffee, cold OJ, and BIG pancakes. Half of our party was drooling before we sat down. The menu is classic Greek diner - those pancakes, gyro-meat options for omelets, burgers, and paninis. Soups and salads, and a good selection of side dishes. They serve breakfast all day...and did I mention that it is SO value-priced? We're talking $7.50 for breakfast, and $8-9 for a full lunch plate! Four adults = $33. Three kids, two adults = $33. The food is good, in addition to being a great value. Pancakes are fluffy standards, and yes, they are big! French toast is regular white bread, thin and ready for all the syrup an 8-year-old boy can load on them. I had a greek veggie omelet, which was good - not too fluffy, with small chunks of veg. They serve spicy sausage patties, too. The two-year-old plowed through his kid's meal (scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, and toast!) like a crazy man - high praise, methinks. It's pay at the register, and that means waiting until someone is free to ring you out (they do take credit cards). The staff here wear dri-fit shirts with their names on them for a reason...but they are all smiles and friendly helpfulness to the last. Great spot for a good breakfast, and worth the little trip down south side.

Yelp
Aris diner is very good and has very nice biscuit bowl I would come back but they made the price a bit more expensive so price wise is ok and food is awesome will be back!

Yelp
We found this place because our favorite waitress at our "regular" Sunday brunch spot left and came here. The food here was wonderful and the service was great. The portions here are huge and very tasty as well. Plenty of seating and the food came out very quickly so we were in and out quickly. We will be back for sure !

Yelp
BEST. DINER. EVER. Small, unassuming eatery in the outskirts of Columbus and surrounded by industrial businesses, this little diner serves some of the best food I've ever had. The rib eye was cooked to perfection with a charbroiled, smoky flavor and fresh farm eggs. The house potatoes were a little bland (which I appreciate that I can flavor to my own taste), but nothing that a little Frank's Red Hot didn't fix. I'm convinced that the sweet tea was brewed with roses because of its floral notes and flavor. All this and a friendly server to boot for the low, low price of $10.58. Ari's Diner, I will be back!
google avatar

Mel T.

Yelp
Well I've have been here before the food is good but not to many ways to screw up an egg. Today went in with my son and was treated like I was an inconvenience to them. The guy was very rude and inconsiderate. There were several tables available but he would rather turn away a cash paying customer because he was waiting a a large group of "no shows"! Sitting a chair and end of table blocks the isle in a already small establishment.
google avatar

Tanya V.

Yelp
Disappointed to say the least as we love small diners. After sitting down, we waited 10 minutes before even being acknowledged, nope they were not busy. The coffee is that nasty machine stuff that you get for free at casinos. Once we finally got our food- don't be in a hurry -the steak had more fat than meat and cold potatoes. The eggs were cooked good though and the polish sausage was very good. Very inexpensive, so the prices are good. Sorry, I won't be back.

Yelp
The shine of excitement over finding a new breakfast place has worn off. Our first visit was great. New to us. Spacious, private parking lot, breakfast all day, friendly staff, good menu, good food, and the owner offering us a piece of free baklava as a greeting. The second visit was a quick lunch bite at the counter of a couple sandwiches that were as promised, but no wow factor. Our third was a Saturday about 11am for breakfast again. Same friendly service, and spacious enough we did not have to wait. I got the gyro omelette that my wife raved about last time. Maybe it's because of the recent 5 gyro visits last month, but I was not wowed. I actually had to ask the server if the vegetables(onion, peppers, tomato) were sautéed before adding. Nope. But they did it for me. I will never understand why kitchens want to pair cold items together with something hot. Example- Here's your ribs with a side of pre-portioned bbq sauce from the fridge. The home fries are sliced potato that is skillet or flat top fried with oil. I like those crispy pieces, but is was a bit oily tasting, and warm not hot. This is usually the result of breakfast places that have a pile of spuds warming on the griddle top. A small pan over a flame with some seasoning would go a long way. The toast was average. They threw me off by cutting dry toast diagonally. For those who don't know, it's usually identified by cut in half, like 2 rectangles. I did not have the coffee this visit. My previous breakfast visit notes tell of hot coffee that I am not enough of a connisseur to review. No grounds in the bottom of the mug. Once we established refills were needed, I never had to ask again. We found the gravy acceptable, but not a top 5 in Columbus. The pork chops(which were still this days special) are of the thin cut, quick grill variety. It was a surprise that they were able to maintain some moisture in each bite. Most places kill 'em. The prices were OK with most others. They are not trying to lowball the price and quality, nor think so much of everything to price you away. I think most visits are going to be over $10 if you get a menu item and a drink. This place has an unused patio. I mean unusable. Weeds and storage. I don't know what the permit, or demand for a patio in the area is. I have never smelled the water treatment plant on any visit, but maybe the wind has been on my side. There is free wifi available with their password. It's a place I know I can get breakfast if I'm in the area, but the excursion meal is unwarranted.

Ed B.

Yelp
Try this diner you will NOT be disappointed!! Great friendly atmosphere Good prices, large portions and quick service. The polish sausage breakfast is GREAT! Ed & Debbie Bishop Grove city

Olivia F.

Yelp
The waitress got my order wrong and then gave me attitude with dirty looks and rarely talking to us for the rest of the time when I asked for it to be corrected. Food could easily be cooked at home, nothing special at all especially with awful service.
google avatar

Charles W.

Yelp
This is one of the best breakfast and lunch diners around these parts. I have always had great food and good service here. It's a good atmosphere and they don't rush you to leave either
google avatar

Sompong P.

Yelp
Friendly staff although our server kind of forgot about us and pawnes us off to another waitress seem like. It took awhile for the first server to take our drink orders.. let alone our meal orders. Other than that food was great. Very unique breakfast spot. It was mother's day so a little pn the busy side at the hour we went. Evrything we ordered tasted good though.
google avatar

Dawn M.

Yelp
Good solid choice for breakfast. Plates are very reasonably priced for the portion size. Pancakes fill the entire plate. Breakfast gyro was a nice twist. No, it isn't fancy. However, the waitresses are friendly. Plenty of locals here, which is always a good sign.

Yelp
Bang for your buck: 7.5/10 Quality: 7.5/10 Service: 8/10 Ambiance/Location: 8/10 Overall: 7.5/10

Yelp
It's nestled in quietly off the road but can't be missed as it sits behind the iconic cowboy on the wooden rail. The menu has an extensive list of breakfast, brunch and lunch items. Home cooking with a Mediterranean flair is what makes this place special. Once you get in there the food will keep you there but so will the fact that most every emergency egress door and there is also blocked.
google avatar

Erin T.

Yelp
Great food! Great people! Great prices! Ari and staff are really nice and they treat you like part of the family. He will accomodate any twists and turns you request with your order.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
We decided to stop in and check out this local venue. Never in my life have I ever been so disrespected. 20 minutes this hufferfish who looked like she was getting off a high, walked by us multiple times then looks right at us, and decides to walk away while we waited to order. Tables around us had their food order before we even had our teas. Couldn't wait any longer. Never again!
google avatar

Eric W.

Yelp
We decided to check Ari's out, as an alternative to the "chain" restaurants and saw their ad in a weekly flyer. Although, we're not far, we've never been. It was exactly what we were looking for. We loved it. I wanted breakfast while my wife and daughter wanted lunch. They start serving lunch at 11am so it worked out perfectly with when we went. My wife got the gyro and it was one of the best I've tasted in central Ohio, and she equally loved it. The meat was plentiful and cut off the spit. The accompanying fries were good too. My 8 year old got the chicken 'strips/tenders' and were very good. She couldn't finish them all and usually she has no problem. Prices were reasonable and quantities are good. Oh, my "Pig Omelette" (3 eggs, bacon, ham, sausage and 2 cheeses) was very good too. It wasn't a fluffy type omelette and was actually flat, but the flavors were all there, and the accompanying home fries are definitely 'homemade' and were very good. I can't wait to go back to try something else, and I am recommending to all my friends and to all who read this. Last but not least, the service was GREAT. Our server said she'd worked there 5 of the 9 years they've been open and you can tell. Friendly, and answered all our questions. Great job Ashley! Thank you and hope you all enjoy like we did.
google avatar

Jeanette H.

Yelp
We love this place for breakfast...but coffee is a little weak. I think some menu items are better than others. I almost always get the number five with a pancake. Service is friendly. Just wish they stayed open a little longer!!
google avatar

Stan T.

Yelp
Not a bad little place. Had the Reuben it was good. The onion rings could have a little crisper. Friendly staff
google avatar

Tina H.

Yelp
It's a decent place to get food and their breakfast is definitely better than lunch and dinner items. The service is typically lacking but not bad as a whole. I will go here every so often as they are reasonably priced.
google avatar

Andi M.

Yelp
We had heard good things about this place so we decided to give it a try. We were extremely disappointed. Their sign advertised hamburgers and gyros so we ordered those. If you're going to advertise on your sign, it should be good. The hamburger was previously frozen, not a good and fresh diner burger. It was grey and tasteless. Not much different from the mystery meat that we used to get in the school cafeteria. As for the gyro, the sauce was good but I'm guessing it came from a jar. The meat, you could tell was previously frozen and wasn't good. Our onion rings were decent but for $2.50 per order, we should have gotten more than 4 on our plate. We just figured since everything else was frozen, they probably ran out and just stuck what was left on our plate. We expected better. We will not be returning.....

Ryan M.

Yelp
yelp folks must have low food expectations. I tried it hoping for something along the lines of Dan's or Tommy's. Nope. Lunch isn't until 11am. I was hoping for biscuits and gravy and it wasn't on the menu. The waitress did not mention a specials menu, so I ordered pancakes. They were the worst pancakes, the syrup didn't fix them. The toast was barely done. The bacon was like Waffle House and the sausage patties were like McDonald's.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Exactly what we wanted when we went for diner breakfast. Friendly staff. Excellent food. The gyro meat and French toast were outstanding!
google avatar

Paul V.

Yelp
Really a nice little place. The prices weren't bad. The servers were friendly and the food was good. They told me that they had just remodeled

Yelp
Great food. Fantastic value. Very cool waitress. We travel all over the country and Ari's spoiled us. Whenever we eat at a diner, we look at each other and say" Not Ari's". Perfect diner vibe with great food and a ton of it!!! Can't wait to get back to Columbus.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Ari's Diner is stocked with a variety of menu choices, very friendly and personable staff, and delicious food at a great price. The establishment stands out amidst chain-restaurants as a friendly, local, quick-serving eatery with XL pancakes that are big enough for two!

Allicia T.

Yelp
We loved our breakfast/brunch we had here before driving back to Erie. The food was fantastic! I enjoyed the homemade fries with sauteed onions. The over medium eggs were fresh - you could tell from the quality and the color of the yolk, and done perfectly. My daughter could not have enough of sausages. Our meals were cooked to perfection with a lot of attention to details. A place to go back to when we travel to Columbus! Thank you!

John R.

Yelp
Me and my buddies had the worst experience here 2 weeks ago. Once we got in the place we couldn't tell who our waitress was as they apparently are not required to wear uniforms. Service was good however. But our food took way longer than I expected. My chicken panini lacked some seasoning. Fries were a bit.undercooked too much seasoning. I am not sure who the guy that was walking around the dining room is but he never stopped by our table to ask about our food. We are not in the area a lot but we won't be back.
