Ariyasomvilla

"So, what's the story behind this place?Built in 1942 by the family that designed Bangkok’s National Stadium two years earlier, AriyasomVilla was formerly a private home. Cool. Can you orient us a little bit? What's the neighborhood like?Wattana is known for its shopping and dining; from the affordable and fun Terminal 21 mall to the glitzy, designer haven of EmQuartier. Along the district's best known street—Sukhumvit 55—you'll find the city's most lauded cocktail bars and a heavy collection of worthy Japanese restaurants. Perfect; so there's plenty to do around here. Tell us what we missed, or a tidbit that made your staff that much better. The Executive Suites feature full living rooms, gauze curtains on four-poster beds, gilded mirrors, and vintage rugs. The property also boasts a spa, a sparkling swimming pool, and organic, vegetable-heavy cuisine." - Jenny Adams

Ariyasom Villas | Best places to stay in Bangkok

"This elegant boutique hotel in a 1940s house is one of Bangkok’s loveliest places to stay. Located in luxuriant tropical gardens at the end of a lane, combining old-world style with modern amenities, there’s nothing else like it. The property was built as a home during World War II by Khun Phra Chareon, Thailand’s father of modern engineering. His granddaughter and her English husband, the current owners, have remodelled the house into a stylish hotel with individually designed rooms. The location for sightseeing is excellent – the BTS is nearby. It’s also very close to the heart of Sukhumvit’s shopping. After exhausting hours on the streets, return to enjoy a steam Thai massage, soak in the jacuzzi at the hotel’s Som Sen Spa, or participate in a silent meditation retreat with a Thai monk (arrange in advance). We stayed at Ariyasom Villa, a peaceful and comfortable boutique hotel There's a soft floral scent from the many trees and blossoms around the hotel. It made the whole place feel calm and welcoming. Our room was cozy with an antique four-poster bed and a spacious bathroom. We enjoyed a nice soak in the bathtub after spending the whole day exploring the city. We spent a lot of time by the pool relaxing. It was so peaceful and green that we completely forgot we were in the middle of the city. The staff was so kind, always smiling, and genuinely helpful. They made us feel at home from the moment we arrived, and their warmth was a big part of what made the stay so memorable. Ariyasom Villa is the kind of place that makes you slow down, relax, and enjoy the unique mix of history, Thai charm, and heartfelt hospitality. Truly unforgettable!

Ariyasom certainly has a charm that comes from its history and atmosphere. However, that charm is overshadowed by serious issues that make it difficult to justify the price for what is presented as a four-star hotel. I came here because the vegetarian breakfast was said to be well known, but the reality was far below expectations. The food was plain and uninspired, with no sense of reinterpreting traditional Thai vegetarian cuisine. There were not even proper vegan options, which feels out of step with today’s standards. The bigger problem was the facilities. The beautiful Thai antiques and oriental décor did create brief moments of escape, but the reality behind them was disappointing. Rusty water came out of the taps, and at night the electricity went out, shutting down the air conditioning. I woke up hot and restless, only to realize that my phone and power bank hadn’t charged. For a hotel that positions itself as four stars, such things are simply unacceptable. I also had a Thai massage on the outdoor terrace, but for the entire 60 minutes I had to endure city noise and the smell of food drifting from the neighboring building. In such an open space, the experience was far from relaxing and honestly very disappointing. The staff were kind, and their warmth did ease the disappointment to some extent. Still, outdated facilities, an underwhelming breakfast, and an unsatisfying massage experience cannot be covered up by friendliness alone. Moreover, the quality of hospitality varied from person to person, which made the experience feel inconsistent. Breakfast, massage, and even the spaces themselves offered no real “wow” factor. The hotel seems to lack self-awareness, and while the human warmth of the staff is deeply appreciated, it cannot compensate for all of these shortcomings. That said, I truly appreciated the hospitality of the staff who stored my luggage after checkout and looked after me attentively throughout breakfast. Those moments of care were memorable and will not be forgotten. Ariyasom seems stuck in the glory of awards won more than a decade ago, rather than moving with the spirit of the present. Without real investment and innovation, it is difficult to recommend this place. If you are looking to experience an old Thai vibe, it may be worth a visit. But for those expecting modern comfort and reliable quality from a four-star hotel, I cannot recommend it.

We stayed here for one night and paid for an additional night so we could keep a room during the day before our late flight. Unfortunately, our first night’s room was on the ground floor and had a strong smell of mould and damp. It was also very dark, with no natural light, and the small patio looked directly onto a wall at the back of the property. In contrast, our friends had a fantastic room on one of the upper floors, and the following day—when we kept a room until our flight—we were given a charming room overlooking the pool area. The entire hotel feels like something out of a history book, with its grand architecture and the character of a truly spectacular villa. The pool area is like a hidden oasis—quiet, lush, and serene, more like a secluded resort than a city hotel. The Thai massage in the spa villa was a highlight; you can choose between indoor or outdoor settings. I opted for the outdoor massage on the top floor of the villa, with a soft breeze, the sound of birds, and the city feeling miles away. The restaurant was another gem. Genuine Thai food, beautifully prepared and served in the grand dining room with soaring windows (as in the photos). A meal here feels like stepping back into another era, surrounded by elegance and calm.

My recent stay at the Ariyasomvilla Villa in Bangkok was an absolute delight. This charming boutique hotel is a hidden gem, tucked away at the end of a quiet street, yet right in the heart of the bustling city. My room was a sanctuary of elegance, featuring beautiful hardwood floors and exquisite furniture that created a warm and inviting atmosphere. What truly made the experience exceptional, however, was the staff. They were all incredibly kind and friendly, making me feel so welcome. A highlight was getting to chat with the owner, David, who was a joy to be around and full of fantastic stories about Bangkok over the years. I can't recommend this place enough.

Amazing stay in a boutique hotel in the heart of Bangkok. Perfect location, peaceful with lovely landscaping. Very attentive and friendly staff. Very unique as fully vegetarian and pescatarian. Owner is very personable getting to know and engage with all the guests. Highly recommend!

Incredible stay at this beautiful hotel. It’s a little pocket of tranquility with beautiful greenery and the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Staff are attentive and friendly. A very personable experience and pleasant owner who came over the check on us every day. Restaurant food is all vegetarian and pescatarian with a huge amount of choice for all tastes. Food was prepared to perfection. Couldn’t recommend this place more.

Pros and Cons to this boutique hotel. Mostly I am very confused how it has five stars. It is nice enough. It is an oasis coming in from the noise and busyness of Bangkok. Set at the end of an ally against the canal. The pool is lovely. However, it is tired, cluttered and dirty. I can see at one time it was a beautiful place but it needs some professional TLC. A good pressure washing all over, attention to the inside plants, update the decor and a hard scrub in the shower would be a start. Change out the ripped, stained curtains and clean the walls. Easy things that once attended to would easily earn the five stars it has on Trip Advisor.

Such a beautiful hotel, that feels like an escape from the chaos and noise of Bangkok. Down the end of a long street away from the main area which was good for peace but just had to walk a little bit further to get to the main area with restaurants and bars. An older style hotel with really lovely rooms clean and tidy and cool. Pool was so lovely and food at the restaurant was really delicious. Owner of the hotel David was so friendly and lovely to talk to. Very knowledgeable about the local area in Thailand in general. Would recommend for people who like a more boutique hotel in the main area but still a little bit away from the busyness
