I came in a little over 30 minutes before closing. I understand the want to hurry and get home as I have worked in restaurants for years but what I wanted was so simple and what I got was so complicated. I asked for a 1/2 order of asada fries, no asada, with chicken on the side. Not only was I almost charged $20 for an $11 order - the chicken wasn’t on the side. I kept asking if it was on the side, kept saying I don’t eat meat. They remade it - even the manager came to talk to me to make sure I got what I wanted. Got home & pulled lots of chunks of chicken off of the order 🥲. The picture only shows some of what I pulled off. But because of the chicken juice, even after getting as much off as possible, every bite tastes like chicken. When someone says they have a dietary restriction it is a lot more sensible to remake the messed up order instead of just pulling the restriction off. The lady threw the order on the counter and before I could say thank you she was already in the back of the restaurant. Alfredo’s is always better than Armando’s but this was definitely the last straw. $13 wasted on a meal I can’t eat.

Super authentic food, free corn chips. Great prices. Heaps of seating inside

Google
Menudo was loaded, with great taste, and comes in a large bowl 🥣. It seems to be available every day, unlike other places that only have it on weekends. Affordable prices, large servings, and a decent selection of Mexican items. If you're dining in, there are free chips and an assortment of sauces. Give em a try.

Google
This place is pretty great. Home cooked Mexican. Lots of different options. All of them great. This place has a drive thru. There is also a good size parking lot. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Good stuff.

Google
I ordered three tacos and you get chips and salsa free. Some of the best darn tacos I’ve eaten in years! Service was prompt. Just a casual little place. So glad I took the extra ten minutes to come here.

Google
I got a carne asada burrito and an order of street tacos. They tasted so good that I went back again the next day! The burrito was juicy and well cooked. Good size too, definitely worth it. This was my first time having street tacos and they were amazing! You get 5 in an order, which is great. I'm not a fan of corn tortillas, but I'd definitely eat these any day. Also, a squeeze of lime is just *chef kiss* The service was fast and the last working the register was accommodating and very nice. I highly recommend this place for great food. They also have a salsa bar~

Google
Well when i intially walked in she asked if i could hold on she served someones food and then walked off so i stood there waiting another 2 minutes she comes back from the back and continued to do other things tending to salsa and drinks i got tired of waiting food is sub par everything else about them is garbage wont be going back theres other places that serve the same items as them with better service and food quality

Google
A hidden gem in Abilene. While Armando's has been here for a little while this was our first visit. WOW! Generous portions and everything tasted great. This is not a fancy high end restaurant but rather a good, clean and comfortable restaurant to enjoy great Mexican food and time with friends and family. I had the 5 street tacos and my wife had the #4 which was a tostada and an enchilada. Great lunch and I am looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
My coworker and have food from today for lunch. I had the California burrito and my co worker had a quesadilla. We also ordered lemonades and they forgot to us straws.

Yelp
Fast friendly service. You can order buffet which many apparently do, or off the menu board which is what we did. Food took maybe 10 Minutes? Served hot and everything was fresh tasting. Interior is well worn and let's say quaint. Nonetheless it just added to the experience. Glad we stopped in , looks to be a place lots of families and workers go for lunch.

Audra B.

Yelp
The carne asada burrito was absolutely wonderful! Great service and easy drive through! Would highly recommend!

Yelp
The Good I tried their shrimp cocktail, and it was delicious. I had the large portion, and it came with plenty of shrimp, full of flavor and ingredients. I have zero complaints about their food. The people at Armando's are friendly and attentive. The Bad I have tried their street tacos before, and those are fine. This review is only about their shrimp cocktail (Coctel de Camaron). The Ugly The place is falling apart, and it looks terrible from the outside. Then you enter the little shack and realize it looks the same inside.

Yelp
The street tacos are a must! Would skip the rice and beans. The drinks to include horchata and melon juice were so good. Our total came to $42 for 5 street tacos plate +melon juice and 5 street tacos, rice and beans plus horchata. It felt a bit pricy but it's about $20 a person for a meal. Customer service was good and plenty of space to sit and enjoy an authentic meal.
google avatar

Jaydon A.

Yelp
Food is delicious and well priced. The portions are big ,prepared very fast and there's also tons of room to sit on the inside. They also have horchata so automatic 5 stars for that

Selena C.

Yelp
Ordered at drive thru window (speaker doesn't work) service was fast. The horchata was tasty! Got the barbacoa street tacos and they were good we did go an hour before closing and meat was a bit dry but still enjoyed. Their green salsa was amazing. Would definitely go again!
google avatar

George Q.

Yelp
Once again had to get my street taco fix. After trying several other Mexican restaurants, this is absolutely the best street tacos in Abilene. I always order the asada street tacos, so good!

Ramon D.

Yelp
Great food, looks and feels like south texas, service could use a little work, but other than that one of the best mexican restaurants in abilene

Journey M.

Yelp
10/10 the best authentic food in Abilene, originally i'm from fort worth and could not find good authentic mexican food besides here. Tacos were so good and fresh. The meat was very high quality, we got our food super quick and really good customer service.

Yelp
We went to eat today's and thought we would try this place we love Mexican food we went out n and ordered the street tacos steak and they were so good. And my husband got the chicken fajitas and they were sizzling coming out they were so good cooked just right. So we said when we left we would be back there. The food was great I would recommend them to anyone.
google avatar

JoAnna F.

Yelp
So I wanted to give this place 5 stars because the fresas con crema was really good, but for a small Dixie cup it was $8. In California you would pay $8 for a much bigger cup of that. So I did feel a little ripped off when I bought 3, perhaps I should've asked how much they were before jumping the gun to order them. The taquitos honestly tasted like the frozen ones that one would buy in the freezer isle at any grocery store. The upkeep inside wasn't the best. I expected much better for a hole in the wall. At least I can say that I gave it a try, but I won't be back

Yelp
My husband and I are just passing through Abilene and we are absolutely thrilled that we stopped here for our dinner . The food is excellent, the service is great and the prices are reasonable . The restarting is nicely decorated and very clean. We love Armandos!
google avatar

Jake H.

Yelp
Armando's is an authentic Mexican place in Abilene with great food and cheap prices. The five street tacos was about 7 bucks. I also got a churro and horchata and am so glad I stopped here on my way home. Go here!
google avatar

Carol B.

Yelp
I love to go there on Sundays for the buffet, I've never gotten any bad food from there. So delicious and refreshing.

Yelp
Had the Street Tacos. Delicious! They were busy, but always very kind! One night I called an order in (found out it was just before closing) and they stayed open a few extra minutes so I was able to pick it up!! Food is great and the customer service goes above and beyond! EDIT: IN REVIEW OF the review below mine stating she's from California and could get the same thing twice the size at half the price; I also am from So. Cal./Az. There is a family ran 'authentic' Mexican food place on every corner back home. Their competition is higher, and they all stay busy, so the revenue they're generating to stay open and support their families in the different markets needs to be taken into consideration BEFORE posting a poor review and ignoring the perspective of your location, demographics, competition, the need to be able to stay open etc. In Abilene, the Mexican food places are fewer and far between. WITH THAT SAID, the prices are NOT horrible. The food is great. I was back home last summer and the same burritos were on average $1.00-$1.75 cheaper than here in Abilene.

Yelp
Still single-handedly the BEST mexican food in town. Street Tacos are as good as the taco truck's that roam the streets of Los Angeles. Carne Asada fries are a family favorite. I make it a point to visit every few weeks.
google avatar

Riana P.

Yelp
Probably the dirtiest restaurant I've ever been to. The restroom was filthy, the toilet seat was broken, bugs crawling on the floor and no way to dry your hands. Imagine, this is what the staff uses as well. The vents were coated in dust, ceiling fans covered in dust- I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like if this is the place they WANT us to see. The food really was decent, but hard to enjoy in such a dirty atmosphere. I was afraid we would all get food poisoning honestly.
google avatar

Helayna W.

Yelp
I have gotten their street tacos too many times for me to remember. Every time they come out bussin'. 10/10 street tacos can be found here. Also I love that they have a self serve bar with all you can eat pickled carrots/jalapeños and chips with salsa. The staff are friendly. You don't have worry about attire as everyone is here to get some tasty food.

Yelp
We're from out of town, heard good things about this place but was very disappointed. The food was not good, not very many options, very cheaply made. Menudo tastes dirty. You're probably better off ordering off the menu. Buffet is way too expensive for such low quality food. Reviews are very deceiving. The best part was probably the canned cheese nachos we made.
google avatar

Kathy W.

Yelp
Well we tried this place, probably won't be back best thing about it was their salsa you can tell it is homemade and has cilantro and onion in it! We had the buffet, I give it a 1, the cheese on it is basically water, and enchiladas barely have any cheese and only cheese enchiladas on buffet! The pica dilla meat was basically unseasoned hamburger with barely cooked unseasoned potatoes! There was one thing on he buffet that was delicious and it was some type if pork roast in bright red sauce placed over rice was very good! I also ordered a couple of pastor street tacos were mediocre at best! I would not recommend as a place to go. I'm still on the search for Mexican food in Abilene, I have not found it yet!

Yelp
I was craving some tacos but I was not trying to spend 4$ for a taco. That doesn't seem like a very "good" taco to me and I wanted street tacos. Thankfully Yelp comes to the rescue. I called placed my order, I did the street tacos 3 carnitas and 2 barbacoa and a medium horchata. Now I'm super picky about horchata and very judgmental about it and it was delicious. It reminded me of back home in California. SO YUMMY. I had the tacos the carnitas was great! The barbacoa to me was a bit too greasy. The hot sauce they use it not too spicy it's perfect. I definitely will come back here :)

Darius P.

Yelp
Over priced food for not even tasting good-price-gouging at its finest two plates for thirty dollars will not go back
google avatar

Diana D.

Yelp
Place was sticky, mildew smell, dirty tables, chips were stale and there was really nothing special flavor wise in the meat. The refried beans had a burned taste and smell. For street tacos which is what other yelpers say taste good I would recommend the local food trucks instead of here.
google avatar

Yelp
I finally came by on a Sunday morning since I was super hungry for a good breakfast burrito and not many good places are open at that time and I was not disappointed! The burritos are HUGE and so delicious. The cheese quesadilla was also a hit with my kids. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
My rating is based only on the quality of the food. I went here on Sunday for the buffet. The food was absolutely outstanding! Inside, the place isn't exactly impressive though it's clean and well kept. On the buffet, since I recognized few of the items, I tried a little bit of everything. That's definitely the right thing to do! It was all very good, and even though it was late in the afternoon, the food was flavorful and quite authentic! I will definitely return, if given the opportunity.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the 5 street taco plate. Incredible quality and authenticity for the price! My family is Mexican and these tacos are very authentic! Fresh, well seasoned meats (asada and al pastor). Fresh "aguas" and juices. 5/5 stars! Best Mexican food in Abilene!!!

Martin M.

Yelp
I'm back to tell you that Armando's still has kickin' menudo. I returned from L.A. to visit my mother and brought her here for the Saturday brunch. The menudo has tender tripe cut into small pieces for easy chewing. Pozole is very tasty as well. Washed it all down with some sweet tea, now we're talking! The other Yelpers are right when they say the place is humble, but the food and prices are great. That's a winning combo for me.

Bambie C.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food. Makes me think about my families home cooking. The asado, beans, and rice are my favorite!

Babitat 7.

Yelp
Some dishes are average and others are not very good in my opinion but the real annoying thing is their janky drive through
google avatar

Troy B.

Yelp
Love the food and the fact that it is in the original Taco Bueno restaurant building. I really like that they have free verde / green salsa on the chip bar. Fast service and friendly.

Yelp
I must update my review to 4.5 stars. We recently found out they have a Sunday buffet. Off we went. This is not Tex Mex, it's real Mexican food, and we loved it. Because I'm a dumb, white, gringo, I had to ask what everything was. And what I found was food heaven! I often say I'm tired of American food because it's what I've had all my life. Getting to try different foods from around the world has saved my sanity and my bored stomach. I got to try chicken in a mole sauce, picadillo, short ribs and cactus, and green chili chicken. All were fantastic. But my favorite was pork with corn and poblano peppers in some kind of sauce that was just awesome. I went back for seconds of this and decided, let's try menudo! While I did like the menudo, something in it has a really strange taste, so we'll see next time. There were other things I did not get to try, so going back is a must. I'm sure not everyone will like this because we all have different tastes, but Glenda and I will definitely go back. If your the adventuresome type, come try it. You won't regret!

Yelp
Salt salt salt and more salt. If you love salt this is the place. If not go to the majority of the other restaurants in town. Won't be back

Yelp
Stopped in around 2:30 pm. I hadn't realized it was a "order at the counter and serve yourself chips " kind of place, but we were there so stayed. Chips were stale and there was hardly any red salsa left. Most of the tables needed to be bussed; looks like they hadn't cleaned up from the lunch crowd. Our orders were served on an actual plate (albeit a melamine one) with actual flatware (not plastic) so that was a definite win. Food was meh. Decent enough for us to eat because we're hungry, but certainly won't plan on ever returning. Woman at the counter was friendly and the cook got our food to us quickly.

Yelp
Amazing food! Service is limited, but that's the nature of their business. - no issues at all. Save your money and enjoy an authentic meal. Done!

Holly M.

Yelp
Loved eating there it's the perfect combination of self service and customer service.
google avatar

Glenda H.

Yelp
Wow what an excellent authentic Mexican buffet. No tacos here. Green chili's and chicken, ribs and cactus, all different kinds of tasty choices!
google avatar

Joel D.

Yelp
Excellent true Mexican food. Menudo is not too spicy, and massive portions. Nice buffet with a little of.everything. street taco plate is awesome. Best barbacoa I have had. Good people and love the topping bar.

Rosario M.

Yelp
Average tacos, salsa is great, their menudo is delicious but I noticed their is no bread no bolillo which usually goes with the menudo. I have to always ask, also noticed some employees wear mask and others don't and no customers wear masks neither. The only item could really speak for is their menudo which is great but only come if you are not concerned about wearing face mask. All other food is average, I give it 2 stars due it's a risk coming due to no customers wear masks and walks all around.
google avatar

Katy M.

Yelp
The workers were very rude. The rice and beans were badd, fish tacos were good. Queso is canned nacho cheese. Best part of it all, we witnessed an employee stirring something in a bowl with her finger. Then, as we were walkIng out the employees started talking in Spanish (not knowing we knew it) and talked about a rat being in the kitchen on the food. This was my first time here and we will never come back.

Yelp
West Texas Mexican food is different from South Texas Tex-Mex...thankfully. It leans toward New Mexican style with the chiles and spices used. We have breakfast tacos and they have breakfast burritos. What's the difference? Burritos are huge and usually have beans and then add the eggs, cheese, chorizo, etc...not sure how you can manage lunch after one of those things in the AM Order a taco and you get a taco shell fried up for you. Dishes are made to order and not sitting in the back waiting for you. I like stringy Mexican cheese...not the yellow stuff we often times get in South Texas. Salsa bar delivers some spice so try them all and find a favorite.

Yelp
Despite all the negative, I stopped by and had the best carnitas I've eaten in a long long time. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Will definitely return for more.

Yelp
Ever been to a place you think should be busy and its not? First time here at 5pm on a Friday and there is NO ONE there. My Wife and I decide to try it anyway based on reviews of other Yelpers and glad we did. Armando's as is one of those fast food looking places and anyone looking for a fine dining and fancy decor should keep moving. The Wife had the Nachos Supreme and of course I had to try some of her plate as well! The quality was excellent, I thought the meat and other toppings flavorful and not greasy like you might find in other joints. I had the wet chicken burrito with a side of rice. The quality of the burrito was excellent as well. I thought the rice inside the burrito was perfect consistency but the side of rice was a touch dry and a little harder than I prefer. Chips and hot sauce on the bar were decent, but the hot one had a smokey flavor which didn't seem appetizing but the other were all good. I would definitely try it again.

Yelp
The food is delicious !! The burritos and horchata were made to perfection. Visit this little gem .. You won't be disappointed!

Jenni L.

Yelp
This was an authentic Mexican restaurant. Very yummy. It was as expected inside but the food was good. Menudo, beans, rice, enchiladas, salsa! Legitimately good. When someone told them they should open a restaurant because their cooking is good they were CORRECT! I would go back!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm the kind of person that considers Yelp reviews before trying a new restaurant. On a recent trip to Abilene. I noticed Armando's Mexican Food restaurant had some pretty good ratings from the locals. So, I couldn't wait to try it out. Boy, was that a huge mistake. The place looks like there might be some authentic Mexican food inside and the inside even looks a bit traditional Mexican but the food I tried was a big let down. I ordered a carnitas plate and the meat was tough, dried out and way to salty. My refried beans had a grey tint to them. The cashier took our order, cooked our food and served it. One redeeming quality is they were out of tea and the one worker made some fresh. The two dinners I ordered were quite pricey for what I received. Surely there are some really good authentic Mexican food restaurants in Abilene. Sadly, this isn't one of them. After eating at this property I almost swore of using Yelp to help me find a place to eat and just stick to better known national places. That and there have been other places that had good ratings but were big let downs (in my opinion) as well. However, that thought didn't last very long and here I am adding my two cents about this place (for whatever that's worth).

Yelp
Driving from Dallas to Huntington Beach, just absolutely crammed in a 2 door dodge stratus with 4 dudes. Wheel almost fell off on the highway, stopped at a random Midas where they fixed it for free. Mexican joint across the street, ey why not I could neck a couple tacos right now. Turns out to be just pure fire, got a Pastor Torta and took a picture riding a donkey. 10/10 day.
google avatar

Keri A.

Yelp
Stopped here while passing through with my husband, he got the buffet which he really liked, it had mole, enchiladas, chili Colorado, and picadillo among other things. I ordered the street tacos al Pastor with a side of refried beans. The tacos were tasty and the order came with 5 which I couldn't finish. The beans were just ok and some of the whole beans in it were under cooked. Over all we'll be back!

Yelp
Great place to eat yummy enchiladas, chips and guacamole after a long drive , or any time .
